How To Install A MAGIC EYE For Sky Box

- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2025
- This video shows you how to install an infra red magic eye so that you can view anc control your Sky box in two or more rooms.
The magic eye if also commonly known as remote eyes and connected to the RF2 ouput on the back of Sky boxes. If your Sky box doesn't have an RF2 output you will also need an add on i/0 link modulator which will allow you to do this.
Also demonstrated in the video is the SPC4F TV link combiner which allows multiple RF2 cables to be connected togther so multiple Sky boxes can be viewed and controlled anywhere around the house. Хобби
Well, pity some found it waste of their time. It may not be particularly slick, but the content is good. Solved my issue. I have my remote room sky working well now thanks to this video. There are several practical nuggets in this video. Thanks Tom
Thanks & you're welcome, glad the video was of some use for you.. As you can tell the video was done with a single take, no script or editing. Will probably look to improve at a later date when I have a larger following. All the best. Tom.
@@smartaerials I'm trying to find if it's possible to connect my Amstrad DRX890 SKY HD Box to my Samsung 65" LED so that the IR recover on the Samsung TV either allows the sky HD remote to work or I use the Samsung remote to operate my sky box. The reason is I want to put my sky HD Box in a cupboard. I know there are IR sensors but hoping I don't have to. Thanks in advance. Rob
Spent 5 hours trying to get this to work .It worked on over side of bedroom. Then you mentioned wall plates on sockets.Ha got the extension lead plugged it in the socket I had on other side of room , worked a treat. When the workers put up plaster board wall and sparky put in wall plugs, wall plate, no wall plate, if only you mentioned it first , 😂
Oh no, well I'm glad that you persisted with it and got it working. Tom
Well you lost me 😂but I did learn how to do my volume on my remote from your other video, but your are also so humorous 😂😂😂 great job 👍⭐️

Very helpful, many don't know that RF1 is not suitable as it has no DC power out that magic eye needs to run, so use RF2 output but it needs to be set to ON from the menu, as explained in your video . Well done Sir.
Brilliant help, set up and working within a couple of minutes following your instructions.
Many thanks!
Thanks Steve and you're welcome.
Top job sorted my problem out moved from channel 68 to 48 perfect picture on all 3 tv 👍🏻

Thanks couldn’t remember it was so long
Brilliant advice, had an issue with picture but no sound, now sorted just before the T.V vacated the premises!!!! Thank you

Can I connect a magic eye to a zgemma box
Hi Kerry. Yes but you would need an external modulator which can power the remote eyes. The Zgemma box must also have an analogue video-out connection to connect into the modulator, something like a phono or Scart connection. A Triax Tri-Link Modulator kit would do the job. Alternatively instead of installing an analogue modulator, you could install a digital one which would connect to the HDMI connection. It get's a bit more complicated and costly if you wanted to go this way.
thanks, Sky's info wasn't relevant for my sky box, yours worked for me
Hi Maria. Glad the video helped you. Please do subscribe to our channel. Tom
Mine has been working perfectly for years. Had an issue with my TV and unfortunately the cable for magic eye fell out. I replaced it and although I get the sky working in my bedroom the magic eye does not work. I’ve turned RF out off and switched off box for 5 mins. Turned back on and set RF on but still not working. Any help would be really appreciated.
can anyone help I have a sky box but want to buy a freesat box that records at the moment I have the HDMI out from my sky box going into a HDMI with gives me 2 outputs and have run the HDMI into another room and just use the sky eye. is there a way to control the freesat box from another room?
Yes you need something like a TV Link Plus, works the same with the sky eye but you also have another infra red emitter that sits in front of the Freesat box which relays the infra red commands from your handset.
@@smartaerials thank I heard of the TV Link Plus but what infa red emitter would I need to buy and how do these work with a sky eye? not really sure how the output from a sat nav box goes into the tv link ?
The emitter comes with it. You don't really need to connect an input unless you want to send a TV aerial signal with it. as you're running the HDMI separate.
@@smartaerials do you sell them? I also have a tv aerial going into the other room just to work the sky eye remote from the sky box RF2, I want to give up sky as I have a fire stick but wanted a freesat box that records dont seem to be much choose out there since humax stopped making them
Tv in main room with sky hd box is on stand by as is sky box,
Tv In bedroom has magic eye but when I activate it it also put tv on in main room downstairs !
How can I stop tv coming on other than pulling the plug on tv downstairs?
Thanks for this. Especially the bit about lowering the channel to 38. I had annoying interference on the screen but this sorted it, thanks
You're welcome Kev! Yes the annoying interference would have most likely been 4G. Glad the video helped you. Please do subscribe to our RUclips channel.
I have a cable running from Sky HD+ box in the lounge to tv in the kitchen. I have tv link fitted and it works okay intermittently. Suddenly screen goes blank and message appears , “does not support HDCP”. Can you advise how to solve this please? I now you can get an HDMI splitter but how would it have to be fitted? Many thanks
Thank you - that did the trick.

Done everything got great picture but no sound tried different rf numbers all the same, any ideas?
Yes it will be the sound mode, on the analogue tuning menu on your TV you will have an option between different sound settings, these will be like BG, BK etc. You want to select 'I'.
I have no access to my communal sky dish other than the feed into my flat, can I split the signal from the dish to three more sky hd boxes to work independantly in other rooms or does each box need to be attached to an LNB?
Many thanks.
HI Paul, if you're on a communal system most likely that you're connected to a multi-switch amplifier. I'm afraid the answer is no to that question as you would need some more connections into your flat. You may be able to split one feed into three with a Smart splitter and Sky+ boxes set up in SCR mode but the amplifiers need to be compatible to be able to do this.
Hi, many thanks for your very speedy reply. You've just saved me money and time. I think I will put those two things to better use and go to the pub instead. Cheers.

Proception Digi eyes from Toolstation, only £5.50, has an f connector for the coax, so nice and secure. For my purposes rg59 cable is good enough, as I got a 100m roll of it for free. Picture more than ok over 25 metres, 3 tv's sorted. Love your slightly haphazard presentation style, unlike the boring scripted tutorials.
Thanks Rupert, as you can tell (and I constantly get reminded) not scripted, single take and no editing. Please subscribe to our channel. Tom
Hello Smart Aerials
At the moment i have my sky box down stairs and i have run a coax cable to my DVD / VCR combo and i attached a Sky Magic eye onto the back of the DVD /VCR
and the DVD 'VCR connected by Scart to my Television and that has work like a dream for donkeys years allow me to change channels
But i recently had to buy a new Television which has no Scart connector sockets only HDMI sockets and 3 coloured pin sockets
There lays the problem my DVD / VCR combo doesn't have a HDMI port
So i am hoping you can give me some advise or maybe a solution
PS : I am not very tech minded :) please help
Thanks for this video, really helpful. All sorted but one problem I can't solve and wondered if you could help:
For some reason, when I turn the second TV on (the one that now has the RF out connection in a different room to Sky box), the TV in the first room (where the Sky box is installed and TV is currently connected via HDMI) automatically turns on. How can I change settings so that the second TV doesn't remotely control the first TV?
Hi I a sky eye system at home, small box on main TV, reviver box on the other. Plugged in with scart leads in both tvs. Working fine for yrs. My sister recently bought a new TV, no scart connection,, just hdmi and the old one has only 1 scart which sky box is using.
What I'm looking for is a sky eye system with hdmi leads not scart. Are they available, so basically a wireless system
You will want some sort of HDMI wireless sender. I can't really recommend any as I never use them. They can be quite expensive also.
@@smartaerials OK thanks for the reply.
Ive been looking into the system you've done in video. So I might sound completely idiotic here, but does that device you've used plug into main TV from sky and then a second TV anywhere in the house will pick up he signal? Is that what your device does. Because I took it you needed to. Run a coax cable. From main TV to 2nd.
I have just changed from a sky + 780 box to the newer 890 box and have a magic eye connected to a tv in another room to the box ... will the eye work? So far I have a picture but can’t control it through the eye
Should do, maybe you need to log in to the installer menu and switch the power on for for the remote eye?
Where’s the sky q version vidéo? Can’t find it 😢
Hi.. I have a problem. I got a smart TV in my bedroom and done what you explained. I have the picture but no sound.. have you come across this before?
Yes it will be the sound mode, on the analogue tuning menu you will have an option between different sound settings, these will be like BG, BK etc. You want to select 'I'.
Your a genius in this field.. thanks man..

I already have Sky+HD signal via RF on 3 other televisions with main signal via HDMI on 1 other television. I am using av senders to get the sky remote to work on the 3 televisions that use sky signal via RF. What do I need to do to swap out the av senders for magic eyes?
I'm assuming that the RF2 feeds into a distribution amp for the three additional TV's. This must be a 'DC passing' type. Youl will then need to switch the RF power out inside the installer menu of the Sky box and install the remote eyes.
Very helpful thanks. One query I have, is that on the second TV fed by the I/O port, the picture is not full width (i.e. it has both sides sides cropped from so that overall I may be getting only 75% of full width) and it can't be adjust on the second TV picture width settings, because the 25% missing isn't there to be adjusted...........any suggestions?
Hi, my female to female rf2 connector has stopped conducting power. When the eye is directly on the sky rf2 the light comes on but not when the connector is in between. I tried a different female to female connector to double check but it still didn’t power it. The strangest point is it used to work. Any suggestions? My connector didn’t look like the one you used; it was just a standard Philips brand.
Hey mate, my magic eye system to change the sky channel is having problems, an intermittent problem, sometimes I can change channel, others not at all, varies from time of day. We can get a picture but have to change channel in the room where the sky box is. Have had a an aerial guy but he’s been twice, fitted new eyes gets it working but an hour later the prob returns. Any ideas?
Hi Buddy, Can I do this with a Virgin Media box.? Thanks
Yes you can, but you will need another piece of equipment like a Triax Tri-link Modulator. An Infra emitter is positioned is front of the Virgin box and the remote eye is installed at the second TV position like in this video. Please note your Virgin Media box will need to have some sort of analogue video out like a SCART, phono or composite video, you may need SCART/phono adapter also. Alternatively you could try and send the Virgin Media box as a digital channel or in HDMI, but it get's a bit more complicated here and costs a fair amount more for the equipment.
@@smartaerials Thanks
spot on mate thanks

My tv in the kitchen is connected to sky box via tv link but keeps stopping “does not support HDMC” How do I solve this? Thank you.
Sorry I don't know what HDMC is, are you sure that is says that? Not something like HDCP?
Thankyou so much 🙏🏿
Thanks for sharing this and it’s really helpful for me. And I have a requirement of having few free sat boxes and free-view tv point in 4 places around the house which I can add later.
In each tv point there are 2 coaxial cables hanging and all the other ends left in a cupboard. Also I could able to find the 2 sat cables and 1 tv antenna cable in the cupboard and connected satellite signals to my main tv point.
Is there way to distribute tv antenna signals to 1 cable and sat signals to 1 cable hanging in all 4 tv point? In that case I can add tv directly or use free sat box. Much appreciate if you can help me with this. Thanks
Hi there, you could install a distribution amplifier, connect the TV aerial cable and one cable of the 4 TV points. This would give you Freeview at each point and all you would need is a digital TV and no Freeview box (unless you wanted to record). It's not so simple with the satellite cables, if you only have two cables coming from your dish you won't be able to distribute these to all four TV points. Tom
Can you use magic eye with sky Q?
Hi Mark, yes you can but not out of the box, you will need some more equipment to do it. Quite a few ways of doing it. There is some more info here. www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/how-to-distribute-sky-q-around-the-home
Any chance you could tell me how to connect an eye to my sky + hd box to feed my current tv as my box is behind a cupboard door and we could use the eye for the remote? Thank you
Hi Cheryl, same method as is in the video accept there is no need to tune the TV in as you will be watching this through a HDMI cable. Tom
I have one cable from my sky dish and one sky+hd box. From time to time, I have to switch the coax cable from input 1 and 2 to get signals. I bought a splitter to use both inputs on my box from one coax cable from the lnb but it didn't work. Do you know why I have this issue with my box?
Setting the box to single feed mode will stop you having to switch the coax cable from input 1 to input 2. If you split the satellite cable it will never work properly, you will need an extra cable from the satellite LNB. Bit more info here: www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/why-cant-you-split-a-satellite-signal-cable
If I want to connect my sky HD box from a downstairs room to an upstairs room, do I need to run a new coax connection through the house to connect the sky box with the 2nd tv? Or is there a way to connect it without having to do this?
Yes that is the best way to do it. There are wireless systems but they are really hit and miss. Or you could go for Sky Q which will obviously cost you a bit more.
Hey thanks for the video helped me out. I’m set up now in other room watching sky through the magic but remote does not work? (It is a working remote I tested it in the main room) please can you help
Hi, has the red LED light on your remote eye illuminated?
Hi, i have connected as you said i am getting sky on 2nd tv but no freeview channels. Anyone advise? Thanks
Hi, Is the aerial for Freeview connected into the Sky box? Ypu also need to tune separately for Freeview on the digital side of some TV's.
Smart Aerials yes the outside aerial goes into the sky box aerial 1, rf1 to 1st tv, rf2 2nd tv
Hiya, I really hope you can help me!!! I've just watched your video as I was getting interference on my sky upstairs, with the magic eye, and so I lowered it to 38 as you said, but now the sky has completely gone off and I can't get it back on!!! I still have the green light on the magic eye and the sky is still on/working downstairs. Can you please advise me on what to do now. Thanks
Tom don't worry, found one of your other videos that explained what to do and I managed to sort it. Thanks, very useful videos 👍
Hi Sarah, if you move the RF channel number on the Sky, you will need to retune the TV upstairs. Tom
Just for information my tv which is Sony only worked with the code 0000 so if you have a Sony tv use that code because in my case the other one didn’t.
Hi Tom, Thanks for that video. Could i run cat 5 cable instead of coax though? Cheers
HI Ste. You can but you would need some Cat 5 video baluns in order to do it. It would cost a fair amount more but you could get HD that way.
@@smartaerials Cheers for the reply. Great, i want HD in the two bedrooms so i will go with that. I take it the same logic in the vid applies but I'd need the baluns for the connections?
There are a few ways to do it. If you have digital TV's it might just be easier to fit a digital modulator, create a digital channel out of the Sky box and tune this into your TV. You would need some HDMI over Cat5/6 baluns so you would need to come out of the HDMI output. You would also need something to split the HDMI signal to the two rooms.
Thank you, sorted all my problems out.
Your welcome Paul. Please do subscribe to to our channel. All the best. Tom
Why does my magic eye switch on the main television when I switch sky on my bedroom tv?
Hi Phil, most likely what's happening is that the HDMI connection is telling the TV to switch on. In the installer menu there are a couple of options. You need to switch HDMI power off.
Just got a new smart tv and a sky +hd box. But the magic eye is no longer working in the kitchen & bedroom😟 super frustrated
Hi Siobhan, if the picture is there you just need to turn the RF power supply on the Sky box on, start on this video from 8 minutes and follow the process from there.
Could you do a video for Sky Q magic eye. I've found a way by using a HDMI Splitter fed into a a HDMI to scart convertor and then into a RF modulator. But even this doesn't include any infrared control and it is quite complex. Have you got a better way. Cheers Matt.
Hey Matthew. Yes depends on your budget. A better way would be to use a HD digital modulator which would convert the HDMI signal into a digital TV channel which can be tuned in on digital TV's. This would give it a much better picture than the RF modulator or the RF2 output on the Sky box. Regarding the Infrared control, if the extra TV's are beyond reach of the bluetooth handset, you can still use the magic eyes, you would just need something like a TV Link +, this would have an IR emitter which would sit in front of your Sky Q box and work with and power the magic eyes. I will get a video up when I have the bits and pieces here :) I have written a blog on this subject, it might be of some help to you. www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/how-to-distribute-sky-q-around-the-home
Smart Aerials Smart Aerials Thanks mate, I've never heard of HD Modulators before, but I guess a HD Modulator would be quite expensive but compared to a Sky Q Multiscreen package it is a lot cheaper. I am currently using the Sky Q 1TB box, so I will purchase a Sky touch remote to allow for the bluetooth connection as I only have the non-touch remote without bluetooth. Thanks for your help. I will chase the cable up through the wall from the box downstairs to the upstairs bedroom. Can you reccommend a good HD Modulator ? Thanks again, matt.
Hi Matthew, If you're keeping your HDMI switch in place you could use something like this. cpc.farnell.com/labgear/em1000/modulator-hdmi-to-dvb-t-hd-encoder/dp/AP03329?st=hd%20modulators I personally use the Antiference models but that wasn't a bad price for that. Alternatively if you have to run a new cable you could use some HDMI-CAT extenders if you have come across these before?
Is there a video on how I can do this with sky q yet
No sorry, I will get one uploaded soon. This blogs discusses the subject and might be helpful for you. www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/how-to-distribute-sky-q-around-the-home
Hi, Have you got a link to the video for how to do the remote eye on the sky q box please?? (I can’t find it on you’re channel) thanks Gary
Sorry Gary, not at the moment. But if you go into the Sky box settings to can follow the on screen instructions.
Gary Lord do you know if sky q works with a hdmi extenders via cat 6 cable want to run to tv in bedroom but sky q is downstairs, so want to change channels in bedroom....
Smart Aerials can you run 2 TVs off of one sky q box via a hdmi splitter and hdmi extenders with cat 6 cable , had sky engineers today who seem to think it won’t work, ie I may get the picture on the second tv but I would have to go to sky q box to turn channel over , which is not ideal when your watching tv in bed 😁
Hi Jason. Yes it will work. You will need to just buy some extenders that also allow IR to pass through. You will will have a remote eye at your 2nd TV and an IR emitter that needs to be position correctly in front of your Sky Q box. Unless you're using a Bluetooth remote and the second TV is within distance of the first Sy Q box in which case you can just use that. You may run into trouble if you're running 4K in your main room and anything less like 1080p in your second room.
Smart Aerials what if it’s a Bluetooth remote, will it still work via the extenders
Just when I thought things were sorted here's one for You!
One week without a sky card which just stopped working, got a new one but now the sky links on 3 tv's has a picture and sound but the remotes will not turn the channels over, I've tried changing the rf channels but still no good, also noticed when you press any remote button it puts ripples of interference on the screen😣
Has anyone got any ideas as tearing my hair out !!!!
Baz
Have you had a new Sky box installed Barrie?
Yes had a new sky box which is what's led to the issue, I've since found the problem it was a pin bent over on the sky link which goes into the rear of the sky box itself😉
Thank you for replying all the same 👍
Do you no why my magic eye may make my TV make a noise like the speaker is vibrating ?
Hi Ash, you could be on the wrong sound setting. Are you getting normal volume as well as the speaker vibrating?
Hi yes I get normal volume
