Thank you for this video. I did this to my 03 excursion yesterday and it worked just like you said.
Just did this on my 03 Excursion over the weekend with a Pioneer 8200 Nex head unit. Works like a charm now. Thanks for the video.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this!
Thanks for the info man. Saved my butt today at work.
Do more videos on the excursion this video was very helpful I read through the comments if you do any more upgrades to your excursion please share would enjoy watching them
It works just finished mine today. Thanks
My 2005 EX's factory head unit can forward/rewind/skip ect. the factory DVD system. Can't see the screen to know what you are doing but it does control it's features.
I appreciate the video!
I have a 02 excursion with the rear audio controls at the back lower part of the center console. I do not have the DVD player from the factory. Would this be the same setup I would use to keep that working? I see people lose the speaker sound in the very rear after changing head units. I have the exact same plugs as you but minus the dvd and steering wheel controls. Any help would be appreciated.
I’ve done all of this but the media selector for the rear seat won’t let me change the input. It’s stuck on CDDJ and will not change to VCP. Is there a fix for this? I’ve tried changing it with the factory deck then reinstalling the aftermarket deck but that didn’t work.
Glad I found this video. Thanks for sharing!
Corey, thank you for the video. It appears my ground and power for the dvd unit is working with the head unit but no pictures. When I play the dvd with the front head unit the video does not run to the display and it just shuts off. Any ideas wha this may be? Sound comes through fine with the speakers but no good on a video feed. Any help is greatly appreciated
Great video. I have a question, I lost steering wheel and aftermarket head unit control for the volume of the DVD player. Can you explain which wires I need to regain that control or how to wire that back up?
The wiring harness from my head unit has 2 steering wheel audio controls, I can control the radio volume from the one, is there a pin I need to reword to regain audio for the DVD player?
Hey man you think I can do that to a toyota sienna with rear entertainment dvd? I'm not getting any sound I just installed a aftermarket head unit and the harness only can with two connectors that fit I just need to figure out with wire goes to those speakers any tips will be appreciated.
I have a question. After moving the pins to the correct locations... do I just wire the other wires into the back of the head unit... I was unable to see the back of your unit so I couldn't verify. Trying to make sure ionly have to use one butt connector instead of 4 or 5 on one wire
Can you input video from the factory DVD player to the new head unit so the front and rears seats can watch both screens simultaneously?
Great video been looking for that connector for a couple days now, fixing to install Pioneer in an 05 Excursion as well. Could you clarify where the RCA cables are going to be connected? Harness coming off the Pioneer? I'm not seeing any other RCA jacks behind the factory unit. Again Thanks
In addition to asking where in the factory harness you tied that blue wire to for steering control - Did you tie your rca cables into the speaker wires? I have rca outputs for an amp but of course if I connect to those there is no volume control. Thanks
I have a 03 expedition that has the factory dvd and also the factory subwoofer and I’ve been playing with the idea of installing a aftermarket head unit so my question is did you have to do anything else to retain the functionality of the factory sub or not?
Where do the rca cables connect to and where do the 2 additional wires connect to? Did I miss this in the video?
How did you wire everything back to the harness my video isn’t coming on
Do you still need to use a steering wheel control box to use the steering wheel controls?
So the wires that you put in the clip for the RES. Do you splice in to the main speaker wires?
thanks Corey
Do you think it would be the same for a 2003 Lincoln navigator?
Question do I need to buy a dvd player stereo or the dvd that comes stock its gonna work like factory?? If that is the case can I buy just 7 inches stereo without dvd payer??
Good job . I'm having trouble with the stock radio I'm not getting any audio any ideas?
Cory
Great video but I have a question . I have a 2001 Ford Excursion which I am about to start on a radio upgrade project. The factory radio also has the second 20 pin amp jack going to the back of it with only three wires in it. I believe this somehow controls the speaker control module at the back of the center console for the center row seating ( no dvd on my excursion). I assume your same methodology will work but I am a little fuzzy on where these three wires end up landing on the back of the new modern double din radio. Can you give me your thoughts?
Thanks for the video. Where do you tie the steering wheel control wire into?
Hi can you pls answer this question I have a 2005 ford explorer with overhead factory DVD player i replace the factory stereo with a double din and now the factory dvd player dont work i purches the metra 70-5520Av to retain the factory dvd but it didn't work only turns on for 3 to 5secs but has power cuz i can put a dvd in and out but the screen just turns on for few seconds can you pls tell me what to do there is noooo video for a ford explorer 2005 with overhead factory DVD player here on youtube
I need to do the same thing on a 07 expedition....any advice
Corey. Got my unit and Metra harness. Question; does the DVD unit stay on or will it shut off as it does already when not in use?
You da man! Thank you!
Is there a factory diagram? Also I have a pioneer stereo I have Axxess a sec-1 having a lot of trouble with it’
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Without taking apart my dash. Will this work on an 05 f150 as well? Everything the same? Thanks for your time. Great detailed video regardless if it works for mine or not.
Where did you tie in the steering wheel control into?
This has been exceptionally helpful! Any chance you know what the other wires on that particular harness do? I can't find anything about them online
Where'd you get the screw driver from. I assume it's a set.
Hey Corey do you know if it's the same for a Ford expedition 2007
Are you using a steering wheel control adapter?
PLEASE..How do I hook up a monitor to my factory radio that has a dvd player!!!
Corey did you have to cut the dash any for the stereo to fit?
Hi Corey. Great video. Much appreciated. I have a question about the rear DVD player. So with the factory radio, I hold presets 2 and 4 to activate the dual zone, so kiddos can watch a movie with their headphones, and I can still have nav and radio, etc. in front. I suspect I'll need to have a dual zone head unit to keep this feature, but do you foresee the installation being much different? Have you any experience with folks who have installed a dual zone upgrade? Any info would be appreciated. Again, thank you for your thorough video.
I’m curious as well
Corey, Thanks for a great video. Were you able to keep headphones function on the rear DVD system with this setup? I’m not sure if the headphone connections come straight from the rear DVD to the headphones or if they integrate into the factory radio. Thank you!
I have the same problem anybody figured it out?
Hello Corey, I have the same Excursion as you do in the video or maybe I don't where did you plug the RCA off the harness?
I recently bought an 03 excursion, the rear dvd did work when I got it, I did have mickey shorr put in a new double din kenwood, I don't know if my player stopped working when the deck was swapped, it currently takes the dvd and makes noise, but the screen just stays black, no sound no nothing happens. ive been thinking my dvd player had failed this whole time, but would my issues be caused from the deck not being installed correctly?
This is exactly what he is fixing and showing others in this video, I got a pioneer with all the bells and whistles. After install it doesn’t have sound from rear dvd system. Also have no working steering wheel controls that control volume etc. this guy knows what he is doing many have gotten theirs working because of him.
What type of Kenwood do you have?
Wow great video, my only question is will the color coding be the same on my Chevy avalanche, I want to do the exact same thing I just need to order my harnesses. also my old Metra kit for my infinity didnt come with a simple wire for steering wheel retention. I had to get some sort of adapter and program it to the wheel and splice in about 8 different wires it was a headache took me 2 days, yours was so simple 1 wire.
I'm sorry I took so long to answer you. I'm sure you could do the same thing in your vehicle but I'm only familiar with Ford's. Thanks.
Hello! I just found your video and it seems like it will be very helpful as we are going to be doing an install this weekend! We have 05 that had an aftermarket radio when we purchased! It stopped working and we are about to install another radio and I wanted to get the RES working again! After making the wiring modifications you suggest, how would you wire the clip it to the radio unit?
Did you ever figure out how to wire the harness to the radio
It's hooked up just like you described, it works but the sound is very low and it will not turn up
thanks it helped
Does this work with navigator?
Can someone tell me why my headphone jack doesn’t work on my ex I tried to enable and it wouldn’t work
What Pioneer radio did you use on this video?
Great video!! Can you give some details on how you wired the radio side of the harness please? Also, how did you get the steering wheel controls to work? Thank you!
Just re-wired mine to a pioneer head unit 8200 nex and it works great. You wire the 12v acc to a red acc power wire and then the ground to a ground wire. The red and white rca Audio plugs go to the audio ports in the back of the head unit, then you select AV as the source on the head unit for Audio from the dvd player. I had to use a steering wheel adapter from axxess to keep my wheel controls functioning. That’s also super easy to install.
Hey Corey. Does this allow you to control the DVD player too or does it just feed sound in?
Also you mention the RCA connection. Is this for sound?
I did this mod yesterday. It just send power and ground to the rear entertainment system, The dvd player works the tv and the lower controls in the back of the console work as well.the in dash radio doesn’t control any part of it other than if you mute the radio it’ll mute the RES also. I have ti turn the radio volume down while a movie is playing cause both will come through at the same time while a movie is playing.
I think Metra has done something different with their connectors because the pins will not come out as you describe.
I did this weekend after finding your video last week. Thank you, this worked perfectly using the metra kit you recommended. I just need to now figure out what ground you added to silence the buzz/hum when the RES is running as the input. Any advice
Did you fix this? Ik doing it now
@cookiemonster3146 did you figure out how to stop the humming?
Silly question Corey but I have a sony non dvd head unit will this work with mine and does the head unit need input rca Jack's as mine only has front or rear outputs
How did this work out for you?
So, does the DVD play from the unit or the DVD player? Just trying to clarify.
Hey Corey, Excellent Video, I have a 2003 Excursion with the factory rear DVD system. I purchased a Pioneer AVH-500EX with backup camera, blue tooth, USB and internal DVD player etc. Your video made the install much easier! I have one problem with the audio from the FORD rear DVD player. I have a very loud humming noise which I think is a grounding problem between the Pioneer deck and the factory DVD player. Did you have an ground or humming issues from the RCA cables for the factory DVD player output. I have checked the wiring and it seems correct per your instruction. I am planning on running a Video output from the pioneer deck to the factory DVD as well. but I would like to figure out the humming noise ( red RCA is louder than white) This also may be an impedance issue as well. Thoughts... Thx again!!
I added an additional ground wire to the dash frame and that helped a significant amount. There still is a little buzzing but its not that noticeable.
Corey. Thank you for the video. Looks like it really makes it simple.
Do want to ask. What head unit did you use and does it have good quality sound or will it need an amp?
I used a pioneer head unit and it has good sound. I mean it's really just used for movies and the occasional kids song. It works for what we need.
Corey does the head unit have any specific features for this to work? Would in be correct in assuming you were playing the DVD off the player in the back and not off your head unit?
I really want to keep the factory dvd working for the kids
Is this still available for help.
Mine didn’t come through clear sound only coming through back speakers and not front
After purchasing this kit I found my blue single wire on the DVD harness to be 5 pins left of the one in the video.
What year Excursion did you do this for? And did the pioneer unit you used have a DVD player in it as well? I am thinking about getting a unit with a DVD player in the head unit for my 03 Excursion but still want to keep the factory dvd in the back for the kids while also allowing navigation and information to still be seen on the head unit. Also would like the ability to have the dvd from up front also play on the back if anything were to happen to the dvd player in the roof. Thank you for the video. It was very informative and easy to follow.
Sounds like you want a dual zone stereo, they can do what you want. A regular DVD stereo can only play you're DVD and basically not multitask, the dual zone will allow you to play DVD in the back while either listen to music navigate radio in the front, that's exactly what I'm looking to do as well
Hey, I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. This video is to allow the factory dvd player to play over the trucks speakers. To play a dvd from the aftermarket head unit you would either have to use the factory inputs next to the DVD player or splice into the harness. I've been kicking that idea around lately because I want to be able to do the same thing. My truck is a 2005, but they all should be very similar. For navigation and a dvd to work simultaneously you would need a dual zone head unit. Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
@@coreyiles2342 I have a question what would it take to be able to see the DVD on the front screen and the back screen at the same time
@@mickkeating4400 I'm working on a write up for that right now. Basically you need to tap into the video coming from the DVD player and run extra wiring to the head unit to a video in jack.
Corey Iles do you have a wiring diagram or could you tell me which wires to tap into off of the harness that goes to the rear monitor from
the rear DVD to send a video signal to an aftermarket in dash radio with video screen?
METRA updated their wiring harnesses. You now need special tools to remove the pins. FYI.
Ok I’ve got my harness re pinned
My rca of course plugs into head unit, I assume I just tie ground to ground. (Black to black)
12volt power to my acc (red)
Where do I tie in the steering wheel controls wire?
So where does the steering wheel control wire go?anyone?
@@ryanjantzen6666 Light blue with red stripe. Pretty sure he says though. Wait depends on your head unit there should be a wire on the deck harness itself, or a 3.5m head phone jack.
Now would I be able to play the same movie on both screens at the same time
Yes if you have a by pass kit. I have one for my boss double din head unit was 11 bucks and can watch movies
Thank you
I watched one of your videos 🤣🤣
Would be great if we could actually see what wired come off of what rather then your hands.....
