Your real world focusing test is just FANTASTIC !!! rather than some test chart, you show the audients exactly what they will get out there in the real world shooting, i especially like you do the same kind of test in different lighting condition, most reviewer just do it once in some lighting condition and draw the conclusion X is good Y is bad....... but you spent your time to do it in different condition to have more evidence and let the user make the call if the X or Y lens is good enough or not, there is only very few online reviewer I care to spend my time on and you just made it to my list, thanks for your all your hard work.

The low light AF test was fascinating! The Samyang seemed genuinely better at keeping you in focus, where the Sony seemed nervous and kept jumping around. I'm guessing it's actually because when you're at 1.8, so much more light is coming through that the camera has an easier time reading the scene.
I never considered that the wider aperture might actually benefit autofocus.

I LOVE my Samyang 24mm 1.8. I would not consider a f2.8 prime lens - even if its a bit smaller. Samyang does small enough lenses at f1.8.

Great review. Thanks. I think the Samyang is a good lens regarding a F1.8 lens, features and price.
But the Sony is the much better lens regarding AF and image quality.
The Samyang colours looks kinda pale, greyish or maybe some would call it vintage.
The Sony colours are much deeper and more vibrant. The Sony contrast is also much higher. The Sony image has more punch, looks more natural and more "Full Frame Film". It is much more threedimensional looking.
    I strongly prefer the Sony.

Thanks for the testing, very helpful to make decision witch lens to buy. Excellent results on both, I will opted for the compact size from Sony with my A7C. Thumbs up & subscribed!

The focus breathing on Sony 24mm f2.8 is more visible. Good job! Just the video I'm looking for!

Samyang seems to have better bokeh which is expected as it’s f1.8. But with the Sony, you’re prioritizing size on the A7C which is the biggest benefit.

I actually ended up selling both and got a Sony 20mm f/1.8 for about $700. Both of these lens are great but I felt like I need something a little wider since I do a lot of talking heads.

What other low light primes for the A7c would you recommend? Most people have said the 35mm ones have focus issues.

The Sony had noticeably slower AF than the Samyang when you came in from the sides of frame in the daylight test and it was darker and the AF was hunting a lot more than the Samyang was in the low light test too. The Samyang has an MFD of 19cm vs the Sony's 24cm...In the second low light test you were probably less than 19cm away hence why it appeared to have problems focussing on your face. And the Sony was noticeably slower to AF than the Samyang on the third low light test too.
Not a surprising result really as you were comparing one of Samyangs best lenses, which is the equal of the much more expensive Sony 24mm f1.4 GM for sharpness and contrast, right across the frame, with a slower, lower quality Sony lens.
The Samyang actually beats the GM for flare resistance and it has less CA at edges of frame too, yet it costs 3 times less!

I was expecting real low light. As 1.8 can do. like astrography, from a dark country side or etc. could be done in 1/4 of time. time waste.
