I grew up in the middle of nowhere. For a week or so, my road was closed for construction.
When construction finished, they just left the road barriers stacked in the ditch.
Me and the few local kids sat the barriers back up and had the road to ourselves for another few days

I once used to get into playful arguments with friends about whether chess was a sport. One person argued that it wasn’t because you can’t play it drunk. Another argued it wasn’t because it was something you play in a pub.

Here we had Barcode. A chocmilk carton was basically used as a dice. If it landed barcode up, the last person it touched received a free punch from those playing. This rapidly devolved into entire schoolyards beating the absolute crap out of a mark who happened to be nearby. It started as a form of hackey sack, but rapidly became mob violence.

Marble Fighting. We used to create intricate mazes with mud that was allowed to dry and it was a mix of golf and flippos. We needed to "colonize the hueca". First marble to make it to the hole in the hill or valley at the end woudl win. But these weren´t automatic races, we instead had to punt them across the school yard, dodging running toddlers, avoiding grass traps and making it through the obstacle mazes earning points after each capture. Each kid had their own technique. Some used their thumbs, some used a mix of their middle finger, index and annular as a launch cradle. We also had tournaments where the winner could take one of the marbles from each of the losers. We had our favorite marbles of course. Some were particularly big, we never learned why. Called "peponas" those were used for dislodging and disturbing the opponents marbles to make their next shot harder. We had the "careys" elegant marbles of white glass with matte designs in primary colors, those were usually reserved for the final shot. In some instances, especially when you were playing friendly mode using only your marbles cause a friend forgot to bring theirs, we would implement zombie mode. In that instance we´d throw marbles in the air so they would form a unique pattern and we´d set a line quite a few meters away from where we´d aim. The idea was to kill all the zombies (regular green stained glass marbles) and avoid disturbing the uninfected (Careys). Each time you knocked a zombie out you´d walk up and grab it, like capturing a bishop in chess. And if you´re wondering what role did the Peponas play in this Zombie madness, now you know where Bloaters came from.

When we were kids me and my cousins had a game called “tramp scoot” the way it worked was we took the wheels off a razor scooter and gaffa taped bags around the forks so that they wouldn’t tear the trampoline. Then we took to the trampoline and did tricks like tail whips until we smacked our shins, whoever smacked their shins least won.
One summer we invented the sequel to tramp scoot which became known as “ice bounce” it was the exact same game except the trampoline had toy trucks on it that we filled with ice cubes. The idea being that after a few bounces there would be ice everywhere and random flying trucks coming to knock you off the scooter.
Very smart game… took a lot of brain power…

One night, after finishing our league games, we continued drinking and playing darts. My friend talked me into going to another bar, where some A-league players were finishing their matches, and he talked a couple of them into a game for money. We were very drunk, but my friend had gotten to the point where he could barely hit the board...but I was having the game of my life--I held our side up and won the game. One of the other players threw his money on the table and complained that I wasn't capable of playing that well and stomped off. So sweet. My problem, the reason I wasn't playing A-league, was that I was never consistent. I beat the best player in our league, twice, but only individual games...after I won a game, it pissed him off, and he made sure I didn't win a second one. This happened twice...and I'm pretty sure I'm just about the only person to do even that well against him. Sadly, I've mislaid my darts...but I've become disabled, too, so I can't stand well enough to throw anymore.

I have always said the difference between sport and game is not difficulty or the skill required, but rather one basic condition of the activity: If you can eat and drink normal food during play, it is a game. If you cannot, it is a sport. Cycling is an edge case, but note that in long races, the riders basically all relax and slow down whilst everyone eats from their lunch bags, and then the pace picks up again.
That doesn't mean 'games are lesser than sports, in all honestly they have more relevance to normal people than sports ever will, but there is a decided difference. games are inherently social activities, sports are social activities only for the spectators. the food aspect is part of why.

In total, my score keeping app told me I played 170km of course length last year. That usually being in wooded/rocky terrain with a 12kg backpack, and imo that's a fair bit of exercise. If anyone was interested in knowing how a bowler gets his ball to spin the much i can try to eksplain it abit. First of the core in the balls are slightly lopsidet, Seconly the way the holes in the balls are drillet is so you only haf the outer joint of the fingers inside the holds on your ring and middle finger so when you follow your arm tru as you lets go off the ball you gives it a ton of momentem to the side. If you are right handet the momentem is twords the left, and if you are left handet the moment to twords the right. The reson why you only realy see the ball hook to the side at the ends of the bowling lane is becus the is a oil on the first 3/4 of it, so the ball cant get a good grip on the first part of the lane, Think of it as if a car is driveing on ice and then gets to a arear whit no ice, it wil haf alot easyer to get a grip on the roodeway. And i know this becus i haf bin playing bowling for 20+ years

Jocky Wilson, in case people want to know how it's spelled to _immediately_ starting looking up videos on this deific champion of the human condition. I lament the days I wasted not knowing about him.

Yet another video on youtube about darts that doesn't go into the skills that these men and women have but instead "This guy was a world champion dart player but, let's not talk about that let's focus on his drinking instead" Not surprised tbh.
