Discovered Johnny cash 25 years ago after my father passed away. He used to call me Johnny Yuma. Found out why he called that after listening to one of Johnnies songs. I was only 8 years old or so at the time but these are memories I will never forget. Thank you mr cash.
Janis joplins version of this song is the worst one in my opinion. Johnny, kris, and Waylon all had good ones, and Gordon light foot did well too. But janis’s was not nearly as good.
Allowing other singers to sing Me and Bobby McGee, the song he wrote and sang, was one of many Kris Kristofferson's many gifts to this world. Great job to Johnny Cash, Roger Miller and others. And of course, Janis Joplin!!!!!!!!
You should look up Charley Price's version. There is the live and the record version. I think the record version is his best. But his is also from the heart. I think his better than Johnny Cash although he did a fantastic job
Been listening to Johnny Cash for 50 yrs now. I was a little kid back then who did not even know English yet (my second language). This version still makes me want to melt.... ;-)

It is not just that Janice Joplin sang this first; the lyrics always seemed to me to be from a female's point of view. Hearing this sung by a man, really puts a spin on it. Not many straight male artists could pull this off. Even fewer would try. Johnny Cash's open mind is a big as his talent and as his heart. Always authentic in everything he did.
I came across Janis Joplin's songs in 2012. And this one is my favourite. But Johnny Cash took it to another height altogether. If Janis had the hungry haste of river in voice, Johnny reflects ocean's tireless waiting.
I reccomend you listen also to Kristofferson's version. He wrote the song, and his version of it is closer to this one but it has it's own quality to it.
Love Johnny and his cover of KK's song but Gordon Lightfoot's cover is my favorite. God Bless, Johnny. He is singing with the Lord his Savior. Thanks for memories, Johnny and Precious Memories they were.
