Had a similar experience from 2012. Not a premium car though. I went to book the then newly launched Dzire Diesel from a Maruti Showroom in Trivandrum. The car was in short supply and was in very high demand. But to my luck, just when i was at the showroom a new Dzire was about to be delivered and the customer was making a huge rukus about why he was not told that SX4 had a diesel earlier and he refused to takes delivery of his Dzire. Dealer told him that he would loose a lakh if he chooses not to take the car. After a bit of discussion I stepped in and made an offer to the gentleman for a 75k discount on the cars price to which he gladly agreed. And I drove away happily with the car and 75k in my pocket. Which was a great deal !
Saving 12 lacs on a second hand 300d costing ₹1.03cr on road doesn’t seem to be that great of a deal.. it should have been bargained for more if savings is of that importance and considering it’s 300d and not 400d.. huge difference!
i second this too, a single owner registration should take an easy 20% off on the price of such a car. The fact that it was 200kms driven makes little difference vis a vis a sub 10k kms car. 12.7% is fairly less. Such prices are generally offered for zero owner cars.
This is the worst bargain on life, better to buy an year old GLE that could have saved 20-22 lakh what is point of becoming second onwer on car by saving 10 lakh thats not even 10%
One thing on demo cars, while you will be 1st owner on paper, do understand that these are test drive cars and they’ve been driven hard by multiple drivers (& staff) without proper run in time and maintenance (dealers usually don’t put as much care). While German cars are meant to be driven spiritedly, they aren’t meant to be run recklessly on bad roads Recently bought myself a 2nd hand BMW 330i m sport, got a 360 degree inspection before biting the bullet, and it runs like dream
Hey - 13 lakh discount for a car retailing at 1.03 is not such a great deal . Demo cars without registration usually run a discount of around 15 percent . Plus he loses first year depreciation
One can argue making a choice between a GLE 400d vs GLE 300d. The 400d is more value on many counts. 300d is just a tag of an SUV you want in your garage. I own 400d and I can ascertain. However, the poor plastics fittings in the car rattle all over. Mercedes Benz is Maruti of Luxury cars. You get good resale value and good service, but don’t expect the quality of a 1 cr luxury car. Sad reality no one will tell you.
Hi Pranay, really loved the content, In the market to purchase a reliable premium people mover, do you think R 350 will be a dependable bet? are the petrol engines reliable? only saving grace was based on the Mclass which was rarely okay. Will appreciate a revert. Now I don't expect it to be a Toyota, but can it be a dependable long tourer?
Buying a used luxury vehicle can prove to be a double whammy regardless of due dillguence. In the longer run used vehciles usually lead to much higher maintainence and sporadic issues.
Fair, the problem of lemons obviously exists. But can be prevented to some extent by getting a car under warranty.. lot of second hand cars available now that are still under warranty
Pranay, this is the third video that I watched. Very good content indeed. Do make a video with a customer who ended up with a 'lemmon' of a second hand car. There may be more learning for your subscribers.
Hello there! It is so good to see your video on my feed again!! Next month is my birthday and I am all set to buy myself a VW Polo as my daily driver! I'll put on some decent alloys and some body kit revisions... Shall you please give me some hints about which make and variant shall I go for? My budget is around 3.5 to 4.5L. ( I can consider alternatives as well!) Also, this sweet GLE guy really got a fantastic deal 🤝
I haven’t bought any second hand cars myself so hard to recommend. But I’ll be sure to ask the guests which dealer did they buy from and their review. Hopefully that helps over time. Thank you for the suggestion!
The car mall in Delhi is the one of the most reliable ones. I have bought 3 cars from them and few of my friends and family also bought from them. What I liked was that the cars were really less driven. Like under 15K. I would always prefer a less driven German than a cheaper one with more kilometres on the ODO. Have been to other dealers as well but wasn’t very confidence inspiring.
I get it, man. I feel if one is in the market for a used car, you gotta put in effort to get everything checked. Low mileage + manufacturer checkup has worked for me always. If I got lucky thrice, then so be it. :)
Pre-owned doesn’t work for most people but if a) you can buy it on cash down b) are okay with brands which have lesser resale like Škoda, VW, Jeep, Audi, Ford etc c) can give it 6-8months to get the deal which sounds too good to be true Then you are likely to end up with a great deal with but this approach may not work for most folks.
hey pranay, but you didn't talk about getting the car on loan. there is a huge difference in Rate of interest for second hand car and new car. So whatever saving you are saying will not happen and you would end up paying more at the end.
It’s a good point you bring up. I’ll cover this in a separate video. The implications of loan on a second hand car and at what point does it make sense to buy a second hand car if you’re taking it on loan
About out of state cars You need to visit the place once every year Thats the case in Maharashtra now most of the luxury cars are MH registerd as owners want to avoid that hassle as police here are a little strict Also MH cars are preferred in NCR region as the cost of fancy numbers in Maharashtra is fixed and there is no auction. There is another thing in Maharashtra where Mumbai area registerd cars are not preferred due to rusting issues. So you will se many MH12/MH14 (Pune registerd) luxury cars in Mumbai region.
This is so insightful, I didn't know rusting was a factor taken into consideration - makes total sense! Now it also makes sense on why MH luxury cars are reasonably priced compared to NCR.
Good topic for a video as there are very few on RUclips. Next time try to cover buyers who bought 2-3-year-old cars which would make more sense as very few people have 90 lac for a pre-owned car. I have cracked a few good deals in past.
I think you can get an NOC from daman and diu, then get it registered in your state. You don’t necessarily need to take the murky step of getting a rent agreement in d&d
Doesn’t sound like a good deal from any angle. The difference is not worth the second hand tag and other customisation compromises. Plus when you sell it you sell it as third hand.
Thanks for your comment. How much would you pay for it? The way I look at it is if you plan to run this car for its entire life of 10 years, third hand or second hand doesn't make much of a difference when you sell it. Getting a 13% discount on a new car is quite rare and brings down the cost of ownership significantly.
@@pranayk37 I have a bit of a different view here. If I am paying in cash, I might still consider this deal and most probably will reject it after consideration. But if I am getting it financed then a 10-12% cut in my monthly emi is not exciting, for eg if I am earning a 7 lacs/month then EMIs of 1.25lacs/month and 1.37 lacs/month are not far apart that they justify the compromise of the joy of choosing the colour & other customisations, leave aside the significant drop in resale value of a car with a second hand tag. Secondly, people who play in that kind of money are not looking to save rather they want the best. So a 13% off on a 20lac car with some compromise can be exciting but it’s not the same for a guy who’s buying a car for 1-2 crores. Since it’s a super luxurious segment people who are convinced to spend that usually have much a higher proportion of incomes. For example, people will go buy a budget car with a 60k/month salary but people who go for cars priced in crores do have a much higher proportional income to their purchase, thus making this offer not very lucrative. If I was him, I would know that it’s going to be extremely difficult for the dealer to sell this car with a second hand tag at such a high price & his anxiety with the car standing there will go up every day, I would have even tried to speak to the owner and understand their mindset to decide my next move and I would have got this deal only if I would have got at least a 20% off.
@@santydagr8 Thanks for taking the time out to share your detailed point of view :) On a separate note - I wouldn’t recommend buying a second hand car on emi because the loan comes at 13-15% which is crazy. And almost always offsets any benefits that you might receive from the depreciation of the car
@@pranayk37 I have a different view here, to my mind it’s not wise to not get a loan if one knows how & where to invest unless one is playing in 100’s of crores then it doesn’t matter, though I also understand that there is a thin number of people who are not good with investments, are not entrepreneurs but fetch a good chunk of salaries because of their subject expertise, for them, getting a loan might not make sense.
Sure, if you're confident of generating more than 13-15% returns on your investments, go for a loan. Personally I'm a little more conservative when it comes to assuming returns and hence I won't take a loan at that rate. If you have your own business that generates more than 15% return on equity - that's a different ball game altogether and a loan makes sense then
