There states that it doesn’t matter which state you live in you can get tags from tags Maine is pretty much the best one Main doesn’t bother you for nothing and it’s legal
Virginia has changed the aftermarket light restrictions. You do not have to cover them as long as both lights work. If one is out you have to cover the pair. I got my frame replaced a few years ago in Stafford and the dealer found an issue with a component on my lift. I ordered a new lift kit and had it shipped to the dealer and they replaced it as part of the frame replacement since it did not require anything they were not already doing. they were replacing the factory leaf springs because of cracks so, it worked out for me! I don't have sliders so I can't speak to that. Checking the brakes; as long as they meet spec's no issue. Also, on a truck the exhaust only has to extend 6 inches past the cab. One thing, if you are running a rack or cover and it blocks the 3rd brake light and you don't have a DOT approved one on the back they will nail you for that. Sorry for the long comment.
Learned the hard way about the car wash. Trimmed my flares and the car wash brush broke some mounting tabs. Now hunting for a used set to replace the broken one.
when I was station in HI I had to get garden edging to extended the fender flares. ugly but it's just for the day. Also keep halogen bulbs for that inspection as well. Here in CA all I need to do is swap out my air intake to stock.
Great video, as always. I have a 2011 that has had a consistent P0012 code (many things, most likely VVT solenoid from what I understand) Looking around on Tacoma world this seems to be fairly common, but I see no RUclips videos on how to replace this. (hint, hint/nudge, nudge)
I live in New Hampshire and I have yet to find a place that is somewhat relaxed about yearly inspection I had to put black tape over all my lights and iv got a lot of them it was just more annoying than anything
I'm bummed about my '07 Taco. Just started modding it after have it a few years. I really wanted to get the frame recall but I'm pretty sure I can't since its over the 12 year mark... Anybody get past this? Such a great truck but the frame I'm worried doesn't have much time left.
Thanks for always answering my questions, I really appreciate it. So I just had a full 3” toytec lift installed with leaf packs in the back. I have heard mixed things about taking off my front sway bar. I know you had a video that you took off yours. In your opinion, should I take it off? I noticed they put spacers on to extend it down when they put on my lift. I just don’t want to mess anything up now that I have higher suspension. Thanks 🙏🏻
@@goldenbanjo197 You could always take the sway bar off and drive and see how it feels for you. I drive like an old man and barely noticed a difference.
@@Tacomaholic I will try it. I’m going on a 4x4 trip to Death Valley Monday so I will try it after I get back. Don’t want to do anything crazy that will mess up my trip. I just got my 3” toytec boss alumna lift installed by a shop. I was very clear that I wanted that particular lift plus the upper control arms. Well, I picked up my truck a couple days ago and it looked great, however when I got home I noticed the stock UCA’s were still on there! It rides and looks fine but it’s not what was sold to me. He tried to claim that the kit I went with didn’t include them while at the same time KIND OF admitting that he remembered the conversation where I specifically asked for the new UCA. Im not sure I want them touching my truck after this as this was only one of the times they dropped the ball on getting this lift ordered and installed. Anyways, since I have the lift in minus the uca’s I could probably order those and install them myself right? Can’t be that hard. I do everything else on my truck, I just wanted to make sure the suspension was done right so I had a shop do it. What do you think?
I'll massage you on IG and let you know about the shop I work at (Firestone McLean) and my state inspector is pretty cool. As far as (like you said) checking lights, tires, and stuff like that. If you found another place, great.. just a thought I'd throw to ya. We do alignments with lifted vehicles (If it fits on the rack), but mainly 1 time. I'll explain more in my message. Be safe have a great rest of your week
@@Tacomaholic Some ice and road dirt got under mine from the bottom. Eventually it lifted the vinyl up about 1/16th of an inch, and when the wind caught it at highway speeds it blew right off.

Finding a shop that can do a proper alignment to an aftermarket set up is key. I went to a local general shop and they screwed around with my LCA
Awesome video. Got me thinking now about all the mods on my own taco and what not to do. Thanks
LAST ONE ISSS SSOO IMPORTANT, I AM IN THE VA GROUP CHAT AND YOU HELPED WITH THIS. IT SUCKS! TAKE IT TO AN OFFROAD SHOP! APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO!
I have a modified ‘15 Tacoma....thx to you lol
Vehicle inspections lol. Im from commifornia, we just pay $500-$1000 a year for tags plus Smog. We don’t need no vehicle inspections.

Thanks man! I'll have to look into that one.
LMAO!! I can admit. I do a lot of that off roading. Lol

Yeah for my last inspection I just uninstalled all the lights on my front bumper.
Great video bud!
Please make a update video on switching from full synthetic to conventional oil!!!!
Good stuff to know. Thanks!
In Massachusetts your can't stick out past the fenders otherwise it will fail for safety on the inspection 👎 and window tint can only be 35% max 👎
I've heard MA is one of the tougher states on enforcing that stuff.
great video!
What rear bumper do you have and where did you get it
It's the Phantom bumper from Warfab.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Just bought a Taco TRD Off-road. Do you know any off-roadish place in DMV area to test my truck?
Congrats on your purchase! Peter's Mill Run in Edinburg, VA about 1 hr 15 minutes away is the closest stock-friendly trail.
@@Tacomaholic Thank you so much. I'll check it out asap
Your intro cracked me up. 😆
Virginia 🙌🙌🙌 I live in Virginia too
I hope one I can see your car
Hey bud! What spark plugs should I use to replace my plugs? Thanks!
If you have the 4.0 V6 I'd just stick with the OEM Densos: amzn.to/3CQ6tXL

Does not compute! 😀
Where did you get your headlights?
A guy on Tacomaworld made them but I wouldn't recommend him.
Not taking your truck to a thorough safety inspection is one of the worst things you can do, it puts your safety and others safety in jeopardy.
That Simon Phoenix reference lol
What type of head lights do you have??

VA sounds like a nightmare to get a modified vehicle inspected.
It can certainly be a pain.
Hey when did you do put on side mirrors marks....and did u make a video?
Which marks?
On driver and passenger front turn signals
@@jrod4491 I swapped my side mirrors for genuine TRD Sport mirrors that have the turn signals.
What am/fm antenna is that ?

It's the Bestop Supertop
How are those tires in the snow?
Haven't gotten to test them yet.
They still doing frames?
Oh yes
Free frame from Toyota ???
No nothing would cause me headache if I’m riding the best modified 2nd Gen Taco
I’m in Virginia too and feel your pain lol
Never let a whale in the passenger seat, if she's able to climb.
Not to be that guy, but you pulled onto a dirt rd

What happened to the Goat Armor?
I've got it off temporarily for the winter. Had a few pieces fly off on the road.
