This was an incredible amount of info and very eye opening!
It makes it feel very special and how great it must’ve been for Kubo-sensei to finally be able to deliver on everything he didn’t have the chance to the first time around.
I agree, both versions are canon and one compliments the other.
It’s all going to progress the same way, it’s just that the anime adds a lot more flavor at certain parts

This is legit the first time kubo is happy about the anime adaptation, Abe messed up big time for the original anime in the past and kubo criticised him alot(well deserved)
But taguchi understands everything kubo wants, and to top it off taguchi is confirmed to be a straight up fanboy of bleach like all of us, heck he even wants the bleach tybw anime to surpass the manga, that's an insane amount of dedication and passion this guy has,
If bleach gets a remake and gets the tybw anime adaptation treatment, that's gonna be pure insanity 😂😂

Taguchi is like the bleach version of Dave Filoni. Someone who knows the material and respects the ideas of the Creator. Working with him to make the pages come to life and more in depth

I don't think I've ever seen the original author work so closely with the anime staff.
Isayama did with the attack on titan staff. He basicly used the anime adaption to change and rewrite some things he didn't like in the manga and he always said he was inexpierenced back then and the anime basicly became his definite version.
@@HonkaiHistory Oh, I can totally see that, especially in the ending with the "I don't want her to get over me/We're both going to hell" scene. Just a little retouch, but it worked wonders.

I really do love how they use color in the TYBW anime, it really adds a whole new level of visual storytelling to the adaptation.
It is great to hear that Kubo is so happy with this new series!
It’s very interesting - the true nature of the Irazu Sandō is very similar to the words Zangetsu shared with Ichigo during their training with Kisuke: “Move forward and never stop. Retreat and you will age. Hesitate and you will die.”
Considering that the path will literally decay you if you leave it, but you are constantly being pushed off it, meaning that hesitation or retreat will lead to your death. Moving forward without looking back (or down 😅) is the only way to survive.
Is there a true connection? Or is it just a coincidence? Or perhaps the very nature of being a guardian/protector is what Zangetsu was sharing with Ichigo and it just so happens that Ichibe creates a place that is the physical manifestation of that concept - what it means to be a protector. Since a Soul King candidate would have to be the ultimate protector.

Soul king was very similar to ichigo. So he is being told to follow his path.
The "Punishment" aspect of Rukia has always been present with the character. She has always been a target either by herself or from others. Rukia feeling guilt for "killing" Kaien, Rukia cursing Ichigo with power at such a young age and also commiting taboo against the Soul Society's laws. Rukia being a vessel of the Hogyoku and unintentionally helping Aizen cause problems for Soul Society. Rukia has always probably felt guilty about several actions of hers or situations she's been in. A Bankai is a true manifestation of one's soul and character, so, it makes sense that Rukia would be full of insecurities and self targeted "punishment". This is probably temporary and her Bankai will evolve in the future letting her be more mobile.
Specifically mentioning that only Senjumaru can exit her Bankai makes me even more certain that Uryu will use Antithesis to escape
I suppose overall Rukia has had a theme of guilt and reflection throughout the series. From early on chronologically; “killing” Kaien, to failing to protect Ichigo and his family, to Ichigo nearly being killed by Byakuya first time, to accepting her death. Even after the Soul Society arc, Rukia is usually fairly tough on herself and it could be that a part of her soul feels the need to punish herself for not meeting the standards she sets in her mind.
This makes total sense. Since another focal point of her guilt is centered around believing she will never be good enough in the eyes of her brother Byakuya, it is very endearing to see that he of all shinigamis witnessed her bankai for the first time and not only accepted it for what it is, but even actually compliments it in some way.
I am sure that if her bankai were to be somehow achieved way earlier in the story and Byakuya had witnessed it, he would have probably heavily criticized it for being unwieldy and weak because of the self-sabotaging aspect, just like how he criticized Ichigo’s bankai for being just a plain black sword with no extra features. But now, he has fortunately matured as a person and viewed his sisters bankai at the right time in the story.
@@mineapple6726 I think the compliment from Byakuya, and her eventually appointment to Captain, are going to be key to her eventually "controlling" her bankai and moving past the heavy self sabotaging she does. She's always, even from a young age, been like that. So that definitely plays another part in the story. She went from viewing herself as a burden on the Kuchiki family, to the second Kuchiki captain in the same generation and Byakuya's equal.
This is how anime adaptations of manga should be made. Where manga artist and animation team are working hand in hand, considering eachother a part of one team. Thats why this anime is so amazing, and it shows. I personally am waiting until its finished to pick the anime back up (I only watched half of the first part of TYBW), and It makes me so happy to hear how amazing it is from everyone who talks about it.
That isn't always possible though. Most Mangaka are way too busy to be able to be hand in hand with the animation team. We are just lucky here as Kubo has the time at the moment.

@@D-Havoc I realize that but again, that isn't possible for every anime adaptation. Anime is made mainly to advertise and boost sales of the source material. If a manga is completed then it has little chance at getting an adaptation for that reason.

isn't Komomura's Bankai "Divine Heavenly Punishment"? and the "punishment" being that he takes all the damage? Rukia takes damage from her Bankai too, so maybe that's all that "punishment" refers to, the Bankai damages the user
The trade off for Komamura taking damage is that Tengen can suffer no permanent damage and be weakened as a result. It heals as Komamura does. It doesn't "punish" Komamura upon activation, or threaten death with a single misuse.
There are negative effects for using bankai when not fully ready or trained. Komamura just has a really strong bond with his zanpakuto.

You made an interesting point from 16:40-17:10 about Ichigo’s training vs white tensa being the same as “the blade is me”.
I wonder if dangai Ichigo would be relative to his true shikai form. I’ve always found it crazy that alien Aizen (who was literally transcendent) couldn’t sense his dangai form, yet the bambies and soul society (chapter 581 or 582) could sense his true shikai form🧐. Excited for more videos

In my opinion, Dangai ichigo learnt to hide his energy within himself from the fierce training with Zangetsu and lad Yhwach, not letting anyone sense his energy, so lord aizen sama couldn't even sense him, but while entering ss from royal palace he wasn't hiding his spiritual energy so everyone noticed it, nevertheless the spiritual energy was so mass the captains and other soul reapers could easily gasp it was ichigoat falling, where it took him to unleash his fake bankai to give such a mass energy, it was just his normal form after the training in royal palace.
Ichigo's dangai form in my opinion is on par with Old man Yama, or perhaps not, but mugetsu ichigo would definitely beat Yama ji!
Also Yhwach gave compliment to ichigo saying, his true sikai is on the same level of the power he once used and lost, obviously it has to be mugetsu, we haven't seen him fight anyone other than Yhwach onward, to actually know how power his true sikai is - we need another Aizen vs Ichigo.

It sounds like a different member of Squad Zero would be "unleashed" depending on the opponent. In Senjumaru's case, 2-1,000 strong enemies is where she shines. Maybe if it were a 1v1 match determined by raw power Oetsu would be chosen. I can see Tenjiro being able to send biblical amounts of water onto an absolutely massive army or fortress, and on the off chance Squad Zero must rely on someone else to win, Hikifune may be chosen as a bottomless well of energy to support another.
The details about Kubo being excited and really taking an interest is great. I love hearing that he nerded out on his story because the team wanted to portray it correctly.
Hearing Kubo is so involved and adding previously thought of yet unreleased lore is legitimately so wholesome. This man may not be able to do a weekly or even monthly chapters anymore, but he's still cooking up ideas to make his final full arc the best it can be.

I find it very interesting that it seems that the animation team actually knows the Bankais of all of the Royal Guards, wonder if that maybe that means we might find out what they are someday or if they might just wind up being revealed later in the anime at some point, somehow.

Well Soul Society is literally about her being put to death for her crimes as a soul reaper. It was a corrupted judicial system that sentenced her but it’s still a prominent piece of her history.
Interesting... In talking about a punishing bankai as in some of the comments, ... Rukia has always felt guilty about Kaien and maybe it made its way into her soul for her Bankai. At the same time she had worked through her guilt already so maybe it's less punishing than it otherwise would be
In Cour 3 trailer, we see Uryu shoot an arrow in Senjumaru's bankai realm.
Perhaps he's aiming at the real Senjumaru outside of the Bankai.
This is really good stuff. I thought they made a lot of great calls with the changes for Cour 2.

As for Uryu, the antithesis as sewing needle may be applied here
I will point out she moves a bit in bankai, she moves the sword so it it pointing forward after the pillar forms and then moves into the stance she ends it in, So I think it is probably a bit like how she freezes herself, also sort of like the third dance when she was staring to do that she froze her hand first (also moves her body a bit as she starts to undo it)
since when she enters bankai sword is at her side with her body twisted, we see her raise it forward and up so she had to move it down and then back up to unleash the second dance like blast and then she moves it down to end in that frozen stance
sort of like a combo of all three dances at once(most likely as she gets better with it she will be able to move more and longer and return to normal faster safely but she is still working on that), like first the pillar of cold air that forms the disk like the first dance where she makes a circle with her sword and all in that freeze(even her if she remains in it), then the blast of cold air forward like the white ripple and then she starts to freeze things around her like after sh e used the third dance most of the room and some of her froze over)
might be her might not since could be another cloth clone of her aka she basically set up a separate fake battlefield for each member( sort of like Yukio and his chat rooms where he could alter the rules for each without effecting the others like how chad got a separate harder section than Ichigo), she really is fighting just like she did to start when they showed to the royal palace(like how she was outside the area fake palace she weaved together and trapped them in)
this makes me wonder as well if the Getsuga clashing with the enemy in the centre and the whole storing getsuga in your body and sword to enhance cutting have names of their own

Its really great to hear the anime team is so in line with Kubo. I love that they're even coming to some of the same conclusions when it comes to new scenes, like showing Senjunaru's bankai. That, to me, just means the rest of the anime series is just going to get better and better
Paused it at 15:02, where it's close up on the Soul King's eye - it's not exact, but I'm only now realizing it looks a lot like the Gotei 13's symbol. Is it possible that the symbol is derived from it (in-story) in some way?

Him working so closely with the anime that he can make the changes he wants and having a team that gets what he is going for is amazing
Getsuga Juujishou felt like indirectly avenging Yamamoto...like Ichigo was incorporating it into his role as Soul Society's (and the worlds') protector
Just like with the One Piece Live Action, working together with the author to translate ideas into a new medium and even add new ones works wonders and creates a product full of love and respect for the source material.
And about the red sky, I never really minded it. It reminds me of the how the sky would turn pink-ish red during fights in Shaman King 2001 or how the colors would take a...foggy (?) sort of vibe in the original Bleach anime, during the Agent of the Shinigami arc. It gives an otherwordly feel to the battles, like they're going to take place in this mystical dome and only the best can see beyond it.

Finally someone who said that Anime and wmanga are both canon and meant to complement each other!
Bleach is not your
one man hero getting stronger through anger or immense training in a random space, and then defeating the enemy type anime.
Nor meditate,learn new skill and defeat the enemy with it type either.
There's so much detail and meaning behind all aspects of each and every little scene. There's so much foreshadows, both subtle and obvious, either of which makes the audience go "wow" when they are answered.
That is why the series is awesome, yet also have a pretty good number of haters because those haters don't have the attention span, nor patients, nor memory span to sit through all of it.
Oh nor do they have the annalitic skills to pick up on the answer even when answered.
We are in very good hands with taguchi on board.

Based off that Rukia answer, something tells me she may have stages to her Bankai. In order to unlock its full power she has to first undergo a punishment.
I think the punishment part was referencing her, at this point, resolved, guilt for Kaien. Maybe a way of saying while she's able to move on with carrying the heart Kaien and her formed, there's still pain that doesn't stop hurting.
Also I'm thinking the Sukishido of her Bankai might be horizontal. If we go with it piercing from both end of the sword, I think that better explains why As Nodt's top half of his head is gone before his body crumbles.

RE Brave Souls and Hakka no Togame, the difference is likely the dances.
If what we see from a fledgeling Bankai is Tsukishiro, then what we see in Brave Souls is likely the third dance Shirafune.
Interesting information. Here are my thoughts:
33:07 Why not from the "seat of souls" part? Center cest. The one that Byakuya took out in Ichigo, to remove his stolen powers? The part where the hollow chain/hole grows from? The one ichigo was pierced to gain his powers and later restore them. That could also be her "center".
Either way, she is definitely hit by the bankai as well. Frozen from head to toe, and stuck to the ground. Unable to move until she can thaw out.
As for Brave souls: Gameplay trumps lore. A "win or suck" bankai does not make a good gameplay mechanic. But it is also possible she overcame part of the downside. I mean she can move despite freezing herself to absolute 0 in Shikai. Doing the same in Bankai seems like a sensible evolution.

A enclosed space where she has complete control, even while being outside. But the fake palace had one shared reality, as opposed to a individual reality for each.
Both seem perfectly able to contain X-Axis shots too. Which is otherwise a force of absolute destruction.
40:04 After Uryu escpes, she has to go inside to prevent him from freeing others.
Or it is just the usual part where the trailers/intro are missleading. The Soul Society arc intros were full of fights that never happened. You can _never_ trust the intro sequence when it shows fights.
Was Kubo trying to say that Jugram's position in the meeting was conveying to the audience that he was just as powerful as Yamamoto if not more?
It's meant to establish his commanding presence and authority as Sternritter Grandmaster. He is in a position of leadership; and the anime wants to assert the seriousness of the role.

it never occurred me til now but Getsuga Jujisho being a cross is a nod to Ichigo's quincy side as well
It might be a reach but perhaps the red color relates to the color of Shinigami soul sleeve.
And calling Rukia's bankai a "punishment" of sorts might hint that it's a cold Naraka-theme bankai.

You think that to become a zero division member you need to pass through the irazusando?(spelt it wrong prolly) it’d fill in the gap that it wasn’t jus for Ichigo, and would also explain their insane, transcendent power, as well as why there are so few members.

34:16 Rukias whole arc is a struggle with feeling good enough and choosing what SHE wants vs what everybody else expects from her.
She killed Kaien, Byakuya shunned her and she lost her childhood friend.
It makes sense that her Bankai (true self) punishes her for doing what SHE wants to do.
Idk how canon this is supposed to be, but I just wish they had the getsuga jujishou be a mixture of black (and red) with white (and blue). I think the start contrast shows off ichigo's multiple powers better.
I think the red of the shinigami symbolizes blood or the sinful nature of being a soul reaper. Because it ends up being stolen and taken over by the quincies. The winning hand, the thirst of bloodshed, it is all taken by the quincies and was used against them.
Although I do say, I really love the idea of how the shinigami's pride has been sent up since Ichigo came from the sky as their hope.

Honestly, I think the "punishment" part of her Bankai is that of her self image. She has extreme guilt over Kaien, guilt over Ichigo (claimed in the Soul Society arc, with her talks with Hanataro and other lines) and I'm sure she has other things she self persecutes over.
Self persecution is a major part of her character story, and Byakuya giving her acknowledgment could answer the "able to move with her Bankai in the game version" dilemma because his acknowledgment "rescues" her from herself, liberating her.
Agreed. Even before Kaien, Rukia never felt worthy of being a Kuchiki, but accepted her treatment without complaint. She has always believed that she's inherently worthy of being punished, even killed. Even if that's not objectively, true self-hate is quite powerful. I think she took her first proper step towards Bankai after she killed Aaroniero. She didn't want to die alone, she wanted to save Orihime and so _she froze herself._ She self--targets her freezing powers and appears to be dead without truly dying, "new" principles of Sode no Shirayuki that she reveals to Äs Nödt, and so it makes sense that her Bankai leverages those to their extreme. She can "punish and kill" herself while also enhancing her ability to take lives and help others.
Definitely agree with you that Byakuya's words probably lead to her losing the movement restriction. After all, she could have died there right next to Byakuya, who would have carried on her heart, but she unfroze herself properly and gave her the care and warmth she'd been denied for so long. That plus a lot of training, natch.
I don't understand uryu's significance in surviving yuha taking away the Quincy powers back when his mother lost hers. What does that mean?
I always like to bring up the fact that the two shinigami closest to Ichigo-Rukia and Renji-both have bankai that change their appearance, just like Ichigo's. He's rubbed off on their very souls :)

Senjumaru's Bankai is the perfect situation for Kubo, he gets to draw cool sh*t and there is a team of people to make it make sens storywise. He once said in an interview that thinking about the story etc. is his least favourite part of the job and he just wants to draw cool stuff. Makes me wish that the manga industry would adopt a western model for their comics production, where there are separate people for story and art, not only one overworked, underpaid mangaka who burns out half-way through the series.
Interesting move to make Haschwalth seem like Yama or Aizen's equal. Obviously this would help raise the stakes, as if Yhwach is on a completely different level than all of them. That alone is arguable, but it make me wonder if a claim like "Haschwalth is Aizen-tier" has any real teeth to it.
CGI objects/creatures can be very distracting and off-putting in anime(Season 2 colossal titan), but I think CGI is used well in tybw. It never feels out of place and they blended it into the 2d animation pretty seamlessly.

@@TheGreatJinxhonestly, best thing to do is ignore people like that. You’re never going to win with them, they’re way too caught up in their own ignorance. Most of them see CGI and go “ugh, gross, CGI bad/lazy” but they don’t get what goes into making the “good” animation work. Everything, even CGI takes time to do, it’s not lazy or cutting corners for an animation studio to use CGI in their projects.

With regards to the revamped God Like You, while I think the team did a good job conveying Ywach's genesis to those of us who read the manga, I feel for anime-onlies, there's way too much room for misinformation, and some of the cut content needs to be reiterated later on. That's also my general issue with show, don't tell. If you want people to take a certain message away, what do you show, and how much do you tell?

I like how in the Yhwach birth scene the hands all have holes on them, it makes me think about Jesus hands after crucifixion, perhaps that was the point, given that Yhwach is supposed to be a Jesus like figure. Kind of neat if that's the case.

Imo taguchi as director has been doing a very good job adapting the source material only thing i found myself dislikikg is certain choices in music or lack thereof in certain scenes (when gremmy starts going gunkai)
That choice was more so down to episode director really.

What if it isn't Rukia per say who's getting punished but the Zanpakuto spirit? Like in the same way Katen Kyokotsu makes Shunsui play the *role* of the wife and the enemy the husband. Perhaps there's a story involving a great guilt and or punishment that is the whole backlore reason for it. Then the Brave Souls version could be as said when she has mastered Bankai and Sode no Shirayuki is absolved of her crime, falsely accused or otherwise, and or guilt giving Rukia freedom of movement.
It's interesting Senjumaru wasn't chosen due to her being the least shown in the source material - that's what I thought at least, though Kubo said he'd choose her too so I still wonder if that's his reason at least.

I like the emphasis on showing" instead of telling such as with the Yhwach Haschwalth switch. Showing is always better than telling and that is a major area for improvement going forward

The anime definitely complements the manga very well, I loved it sooo much when they showed us the part when Oetsu gets donuted, but they expanded apon it, allowing the anime to not contradict the manga which was perfect in my opinion

I am not sure how to feel about this reveal of Hakka no Togame's nature. That Rukia is "punished" for using her Bankai, enforcing that the danger it poses to Rukia isn't a matter of inexperience, or the newness of the Bankai, but is inherent to it.
How do you "master" a power like that? It also enforces that the Bankai is a one-shot deal, and it may as well make her appearance purely aesthetic.
There is also, to my knowledge, no other character with an ability like this in the entirety of Bleach. Kokujo Tengen Myo has been brought up, as damage dealt to it affects Komamura, but the trade-off is the Bankai heals as Komamura does, so it can never be permanently weakened through damage.
It appears to be the only power that "punishes" and threatens death to the user just through using it, and is very likely something she could only ever use when at full health. Suffering any injury prior would probably make her either incapable of using it without being killed by her own power.
I always thought the red sky looked cool, but would've looked better as a sky the color of Quincy Reiatsu.
I hope they've changed ichigo bankai😢😢😢
