    Thanks Kevin for the great tutorial again. I have a few cases that I need a curve path to match exactly certain heights and dimensions to match the technical specifications of that part. I have been thinking how can I do this without driving myself crazy and to get the right curve as well. I now can see that the 'Control Point Spline' tool is exactly what I have been looking for and I guess it's going to save me a lot of time in the future!

    This looks great - thanks - all your videos are comcise cl;ear and authoritative and I've watched a lot of them. However, Fusion 360 is moving so fast that most F360 videos are already so out of date as to be almost useless. Now (July 2020) the comb is not not in the sketch pallet but available outside it by clicking body edges, and it cannot be viewed whilst designing a splined curve. This makes making a smooth spline extremely tedious. The only kind of spline now is the fit point spline and there is no way to specify G3 or G5. I am having a nightmare trying to draw a simple sketch which I can then extrude, chamfer and shell. The chamfers and shells keep failing and F360 support keep telling me my splines are to blame and not the software. I don't get it - if I can do it wiht a piece of wood and a chisel, shouldn'y it be a valid shape for a CAD package too? DO you know about this problem with extruding and shelling splines? Do you know how to fix it? Any help is aprpeciated. Thanks.

    What extension does Fusion 360 use when saving a file and can you use these files for modifying? I found a great push block for use on my table saw but need to modify the screw holes. This is when I thought about importing the file and modifying if it is possible.

    • @ProductDesignOnline

      Hi, Rud Dog. Fusion's main file type is the Fusion Archive File, which saves as the ".f3d" extension. However, you can import and export a large number of file types (see below). The most common file type from a number of CAD programs is the STEP Files which can be abbreviated as the following:
      .ste
      .step
      .stp
      I find the STEP files to be the most versatile/cross-compatible across a number of programs. When finding files online, you'll often be presented with a few options to choose from. It never hurts to download/save all the options...as in some rare cases, you'll find that certain file types don't import correctly. Cheers, Kevin :)
      --
      The following file types can be imported into Fusion 360:
      Autodesk Alias (*.wire)
      AutoCAD DWG Files (*.dwg)
      Autodesk Fusion 360 Archive Files (*.f3d)
      Autodesk Fusion 360 Toolpath Archive Files (*.cam360)

    There's a software called Carnac that let's your keytstrokes display to the screen, which I think would be very helpful on F360 tutorials.

      Hi, Andy. Thanks for the suggestion. The screen recording software does have the capability to show keystrokes. I do have this on many of my tutorials. However, it's a tricky topic as many times they cover up or make it hard to see whats happening in the canvas window. I try always display keyboard shortcuts for all videos....and then my sculpting tutorials have all the other keystrokes since there are a lot involved.
      I'll consider add more in the other tutorials...it'll take some playing around with to find the right balance. Thanks again! Cheers, Kevin :)

      Hi Bill. You can add sketch dimensions and constraints to points of the spline. That's generally the best way to make them very specific / keep them the same. The other option would be to mirror or copy that part of the spline, depending on what you're trying to achieve.

For instance, sketch A is the base of on object, and sketch B the top of an object, while sketch C contains rails to use in the Loft. Now, If I copy one of the splines already created, turn it 180 degrees, I need to place the rails' point exactly on the mirrored point on the base sketch - or, perhaps how does one mirror the sketch containing the rails?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  2 года назад

      Hi Arman. He would have to dimension and constrain each of the different control points. Splines are a bit trickier and take quite a bit of time to fully define. As an alternative, you can use the "Fix" constraint to lock it... Just note that you will have to unfix it if you want to make any updates.

    This fit point spline tool is the most annoying of the lot. I have 3 circles. First in centre the others on offset planes. The fit point spline will not snap to them. The snap to is selected I have checked.

    • @jamesbarratt593
      @jamesbarratt593 4 года назад +1

      Thats with centre diameter circles on offset planes it won't snap to their lines. If I draw a straight line with three horizontals coming off it the spline tool will snap to those no problem.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад

      Hi James. Can you tests if the spline snaps to other geometry (non-circles). If so, then it would be a bug or issue with circles. Otherwise, it's likely another setting that is causing this. Cheers, Kevin :)

    • @jamesbarratt593
      @jamesbarratt593 4 года назад

      Remember vividly that it would not snap to circle on offset plane above, then also circle above that too. Only the first circle below. Then if i opened a new window and did 3 horizontal lines of different lengths above one another as you had, it would snap to the ends on the left side. Never tried the right. Then when I tried to add a spline to the line by right clicking, the option was not there. Presumed the ui change was the reason. So tried clicking line and nothing. No selection happening.

      Based on the information you provided, I'm not exactly sure what it could be. However, I do know there was a known fit point spline "bug" in the past. Try right-clicking on a spline point and select the "move/copy" command. See if the move command lets you move it. That has been a known workaround in the past.
      See if that helps. Another thing to check would be to make sure you don't have any constraints restricting your spline points from moving. Cheers, Kevin :)
