I have a small problem, and you may help me, here's what it's all about. I bought Vivosmart 5 and I tested HR at the same time, for about an hour, with an apple watch and HRM-Dual Chest Strap on a Garmin Tacx smart trainer in Zwift. The results had not even close. HRM-Dual and Apple gave one result (166 BMP) and Vivosmart 91BMP. HRM-Dual had activity on Zwift, but Apple and Vivosmart did not. I ask around and didn't find the right answer to what could be the issue here. I also change Vivosmart for a new one, and I had the same results. They told me, you have to turn on an activity to have correct results. I said Ok, but what in a rest mode? similar answer. Garmin has to have 99,9% accuracy. Put in other words, we can not help you. I also wanted to buy a better watch, Fenix or Runner, and then I realized, maybe on all Garmin watches HR algorithm works like Vivosmart (If you ask me, totally incorrect and the whole data about stress, battery energy, etc is incorrect) and it will be waste of money.
So could you please test any of Garmin watches in a way: On one watch turn on activity and on the other, not. Check watches from time to time to compare HR on both watches and please tell me the results. thank you so much :)
Thanks for the great comparison. As you mentioned Garmin is bringing new features from the 255 to the 945 LTE, could you please make a comparison video between the two?
Brilliant video (as ever) @DesFit. You've clarified something that DCR was not clear about which is breadcrumb mapping. Do you know if that enables route finding through a pre-made route from Garmin Connect or Strava routes. I use this a lot on my 935, which is due an upgrade, but if so, I don't see the need to jump to the 955 as the 255 would do everything I need it for.

Desfit said they were likely updating the LTE here in the comments. As for the 945, it's running on a (in the tech world) much older interface, sensor set, and HR sensor from literally 2019. Not going to be able to support the new features
Nice video. I’m curious about the accuracy of both the pool swim and open water swim function on 255. If they work well, I’ll pick 255 since I already got edge 530.

HI @Desfit , i am more inclined to MIP display over amoled. 255 tick most of the box feature i need except lacking training readiness. Is it worth going for 955 just for the training readiness features? is this feature helpful?
imo if you are a runner with at lest an year running experience you don't need this feature. And btw 255 still has a body battery which is similar to training readiness
@desfit or anyone who might know the answer to this. Can i play music from my spotify on my phone, and will i be able to change tracks using my watch? Or do i have to download spotify to my watch to listen to music? Hopefully this makes sense.
I have question i need monitory body thinks like spo2. pulse, sleep, strees and using to simple run and make HIT trening and infrmation about rest. What version of this smartwatch is best for amatoure? I need music without phone i think.
Thanks! Cadence is available for running on the watch itself without the need for any additional sensor but cadence for cycling will need a cadence sensor or a crank/pedal power meter.
Great video! Do you know more about when the 945 LTE will receive this feature update, and which features it is? I’m torn between getting the 945 LTE or the 955.
@DesFit Thanks for this review! It’s so jam packed with info and very helpful. Between the 255 and 955. Do you think it’s worth paying more for the 955 for the extra features? Also, which do you prefer between the two?
@@DesFit Yes, that is true. I am wondering how the navigation part works exactly. Also is there a big jump in battery? I might be interested in using music as well, so I have the option to not bring my phone. I know the battery takes a big hit when listening to music and using the gps on both. I have talked to Garmin, and they say you can extend the battery on either one by switching to basic gps when listening to music on the 255 or 955.
Thank you for the comparison! From the video the 255's screen looks a bit sharper and brighter. Maybe the solar glass on the 955 Solar is the cause? Do you know if the 955 non-solar's screen is more like the 255's in this video?
Question. I went for an 8K run and once I was done I clicked on "saved". I then clicked on "back" twice to bring me to the main menu. I forgot that after you "saved" you're suppose to press on the "start" button again to be able to press on "done". So now, the 8k run is in my last 7 days activity folder but it does not show on the top of my watch nor on my garmin app. What am I suppose to do?
Is there any way to get to some sort of kayaking tracking functionality on the 255? i.e. create a custom profile? I'm a bit baffled as to why they cut that, and also exactly what's missing on the 255 vs the 955. Thanks!
I wish they'd add indoor Air Bike such as (Assault bike) to the available Garmin activities. I ride this thing not only for HIIT but also for distance. It's a want, not a need but it would be nice to categorize it under Air Bike rather than indoor cycling or whatever I shuffle it into these days.
Very good video, only have 2 questions: 1. Does 955 has Grade-adjusted pace function? 2. Is there is an option, on 955, to cancel touch screen? Thanks in advance!!!
No grade adjusted pace with the latest round of updates and unsure if that will be included down the road but yes, you can disable the touchscreen. Thanks!
Can not believe there is not a video between 955 vs 945lte 😠 😂 But I’m on the fence of one of the other, I have the fenix 7s, it’s just a little heavier then I like
Thanks for the great comparison! A couple questions (apologies if I missed these) You mentioned they can receive data from a HR sensor, but can they project the data from the built in HR sensor as well? I use a garmin bike computer, could I lose the HR strap if wearing these? Do they support voice control (Siri commands)?
It's called broadcast HR and given your use case, yes you could use a watch for HR but chest strap accuracy will always be higher. No voice functionality
Interesting that Polar Pacer Pro gets you 35 hours of GPS (comparable to 255), but only 7 days in smartwatch mode. Wonder where it looses all the energy? Screen? Tracking (leds)?
I noticed your HRV numbers were very low. Were you sleeping with the watches on every night? I just purchased a 955 solar last week and my numbers look similar to yours, in the low 30's every night. I keep reading that anything under 50 is a serious health concern. I am a reasonably fit runner (VO2 max 57 according to Garmin) so I don't think I have heart issues and feel like something has to be wrong with the readings... hopefully. Have you looked into this at all?
I would really love to know how if the solar watch will stay powered indefinitely, when constantly worn outside. Because as someone who goes on long hikes regularly, that would be a real reason to go for the solar version.
The solar is meant to prolong battery life but it won’t stay powered indefinitely on this model. In theory, the Instinct 2 can be powered indefinitely though.
Can someone tell me whats wrong please. I wore my fr 955 last week and did a 16km run. Then yesterday i did a 12km run, and right after that the watch said ""this is your longest run."" Even though its saved last weeks 16km run and all.. Anyone know why it did that ???

I wish they had some specific dirt biking data I could utilize.
@desfit or anyone who might know the answer to this. Can i play music from my spotify on my phone, and will i be able to change tracks using my watch? Or do i have to download spotify to my watch to listen to music? Hopefully this makes sense.
Great job!is it adjustable except triathlon also for example swim-run or whatever multisport i want to do,or is just for triathlon?
I have question i need monitory body thinks like spo2. pulse, sleep, strees and using to simple run and make HIT trening and infrmation about rest. What version of this smartwatch is best for amatoure?
I need music without phone i think.
Great video. I heard you say Cadence for Cycling. These both do it for running as well?
Thanks! Cadence is available for running on the watch itself without the need for any additional sensor but cadence for cycling will need a cadence sensor or a crank/pedal power meter.
@@DesFit Thanks so much. I'm looking at the 955 for running and also for Spartan races. Do you think the 955 will hold up getting a little muddy?
I have the brightness set to 20% and the screen looks so washed out and faded. Is this normal?
Great video! Do you know more about when the 945 LTE will receive this feature update, and which features it is? I’m torn between getting the 945 LTE or the 955.
Hey thanks for the review! with the HRV do you know how long the watch scans for data whilst you sleep?
@DesFit Thanks for this review! It’s so jam packed with info and very helpful. Between the 255 and 955. Do you think it’s worth paying more for the 955 for the extra features? Also, which do you prefer between the two?
Maps and navigation are probably the biggest differences between the two along with training readiness.
You can't tell this from the video; they look the same. Check DCRainmaker's post
Yep the screen looked way less bright, which is pretty bad honestly.
Maybe because it was the Solar model ? Would love to know
Because of the touch layer.
If I have a budget of 500€/550€ what should I do? Buying the 255 and a HRM or just buying the 955?
Can you also add music to either of the 955 models?
Yes, all have music storage and playback capabilities
Another difference is that the auto detect for cycling ftp doesn’t work on the Garmin 255
So just to be clear, for additional running metrics we need to pair 255 with a pod & the 955 with HRM pro ? Can HRM pro with 255 give same results ?
Thanks for the video. Question - I already have the 245, is it worth the upgrade to the 255s?
sir garmin 255 or garmin 945 ,who better? plss see my comment 😢😢
Hey Dez
Any chance of doing reviews with people with sleeve tattoos and smart watches / gps watches ? They seem to not work well with tattoos
That’s the case for nearly all optical HR sensors with tattoos unfortunately. Just the nature of the technology.

Can we get Venu2 plus vs Forerunner 255 video? Kinda confused between the two
Very good video, only have 2 questions:
1. Does 955 has Grade-adjusted pace function?
2. Is there is an option, on 955, to cancel touch screen?
Thanks in advance!!!
No grade adjusted pace with the latest round of updates and unsure if that will be included down the road but yes, you can disable the touchscreen. Thanks!
Do a comp. 255 vs 945 LTE please
Can not believe there is not a video between 955 vs 945lte 😠 😂
But I’m on the fence of one of the other, I have the fenix 7s, it’s just a little heavier then I like
255: Only GPS gives 36 hours, All system 8 Hours. what about automatic navigation selection? how long does it lasts?
Thanks for the great comparison! A couple questions (apologies if I missed these)
You mentioned they can receive data from a HR sensor, but can they project the data from the built in HR sensor as well? I use a garmin bike computer, could I lose the HR strap if wearing these?
Do they support voice control (Siri commands)?
It's called broadcast HR and given your use case, yes you could use a watch for HR but chest strap accuracy will always be higher.
No voice functionality
What is the difference between Body Battery and Training Readiness? They seem to serve the same function!
Interesting that Polar Pacer Pro gets you 35 hours of GPS (comparable to 255), but only 7 days in smartwatch mode. Wonder where it looses all the energy? Screen? Tracking (leds)?
Will Garmin show some love to the 945 by bringing some of these features to it in a future software update?
With it being a watch from 2019 with sensors that are much older? Highly, highly unlikely.
Only to the LTE version.
I noticed your HRV numbers were very low. Were you sleeping with the watches on every night? I just purchased a 955 solar last week and my numbers look similar to yours, in the low 30's every night. I keep reading that anything under 50 is a serious health concern. I am a reasonably fit runner (VO2 max 57 according to Garmin) so I don't think I have heart issues and feel like something has to be wrong with the readings... hopefully.
Have you looked into this at all?
does FR 955 have badminton mode?
Can you compare the fenix 7x solar and the 955 solar
I would really love to know how if the solar watch will stay powered indefinitely, when constantly worn outside. Because as someone who goes on long hikes regularly, that would be a real reason to go for the solar version.
The solar is meant to prolong battery life but it won’t stay powered indefinitely on this model. In theory, the Instinct 2 can be powered indefinitely though.
Can someone tell me whats wrong please.
I wore my fr 955 last week and did a 16km run.
Then yesterday i did a 12km run, and right after that the watch said ""this is your longest run.""
Even though its saved last weeks 16km run and all..
Anyone know why it did that ???
