Yeah I feel bad for my husband for having my parents as his in laws. I told him not to offer or agree to lend my parents any money if they ask because they're selfish leaches and will try to use guilt as their weapon just like they're trying to do to my brother and sisters. My husband is a super nice and caring man who wants to help everyone. But he can be too nice to people sometimes at it hurts him when people take advantage of him. I keep saying that it's okay to give someone money as a gift, but don't expect to be paid back. But it's also OK to say no. It's your money not theirs.

I feel like the ones threatening divorce are just looking for an excuse to divorce.. an argument over not lending a helicopter to someone who essentially stole $100k so they can keep taking vacations (or however that ended up)... please.. If it's not the helicopter it will be some other excuse.

Ok Dave...I have listened to you off and on since 2009. When I was first a member of your online chat group. I have never heard you say..."She's a test pilot for a broom factory". I am cracking up laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I can relate so much to this caller. My former MIL was very similar. Manipulative and controlling. Although mine was masterful at being very covert and passive-aggressive. Needless to say she was not fond of me because she knew that I had her number after a month of meeting my former spouse. I got 16 years of watching this show and her trying to pull everyone in the family's puppet strings.

My 13-year partner and I have never been married. His mother has become god-awful. Her son and I share a 12 year old child, and she has become more and more controlling of our child, to the point where she tries to dictate who's house he's going to live in, and for how long. During a recent therapy session, I dared to make light of the fact that she could be removed from my son's life due to her behavior. She cocked her head back and laughed, and told me: "You can't do that because my child is his father!" That level of entitlement blew my mind, and is helping me to work even harder to get away from both her and her son.

I can't believe members of the in-law family told her that if she didn't cave and do what mother-in-law wanted that she would "hate you forever". What a bunch of twisted manipulators. I loved it when Dave said, "Oh well". I agree with him absolutely. So she caves and allows junior access to the helicopter so MIL won't hate her. THEN, "If you don't name your child what MIL wants you to name her, she will hate you forever." and then, "If you don't allow the in-laws to move into your house, she will hate you forever" and on and on and on. I don't see this ever ending. Better to just stop it before it really gets started and if MIL hates you, it isn't really much of a loss to you. We are told, "You're known by the company you keep" so we are sort of judged by the people who like us. I think we are also judged by the people who don't like us and if the people who don't like you are a bunch of no-boundaries, manipulators I see that as a HUGE compliment to you. I also agree with Dave that husband needs to develop a backbone and stop allowing his mother to dictate his behavior to him. What is he? Five? He's a grown man. He doesn't really need his mommy's approval for everything he does, especially not if mommy is the kind of woman his mother is.

I loan my helicopter to my irresponsible niece, niece crashes helicopter and kills self and passenger she was trying to impress, parents of both parties sue me for being irresponsible and loaning irresponsible person helicopter. Just a side note, helicopters are wildly expensive to maintain per flight hour. Is niece paying for maintenance?

There is this magical word I love to use when someone asks me to do something I don't want to do.
    "No."
End of story. End of conversation. No more discussion. As soon as someone else pays my bills, they can tell me what I can do with my stuff. Since that will never happen, I'm safe to do what I want.
