For a long time Sigma have been the only 3rd part lenses I’ve trusted, but it really seems like Tamron has some awesome stuff. 😎
Sigma is great for Canon and Nikon but haven't been aimed at the mirrorless until recently. Tamron are sure as hell killing the lenses for Sony cameras 🤓
sigma is way expensive, way better but also way heavy :)

Then I watched your video.
I went to the bathroom mirror and said to myself: "I have to do better"

So I wiped my tears and said "no, woman. I am inspired"

But all jokes aside, this lens was quite surprising. The 20mm will be released soon and that one is really interesting as well :)

@@MiintuYT Tamron, it's sharper and also you can do macro kind of shots which is really fun to do.
@@MiintuYT Samyang has plastic lens mount, spray painted silver. That would put me off the Samyang.

First I thought that 2.8 prime wouldn’t interest me (i would rather get 24 1.4 or 24-70) but the way you pointed out how well it would go with 28-75 adding the option to get wide + macro made it interesting and was a genius way of looking at it.
Then try SIGMA 20mm f 1.4 it is huge metal lens, simply the best beast money can by

They are doing all of these primes for Sony in the same filter size to make it more affordable to have filters and have them work on all of these lenses.

Thats very interesting...The only thing that sets it apart from the 17-28mm is the fact that it is a Macro lens, but wow that AF is loud! Crazy. I was also very surprised that they made those Primes 2.8 because that just makes me happy to stick with my other two Tamrons 17-28mm & 28-75mm. I can see how they would benefit some though. Sweet video.

I'm using it for professional work, it's perfect forr me, I recommend to understand it, because the lens barrel it's very present and the noisy and continous autofocus too.
Motion tracking on the wrapper toss was cooool
If you had to choose a better all around 24mm between this lens and the Samyang 24mm, which would you choose?

Same focal range, same aperture, almost same size, little price difference. Weather sealing is really appreciated on the Tamron but is it worth 100 or 150€ more ?

Awesome review - I have the tamron 28-75 but would like a prime to shrink the foot print of the camera with lens. How would you compare this with the Samyang 24mm F2.8?
I think this is better than the Samyang, but if I'd buy a lens I'd save up some more money and go for the 17-28

Are there any benefits to this compared to the 17-28mm, outside of the macro features? I feel like I’d rather just use that instead, because it covers the same range.
Bryce Matheson i guess people would buy these because they can easily buy into a full frame camera system with a very cheap lens in their budget? But i agree, better off getting the 17-28mm for the same aperture and a wider angle. But offering these prime lenses makes apsc cameras less appealing in general

Bryce Matheson the tamron 17-28 is complete silent in video. The 24mm 2.8 is noisy and Will be picked on the onboard mic.

I am planning to get a good combos of prime lens for a7iii. I am thinking of buying 24 mm 55 mm zeiss 1.8 and 85 1.8. What are tour recommendations or opinion on these selections. Thinking of adding 35 sonnar zeiss also if is needed.
Just received mine from amazon. Its on sale right now for $199 and its noisy and kinda slow but im loving it. Its so wide it makes car photos pop. Definitely a nice lens to add to the collection especially for $199 imo
how about the AF in continuous mode? is quick? loud a little? I just do street photo and astrophotography
@@joelrobles763 honestly the continuous af is just fine, I’ve never had a problem when filming car videos it’s pretty quick with it
Would you say this 24mm 2.8 is still worth getting if you already have the 17-28mm 2.8 for Sony a7c?

Great review...I probably won't get this lens. I already have the Tamron 28-75 and I love it. I also have the Sony 28mm f/2 which I used often for video. So, it wouldn't make sense for me.
I’ll be getting this 24mm prime for my A7C. Sharpness and pinch Macro capabilities are kind of what I want, and the price is a borderline impulse buy.

Peter have you tried SIGMA 20mm f 1.4 ? If not then try that beast. I am having sometimes feeling that Tamron is pushed 2 much with no particular reason, except they are chip plastic lens
So is this lens worth it for a good cheaper 24mm lens in comparison to the 24mm GM 1.4 ?

I would say that if you don't have the budget for the GM then this will suffice. But if you want the best quality and overall better lens, then the GM is the way to go!
I recently buy this lens, and notice aperture sound when changing, specially when turning camera On/Off

Hm. I was about to buy the G-Master today but this gives me pause now. I do like night photography above all else but I’m also...broke and love my Tamron 28-75. Great video in clutch as usual!
For an option somewhere in the middle, sigma makes a 24 1.4 and it’s priced between these two. Not trying to self promo but my most recent video features it if you want more info!
Get the GMaster - it will blow you away for night photography! I also have the Tamron 28-75 but the Gmaster has now spoiled me for other lenses- it's that good and lives up to all the hype. I have a hard time taking it off my camera these days.
@@Joey.Alford More to this than price alone! Sigma is much heavier and larger - not exactly good for street!. I heard that there are auto focus issues in video, as well. The G Master is surprisingly well balanced on the A7iii.

I want to buy my first sony camera the A7C because I want full frame but light. 24mm is my favourite focal distance, this tamron is also small and light but Im worried about the video AF as a few reviews have said it can be a bit flaky.
Yeah the loudness of the lens def caused me to take it back I’m running the mke 400 mic and it’s even louder on it then the on board a7siii mic

Really troubled by the F choice of Tamron there. If it were at least F2, to be a real alternative to the 28mm F2 from Sony why not, but here, I'd rather just stick with a more versatile zoom lens at F2.8. Great review btw, thanks !

I primarily shoot video w/ autofocus and I am looking for a wider prime to pair with the Sony 55mm 1.8. I think I might go for the Sony 28mm 2.0 over this one because the AF is better on the sony.
I am thinking about the same 28mm lens, but I do not like the sharpness of this lens at wide open. I keep looking....

I'm mostly portrait photographer and wanted to buy 70-180mm with sony a7r3. But of course i would need wider lens sometimes. But budget is already gone with 70-180mm. I would like to buy 17-28mm tamron but it is way expensive and dont really need it. So i guess this lens would be enough for a while to me with 70-180 mm. I wanted 85mm 1.4 sigma art too but i think zoom lens gives me more options and I always shoot on good lighting conditions so..
I have the 28-75mm and the 35mm f2.8. Any reason to buy the 24 and or 20mm over the 17-28mm ??

I agree, but some people can't afford the extra price of a 1.4 lens though. I think it's great that these lenses exist but they should've been 1.4 to be epic ones!
That focus motor is 19th-century quality. I was hoping to use this lens for video, but it is off my list now due to a loud focus motor.
I bought it, and then returned it lol. AF was horrible to the point it was a deal breaker. Love my 28-75 though!
I wouldn't say that the AF is horrible, far from it. But it is a loud lens!

I'm still using smartphones as my only camera. I really some days, I will get my hands on those yummy looking lenses.
I think these are neat, but a little too late/expensive. You can already gate these made by Samyang for cheaper. That being said, I do own the 18mm 2.8 Samyang and the 24 mm 2.8 Samyang. These things are tiny, and great for gimbal work. I also find throwing the 35mm version on the A7iii is great for just walking around and taking pictures. Basically, decide what you want to do for the day. Throw 2 of them + the a7iii in a tiny bag, and you can do anything that day and not need to carry around some huge bag.
Yeah, the benefit here though is the Macro capabilities! But I agree, they could've done a 1.4 instead since their zoomed already cover the range

I'd say that it's a great lens for the price but as a first lens I'd go for a zoom!
But why when you can get a 24-70 f/2.8 or a 24 f/1.4?
As I said in the video, if you don't have the money for a zoom or the GM its definitely a viable option.

Not dissing the Tamron, Peter, especially for the price point, but I have to disagree with you regarding the sharpness; it was clear even in your quick sample that the Sony 24 GM is on another level ( as it should be!) Also, I own the 24 GM and was blown away by being able to do close focusing, near macro shots with it at f1;4 , perhaps not as close as the Tamron but still...
The Tamron is a chunky budget lens offering good quality but certainly not a GM killer. I own and love the Tamron zooms but I adore my Sony 24GM - it is a dream lens! Looking forward to your review of the Tamron 20mm if you do one!
I tried taking several photos with both lenses and they're equal in sharpness from 2.8 to 5.6!
The 24mm GM is far superior this lens but at the price point, the Tamron is damn good.
The 24mm GM is still my favourite and I agree, it's a dream lens!
