- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- Join me on a walking tour around parts of my neighborhood in the Thuy Khue Ward, in Tay Ho district, of Hanoi city. This is where I live and I wanted to show how nice and quiet the back alley neighborhood is and what real life looks like as you walk around.
If you know my older videos, I've done many walking videos around Seoul, Korea. (SEOUL WALK Playlist here: • SEOUL WALK (2013-2017) )
This is something I really enjoy sharing with you guys! I can't wait to get out there and dig further and deeper into these neighborhoods!
Join me as I experience food, culture, and exploration in Asia!

@feed the cory So excited to see you back out and about in the alleyways and venturing
such fascinating areas...something i wondered as you walked
through...for people that have their own residences there...seems you
passed quite a few...not the apartment buildings...but individual
residences...are you familiar with how they receive mail? i didn't see
mail boxes and just wondered...what's your perception on this?
GypsyTae Chatelaine I'm still learning about that. I know there are post offices around, but I've still not seen one. That or I walked by it without knowing it was a post office. I've sewn Viettel Post, which I believe is like DHL or similar. I haven't seen any mail delivery motorbikes or trucks yet. I hope to find out this info soon! ^^
Great video! Very interesting to see the real Vietnam. How does Google Maps work over there? Can you get decent walking directions easily?
Spent a couple months in Hanoi in 2016. A very hospitable, safe, and friendly city. Lots of history and many museums. With enough time truly exploring the city and meeting the people, it becomes easy to understand why the US could not defeat the Vietnamese. They had been so brutalized by the French that they made up their minds it would never happen again. Short of total extermination, the US could never have defeated them. It was their home and they only wanted it to remain Vietnamese, under their own rule. Capitalism is thriving there. Westerners have been an ugly chapter in their history, yet they remain welcoming and friendly. Complete strangers invited me into their homes for meals. Were it not for family ties, I could see myself retired there. A modest pension affords a very comfortable lifestyle there.
It's usually quiet from 12pm - 2pm because alot of people have siestas in Vietnam. They start work around 7 - 7.30 then come home for lunch for about 2 hrs then go back till 7pm. Outs some times hard to find places to eat during this period. Really enjoying the walking vlogs. It's rare to see this. Great way to explore and get lost.
Thank you so much for your information! ^^
I have been noticing the siestas more and more. Everyone loves a good siesta! lol
Surprised so much of the old French architecture is still there, and even maintained well. Hanoi looks like a beautiful city
Yes, so much of the French influence remains after they left Vietnam in 1945. The history of Hanoi is long. The charm and vibe of Hanoi is just... classic and beautiful. ^^
Hey Cory,
Thanks for the walk through! The back alleys are so interesting. It reminds me of Guangzhou, China, when I was a kid. They have since demolished for new shiny condos and modern buildings.
It’s so nice to see places like that are still so vibrant.
Keep it up!
It's just like GZ
At 15:40 if you look to the left, there is a traditional Vietnamese snack shop. Their specialty is 'Banh Khuc'. Banh Khuc is sticky rice ball with mung bean paste and bit of pork inside. You will also receive a small package of roasted sesame seed powder and it goes really well with Banh Khuc. 1 Banh khuc costs roughly 15k vnd which is less than a dollar. defo check it out. Vietnamese usually buy this for breakfast so children can bring to school or just simply afternoon snack.
and it's not jackfruit that you saw. it's durian.
finally, if you go further down to the other end of the street, there is a market which sells lots of food and snack
I wouldn't recommend using Thu Cuc hospital because they are expensive and the service wouldn't be necessary good in term of value and quality. but if you have an emergency then defo go there.
Wow, thanks for the great tip! I've walked by it many times, but never actually bought any yet. I definitely will try now!
Matsuyama Kumiko 1
I loved watching. It was very peaceful and enlightening to see how people are living in another part of the world. The best part was the Buddhist Temple. The architecture and carvings were incredible.
This is nostalgic. I go to work everyday through this road now. Most the power lines at the main road have been built underground now.
So for a while I was a travel photographer (before Instagram took over the world)....mainly high-end luxury places but also sometimes more interesting things like pictorial on Panamanian indigenous peoples or clean water effort in Dominican Republic. What I loved especially, and what your videos provide, is a sense of discovering the life of a place. That giant beer hall and the shop at 17:54 selling moped seats and the guy in his boxers fishing.
Wow, super cool, Jim! I'm glad that you enjoy my "discovery" type of exploration videos. The goal of my walking videos is just to show what the sights and sounds are like. No special effects or anything to mask the reality of what a place really looks or feels like. Too bad I can't add smell, because Vietnamese food smells so awesome when walking around!
hahaha you just crossed my house. Thanks for the video, that I can see what is happening right there right now
Anh Tran Wow really? If you see me around, say hello! ^^ I always go to TM Coffee across the street from the big hospital. It's my go-to ca phe sua da location very close to my home. ^^
Excellent video and well presented, sir. Long ago (1973) I was a freelance photographer in the south of Vietnam and swore that once the war ended I'd go back and be a real tourist, to see the best of the country. Of course for long and complicated reasons I never made it back but your walks have filled in a lot of the gaps in my education.
I keep promising myself one day I'll make it to some far away country, never do but now I have access to your videos. I like your light manner and wandering style.
Keep them coming ... used to do this in European capital cities long ago. You never know what you might find round the next corner. At university I wrote an essay about The Situationalists who would deliberately get themselves lost as a means of discovery - we should all do it.
Oh wow, that's great! Yes, I love accidental discoveries. I hope you're able to return to Vietnam, it's a much different country than from the 1970's. Thanks for enjoying my walking tours, I hope you were able to watch some other ones! Cheers!
@@CoryMay81 - I'm retired now so I've run out of excuses not to travel. I take it they removed the bits of B.52 from the lake. I like the report on train arrival or not in the narrow alleyways. Thanks for your uploads.
I love the walking videos, always try to find them in any traveling youtubers.
Your videos of living in Vietnam literally warm my heart. Didn't know I can even miss home this much until I see your videos. I also love how you interact with the environments and being super chill with everything. The "xin chao" at 24:12 is so adorable btw lol
Also I know this vid is old but the graffitis on the walls are for demolition services in case you haven't figured out
Yeah I now know what those mean. It's unfortunate they just spray paint it everywhere on anyone's property. I've seen it on mountainsides, rocks, trees, too. Such disregard for anything. I wish it was outlawed.
i think there were some unsuccessful campaigns trying to deal with this problem in the past. you're right. not great sight.
I like your positive way toward other countries
Thank you! I love seeing and experiencing new cultures and locations.
I'm open to all the new stuff I've never seen before. ^^
Cory thank you ! you are back walking ! the first time i watched your videos back in the day you walked a lot and i am happy you are back doing it again nothing like exploring and going up side streets love it ! :)
You're welcome! Yes, there's so many interesting places to explore, I can't wait to upload more videos. ^^
Very interesting Cory. I live in rural Canada so this would be too much culture shock for me. The noise, the safety issues, (low electrical wires, erratic motor bike driving) and the rat would be too much for me. I do love all the plant life though. Those trees in the temple were amazing.
Glad the walking videos are back. This was actually really calming to watch. Thanks for the videos.
You're welcome Vue!! I'm happy you're happy. hehe
You gave me an experience to chilling and feel that cold air that you felt it in the video
I watched all of it
You're the best buddy ♥
The Temple is beautiful. The trees are so nice. So peaceful.
Wow! You are so lucky to live here. Thank you for taking the time to film this.🙂
Thanks Liz, glad you enjoyed the walk around! ^^
This is what I like to do when traveling, explore every nook and cranny you can find. After that, explore some more. This is the real life on the spot storytelling of VN. Thanks for taking us through this adventure. I bet if you travel the same path at a busier time you much more different things, perhaps interact with the people. Any chance you'll walk through the back alleys of the Old Quarter?
Yeah, I walked through here during prime lunch/siesta time. It's definitely different in the evening time and early morning. And yes, I am definitely going to Old Quarter for walking videos!
Unique footage of the alleys - love it, especially of the bonsai trees and temple
Glad you enjoyed the video tour! I haven't done these types of videos in a long time, but I will be getting back into a lot of them soon. ^^
After watching your video, I thought to myself, "Boy, if this video technology only existed back when I lived in Yokosuka back in the early 90's!" I've complimented you before on your filming style because of the 2 things that you do to make your videos more enjoyable to audiences. 1. Stable, wide angle scenery filmed at 60p (not 30p like many other vloggers do). 2. Attention to sound quality (this is sorely lacking in many vlogs that I've watched). This video was no exception. Keep up the good work, buddy!
Back in the early 90's in Yokosuka, I was using my family's handheld Sony camcorder (the big shoulder rig one) to record home videos. lol That really sparked my whole interested in filming, the fact that my family filmed home videos.
I appreciate that you appreciate solid footage and audio. ^^
My stuff is not the best, by far, and there's always room for improvement.
But I wish I could do even better!
Cheers for your awesome comment! ^^
I just found these videos and love watching them. Wishing I was young again and being adventurous.
Thanks! I'm glad you really enjoy them! Feel free to ask questions and leave comments on all the videos I make. I reply to everyone! ^^
Thank you for the video.
I like walking and talking videos.
You're welcome Jim! Glad you enjoyed it. ^^
I need to get out and film another walking video, I'm overdue to upload one!
Congratulations on such an interesting video. It's truly an enjoyable venture as your take the back street away from the main drag. One thing that I am quite afraid are those power lines, so low and too many. Could you imagine if those lines hit by a lightning, not a very pretty sight. I am original from Soc Trang, it's in the southern part of Vietnam, about 3 hours by car from Ho Chi Minh city. The tight neighborhood does bring back memories. Thank you once again for a great video of Hanoi. Hope there are more to come.
The whole maze of alleyways thing is pretty cool.
I love getting lost in alleys like this! ^^
Awesome content man, thoroughly enjoy your videos. You have an impeccable eye for fine details. Just moved to Hanoi so maybe I'll see you around!
Thanks Sean! Welcome to Hanoi, hope to see you around the Old Quarter some time
Definitely!
an absolutely amazing video. thank you for showing a side of Hanoi that's different than the usual tourist spots. looking forward to many more like this
Wendy Clancy You're welcome! ^^ That's the goal with my videos. The sights and sounds of a location as it is. Stay tuned for more!
Thanks, I love the back streets of Hanoi, enjoy walked and taking photos, thanks
You're welcome! I love the streets of Hanoi as well. ^^
Love your videos especially the neighbourhoods walks ones! Real virtual tourism thanks :D
I love your videos exploring allys...different from any other videos from other tourist..we can actually see the other side of the countries that you visited
I'm very happy you enjoyed the walk, Barry! Yeah, that's the idea behind my Walking videos back in Korea and now here in Vietnam.
There's only so much you see from TV shows or movies, and it paints this false image of what a country really looks like.
My goal with the Walking Tour videos is to capture these REAL neighborhoods and alleys, where families live and hang out day after day.
My videos in my SEOUL WALK playlist really opened the eyes of many people who are obsessed with Korea and K-pop, K-dramas, etc. They have this glamourized perception of Korea, that everyone looks like a k-pop star, and Seoul looks like downtown Gangnam area all over. Once I showed some slums and back alleys, people started to realize there's so much that exists where real people live and work.
I need to get out there and film more walks of Hanoi!
Thanks for commenting!!!
Your walking tours make everything feel so real - - as if we're there. Appreciate all your work and detailed information. Watch the traffic!
I'm glad you enjoyed it Dolores!! Thanks for watching and commenting. ^^
Looks so lovely!! Can't wait to revisit Vietnam in the future ;( thanks for the vid!!!
You're welcome! Thanks for enjoying it and leaving a comment! ^^
I do like waking and exploring my neighborhood l like your style of narrating. I thought Hanoi is a little bit modern and developed, and where you explored like a village, Welcome to mainland China and documenting!
I enjoy your videos. I don’t know how you wander everywhere and never seem to get lost. I couldn’t do that. Also, I would worry about my safety in those back alleys. It is interesting to see how other people live.
Glad you like my videos! Well, I definitely get lost from time to time, it even happened in this video. hehe
You don't need to worry, it's safe to wandering around these places. It's not a ghetto or slum where criminals lurk waiting to mug people. That's the kind of stuff I worry about back in America. These areas were I walk and explore are where the locals live, where children play and grandmothers whip up amazing food in their home kitchens. Very safe, very chill. ^^
Thanks for commenting!
I like to explore... it's adventurous. Going to Hanoi this coming August 2018.. Can't wait...
Very cool! Make sure to dress for hot weather, and stay hydrated during your stay! ^^
good luck Cory on your new adventure !
Mustang Mann Thank you very much! ^^
hey cory! i really enjoyed the video. when i go to other countries, i love getting lost and finding little treasures in the streets. those buddhist temples are really interesting and i would probably stop and explore them.
Glad you enjoyed the video! ^^
Getting lost is so important. lol
I'm definitely going to visit those temples in the coming days.
Cory, thanks for doing this walking video for us all to watch! Literally felt as though I'm walking with ya lol.
You're welcome! I'm glad you felt as if you were walking with me, that's the main point in these videos. I want to bring you to these places! ^^
Sandy X ikr 😂😂
I like your video a new adventure! I wish you many successes ... greetings from Guatemala!I like you video
When I was in Myanmar I did a lot of walking since it was the only way for me to get from one place to another. I might also try it here in Thailand soon when I start my vlog.
It is always good to see your videos....very interesting walk....thanks....take care and stay safe.
Thank you!!!
Woo hoo. I always like your walking tours in Seoul so I look forward to many in VietNam
David Stevenson Thanks for being so patient over such a long period of time! hahaha
Interesting walk. I will ask more questions after I have watched 10-15 episodes.
Ok thanks
Cory ..... LOVE Your VIDEOS ... 👍✌
Happy to see you exploring the neighborhoods once again, been awhile. Keep yourself hydrated at all times ok. God Bless!! >333
Thank you very much! I always carry some water with me. ^^
When my mom used to live in Saigon in the 70s their dogs would walk themselves out of the apartment to go toilet downstairs and would come back up after a couple minutes lol
Cory, Great to see you back into the neighborhood walk routine. What is connectivity like in Hanoi for mobile, as I guess nothing can better than that in Korea. Guess live streaming is out of bounds. For this 40 mins edited piece, what size memory is needed. How many batteries are needed. How are street food like in Hanoi. How is vietnamese cuisine as compared to Korean. Thanks and keep it up. D
Wow, so many questions! lol
For the tech questions, I'll do it here. The rest of your questions will end up in the Q&A video. ^^
For the 40 minute video, it was originally about 45 minutes, but some parts got chopped just to speed it up a bit. I use a 64GB micro SD card in the GoPro. This entire video was like 13GB straight out the GoPro, and it was filmed at 2K. I swapped batteries around 19 minutes into the video. GoPro batteries are notorious for sucking.
Awww this reminded me of the live streams!ㅠㅠ Loved it, Cory!😊
Can you do one during the night??
Michelle Thanks Michelle! I will film at night in the Old Quarter. So much activity and stuff at night. My neighborhood would be too quiet and dark, the GoPro will take very crappy video in low light.
Hey Cory fyi, the old mossy walls you see all around are not just temples, those are actual house wall from long time ago. I don't know exactly how long but could be from 18-19th century or older.
Also, the Buddish looking gates you saw are not actually temple gates. They are just gates to neighborhood that were built in the past.
Thanks so much! I can't read the Chinese characters to understand what those gates were, but many do look very old.
💜 Walking Video!!!!! yay Vietnam💜⛅☁ Sweet Glad YOU Are enjoying yourself My Good Friend! Get excited new video Pop UP lol, 👌🌞
PrincessMegan Elsa hehehe You are always the most excited for new videos! ㅋㅋㅋ Thanks for always supporting!!!
the power cables are incredible & such a fire hazard
pollution must be pretty high from all the scooters & vehicles in narrow alleys
hate to deliver mail there!! LOL
I suppose they could be a fire hazard, although it's pretty uncommon to see or hear about fires breaking out because of the cables. Usually fires start from someone smoking or an out of control kitchen or altar fire.
The pollution is pretty bad, not just air but also noise, due to all the motorcycle honking and engine noise all day long.
A few days ago, the smog was so heavy you could barely see buildings one mile away.
Delivery is pretty decent here, surprisingly. Every business and/or home is marked pretty clearly with address number. Drivers do get lost from time-to-time, though. I suppose that's inevitable. lol
hi love theses walk around vids,,you get the feel of the place,,theres a few guys in japan that does simuilar vids,,usually on my last day on holidays,,i hop on a train or bus,,and just get off and get lost some where
andy stubbs Getting lost is one of the greatest ways to discover new things. ^^
I miss this! Walking videos are my favorite! Keep 'em coming Cory! How is the weather over there?
Pf 20 Getting back to my roots with walking videos! ^^ Weather is nice if you stay out of humidity and the sun. I'm sitting at a cafe right now, outside, and there's lots of shade and breeze. It's 1230pm and nice.
Cory, now that Kyle Le not in Vietnam but ther Old Boy Yevato Kim. He is a good guy.
Thanks for the info. Yes, Kyle is my friend, and he will come to Hanoi soon and we will collab. ^^
Old Boy is down in Saigon, but if I'm down there I will link up with him for sure. He and I have chatted a few times before. ^^
that's what I'm talking about :) great video Corey, I love it, thanks a lot
You're welcome! Thank you for commenting and enjoying!
Hi Cory, i enjoyed your walking tour thank you
Thanks for watching Lucy! Did you see any of my other walking tour videos? I have so many from Korea and several others from Vietnam. ^^ My Livestream tours are also similar. ^^ Check them out if you haven't!
GREAT VIDEO BRO, VINTAGEEEEE CORYYY, LOVE IT!!!!! looking forward to more vids. ps "you can fit a body in there" hahaha i was like damnnnn coryyyy gangsterrrrrrr lol
I suppose I could have said "Wow, those pizzas must be huge!"
Yeah, I went dark. lol
Hey Cory, I'm glad to see you back at your game! BTW, the fruit you were pointing at in the video was durian not jackfruit.
Thanks Limo!
Yeah, I didn't realize that until after I edited the video.
Jackfruit have smaller spikes, and Durian have large, funkier spikes on them.
I really enjoy the walk videos :)
I'm very glad you do! Thanks for watching them. ^^
Stay tuned for more!
I enjoy the walk videos Cory. Get yourself a moped and video the open roads. 👍
Follow me on Instagram or Facebook as well, I post lots of pictures of food I don't make videos about, but also random stuff from my daily life. I just posted the Yamaha Nouvo I rented for a month.
Gotta practice riding more and make use of my stabilizer. ^^ Stay tuned!

Wow! Would really like to see those same alleys and buildings at night...
I hope by now u know that is not a jackfruit! Hehe... they’re durians! Hehehe... although I must admit they both have a rather similar pungency to them... thanks for the walks... loving them so far! More please... 🌸❤️
Yes, I've since discovered durian and have fallen in love with it! Jackfruit is okay, but I always prefer durian. And now I totally know the difference. hehehe In Korea, you don't see durian really, only jackfruit.
Actually the tallest building in Hanoi (also tallest in Vietnam) is Keangnam Landmark tower, Lotte Tower is the second one (2nd in Vietnam)
+Banhmi trungran Oh thank you very much for correcting me! I didn't know that. ^^
it's fun to watch you walking and exploring the neighborhood this way, but at 1PM in the summer, that's insane bro.
It's gonna be great from mid October for walking around Hanoi, now the only good time for walking is early morning, 5AM-6AM
Banhmi trungran You know my dumbass is going to still be out there at the worst time ever. hahaha
Hi Cory, thanks for your video. Even I am from Hanoi, I have never been to those alleys. And, if you like walking, you should try The Walking Street around Hoan Kiem Lake, The Walking Street will be opened specially during weekends. There will have a lot of fun stuff there. Anw, enjoy Hanoi life.
Thắng Vũ Thank you! I will definitely visit Hoan Kiem area during that time to film that. It seems like a lot of fun!
Feed The Cory wait for your next videos :D
Great Video 😎
Thank you! ^^ I hope you checked out my other walking videos from Vietnam as well as Korea! ^^
Very unique nrighborhood
most of the seafood comes from quang ninh, apart of ha long bay that is a coastal city with lots of seafood
Back alleys reminds me of India ... as always great vid
India is a country I'd love to spend some time exploring!
Giọng bạn rất hay như bình luận viên bóng đá. Welcome to VietNam ! 👍🌷
I miss my City very much. I am now in Germany.
You should come back and visit your home town! ^^
I am thinking about "moving" (well, staying) in Vietnam for a month or two (depending how long I can without applying for more complicated visa) while "working from home" (writing). This is excellent source material. The 350 USD for a month for a rooftop studio, even though I am a European who is not paid in USD, would be perfect.
You can purchase a tourist visa for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. You can choose single entry or multiple entry. And all of this also applies to a business visa.
The only difference between all of them is tourist visas need to leave the country every 90 days, business visas don't. That's about it. Nothing complicated about it at all. ^^
And don't worry about the USD part, everything here is paid in Vietnamese Dong (VND), but sometimes they list apartments in USD. If you work here, you will be paid in VND cash.
Cory, I suggest u buy a bicycle and mount the camera on it to film. U will cover much more distance ,less tiring and the viewing not so "bumpy".😁😁
Planning on getting a scooter? Might be nice way of getting around.
Thanks for asking Carmen, yes, I did actually. I rented a Yamaha Nouvo for a month to get the feel for riding a motorbike around Hanoi. I'll be filming videos from riding around soon! ^^
love your videos :-)
Not a single bicycle? Why not?
Fascinating look at the city. Thanks.
About what I love to do in foreign countries, I also enjoy walking but I never travel alone and unfortunately, I don't have friends who would walk with me for hours. In Germany, I also go long distances by foot and enjoy it. But now in the winter time it's way too cold to walk by foot.
Oh, that's unfortunate. Some countries aren't safe to wander around alone.
Most Asian countries are fine, from my experience. ^^
I'd love to explore Germany one day!
Feed The Cory if you’re in Hamburg , let me know. If I will be here too, I’ll show you few places.
I love the video! What do you use to make it so stable?? :D I've been filming with my gopro in Hanoi as well!
I have the Zhiyun Z1-Pround stabilizer... it's like their first stabilizer model, and still works very well, but they've since released much better stabilizers.
The little note said the tree is millions each and the contact information if you want to get one for your place. (at 35:30)
Hey Cory!
1) I don't know if you answered this in a previous video, but why did you choose Vietnam versus another Asian Country like Thailand...or even a return to the USA?
2) I prefer international places with a mass public transportation system. I have for example, the T-money, Suica, Rabbit (Bangkok)... etc cards. People talk about cab scams but I have yet to get in one internationally. Actually, I don't even remember the last time I was in a taxi here in Chicago. The mass public transportation along with walking is how I like to explore new areas. I typically book a location for at least 2 weeks. The first few days, I get all of the tourist stuff out of the way. I then just explore the streets or more areas without a lot of tourist traffic. For example, the typical tourist does not go to the Gwacheon National Science Museum or to Seodaemun Prison. I try to stay away from organized tours as well. Sometimes it can't be avoided like the DMZ in South Korea or Machu Picchu, Peru. I like to stay in apart-hotels if possible. One of the first things I ask about are the location of the grocery stores/markets. Last Summer I even used my Costco Card in Seoul. I also travel to eat! Although I like South Korea and Japan, when I have traveled to those places in July/August, I don't eat well. I like lots of fresh fruit. Unfortunately, I have a hard time paying $10 for a pound of grapes or $5 for one mango. There is no variety like in Mexico, Peru, or Thailand.
Marlita Sanders I will answer #1 in an upcoming Q&A video. And like you, I tend to avoid the overly touristy things as well. I like to walk and explore cities that way, or through word of mouth recommendations from locals. They know where all the good stuff is! hehehe
Feed The Cory , yes you helped me last year and you didnt even know it! I stayed in Fraser Place and everyday I would walk to the subway. Not once did I venture the 5 or so minutes more to City Hall- Even though I would see it in the distance. Then two days before my departure, I see your live City Hall walk. I never even knew there was a palace near me. I followed your path and ended up getting quite a few things in the local artist store inside of City Hall. I have not traveled to Vietnam and I was thinking about it for next Summer. However, I am a "Charly Cheer" and sometimes I just want to not have to bother with random hands in my hair ,people taking my picture , or the stares.
Do you know about this group:hanoikids.org/
These are college kids who give free tours.
You should see the rat's nest of power lines in Cambodia!
Great, great video! Felt like I was there (without having to worry about getting run over crossing the street).
I'll be in Hanoi in a few weeks, and one thing I'd like to do is to rent a scooter and ride around that lake. Is it easy to find a rental place around there?
Andy Chan You'll def be doing lots of crossings while in Hanoi. hehehe It's worse on motorbike in my opinion!
Uhmmm I dont know of any motorbike rental places there. If you do a quick search on Google or Trip Advisor, I'm sure you can find a decent place.
I pay $50 a month, includes helmet, and mechanic service from their shop. (If it breaks down they will come and get the bike and repair it for free).
In the alleys, all those gated doors in the walls, there are so many! What are they? Stores that aren't open? Stores that aren't currently occupied by a business? Or do people live there?
It could be homes or businesses. I'm not really sure... sorry.
That's okay! Thanks for trying to answer.
Thank you indeed for all the answers. I am very grateful (as a patient teacher with students firing questions in succession - Apologue, down memory lane). Patience in turn for the Q & A piece to camera. D
dan d hahaha Nice. You're welcome! I should film the Q&A in the next 48 hours, I hope. ^^
"jackfruit" :)) it was durian btw
Yes, thank you. When i filmed this many months ago, I didn't know the difference between the two fruits bt looking at them. Now I know, because I LOVE durian! hehehe
Feed The Cory glad that you love it!
Is there any issue with street dogs ? In Thailand (I live in Bangkok) you could never walk down anything but a main street where the dogs are somewhat accustomed to walkers, otherwise you face some vicious bites. I hope to visit Hanoi soon really looks beautiful. Thanks.
I've never had any problems with animals, anywhere. I'm a super animal person, I always attempt to approach or befriend dogs and cats, but if the situation is strange and it's obvious the dog or cat is not in a good place, I back off right away.
There are plenty of dogs in Vietnam, and I just let them smell me first, and play it by ear. If they seem friendly, I immediately shower them with love. But if they seem cautious, then I take it a lot slower. I've not yet been afraid of a street dog in Vietnam, but if there was a situation, I'd know what to do to keep myself safe and leave the angered dog alone.
omg My grandma's house near yours. :-o
hahaha That's cool! ^^
ur pretty
Hey Cory, I was thinking, maybe you should try to visit Caucasian Republics one day. There is South Caucasus which includes Georgia, Azerbajdzhan, and Armenia. And North Caucasus which includes Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachaevo-Cherkessia and few other republics. But these republics are pretty small. You probably heard about Chechnya war, but don't worry, the war is over and it's safe and beautiful there. South Caucasus became independent in the 90's and North Caucasus remains in Russia. If you want to visit the Caucasus, you should know that it's extremely hot in summer and in some republics (Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan as much as I know) it's considered inappropriate to wear tank top or shorts, but in the beginning of autumn or mid/late spring, the weather is just perfect and also perfect to go to the mountains. Mountains are just beautiful with a lot of very old architecture that is hundreds of years old and nobody lives there (www.google.de/search?q=caucasus+mountains+architecture&client=safari&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CYmI3L-tWWqaIjgThK48pIZC5q4I5LE_1I90FXp90wGpY8LbKLq9uS0ewLN47ltOdwfR0RTgmSYh4A9FCut5_1H1hgFSoSCROErjykhkLmESiR8T2dl7stKhIJrgjksT8j3QURJoPdNg_1C2OAqEglen3TAaljwthHgRsXwbmY2vyoSCcour25LR7AsETICcGG4YqV4KhIJ3juW053B9HQRcTvWTN41IToqEglFOCZJiHgD0RHG7QpUdhJXqioSCUK63n8fWGAVEYjEVnMWp6qH&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi9sLG8gpfZAhUFYVAKHbYJDPgQ9C96BAgAEBs&biw=1280&bih=656&dpr=2), and pure untouched nature. Summer is also amazing but hot. I think it would be a nice place for you to visit one day cause it's quite different from what you saw till now. It's Europe but at the same time, it's different than West Europe because of the historical, political, religious and cultural background.
Thanks for all this info, I would LOVE to visit all of those places!!!
My friend did a month-long photography journey around all of those countries, and he said it was an amazing experience!
And another friend of mine spent 3 months traveling around there by himself.
Pls take video of the famous Hanoi Hilton🇻🇳
Sorry, I left Vietnam in April 2019.
a long walk Cory?
What type of GoPro do you have? I ask because I'm thinking of getting a GoPro and the 5 is on sale but the 6 has zoom and built-in stabilizer, just getting your take would be nice. Thanks
This was filmed with the GoPro HERO 4 Black, which is very out-dated now.
I'd say if you have the money, get the HERO 6 Black, it's the best on the market.
But if you're on a budget, get the HERO 5 Black.
I'm saving to get the HERO 6 Black before summer, it's going to be a great investment in recording quality.
I might try and get the stabilizer/drone combo as well!
Thank you, it's going to a year before I move to Thailand and it's the decision to wait and maybe then 6 will come down or get it now and gain experience and have some fun learning to produce a video worth watching...but thanks for your help. I'll keep watching your vlogs and Viet Nam is interesting, I just wonder how I would blend into VN culture and your video's are very helpful.
Has anyone ever told you that is not jackfruit? They're durian you should try it.
+Vinh Hanh Phu Yes I understand I made a mistake and said jackfruit, not durian. I mentioned that in the comments a long time ago. Hehehe
have you tried it yet? if you haven't you should try it. It's pretty good
+Vinh Hanh Phu I will try very soon. It smells good, but I don't want to eat it by myself. ^^
I think it would be fascinating to walk through that labyrinth of back alleys....Without the rats though...
Cory, I am curious to know why did you move to Vietnam?

Ma Beatriz Fores yep uber is everywhere
Cory great video but distortion of image is way too much. You might seriously consider getting new equipments.
Yeah, this was the older GoPro HERO 4 Black model, which is pretty out-dated now.
I want to HERO 6 Black, which would be amazing! But I have no money. lol

Yeah, don't eat freshwater fish in crowded Asian countries. They are either from dirty rivers or fish farms. Go with ocean fish
