    Please note: At 3:35 and 4:14 you should type out degrees, not mm. Thank you to "Dsk" for catching this.

    Great vid...super concise...wish I had disovered it when I first started tbh. BTW Im pretty sure tab is always a non committed input and enter is commit/press mouse so you dont actually have to hit tab and then hit mouse.

    Arcs are great. Much faster than always creating circles then trimming what you don't want (my old workflow :p ). I'll have to practice the tangent arc, not sure when I'd use it off the top of my head.
    BTW I like the extra reminders or callbacks to earlier videos like what the orangeish area means, or blue sketch lines vs black, and what the constraint icons mean. Now that I've practiced and watched the videos these little things really help me remember what they mean without having to even think about it.

      Hi, Jim. I'm happy to hear the little reminders in each video have been helpful! I'll keep throwing little reminders and tricks in there :)
      The tangent arc isn't used on a daily basis, however, when you stumble upon a scenario where it can be used...you'll find it's super helpful. I'll try to incorporate it into a future lesson. Cheers, Kevin :)

    I want to use Fusion for my X Carve. What would be nice is if you could do a few videos dedicated to CNC and also conversion of STL to SVG. I tried to convert your iPhone case pattern STL file and it won't let me :( any help with that would be super dooper!!
    Thanks for all the quality tutorials Kevin, they are really helping me a lot!!!!

      Hi, TwistedF8 pewpewpew. I wasn't planning on doing any CAM workspace videos anytime soon, as there are a few other channels that cover this frequently. However, I will add to the list of video ideas, some solutions to the STL to SVG... as I will be making some videos specific for the Shaper Origin, once I receive mine.
      As far as Fusion 360 running the X-carve... about 4 years ago I was using an X-carve at a makerspace and we could never get it to run properly straight from F360. We were stuck on using Easel... however, things may have changed since then. I will have to do some research and see if any others have had success with this. I know at the time Inventables was not willing to give support to anything but Easel issues.
      To help me create more Fusion 360 content please subscribe and share my videos with others looking to learn Fusion 360 for free! Cheers, Kevin :)

    can you specify the length of the arc in anyway?

  • @alunmj
    @alunmj 9 месяцев назад

    I noticed you dragged the center-point arc around to 300+ degrees, and then back, but finished your arc at under 180 degrees.
    Try leaving the arc angle at, say, 315 degrees. (I'm trying to design a nearly-circular clip to label a pipe-like thing)
    I find that it leaves me with an arc with text that displays as 45 degrees, but takes up 225 degrees on the screen. Is this the same for you, too? Is this a bug? Am I just doing it wrong?

    I don’t even see a sketch dropdown on my computer. There is only create, modify, assemble, etc but no sketch. The sketch option is just above the create dropdown. Why?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад

      Hi Austin. The August toolbar UI changes have effected this. Please watch this video covering all of the critical changes - ruclips.net/video/tuZzHcmFtg4/видео.html
      In short, the sketch geometry options are now all nested under a "Create" dropdown list, if you have the "SKETCH" contextual tab selected. You can also access all of the sketch features from the shortcuts box, which is activated with the keyboard shortcut letter "S". Cheers, Kevin :)

    Glad i found this. yast start to learning fution360... But what i have understand you need to have to get all lines from blue to black.... Why is arc still blue? i have try to find a why to get them to black but no luck,,, ;/

    • @ProductDesignOnline

      HI, Tobias. Arcs need their radii defined (arc dimension) and then the two endpoints need to be defined with either constraints or dimensions. Try to click and holding on the sketch to see what sketch entities move.

    Arcs in Fusion 360 appear to be limited ie the 3 point arc has no depth parameter. Is there a way around this odd feature.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад

      You can add a sketch dimension or constraints to any of the points. The "Conic Curve" sketch feature may also be helpful depending on what you're modeling.

    Interested in your advice as I try to design a folding knife. I 1st started out using Draft site but there was no way Play a lot of money. So that is why I started using fusion 360 but this just seems way more difficult. Not sure how I can create different layers and get things to interact the way I was using it before

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад

      You'll likely want to use a surface model approach for the blade of the knife. If you check out the "playlists" tab of my channel you will find several surface modeling tutorials.

      @@ProductDesignOnline awesome thank you so so much I will check it out then probably have some more questions. I want to create the 2d outline first then extrude and champfer from there. I just dont get the arc features on here because on DraftSight you select the 3 points in a row then you can alter the radius after but with the arc features in fusion it's like a perfect radius.... it's frustrating. Maybe I need to use a polyline? Not quite sure but I'll save the questions till after u watch the surface modeling videos. I really appreciate all the help and the willingness to answer the dumb rookie questions that I have. But you dont k ow what you dont know and I was used to the last software and it's just different in fusion so I'm trying to figure it out. I have created a drawing ont to scale on paper for the general outline and shape I want but cant figure out how to set the picture in the background so i can trace over the image and also confused about the layers and how the menu on the left is setup. Like can i name one part blade, one part handle how side, one part handle lock side, one part backspacer and then one part pocket clip?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад +1

      @@danielmccoy1021 Yep! Well... You can rename any of the assets in the Browser (layers). However, you'll want to make sure you create "components" for each individual part. If you check out my channel homepage you'll find a video that covers the difference between bodies and components. That is probably the most important concept to understand that is unique to Fusion 360.

      @@ProductDesignOnline I really appreciate all of your help. This has made a huge difference. I feel like this program is awesome but there are 10 different ways to do the same thing. With that said I would love to see a video demo of how you would make a folding knife. Example going from the sketch or shape to then extruding and then adding the champfer and such for the scales and then the bevel or grind for the blade. I have kinda figured it out but I feel like there is a better way to do this that would be more reliable and easier for the CNC machines to read. Hopefully this makes sense to you as I still do not have the language down so well yet. I am planning on having this knife 3d printer to test fit the ergonomics and then make small tweaks prior to submitting for review to the company I am proposing the design to for production. Any way I can imagine you are very busy and probably do not have the time to make one video for one person but hopefully others will find it useful as there is not much available on the tube for folding knife designs that are easy to understand. I appreciate you way of teaching and explanation because if I'm going to be able to repeat it I have to understand what and why I am doing it that way
      Cheers
