You're welcome! I'm sorry this video's stabilization wasn't so sturdy. Even with my stabilizer, it's still swinging all over the place. I've just been very rusty... haven't made a walking video in a long time. Had to get used to holding the stabilizer all over again. ^^
This sixty-six y.o. Vietnam vet enjoyed your walking tour of Hoang Hoa Tham Street very much. I have been watching the really nice railfan videos of Red Ningbo Man, featuring activities on the VNR. Now I have something else nice to enjoy. I have viewed three of your videos so far, and plan to watch the rest of them soon. I think what you are doing is very special. Keep up the good work & good luck to you!
Thanks Robert! Thank you for your service in the military! I appreciate your words, they mean a lot of me, really. Stay tuned for many more videos from wonderful Vietnam. ^^
There's 1 moped for every person living in Hanoi. Not so many cars. Motorbikes are the vehicle of choice in all of Vietnam, soooooo many everywhere. I've seen grandmas and even some young kids riding around on motorbikes.
Cory the difference in the tree lined streets is amazing ! feels cooler even on video lol . Thank you lovely walk along the road and interesting to see all the different shop :) Take care .
The thing about traffic in Vietnam is that it actually moves. Back in the US, bumper to bumper stop and go traffic is the worse!!! Here, everyone is moving, so there's never any stop and go type of traffic, at least from what I've seen.
That's cool how you really try to learn about your neighborhood/city Cory. Sorry if you had already touched on this but I think you would really enjoy getting a scooter. I know many out there will say you shouldn't but having lived there for 10 years and ridden one all those years, you really get to see and enjoy it so much more. Think about it, 10 years from now, the memories of riding a scooter amongst a stream of people in Hanoi!
Thanks Minh! I will eventually get a moped/scooter. I rented one for a month, but I only used it twice. So it was a waste of money for me, right now. But I know that later on, I will want to take some road trips outside of Hanoi and I'll need a decent motorbike. Right now, I just use Uber/Grab motorbikes and I still have a lot of fun enjoying the ride and scenery, and the bonus is I don't have to worry about driving. hehe
There's soooo many streets here. hehehe I've only seen probably 25% of Hanoi. I really want to get out there more often, but the rainy season makes it difficult. Can't wait for when it'll be easier to walk around a lot and not get soaking wet all the time.
Love the walking videos. A people watching video would be good. One of those crazy intersections would be very interesting to watch. Or maybe a video of the night life.
Yeah! There's some interesting areas of Hanoi to capture youth culture, and family life, and stuff like that. It'll take time but I'm hoping to capture some of that for you guys!
Hi Cory, I'm a brand new subscriber from Brisbane Australia and am fascinated by exotic travel / lifestyle videos, so pretty stoked that I found your channel as I love the Walking videos because as a viewer it gives me an insight or brief look into the daily life of that particular area. So just wanted to say hi, thanks for sharing your experiences and it looks like I have a few videos to catch up on ;)
Hey Tommy, thanks for this awesome comment! I hope you enjoy the entire SEOUL WALK playlist, and my new videos from Vietnam. Ask many questions because even on older videos I still get the notification and will reply back. ^^ Cheers!
Yes, but also no. The government, from what I've read, will tax foreigners heavily for trying to export Vietnamese goods. I read that they only want Vietnamese companies or businesses exporting Vietnamese goods. They had this happen to them during the French Occupation where the French were exporting Vietnamese goods and keeping all the money for themselves. (This is only what I read, not sure how true it all is.) So now it's almost illegal for foreigners to do so these days.
This is really fascinating, I am stuck at home watching your videos back to back, thinking of visiting this town next year and how the hell one practices crossing the street without getting themselves killed.
Thanks for binging my videos, Pavel. Ask me any questions, any time. You can also do the same thing on my Facebook page or Instagram (@FeedTheCory)... just throwing that out there. lol Don't worry too much about the crossing the street thing in Vietnam, it's super easy. ^^
Seems dangerous, but it's super easy once you get the feel for it. The nice thing is that most people are going so slow. There's always time to stop or veer out of the way.
I can't believe how many motor bikes are running around all the time. I don't think I could handle that. I live in Canada in a smallish town near Vancouver BC. The pace is a bit slower LOL It's interesting to see how other people in the world live. Keep up the good work on your vlog! :)
It's a totally different place from Western countries. You get used to it after some time, but that's part of the fun of traveling, being put into new situations with new environments to experience. ^^ Thanks for leaving a comment George!
I am late to the party but I wanted to express my sympathies and congratulations on the recent changes you have gone through. I am just loving Vietnam! It is amazingly exotic and so different from South Korea. We look forward to all your new adventures and wish you nothing but happiness and peace. Two big thumbs up from us.
wow u are rather close to me , i live near Bach Thao park , if u put in some extra paces , u could get to West lake on Thanh Nien st , the place is super breezy and hotspot for couples
Actually, no. Hanoi is in northern Vietnam, and it gets cool in the winter here. Many Vietnamese will wear autumn jackets and stuff during the winter. But it doesn't get cold enough to snow... only in the highlands and mountains, like Sa Pa area, sometimes it snows there.
The heat is actually not bad at all, it's the humidity. Now that I've been here for 1 month, the humidity is actually not that bad. It fluctuates. Showers one or two times a day are necessary. hehehe ^^
Was about to say. If you have ever been to the middle east you would think the heat kills you initially, however once you actually visit the middle east, you will find the heat and the sun much easier bareble. That is because the middle east has practically no humidity, whilst Vietnam... yeah different story. 25 degrees celcius can easily feel like 35 degrees celcius or even worse when the humidity is high enough. It might be interesting to also note that the temperature in actual rainforests rarely goes above 30C°, however due to the high humidity even 25C° will feel like hell on earth in a rainforest. Speaking of which.... 30C° in germany tend to be absolute hell.... Because usually our humidty is 60% minimum or above... Making it hardly bareble. @Cory that is because indo-china and asia in general tend to have only 2 seasons: Dry and rain season. The rain season brings both, heat and excessive rain and humidity. The rain season should soon be over in asia(currently moving towards its end), hence the weather will become much better now(i.e. less heat and also less humidity). Wait for next spring and summer when the humidity and heat come back at full capacity again : P Then you will notice again just how bad a rain season in tropical asia can feel xD
+Phuong Tran Hello Phuong, thanks for leaving a nice comment! Yes, I rented a motorbike for 1 month when I first moved to Ha Noi, but it rained sooooo much everyday that I couldn't freely ride everyday. I need practice. I'm sure in the future I'll get a motorbike and get used to riding in heavy Ha Noi traffic. ^^
Thanks! This video was filmed with a GoPro Hero 4 Black. Very out-dated. I wish I could afford to buy the new Hero 6 Black!!! T_T I have to buy so much new camera gear because much of what I have is now out-dated so badly.
If you're buying woodwork to bring back to the US, think twice. Unless you live in a very humid climate, the woodwork will crack because it's going from a humid climate to a dry climate. I bought an ornate box with chopsticks made out of wood. By the time it got back to California, the wood have already started cracking.

the comment on the birds hanging on wires an stuff, and the dog info..i saw that in the Philippines, and if the dogs were family pets they were just in cages next to the house, kinda sad cause, I saw a dog tied up with about foot and half of a leash...I wanted to go up there and give him more rope but, you got to make sure they don't have rabies.
Thank you for the honesty, I really appreciate your feedback. Can you explain what about the Vietnam videos you don't like? Is it just the content itself, that Vietnam is a country that doesn't interest you? Or are the videos themselves really boring, too long, or lacking in other ways? I'm always learning and growing, so all feedback and criticisms are totally welcome. ^^
Feed The Cory I think it depends on the person because I really enjoy them. Love how different it is from Korea. The food, the people around, the shops.. is nice. This one i like the most because all the green around.
Thanks. That is the big downside with walking videos, or bicycle ride videos, that I have made. There's so much to see, and it takes time to show that stuff, which can negatively impact a video because viewers just want the quick & dirty version, always swiping left, etc. But, that's the world I operate in for my videos. lol I appreciate the feedback, though! Have just seen you on Nguyễn Chí Thanh Street but couldn't say hi because of driving ^^ However, love your videos ^^
Vietnam has been a communist state since 1975. At that time, the country was still in 3rd world living conditions. It wasn't until the mid-1980's that the government started to introduce economic reform to try and boost the country into the world platform. In recent times, it has done so and now is a member of WTO and APEC. Vietnam feels like South Korea did back in the mid-1980's. It's just starting to grow into a more modernized country. I personally hope it doesn't become too modernized. I really enjoy the old rustic feelings of all the French colonial architecture. It's rough around the edges, and it really gives a nice character to the country. You'd be surprised at how many poor looking homes have a giant 4K TV on their living room wall. lol
Alex Kedavra Hanoi is strangely less developed than Saigon. Most restaurants do not have AC, automatic doors etc... but all of that changes when you go to Saigon. I love to visit Hanoi for the food but living wise, I would recommend Saigon even though it's more expensive.
Yeah, the noise pollution of Vietnam is a big problem. You get used to it and tune it out over time, but it's really not good. I wish I could live more in the countryside areas, less traffic, less honking... but there's always going to be honking.
Every time you walked out into the street I thought you were gonna get hit by a moped or something! 😩 Is it always that loud in the streets? I feel like I wouldn't get used to all the noise 😣
It's definitely an intimidating atmosphere to be in, but after just a little time, you really get used to it and go with the flow very easily. I think what makes it really safe is the fact that people are driving slow. Any moped or car can easily brake and veer around things or come to a complete stop without hitting anyone. The speed is the best factor to all this mess, it's the only way people can actually navigate in and out of one another. Like, a chaotic ballet but everyone is in full coordination with one another without a thought. ^^ Oh, and yeah... the noise. It's a noisy-ass city. For reals. But most cities in Southeast Asia are like this. Luckily, Hanoi shuts down around 10pm and is relatively chill until morning. It's such an interesting culture to experience!
Oh well that's good that they're driving slow! lol. I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy these videos! As I've mentioned before, I really wanna travel around the world in the future, and these videos make me feel like I'm right there with you in Vietnam! Please keep these types of videos coming!! 😄
Hey, let me tell you, If you just look at pictures or view from video, it is just one aspect. As Cory said, if you actually come there and actually experience, you will see that it is totally fine. It is not as bad as it looks anyway. By the way, I heard traffic jam in BangKok, Thailand is even worse. And Philippines is kind of the same as Hanoi, Vietnam.
I need to do that more, in vlog adventure videos. I know so many of you guys would love that. It's essentially where the hashtag #feedthecory came from, from all of you guys telling me in Livestreams to stop and eat. hahaha
Many people wear masks because of the air quality. So many motorcycle fumes and dust blown up in the air from traffic, plus lots of smog. Hanoi's air quality is pretty bad, similar to Seoul, Korea. The other reason is for sickness prevention. Usually if people are sick, they wear a mask so they don't spread germs, and the others wear masks cause they don't want to catch germs. This is also common in other Asian countries. Korea has turned masks into a fashion statement. You don't see that in Vietnam though.
I make many types of videos. Walking is just one of them. You should see my Seoul Walk playlist, there's over 50 walking videos in there. This is nothing new to my channel. ^^ Thanks for your feedback!

The furniture is beautiful. Those trees within tress unbelievable
I appreciate your videos of you walking around makes me feel like I'm there. Keep up the good work!

Love the noises of countries like Vietnam, with the tooting of horns and crazy bikers. Great video, enjoyed the walk.
Glad you enjoyed it! ^^
Thank you for great video. It's like organized chaos street traffic :)
Yes, it's the best way to describe traffic in Vietnam. ^^
Back alleys drive me crazzzy..I want more peeping into these quiet, mysterious yet intriguing alleys more, more and still more...loved the video....
hehehe Thanks for always supporting my types of videos! ^^
Amazing walk about video dude. Thanks.
This street is so nice. Love the plants. You sure have to be quick on your feet .
Hey man, thanks for posting these neat videos!
You're welcome! Thanks for enjoying them! ^^

😇😀 yay!!! another video My beautiful Vietnam country 💜💙
Woot woot! ^^
The wood was probably for aquascaping.
Yeah, that and landscape ornamentation in their gardens too. I'd love to start a little green corner in my apartment to grow some herbs and what not.
You should visit a temple! They're absolutely stunning :)
Yes, I definitely will! ^^
Great video! I subbed.
Thank you for becoming a subscriber!! ^^
The more I watched your vids, I see the resembling between you and Kim Yevato.
He is full Korean. I am half-Korean, half-white. Maybe you can see the Korean similarities? hehehe

that wood is called driftwood for aquariums. I'd like too see i one of the fish shop though. I'm a aquarium hobbyist hehe.

I'll check that place out sometime!
groovy

Why does this street (and the rest of Vietnam) look like it doesn't have as much tech?
You'd be surprised at how many poor looking homes have a giant 4K TV on their living room wall. lol

was that a church @5:30?
Looked like something related to Christianity. A church, an office, I have no idea. But definitely, it was religious.
5,658,000 Catholics in Vietnam
Did you find any barber shops where girls dress in mini-skirts to cut your hair like in saigon?
No, but that sounds very interesting! What's that place called?
they need to stop horn..... noisy.... all else are good
Lee Lee < you should come to northeast US.
that constant noise and honking gave me a headache. definitely hard to live in this kind of noise pollution.
Yeah, the noise pollution of Vietnam is a big problem. You get used to it and tune it out over time, but it's really not good.
I wish I could live more in the countryside areas, less traffic, less honking... but there's always going to be honking.
it is enjoyable but too much honking on the street. it tires my ears
Yeah, much of Vietnam and Thailand are like this. You get used to it and tune it out. But for first-time visitors, it can be overwhelming.
Every time you walked out into the street I thought you were gonna get hit by a moped or something! 😩
Is it always that loud in the streets? I feel like I wouldn't get used to all the noise 😣

Cory, you should stop and eat.
I need to do that more, in vlog adventure videos. I know so many of you guys would love that. It's essentially where the hashtag #feedthecory came from, from all of you guys telling me in Livestreams to stop and eat. hahaha
Why do so many people wear masks there?
Many people wear masks because of the air quality. So many motorcycle fumes and dust blown up in the air from traffic, plus lots of smog. Hanoi's air quality is pretty bad, similar to Seoul, Korea. The other reason is for sickness prevention. Usually if people are sick, they wear a mask so they don't spread germs, and the others wear masks cause they don't want to catch germs.
This is also common in other Asian countries. Korea has turned masks into a fashion statement. You don't see that in Vietnam though.
Vietnam seems like a less-developed Korea.
Vietnam feels like South Korea did back in the mid-1980's.
Wtf did I just watch. Stick to food vlog
I make many types of videos. Walking is just one of them. You should see my Seoul Walk playlist, there's over 50 walking videos in there. This is nothing new to my channel. ^^
Thanks for your feedback!
