Smallville: Lois can tell when it's really Clark...Lana can't

  • Somebody requested that these two scenes be put side by side for a comparison and I obliged.
I hate fan wars, but I totally agree that this proves that Lois is Clark's soulmate. Lois could tell it was the real Clark in a matter of seconds. Lana lived with Bizarro for a month and she couldn't tell it wasn't really Clark.
Just to clarify: this was a request; I didn't make this for my own entertainment.
I own nothing! Scenes belong to the CW and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
    Enjoy!

      Rudy E.
She couldn't see through the facade. He was doing anything she wanted, he told her they should escape together, something she never questioned, despite that the real Clark would never ask that since he puts his responsibilities first. She even said that she had never been happier than she was during the time spent with the impostor Clark. When Chloe asked her if she found "Clark" to be acting strangely, she said that maybe he had changed his priorities, which was ridiculous. She never suspected a thing. Now in all fairness to her, their relationship had already started to take a turn for the worse even before Bizarro showed up. but if she really knew Clark inside and out, she should've noticed something.
Compare that to Lois' reactions and you can see why Lois knew who Clark was so much better than Lana.

Bizarro was doing doing exactly what she wanted he even said she deserved to have all of her dreams come true something the real Clark wont & can't give her. Whereas the real Clark had obligations in his life that he had to put 1st & as much as he wanted to put Lana 1st he couldn't he had sacrifices to make too bad Lana didn't want him to do that. She wanted Clark to always put her 1st which is selfish the signs were right there in front of him but the writers made Clark real pussy whipped.

Lois and Clark had no on screen chemistry. It's actually very obvious that every single person who likes Lois and Clark is because of the comics, while people who like Lana and Clark is because of the show. Literally, once Lana left, the writers just pushed Lois and Clark together. There was very little reasoning as to why they were attracted to each other in the first place, though this is partly due to limited leftover seasons.

"Force" is a strong word to use for how Lana felt about his secret. She didn't try to force it out of him but the number 1 thing that bothered her about Clark was that he couldn't be 100% honest with her. That's all she really wanted from him. It was less about him holding a secret from her and more about the fact that he felt like he couldn't be honest with her about it. I mean the guy basically broke up with her all because of the secret. Lois on the other hand knew about the secret but it wasn't as big a deal for her partially cause she didn't start seeing Clark as anything more then a good friend until way later down in the line. I think that has a lot to do with it. Clark always had feelings for Lana ever since they were kids and before they even really became friends and then when they did become close and eventually date she just wanted him to be honest with her. Lois didn't think that deep into it cause she didn't start liking him in that way till much later on. And even when she did see him like that she figured he'll tell me when he feels ready. I don't think neither was right or wrong in the way they feel it was just a difference in how they felt about the idea of someone they love holding a secret.

If this was Lana from early to mid season 5 it wouldn't have happened. You have to realize Lana in season 7 wasn't quite herself, she had gone through so much trauma and aside from the one episode she got half of Clark's powers they never really made out, I think she had forgotten what's Clark's kisses really felt like by then, or she was desperately trying to cling onto a Clark that existed in early season 5, when he was more assertive and willing to fight for her.
Clark changing in S7 and Lana's trauma caused this to go down as it did. Lois never delt with such trauma and she loved the newer more mature Clark with that boyscout morality because that's mostly what she knew, Lana tried to accommodate Clark's ever growing demands for righteousness but I think it was just to much especially earlier in the season when Bizarro was around.
Maybe at the end of S7 she would have been better while working on growing together with Clark and them both accepting one another again but we never got to see that fully play out because brainiac put Lana in a coma.

    @itmiami5441 3 года назад +94

I've said it many times. Lana was high school love. Adolescent attraction. I thought they kept her there, orbiting his circle and continuing to be a nuisance, for way too long. Possessing no redeeming qualities, but acting like she was a prize. She was with Clark, always demanding that he be what she desired, rather than desiring who he really was. Lois was genuinely attracted to Clark because of the friction that constantly existed between them. There was constant, constructive conflict. They exist as an ever developing pair, continually driving each other to be better.

    • @DragonflyandTheWolf
      @DragonflyandTheWolf 6 месяцев назад +2

It really bothered me that the show never let Clark choose NOT to be with Lana. Like. . .their relationship was so chaotic. Woman literally married his former best friend turned enemy, and when she got out of it, she was just like, "okay we can be together now!" The show never let Clark acknowledge how truly shitty this relationship was and have him CHOOSE to walk away. They had to write some convoluted plot that made it impossible for them to be together. We never got to see him actively choosing to be with Lois over her. He even dropped Lois like a sack of potatoes when Lana showed up for her final episode in the series.

  • @smallxville

  • @RiaAnd
    @RiaAnd 7 лет назад +1607

of course Lana wasn't his soulmate. I can't believe there was a debate about this. She never understood him. She always took other peoples' side over him. she always got mad at him first and realized second she was wrong after proof of "why things happened this way" slapped her in the face. And she never could get through her thick skull that he just wasn't, ever ready to tell her his secrets! I mean come on. At some point a person has to understand, "okay, he'll tell me when he's ready. I'll wait for him to trust me." But no. she never waited for him. it was always, "Why Clark? Clark, what are you hiding? Clark! Whatever it is, I can handle it! Tell me. Tell me! TELL ME!" And then she tricked him into revealing his powers. geez.. I just wanted to tell her so bad... "Give. Him. Time.... That's all you have to do."

And to make matters worse, after Clark tells her his secret and they reunite in S7, she starts keeping secrets, and not the kind Clark was keeping. Clark was keeping that he is an alien a secret, but everyone still saw what Clark's true personality was, he never was able to hide that. But Lana was pretending to be a good person, while doing some messed up shit behind Clark's back. Chemistry is subjective. And you are just saying that because you are deep in clana lenses. Clois have a deeper and mature chemistry. The kind of relationship and interaction that is long and lasting . There was honesty, camaraderie ,trust, respect and lack of artifice between them.Clana is the type of chemistry that might thrilled a lot of gooey eyed teenagers. But it will never last because of the lack of trust ,respect and idealistic expectations between them. Lana became a darker character as the story progressed. I think being able to tell Clark apart from his impostors isn't what makes Lois or Lana his soulmate. But Clark did tell Lois from Earth-2 that he couldn't live in a world where Lois didn't love him, meaning he couldn't live without her. When Lana left him (even though the situation was dire since Lana absorbed a great deal of green kryptonite so she couldn't be around him), Clark was able to accept that fact. Chloe even mentioned that since Lana had left he never said a word about her. And while Lana became his greatest weakness, Clark admitted to Lois she's his source of strength.

Wow!! So true and well said. I'm not sure she overstayed her welcome so much as they should have ended the relationship between Lana and Clark in S6. We should have had a season w/o any romance between Lana and Clark, to show they both had moved on _because_ they matured... like most off us do regarding our high school sweetheart and season 7-10 should have been more about the relationship build up to Clois. As for me, as soon as Lois was introduced in S4, I was "over" the whole Clark and Lana love story.
At the _very_ least the episode in S8 when Lana reappeared should have been the final word of their relationship. What she says to Clark in the barn really sounds like a mature acknowledgement of their past and a recognition that it was time they each moved on because "I'm exactly where I need to be" (Lana to Clark, Bride S8 Ep 10) the remaining episodes didn't need to have a romantic element to tell the story... w/o the "i'm kryptonite - we have to be apart sacrifice" idiocy that was obviously more about clana fan service than good writing.

A lot of things people say about Lana are just out of proportion or out of spite. Lana gets told by a ton of people not to trust Clark because he's hiding something, yet stays with him for years. And a lot of the up and down was Clark himself. Most of the time when she mentions the secret, it's either because something terrible happened or it's just a joke. "A Kent secretive who would've guessed.". And then they both laugh, cause it's a joke. Anyway Lana wanting to sleep with Clark wasn't being needy. It was reasonable, beause they wee together. Then he rises from the dead and Lex tells her Clark's not normal. And she asks Clark about his health, before he says they're distant because of her studying astronomy. Then people ignore Clark being needy. For instance, he goes blind or his father is distant and all he wants is to be with Lana again when she helps him out as a friend. Adam and Lana never dated, so I don't get the victim blaming in that relationship. Adam just pretends to be an orphan that has no where to go and Lana says they're just friends and gives him a place to stay. Before finding out he's stalking Clark. Lana thinks meteor freaks are dangerous and people call her bigoted despite meteor freaks being the main villains in the show for years. Lana wants to use Let's money to end immigrant slavery and people say she's obsessed with power and that's why she got with Lex. It's ridiculous and obsessively hateful. They just get adrenaline from painting Lana to be this raving seductress. People just want someone to hate and blame for whenever Clark decides he doesn't want to be a hero or Lex decides he wants to be evil.

She liked Lex because at least at first Lex didn't treat her like a delicate little flower that would break from the slightest bit of adversity. He didn't wear kid gloves around her. And shared at least a few of his biggest secrets with her. And inevitably she started stepping up knowing that to be a Luthor you're going to have to be a little cunning or get stepped on. Unfortunately for Clark, you tend to take a little bit of what you learn from each relationship with you so he got Lana with a little bit of Luthor deceit thrown in.

Avec Aastha I think for Lex he honestly tried to be at least what he thought was a good person at first. But on one side of the candle you had Johnathan Kent that no matter what Lex did he just kept hammering at the fact he was a Luthor and thus not to be trusted. As if your blood defines you. And on the other side of that candle you had Lionel Luthor who manipulated his son by withholding any kind of showing of Love, pride or affection in him. The only time he showed any kind of attention to him is when Lex did something extremely underhanded that Lionel had no choice but to take notice and acknowledge him for.
He was burning the candle on both ends and eventually decided okay fine if I'm going to be seen as a villain no matter what I do I might as well just accept what I am. It's such a shame because it ruined a good friendship.

Chloe knew that Bizarro wasn't Clark in this episode and Lois knew that Clark Luthor wasn't Clark Kent in Season 10 which IMO just shows that Chloe and Lois knew Clark a lot better than Lana. The only reason Lana thought Bizarro was Clark was because he spent the episode given her her own way and revolving his life around her like Lana arrogantly and selfishly wanted the real Clark to do because Lana believed she was more important than the safety of the world and the lives of its people. The fact that Lana thought Bizarro was Clark purely because Bizarro was acting like who she wanted Clark to be rather than who he really was speaks volumes about her selfishness.

    • @hawksasuke97

How I see it, is that Smallville properly introduced Lana Lang and her relationship with Clark in a much more deeper level, whereas in the originals and other Superman films, they mainly focus on the Clois relationship. Yes, in the later seasons they do have that, as they should. But I admire the fact that you get to see Clark's younger years of falling in love and his first true love, to when Clark becomes a man & Superman, and marries his meant-to-be wife.
I think they were both good for Clark, and I don't think either of them are less significant than the other, I just think they are meant for different parts of his life and aren't meant to be contested together. Clark wouldn't be the hero he is if Lana was never in his life and he wouldn't be the 'Clark' he is without Lois in his life.

This is the story of Clark Kent ! It's always has been Lois and it will always be. And in Smallville, Clark has never been more happier than he is when he's with Lois, you just have to look at his behaviour. His love for Lana was strong, for a teenager. But as an adult, he can't even mesure how much he loves Lois.

Kenneth McCall that was exactly what I was thinking a few days ago while watching the episode. I can’t understand clark in a lot of situations regarging lana. She did a lot of really cuestionable things and he never called her on her bs, but he did that when chloe or lois made any (most of time silly) mistakes.
Most of the characters see lana as this perfect angel who do no wrong, and even when she does the blame is in someone else, namely lex, bizarro, most of the time clark, I think that’s one the main reason I despice lana lang, a character who did a lot of wrong but the producers and writers want us to believe she was perfect and totally lovable.
Reading here is crazy her fans to this day still blames clark for all her cuestionable behavior and for the clana dysfuction.

I'm just going to go on an anti Lana rant for a second here :)
Lana was really sweet and nice to Clark during the first season when she didn't really know that he had a thing for her; but starting in like the second season she became the most obnoxious character ever. She would date these meteor infected people who were dangerous and mentally unhinged or worse and then when Clark would try to help her she would accuse him of being jealous and desperate to ruin all her relationships. Despite the fact that he never gave her any reason to think that of him. He was only out to protect her. She did this a nauseating amount of times, and each time Clark was proven correct about the character of the people she chose to associate herself with. Yet she continued to put Clark down. She's the most selfish and annoying character on Smallville.

Remember when Chloe said in 6x10(Persona) "Clark never FORGETS anything..his priorities may be different but his personality is a whole other thing" and seeing as bizzaro was FORGETFUL she knew this isn't my Clark. Lana knows Clark would never sleep with her because he's scared of hurting her,he would never allow her to keep someone infected by brainiac under surveillance to see if anything is different instead of getting her the help she needs in the hospital, Clark would never plot revenge against lex even if lex is plotting his downfall (7x20,7x19 is proof), Clark would never want to leave smallville to a place as far away as Paris etc. With all this million red flags Lana couldn't tell Clark Kent from bizzaro. And even when Chloe told her Clark wasn't himself she refused to listen when the real Clark came and told her she still couldn't spot the difference.

I would just like to add that Lara said to Lana that she has a darkness inside her, and Dakseid's minion Godfrey said Lois has a pure heart 😁 Lana has always been a self centered b, selfish, arrogant, manipulative, power hungry, etc. Like Lionel said a real Luthor. Meanwhile Lois is the supportive, kind, caring, selfless person Clark needed to be a true hero. I mean come on even Lana could tell Clark loved Lois at the beginning. I do believe that Clark loved Lois from the first time he met her but he was so blinded by Lana he simply couldn't see it. Also there's a running theory that Lana was a meteor freak who attracted everyone, which logically makes absolute sense. The second Lana was away from his sight he started really seeing Lois.

Then, after he knew his father was the sacrifice, he could have spilled the beans again even if Lex kissed her. Then he tells Lois and she is safe? Give me a break. Lana wasn't the annoying one, really Clark was and she was frustrating with his secrets and lack of openness. Still, Lois gets props because she is not a selfish person like Lana and would rather he go help others than devote himself solely to her, which is EXACTLY what Bizarro Clark was doing. • @TheGingi7

You also gotta think about how lana and clarks dynamic began vs clark and lois. Lana was already this unatainable love for clark from the start, they began their relationship on unequal ground because he was always trying to be good enough for her whilst also trying to keep his secret. Lama never got to truly know Clark and that was why she could believe anyone that spoke against him, especially compounded with the fact that she didnt know his secret. He was always trying to save face with her but couldnt fully tell her who he was, even in showing his personality. Clark was fully himself around Lois because he wasnt faced with the anxiety of trying to make himself the person she wanted. He had a sense of humor and an ease about him even though he was still keeping his secret. Even though him and lois had their struggles in season 8, because she was in love with him and the blur who she didnt know was him, but she never fully turned on him the way Lana did so often because she actually knew him as a person. Lanas issues with clark were that she only knew half of him. Lois's issues were that in his pursuit of keeping his secret, she felt him to be not heroic enough. Lois wanted someone who had a devotion to mankind while Lana wanted someone devoted to her.

You know I'm not one to hate characters, or people in general, not even Skyler on Breaking Bad (thought she did annoy me some times at first). But Lana, oh my god, I liked her at first! And as the series went on I really wanted to keep liking her but oh my god she was SO mean to Clark!! Seriously she knew how to make Clark feel like shit! I mean I got that they were crushing, and it was cute! I was all for it! But she just knew how to just take him by the heart and just fucking blender the shit out of it. It got to the point where the relationship just felt toxic and fake to me. Lana made mistakes but she never got shit for it, clark was always forgiving towards her but I swear to god she just liked to shit all over him for making mistakes that he couldn't help, but when she makes a mistake she doesn't apologize right and she makes such a goddamn point on how clark shouldn't be mad at her that she said that she liked bizzaro more than the actual clark. How about a "I understand, hey, person who I love and care for, person who's saved me multiple times and has gone through a lot of shit, I understand why your upset." No? Just "stop being mad at me, it was a mistake, i can make mistakes even if it hurts you!" That is what stands out to me as Lana now. So that's my comment rant for you to ignore. XD

brooooooo no doubt. idk what season it was but it was the episodes where the guy who can duplicate his body was dating both lana and cloie(idk how to spell it) any way at the end Clark is like "It hurt a little that you both would believe him over me when I've always been there to help both of you." then he says I expected more from you two" then lana being the BITCH!!!! that she is says "we expected more of you."
what the fuck more did you want lana!!!?? he saved you from dying and suffering emotional damage!!!!...FUCK you lana

I disagree, yes Lana sometimes reacted emotionally, but in the end she always loved Clark and treated him better than anyone else when he let her to. Of course if he keeps asking her out and dump her every time, or pursue a relationship then break up
after a while ( especially cause he wasn't being a good partner, with all his secrecy, confusion and pain) she starts resenting him and treat him in consequence. Clark knew how much shit he put Lana trough, that's why he was ok with her treatment.
Also, Lana always apologized for her mistakes. In season 7 we have Clark forgiving Lana, just like Lana have forgiven Clark for 5 years all the possible strange behaviours and things (without even knowing his secret). Especially because Lana's situation in season 7 is technically Clark's fault. Clark is paying for his mistakes.

Ya know the worst thing? Lana admitted to Clark that it was "easier" with Bizarro.
"Yes. It was easier, Clark. He was more affectionate. He was more understanding."
She bought into Bizarro because he was acting like the Clark she wanted, rather than the Clark she should have known. He duped her, and she fell for it.

+Meera Gandhi Lana was a pain in the ass for Clark. I didn't know very much about supermen and his soulmate (all I knew was in cartoons), and when Lois came to season 4, my sister told me that Lois Lane according to comics was Clark love interest. Since then I was team Lois... :)

I was 7 or 6 when Lois came onto the show, and I always heard around that Lois and Clark were supposed to end up together, and because I didn't watch after Season 7, I never got to see it when it was on the air. Then, my 10 year old self likely would have understood that Lana was just a part of his life, and not his whole life.

I think losing the one he wanted to commit to(season 9), even though he hadn't commited to her to keep that from happening, made him realize that he'd rather be with Lois and possibly lose her, than not be with her to keep her safe and still lose her.

Lana was dating Lex BEFORE all the bad he did to her. I think they were trying to show Lana's true personality. There is a reason why she was so blind to all the lies and deceptions Lex fed her, even when people (Clark, Chloe, etc) pointed it out to her. Yet, she negated all the good Clark was doing for her CONSTANTLY. She would say hateful things to Clark as if, by having secrets from her, he was the evil one. She was ATTRACTED to Lex because they were kindred spirits in many ways.

I completely agree. Lois pretty much demanded to be his equal. Of course it helped that she was older than him and that she saw him as a geeky, dorky guy for the longest time. It made her more objective, instead of looking at him like he was her savior or superhero, like pretty much everyone else did, whether they knew he was the blur or not.

It’s because of Lois personality. The way she sees the world is perfect for Clark. He has so much weight on his shoulders. Lois is strong and positive. They are perfect for each other.

Yeah, this is why I asked you that. But even if he had trusted Lana, it wouldn't have worked out. At some point he did trust Lana, but knowing his secret got her killed. (Remember the proposal?) That's probably the biggest difference between Lana and Lois. Lois can take care of herself, Lana couldn't . There was even a point in season 10 I think where Clark tried to treat Lois the way he did Lana "to proect her" but Lois didn't let him. Lois is literally Clark's strength, Lana was his weakness.

I think this whole scene its fantastic because Lana annoyed the hell out of me since season 3 but, It wasn't till this episode I realize Lana didn't really love Clark besides the physical attraction, she loved an idea of him, just as Clark. Even Chloe realized something was wrong and Lana just didn't want to believe it, because Clark was finally acting like she wanted. Even when Clark himself told her that it wasn't him she just didn't accept it, she was trying with all her heart to give him a reason why he probably didn't remember the last few days, and Clark felt the same way. When Lana got his powers he was trying with everything he had to defend her, saying that she wasn't herself, that it was the powers, that Lana never would do the things she do and even Lionel tells him "have you really allowed yourself to give Lana a serious look?" the powers didn't do anything to Lana, she just finally had the power to do what she wanted, but he just didn't want to believe it. He has even always blind by his crush, he idealized her, he never fall in live with the real Lana, he fell for the idea he had of Lana. That's why I just don't understand the people that says that Clark and Lana belong together in this world when all they had was a romance out of their own ideas
