You are 100% correct! It's a hard pill to swallow, but the evidence is in our face. During my 18 years in SEO, I've managed webdev for Disney, CBS, and Denver Health Hospital (a top 10 regional hospital), and the #1 agency in LA. You nailed it!

I actually agree here as well. I have tested this theory myself and have found the same results, even on mobile. Currently, my own site sux in mobile and desktop speed because it needs to be updated but is still in the top three for its keywords, even on mobile. Try telling this to customers though. You won't hear the end of it

Yeah clients obsess about it because of the sheer amount of misinformation out there

While site speed isn't everything, to say it has NOTHING to do with it, is stretching it a bit. The most important metric for ranking is relevance. and then second authority. But I do agree that site speed is given way more importance than it should be. I have found marketing people seem to be the most obsessed with page speed.

Yeah you're absolutely right - it is a stretch. Thing is on RUclips, you can't be beige otherwise people simply browse right past.
