being a native is hard, some people think our ceremonies are devil worships. We are like all, and like my grandfather wound say "We may have a copper tone to our skin but that doesn't make us different from our brothers and sisters of the white skin." he was the wisest man I knew and may he rest peacefully yet his spirit is still with us. He used to tell us the stories of his GreatGrandfather. We were told that he was a chief of the very few Powhatan tribe in Virginia, which would make me a princess and soon to be female chief of my people. Its crazy it really is, and some may think we lie about us being princess' and princes' but it is quite true.

i've long been fascinated with Native american culture, i wanted to make a native american people for my Dungeons and Dragons world, the problem is that the insert i am using are red elves which pertains to the red skin stereotype, so i'm nervous about accidentally offending anyone of native american birth.

    Yah-pi-ye-he-he hega
    Hega hega yah-pi-ye-hega
    Yah-pi-ye-he-he hega
    Steady as the beating drum
    Singing to the cedar flute
    Seasons Go and seasons Come
Bring the corn and bear the fruit
By the waters sweet and clean
    Where the mighty sturgeon lives
Plant the squash and reap the bean
All the earth our mother gives
O Great Spirit, hear our song
Help us keep the ancient ways
    Keep the sacred fire strong
Walk in balance all our days
    Seasons go and seasons come
    Steady as the beating drum
Plum to seed to bud to plum
    (Hega hega yah-pi-ye hega)
    Steady as the beating drum
    Hega hega yam-pi-ye-hega
    Yah-pi-ye-ne-he hega

I'm mexican, look white, but talk like a black person xD I LOVE Pocahontas out of all the princesses she is the strongest, most inspiring princess. She's what a young girl should inspire to be . I still i wish people didn't get offended because other try to look like her. Wish they just took it as a compliment to the beauty of Native American culture, because that's really what it is :) Love each other people were all the same color under our skin!

if u were native, ud understand. HOWEVER being the daughter of the cheif, in native american respect and custom, she is what YOU might call a princess in the aspect of if she were the daughter of King George or something. Just because they didnt have a crown, throne of fancy ballrooms does not mean that she was any less a princess than any other.

Omg the amount of chills I felt while being reminded of this, those drums sounds so divine. Always loved how it had that deep sound to it. If I feel it that’s a great thing, def not a bad thing at all. Made me ink. I’ve always admired this song and cartoon ever since I was a youngin. “Hey ya, heyga” whatever it is they are saying. This is def going on my playlist. “Plant the squash and reap the bean….” 🗣️🗣️🗣️ they def was living the natural way. Ain’t nothing like it man. Just being in nature, going to the rivers, watching the baby chicks grow, while grandma cooked and all these dope memories is life man. Makes you cherish the small things in life, it’s funny I would have probably never knew Pocahontas cartoon if I didn’t migrate out of Jamaica. It was def an eye opener. ❤😊

Pocahontas was always my favorite, in my opinion she was the smartest of the princesses and most inspiring. That quote, "you can own the Earth and still, all you'll own is Earth" she's right unless you cherish life and nature all you'll own really is dirt. Many times I wish I didn't live in "civilized society" when I take a step back and look, it's not very civilized at all. All people seem to care about in this country is green paper just because someone SAID it was worth something.

I'm part Native American from one of the tribes that was located in Texas, U.S.A and Coahuila,Mx, sadly there's only 10% native Americans left from those tribes and the language went existed along time ago.
But one thing that connects all Native Americans together is our ancestors migrated from Asia 10,000-17,000 yrs ago. So even though we belong to different tribes we are somehow connected by bllod and our history.

@EhnaRivekan Native Americans and Canadians had chiefdoms, NOT monarchies a monarchy is a government that calles itself a monarchy as the natives had tribes they and never considered themselves a monarchy they're not. Also that some kings were elected, like in Denmark they voted on who would be king (not everyone, a select few voted but still they did vote)

The Virginia Company was from England, they did not sail for Spain. They landed in what would today be called Jamestown (so named for the King of England at the time), Virginia, which is on the East of North America, and is nowhere near mesoamerica. The people who lived near the landing were a network of different Indigenous tribes living in the Tidewater region of Virginia which they called Tsenacommacah, and were lead by Powhatan. Pocahontas (aka Amonute, Matoaka, Rebecca (upon her baptizing)) was a member of the Powhatan people, as were her family. In contrast to the movie's portrayal, Pocahontas was a child when John Smith and the Virginia Company set foot on the Americas, as best we can guess she was 12 when she and Smith met. All of this is documented.

  • @EhnaRivekan

@MsMosiac Cont. of monarchy. So even though many tribes operated in different forms then European cultures, because Powhatan's people fit the definition of monarchy, then he is therefore a monarch. And she the literal definition of princess. Even in her day many Europeans considered her a princess of the New World.

@MsMosiac England is part of the UK which is a parliamentary democracy with a monarch as head of state, so yes it is a democracy.Traditionally a monarchy but the Magna Carta helped set up a more democratic system. I'll copy and paste the definition of monarchy from a dictionary "A state or nation in which the supreme power is actually or nominally lodged in a monarch". There are 3 main forms of government: ochlocracy, democracy and monarchy. The tribe had no 'parliament' continued.

@MsMosiac You do have a point, but you must remember that all the tribes and nations had different systems and in some cases the chiefs were the main ruler. And even in times that the Chief consulted elders it's a similar concept to when a king consults it's council. That doesn't mean he isn't the main leader.Different then a democracy where the government is directly split between a congress/parliament and a president/prime minister. And even so Powhatan's people fit the definition cont.
