    Hey Coach Shepherd, just want to first say thank you for all of your content. It's been really helpful for me as a college jumper.
    Regarding the drop leg, is the benefit in giving your free leg more arch to swing into the step and then lengthen the step? I don't really understand how your placement of the foot in midair can increase the distance of the hop like you mentioned in the video.

      It opens out the hop by countering potential rotation across the body like the hitch-kick for long jump. And it can help get more extension from the hop leg into the step.

    I need help with my step phase every time i jump when I land I seem to collapse but when i get it more infront I dont have enough power to jump and its more like just a foward step

    John im 14 years old and i have meet
    today and when i land on my long jump and i stand i accidently anckle spring i spend over 2 months for training triple and im just gana lose it bacause i have spring anckle😥

    I have a strange issue where my foot lands inward on my step landing, it makes it harder for me to transition into my jump phase and it also can cause an injury. I have tried to fix it many ways but cant find anything that works.

      Ayden, try doing lots of skipping drills where you really focus on the foot position. Keep the toes up and lead into the ground with the heel. You could even do this at walking pace to train the strike position.
      Also take a look at your hip and knee positions to see whether they are creating the rotation rather than the foot.
