Back when I was running a chain saw daily I started with an angle guide & round file sized to the saw. After fumbling around with it I took the 30 minutes it takes to learn the eye-hand coordination to file without the guide & use the round file on rakers by eye (& only when I could see the polish mark on the raker). We were sharpening at least 3x/day becase
When U get a chain just right: you can feel the cutting action pull the saw thru the log & you don't have to do much muscling. The bevel & super sharp tooth makes this happen & the difference in wear & tear on the sawyer is night & day.

Also worth mentioning that there are many different types of chain in many within different diameters. Looks like you have a safety chain. With a chipper cutter. Change to a good stihl chain with rm or rs cutter. Not a good idea to hit the rakers every time. It is easy to take too much. Also good idea to drop the chains off at saw shop (for home owner) after every 5 to 10 and let them correct the angles on a wheel sharpener. Dressing the bar is whole other subject. Ripping chain is also whole other subject. This is nothing to play around with. Wear those chaps. Will save your life.

Tooth & depth gauge. Rakers are in cross-cut saws.

Can you use different size files in the SAME 2 in 1 holder?
The raker file will be the same for all chains, but I am thinking that maybe the round file holders might be different per each sized body.

Just from a quick observation it doesn’t appear you sharpened the chain hardly at all. Chain teeth points weren’t sharp at all and saw nothing but fine dust coming from the log. Am I mistaken?

I have never seen anyone file a blade in a back and forth motion. Only push the file in one direction.

to sharpen your chainsaw chain, just put it on backwards and run it through dirt. if doing it normally dulls the blade, doing it backwards will sharpen it.
