- Welcome back!
Today's video is about the diet of Canaries! We get asked a lot about what we feed our sweet yellow canaries and I think it is really important to educate on how their diet actually should look like!
Let us know what you think about this video and also feel free to leave suggestions for the next video!
ps. because I can't stress this enough, seed only diets are NOT enough for canaries to live off. We want out animals to thrive and not just survive!

This is the best video on canary nutrition I have ever seen! Thank you so, so much for making this 😀👍
Great video! Love it that you put the clip from the wild canaries in it🥰❤️
Can't wait to see what kind of seed mix you'll make for them!
Thankyouu 🥰🥰 I wish my camera was working when I finally saw those wild canaries 😭 the video would have been so much more clear then 😍 and I'll absolutely share the seed mix once I finally have made it! 💛
Good job!! The information is very well researched and the canaries are super cute!
Thankyou so much!
hi! I love your videos, and I was wondering, I've watched a lot of other 'bird youtubers' (there are so few canary specific RUclipsrs), and I really enjoy whenever they make the 'reacting to subscribers bird cage' videos. Maybe that could be something you do in the future? Idk I'd love to see what you think on different canary setups. I still loved this video and can't wait for more
That's an amazing idea! I will definitely add that to our list of topics! Thankyou! 🥰
Excellent video! I will share with the breeders club I'm writing a newletter for.
Please let us know when you have your own seed mix &/or flower bouquets! Thank you for so much valuable information!
Hi, I watch every video you made and it’s very interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I adopted an old canari which was not in a good family before (He has only one legs because his clip (ring?) was too tight and the leg necrotized and fell). I have trouble finding good information about this species, as many people keep them in a tiny cage and only think about reproduction.
No problem! Thankyou for adopting that canary! 💛 if you have any more questions or want advice on something you can always contact us! We have an Instagram, Facebook and TikTok account as well (under the same name) 😄
And it's so true 😓 canaries are often so neglected, it always breaks my heart to see
@@LemonBirbs oh sorry for the mistakes english is not my first language, it's canary not canari! Thank you for your help!!
@@tania7113 No worries! English isn't my first language either haha 😄
Thanks you so much!i have a canary for like a half year and im glad i found your channel ive been struggling to do research and thanks to you i realised im making some mistakes
Ps :Sorry for the bas english
Feel free to always contact us if you have questions! 😄
Hello, your You Tube channel is great,I'm just wondering how you trained the chanaries so that they don't run away and are tame.
I have a video on this channel as well on how to possibly tame canaries 😄
Great content, thank you!! the background sound is a bit high compared to your voice :))
Happiest birbs in the world
Woww love it ❤
Hi, You have not uploaded in a while is everything okay? Love your vlogs one of my canaries looks so similar to your's 🥰🥰❤❤
Hii! Aww thankyou for thinking about me! I'm doing well, no worries 💛 I've had a surgery on my domestic hand, but all is well now. I'm working on new video's again! I am still very active on both Instagram and Facebook 💛
I am so happy and pleased to know that your fine, don't rush on any content as long as your ok that's the most important thing.@@LemonBirbs
❤❤❤
but i heard from other sources that say they don't need to eat eggs, there can be many sutible plant sources of high protein, for example
That often depends on the diet people provide them 😄 a lot of people in different countries are not able to get the greens that would provide the protein, or do not feel like chopping up greens to provide to their birds 😅 in that case a package of eggfood from the pet store is the best option to provide protein to your birds 💛
Its Mathias from Facebook love your videos
Thankyou so much!
hello! i saw some of your videos and they were so helpfull ! right now im having a male canary same type as yours and he is 6-7 years old , and lately his nails started turning yellow and becoming weak and their not in a straight way as they should be . and thats really bother him so much, if u have any advices i will be thanksfull.
Thankyou and sorry for my late reply! Can you maybe send me a picture of the feet and nails of your canary on Facebook or Instagram (you can find us under the name lemonbirbs / lemon.birbs as well)? That way I can see whats going on and give better advice 😄💛
Nice video your video informative thanks
You wich this country
Good
Hi there. Hope you are fine. You haven't uploaded any videos since 6 months. Everything is ok with you?
Hii! I'm daily active on Facebook and Instragram 😄 I am working on a new RUclips video, but due to some issues (with my hand) it takes a while 😄
Hi, sorry for the off-topic question (and BTW I'm asking to the entire community)
I'm willing to get a canary in the near future but I'm just afraid of his chirping.
If it would come to me there wouldn't be a problem but I'm living in a condominium in wich there's a specific rule about the loud noises (from 22pm to 8am) so I'm just wondering if there's a way to muffle the sound in some way wich makes their chirping not that loud (I red that I possibly can cover the cage with something but I'm not sure about the efficiency of this move)
Hope to find out an answers
Thank to yall (sorry for my english tho but I'm actually from 🍕🍕land, )
Hii! No worries! Both my male and female canary are almost always loudly singing 😂 but as soon as the sun goes down they go to sleep and they wake up when the sun goes up again as well. You can indeed cover their cage at night and uncover them at 8am, but in my experience they know the sun is up and will sing or chirp anyway even when it's dark in the cage 🙈
When I first got my girl she yelled for like 5 days straight I was shocked and could t find any information online but now she is so gentle in her singing. They can be nervous birds so in beginning might be louder than they actually are. She now has a sweet gentle sometimes whisper chirp and does awesome remixes lol. I have noticed roommates and/or neighbors don’t seem to mind canary chirps I’m thinking bc they have some similar chirps to outside birds so it blends in. I adore my canary best of luck. They are smart and can learn appropriate chirp schedule🐥❤️❤️
Thanks for the video ! Also I would like to ask you if I can add banana to my canary’s diet
Yess, but remember that fruits contain lot's of (natural) sugar and that vegetables are better 😄 but our birds love bananas too occasionally!
i love you so mutch 😍😍😍😍 mohamed from morocco
What type of dried flowers do you give your canaries ?
We give a variety of dried hayflowers, roses, sunflowers, marigold, hibiscus and lavender, with some flowers they only prefer the leaves and some they love as a whole 🥰
What different veggies and fruits should I give my 4 canaries? I was told to not give any carrots bc it apparently makes cataracts form faster (one of them is blind in one eye from cataracts) and not too much sugar (like apples, other fruits, fruitblend pellets) too because she is also overweight.
one is underweight so we need to give her favorite food more (apples).
I’m not sure what I should introduce to make their diet better, they all live in the same cage
There is quite a big list of vegetables and fruits we can give our canaries, but the vegetables and fruits I often go for are broccoli, chicori, bell pepper, zucchini, cooked sweet potato, apple, melon, kiwi, banana, dandelion and sprouts (often alfa alfa sprouts) 💛
Broccoli is the all time favourite in our household, they will literally fly in the fridge to reach it 😂
@@LemonBirbs okay, ty
Really enjoyed your video. But your music is too loud I think it would be better without music
@@shirleyrankin-zf6nv thanks and I know 🙈! Somehow it went wrong with the music in this clip, it wasn't like this when I was editing. I might remake it in the future but I first have other videos in my list of making 💛
sorry I want to ask, do you often dry your walnuts or not? Thank you in advance
We don't feed walnuts to our canaries, but I think fresh is easier for them to eat. Walnuts are a good source for nutrients, but keep in mind that it needs to be given in moderation (more as a treat) 😄
My canary eats a lot of the soft egg food and very little of the seeds. Is this healthy for him? I used to have another canary in the past but it unfortunately died from overeating that.
Egg food and seeds together still do not cover all essential nutrients a canary needs, so it's not healthy for him (they needs vegetables, fruits and maybe it might be better to switch his diet to pellets instead). Also egg food only has to be give if your bird is breeding, moulting or needs a protein boost 😅
@@LemonBirbs I do give him occasionally a slice apple or a piece of lettuce. I didn't know about the egg food though, thanks!
Hey, super filmpje.
Morning how can I stop my canary from having diarrhoea thanks
Do you know what causes the diarrhea? As you could "fight" the symptoms but they will come back just as fast if the cause is not found 😅
If not then I have a few questions to maybe help getting to the cause of it 😄
What are your canaries their diet looking like? Mostly seeds, or also vegetables and fruits, what kind of vegetables and fruits and how often?
Is it possible they are sitting in a draft?
What does their overal behaviour look like? Did they become less active when the diarrhea started or are there no differences in behaviour?
Are you sure its diarrhea and not polyura (and increase of the urine in the droppings)? And what does the colour of the dropping look like and does it smell?
If you want you can dm me on either Facebook or Instagram and send a photo of the droppings, that way I can help you a bit better and maybe see if I recognise the issue in the droppings 😄

As the birds return, rocks in concrete, feed in Grass
Does your bird shit all over your room or can you teach him to do in inside his cage?
Mostly on their playgrounds that I have put in my house, but honestly if they are provided with the right diet the poops are not problematic at all. Teaching a bird to poop on command or in certain places makes the change of prolapses higher.

I really like these birds how old they're this year?
