This young lady knows what she’s talking about on her RUclips channel here and she’s got some high level vocal pipes 100%. So just for a reference with track and field. Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is 61 years old now. I appreciate the fact this video points out the age and physical aspect of still being able physically belt out vocals accurately at 65 years old. Back to 61-year-old Carl Lewis. Today, if Olympic 100 meter gold medalist, Carl Lewis, were to run against any major collegiate track and field 100 meter runners, Carl would most assuredly lose the race. A sub 11 second 100 meters, it’s not going to happen for Carl today. Not at 61. Ann at 65 has 90 % the vocal capacity of her youth. This is very, very rare. Actually, in her youth, Ann was off the scale at 120%.
As far as I'm concerned, Ann is and will always be the greatest female rock singer, there's no one out there that can touch her. I've seen Heart five times and she always amazes me. There's some real early footage of them at the California Jam 2 in 1978 playing in front of 300,000 people.
I will be 67 next month and I have followed Heart and so many others for years....To me the 70's music is and will ALWAYS be the best decade....Bar None...
Ann Wilson is the female version of Freddie Mercury in Rock, period!! One thing that's a shame about Alone reactions though..., it seams that Nancy's vocal role is always neglected a bit... Her high line on the chorus is crucial to the sound of this song. It's just not the same without her high line part on the chorus. 😍
The Wilson's have always been one of my favorite pair of singers. Ann is out of this world and was around before artists began to rely on auto tune. AWESOME!!!
Totally right in your evaluation of Anns performance. She has always been a favorite of mine. I have seen her in person twice over the years but wished I could have witnessed this performance. Seeing, hearing it even now gives me goosebumps and I'm a 73-year-old male.
I can honestly say I've had the pleasure of seeing some of the BEST rock vocalists live. Ann in 1977, Freddie Mercury in 1980 and 1982, Steve Perry in 1982 and 1983. Might throw in Dennis DeYoung of Styx in 1978 and 1983. This song came out in the mid eighties and this is probably about 20 years later. Her voice is little huskier here after decades on the road.
Nancy could have been a superior lead singer in her own right. It’s only the fact that she was singing along with Ann that makes her sound like a secondary voice. Ann was & still is one of rock’s great voices. I could listen to her sing the dictionary, but SIXTY-FIVE?!?!
As a gifted singer myself. I have to say that MANY singers lose it after a certain time in their lives. It could be age, and or a myriad of other issues. HOWEVER, Ann treats her voice like the instrument it is and should be. I think this is what has kept her sustainable after all these years. She pampers it like it should be. And doesn't over do it like it should be. And that's what makes her the vocal phenom she truly is.
One of the greatest bands of all time. Ann and Nancy are SO SO SO legend. Great "critique" Tara. As always, it's a pleasure to watch and listen to a true professional like you. Be well.
Having heard Benatar (still incredible at age 71) on some very recent bootleg videos, and with now hearing Ann (at age 72) on Disturbed's new album, I'm convinced that Ann and Pat need to do a bunch of shows together and call it "That 70's Tour"....lol.
I adore Heart. I'm also an amateur singer - alto and in a choir that does choral pieces, but still I love being a rock chic - age 50 so still young!. Thank you so much for your insight because it really helped me.
Was fortunate to see them twice in concert - both shows were excellent! I'll never forget during the second concert Ann was hitting those high notes and the microphone started crackling. She immediately decreased her voice a little and didn't miss a beat doing it. That happened TWICE during that concert. I've been going to rock concerts since 1973 and I never saw that before and I haven't seen it since. She has a voice for the ages!
@@fredbloggs6080 The thread leaves me unsure of which comment to which you are replying. Some of my very favorite singers have notable grit in their vocals - male examples Louis Armstrong and Roger Daltrey, female examples Bessie Smith and Bonnie Raitt. Some very talented songwriters like Bob Dylan have trouble with instant pitch accuracy. Emmylou Harris and Scarlet Rivera found the notes not on the piano to remain in harmony on the "Desire" album. I love all the above and a very, very much longer list but not every singer hits a note with the same precision of pitch.
@@barrydouglas6276 I was being sarcastic, wondering if these types of observations are loved by the musicians and performers also. (And by hoarse, I meant from having a temporary issue, not the nature of their voice). My current favorite vocalist, Jona Viray, has a distinctive tone in her chest voice which extends into the higher range. She also has a beautiful head voice. Here is a recent performance of Heart's Alone with her leading a trio--her younger partners are okay, but Jona's the star (the one on the right gets in over head with some high runs late in the song, but she has a good lower register). When Jona came in with the high part with the upward slide in the middle, I got chills for the rest of the song. ruclips.net/video/kzss_kTHN7g/видео.html
I grew up in the 80s listening to this song, and honestly never gave it much thought. Just a few years ago, I saw Heart live, and was absolutely shaken by Ann's singing of this song. Just absolutely flooring performance. And props to Nancy as well - she's a marvel all her own.
No, Ann never trained as an opera singer, she is self-taught. Of course, she IS an incredible singer. I do think this "reaction video" is absurdly over-exaggerated, the high note here was thin and abbreviated, unlike in Heart's prime hey-day. Not to take anything away from Ann, but we all get older. In fact, this performance was years ago, and today, she can no longer hit the note at all, unfortunately.
I was there. High up on the left side of the stage in the upper circle. And I can tell you for a fact, the payoff line at the end of the chorus goes right through you right the way to your bones. Theres no other way to describe it. There were three of us who were long standing musicians for over 30 years and all we could do was look at each other with our mouths hanging open. Bloody magnificent.
Still beautiful. I am 43 yrs old and thankful everyday for the years I grew up in because of the music. I loved the old before me and will take to my grave some of the most amazing sounds ever made on this lump of rock floating through space.
Not only did she send it right up to that f sharp, she nailed it right out of the box without waiver. Right on the note. It’s just amazing how this woman is STILL killing it at 65. Awesome. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Anne Wilson is EPIC... if you think this is good you should review them singing Stairway to Heaven when they honored Led Zeppelin at he Kennedy Awards... Mind blowing!

This is such a great performance. Yes yes yes
YES! Tara please react to Heart's version of Stairway to heaven at the Kennedy Center.
Master class!
Ann was awesome but the guitar solo was disrespectful.
Ann deserves all the roses. She's not only one of the best female vocalists of all time, but she sounds amazing live. I. Love. Her.
Such power and passion.
Look up the live one with Carrie Underwood. Carrie hits the younger Ann notes, and Ann hits the clear Nancy notes.
And she gets better with age too!! Love her ❤️ ❤️

The soul in Ann’s performance is almost unparalleled ❤ makes me cry. Amazing 🤩
Rock royalty. In my opinion, one of the greatest female vocalists that's ever lived.
