Ryan gets the same ride and half of the money. Ryan and mack know how I.porta the each are to the half of their group. Ryan is great would love to hang with him
I love the National and I am discovering Macklemore. So, this is a real treat!! Different styles but with strength of character in their music. I am over 50 but it is wonderful to keep falling in love with music over and over again.
Its a beautiful and brave thing for Macklemore to use his powerful and well-admired voice to speak out against a massive problem deeply imbedded in our society. We are only half awake, and thats all too true..
The number of people that think that this video by Macklemore is so great is disgusting. Ryan Lewis does so much work for so little recognition. God bless you and your love for music
it's just sad how peopel look at macklemore but not at the great person that stands beside him :( sorry for my english 😅 i'm from germany and my english is not that good 😞
I'm really afraid that the industry is not ready for the realness of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, I hope they are around for a very long time and make a difference in this messed up society.
Great video. Im a big fan of both Ryan Lewis the producer and the photographer. Great work man! Not sure if you remember me or not, we met back stage at your Melbourne show. I've been a fan of you guys for years. It's great to see such real music finally making its way back onto the radio. Ya'll are starting a revolution! peace out. JP.
This song is about the major corporations that feel as though they’re “empires,” but only achieve power through the dollars that we, consumers, give them.
What I really like a about alot of Macklemore's music is he is always protesting something or trying to get something across. Otherside, Fake Empire, and Same Love are all good expamples of this. His music has a purpose. One of my favorite quotes, I don't know who said it, is this: "The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, remain neutral." or something like that. You may not always agree with him, but at least he is expressing his beliefs. Good song :)
It just makes me soo annoyed when people only talk about macklemore and call wings, thrift shop and etc.. only his music come one people don't forget ryan lewis! this video was made by him and even thought now you're talking about only macklemore i love both...but don't forget that theit songs are made by ryan and macklemore together
At this point of time when this was released I was 3 years 1 month and 12 days old Wow you guys guessed the internet world already before it was even truly explored
This is really cool. It showcases how we basically live off of everything technology. We dont talk face to face with people as much because everyone is pretty much addicted to the screen instead of the people in front of us.
This song proves a huge point at what technology has been doing to us, sometimes it's bad, and sometimes good. We shouldn't have things like Facebook "take our words away" or "take the tweet out of our voice" a lot of people overuse these things. I'm not saying it's bad, but don't have the internet be your voice, that's what I think this video is about.
This video still pops into my head every so often. It feels even more relevant now than it did whenever I first watched it, some number of years ago. I love having my little superiority complex over how I don't go on my phone when I'm with people but that's only part of the point of keeping it in my pocket. The rest of the point is actually interacting with others, forming connections, and being in the same moment at the same time. And screens can be instrumental in doing so, when used right. Also, I grew up on Alki, and I forgot that they go there in this video. I moved to the east coast a couple years ago and I'm glad I did but due to covid I can't go back and be with my family for the upcoming holidays and I know it's for the best but damn, it hurts. It's hard for me to be reminded of people like Macklemore who stayed in Seattle as an adult, because as much as I love the city and my family there, I just can't see myself living there again and being happy. It's just not the place for me. And I know my family understands that to some degree but I'm still the only one 3,000 miles away from the rest of them. I know that's not necessarily related to the message of the video but it is to me and I don't think I can articulate it any better than I already have. Thanks for reading, I hope you have a wonderful day, and I hope you can be with your loved ones soon :)
Doesn't like corporations yet is using them to reach to the world. Nothing wrong with technology. It's all in moderation. It's your choice to not be overcome by it.
Don't consider it as hatred. The message is delivered using the medium in which has partially caused the a dilemma that they address. Like an alarm waking the people up, letting them be conscious of the pitfalls in consumerism.
charlichad07 do a quick search (since I'm sure they have censored even these results) for "Google censorship". "Twitter censorship". these platforms claim to be an objective place of information, when they are censoring and pushing their own agenda in secrecy.
Althogh I think most people have the meaning. I do thing theres more to it :') In the sence that the lives we a livving are essentaily fake, truth is technoligy isnt real if that makes sence, What you see on a screen isnt real. Its a hard concept to explain and even harder to understand. But yeah. Then theres what is real, Feelings, Emotions, meeting new people, Expreiance. :') We need to use the things we have to help us everyone once and a while, Dont let them consume you. You are the consumer not the consumed.
Finally somebody who is capable of expressing the sadness of this society. Everyone lives in his little 'Me' bubble. 10.000 friends on Facebook but nobody there when needed. For any ruler this a wet dream come true. The Romans already knew that the more the people are divided the better you can rule or divide to rule! Avé!
:,) This was so nice, it was really beautiful and while I'm sure there's a deeper meaning to it other than the obvious message behind it, I really liked this whole video. Bless you Mr. Lewis
+Becca Mclean If you really think this song is bad then you don't know anything about music. its not just about the sounds and beat. Its about about the bigger meaning behind the words or the music itself and obviously you don't get that. So grow a brain and then you come back and you will understand this is a fucking amazing song. Unless of course i'm preaching to the internet zombies that this song illustrates. Goodbye
We are ready. We have been. And It is up to people Like Maclemore, Ryan Lewis, Myself, and all others who are AWAKE or have just AWOKEN. This has been a long time coming. I wrote in 200 that our generation needs a revolution, but unfortunately there was no one willing to take a stand at that time. The time has come. About every 60 years or so there is a shift in consciousness if you look back thru out history.
The truth sucks. seeing couples sitting at a table or going on a walk. both or one on their phone on facebook/youtube while the other just wonders when they will actually communicate. Great video.
Don't ever lose sight of who you are, whom you love, or the very temporary nature of life itself. don't get lost in the illusion of living forever, every moment counts.
As good as Macklemore is, Ryan deserves so much more recognition than he gets.
I agree.
That's the deal with being a DJ bro.
Ryan gets the same ride and half of the money. Ryan and mack know how I.porta the each are to the half of their group. Ryan is great would love to hang with him
I think the National should get the recognition in this one, they wrote the song, it's a good cover though :-)
Yea that's why they used his facebook account int the vid.
this video still comes back to my head every once in a while. it's been almost ten years and things haven't changed.
Things have changed, but not for the better 😂😢😊
14 years later and this video is more relevant now than people realize.
I love the National and I am discovering Macklemore. So, this is a real treat!! Different styles but with strength of character in their music. I am over 50 but it is wonderful to keep falling in love with music over and over again.

sorry for my english 😅 i'm from germany and my english is not that good 😞
No, the amount of people who don't realise that this is a cover of The National's song Fake Empire is disgusting.
We get your point but calling people disgusting for not knowing is a little over the top but I forgive you because it was 7 years ago :P
Pretty sure people new that most of the artwork is from ryan. ❤
Sorry for my perfect english, im from germany 😊
This video was so ahead of its time. I think its more relevant now than it was in 2009.
yep...2024!
It’s getting worse a decade later it’s extremely relevant now, they might not let us comment on this video in another 10 years
I'm really afraid that the industry is not ready for the realness of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, I hope they are around for a very long time and make a difference in this messed up society.

It is 2020 and this was a gem.
Don't know why, but I feel like the best is yet to come with those guys...
I can't believe I just found this song 11 years later, this is good and very relevant even now
So true

At this point of time when this was released I was 3 years 1 month and 12 days old
Wow you guys guessed the internet world already before it was even truly explored
When I saw the video the first time I cried softly..
It is a good message for all people which are "addicted" to the new technology
*gets motivated to be productive and enjoy life*
*looks outside*
*raining*
*instant unmotivation*
*talk to self*
"So much for that."
Just watched this for the first time today and I’ve listened to it atleast 6 times! What a song
World need more incredible songs like this one.
This is really cool. It showcases how we basically live off of everything technology. We dont talk face to face with people as much because everyone is pretty much addicted to the screen instead of the people in front of us.

ONLY 3 MILLIONS VIEWS??!
This is such an amazing song by The National, and I love this version too. Well done.
damn bruh you wrote this like 8 years ago. Damn life was good back then
sharing this on twitter kind of seems ironic

This is from 2009. He used to keep it to 2012 (or maybe more).
It was also used in "An We Danced"
5 minutes and 30 seconds of listening to the song.
34 seconds of reflecting about my life.
