It would be easier to buy a new pair of cutters.!!!!
The goal of the video was to showcase a unique approach to recycling, but I understand that it may not resonate with everyone
Easier but not as satisfying. There are people like me who love being able to make and fix things with your own hands
It's fine if you have the time, but sometimes time is money.
Thank you for watching
As a D.I.Y. enthusiasts and a creative individual I can't believe I hadn't come across the battery trick to removing rust. Thank you for this
Hello! I am very happy to read your comment. Have a good day!
"Wow, this video was incredibly insightful! I never thought sharpening pruning shears could be this easy and effective. The step-by-step demonstration was clear and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing such valuable DIY knowledge!"
Thank you! Cheers!
Ingenious! The creator must be an engineer. Only one point of correction, though, and it’s a pretty major point. The shears in the video are bypass pruning shears and the section on sharpening is incorrect.
First, you do not need to sharpen the lower arm of bypass pruning shears. Only the upper arm does the actual cutting.
Second and much more important, you should not sharpen both sides of the upper arm of bypass shears. For anvil shears, yes, but not for bypass shears. It will damage and dull the shears if you do. You should ONLY sharpen the angled (beveled) side.
Once you are completely finished sharpening the angled side, you make ONE swipe on the other side - the flat side - with whatever you used for the final sharpening on the angled side. This is to remove any possible burrs. But that’s all. Some experts say not to even do that much - that just opening and closing the shears will remove any burrs on the flat side.
Aside from that, I loved the video. The section on sharpening should be redone and the video titled, “A Geek’s Guide to Pruning Shears.”
Hello! thanks for your comment. Wish you all the best!
I’ll just go and get new ones.
Thank you
Thank you for watching
Too many hassles & troublesome. Easier to buy a new pruning shears just for US$4.20= MYR20/- at any DIY outlet.
But they’ll get dull also.
Good for restoring old school tools that were made of better metal.
Thank you! Cheers!
What is the purpose of using the AA battery as oppsed to say a similiar sized metal rod ti polish?
AA battery shell is soft zinc + toothpaste helps remove remaining plaque and stains
You did well, my dear.
Thank you! Cheers!
Use the center of the battery for sharpening it should work way better and can be used for welding as well😊
Excellent video. I have used this method to restore some vintage steel Tonka trucks, although I used washing soda instead of salt.
Ignore the "experts" who have no respect for the thought and work that go into making your videos - if there is something truly unsafe or could be done a better way, let them say so politely.
Thank you! Cheers!
You can use purex instead of salt and 6 volt battery will do just fine. Use this to clean any rusted parts.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm Looking from Östervåla Sweden very interesting video
Hello! Welcome to Creation Holic channel! I am glad you like this ideas. Wishing you all good things!
soak it in the transmission fluid with some salt you will be amazed of the cleaning power
Thanks for sharing!
I can get the same or better with CLR soaked over night and you can get drum wheels instead of screwing your drill up. BS
Hello! thanks for your recommendation. Wish you all the best!
Very good idea 😊 thanks from Türkiye
Thanks for watching!
$5 in materials 2hrs labor for a $15 topps pair of shears WTF
You could do the same with an orbital sander so why waste time glueing sandpaper to drill. 😂😂😂
Total waste of time!
I'm sorry to hear that the video didn't meet your expectations. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention
Cool idea but... I wouldn't use one of my drills. All that crud being so close to the chuck... after a few times doing this you would seize up your drill.
Thank you! Cheers!
Realmente el filo se pierde cuando las tijeras se separan

Thanks so much for watching our video. Wish you all the best
Does the battery/salt water soaking process smell bad? Thanks for this video. It’s great to restore old tools to their usefulness.
You should leave them in a well-ventilated place
Soy de el salvador
When he started to sand it with a power tool that was it for me.
Thank you for watching
Incredible job 🎉
I am glad you like this ideas. Wishing you all good things!
If your a Fred Sanford sure but cheaper to buy a new pair it would cost money to do this but the idea and knowledge is Very Very Valuable so Thank you. 😁
Thank you! Cheers!
What liquid did you squirt onto the sandpaper at 6.19 ??
water
Note to those who didn't notice he cleaned NOT SHARPENED the Flat side. ONLY sharpen one side, the outside edge
Hello! thanks for your comment. Wish you all the best!
I have never had a battery peal that easy either lol
Is it possible to use a smaller power supply?
Yes, I think all is actually necessary for electrolysis of iron is a couple volts at 2 amps.
However, it will take more time and the distance between your anode and cathode must be shorter. For a deeper dive, look into electro plating (overarching idea) or rust removal by electrolysis (this specific use).
You can use a smaller power source
@@creationholic101 Maybe a 12 V 8 Ah charger??
@@Jari1973 that's how lots of people do it. Though I'm not sure how an a charger with an automatic/ maintenance-free mode would take to being attached to electrodes. It would probably just go full bore.
@@Jari1973 the key point of all of this is you can't use alternating current. It has to be direct current. AC would take metal off at the negative peak and put metal right back on at the positive peak (sin wave lol).

Nice...but $.99 @ the dollar store !😢
Thank you for watching
Not even close - those pruners may be old but appear to be of high quality. Besides, the video is to demonstrate an effective way to remove rust and secondarily a method, but not the only method, to complete the restoration of a good tool.
I would prefer to buy new ones!!!
Thank you for watching
Some of us would rather restore a good old tool. At 77 years old, I have shop tools that were my father's.
What is the electrolyte solution?
Salt & water
Thank you
Thank you for watching
amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Why the toothpaste?
Toothpaste and batteries help remove remaining plaque and stains
Fine abrasive lube for honing a very fine edge on the sheers.
Why do you supposed that we know what is the white material ?
White material?? The copper cable is white, attached to a steel bar.
Thank you! Cheers!
Que ha la pila?
Toothpaste and batteries help remove remaining plaque and stains
I can't believe this appeared on a Google news feed
Thank you for watching
A lot’s of work
You only need to craft it once, the next grinding takes less than 1 minute

Oh your video is amazing, it's very useful for life❤❤❤
Glad it was helpful!
Definitely easier to buy new ones who could be stuffed doing all that
You only need to craft it once, the next grinding takes less than 1 minute
well you got 379000 views in a day. sadly this information apart from the rust removal is very poor and i really would not recommend you use these methods.
Can you share how you do it
Which part of is poor and why? I think it was brilliant and ingenious
@@creationholic101Unlikely, he's only skilled at criticising
I totally agree 100% like why wouldn't some CLR in a little elbow grease do the same thing with less risk
@@IngaHickswhat risks are you referring to? He shows how to restore a heavy rusty shears, not washing a used anal plug "with a little elbow grease "
2k24 year, seriously?
Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that. Can you repeat the question for me please?
When in India...do without
Thank you for watching
What's wrong with a wire brush and some light oil?
With old rust stains you will need it
Interesting but way to much work for $10 pruners
Thank you! Cheers!
Unsafe....
You can say more about what you're worried about
Useless the battery system it's nothing? It's better to sharpen it to the grinder. Nonesence this sample of doing?
batteries and toothpaste help remove remaining plaque and stains
