- Delaware-Lackawanna action on August 7, 2012. A grain train with 4 RS-3's and a C420 followed by the PT-98 with 4 units. The C420 was added to the PT-98 at Pocono Summit and lifted 42 (!) cars from the NS interchange at Slateford. My only regret was missing the RS-3's dragging the grain out of Scranton, as I got a late start that morning. Enjoy!
*Super cool ALCO video* 👍👍👍 I love it. I can't keep up with my first video Diesel sound. 🤠😎
My 2 year old absolutely loves alco diesels. I have a g scale rs3, and I turned up my speakers for this video and he is screaming ALCO!!!! ALCO!!!!ALCO!!!!!He was going ballistic bonkers over this high quality video. Thank you!
Glad to be an inspiration to another generation of Alco fans. Hopefully he will be able to hear live 244's when he is older.
What an amazing looking diesel. Especially the streamlined look of the 50s into the 60s
this has to be the coolest place in the country to watch trains
Modern locomotives can't make it out of the yard without the computer crashing and here we have 70 year old girls just rolling along!!
Glad to see that 4068 running again. That used to be our LVRC #7801. And they put the original D&H number back on it too. I have MANY hours in it as engineer on the LVRC. Kind of nice to see it alive again! Looks like she's found a real good home!!
David Poor so basically there going to lose there name and paint scheme is that what your saying cuz I dont want that to happen
No Josh, WE lost it to the DL. Rest assured it's at it's permanent home now where it is loved and cared for. Their gain was our loss!!
Yeah I just hope they dont derail it cuz those are rare to see still operated on the tracks instead of the museum so if they make changes to it well its gunna still be the original to me
well, with the D&L being most famous for operating ALCo's, I bet that it's probably the best place for it to be while still being actually used.
LVRC, so so many good souvenirs. RS3, RS11, their crew, Président Wolfson, all Morrisville yard pile of RS3 for spare parts, horseshoe curve, Wolcott covered bridge and so much more....and all that 100 miles railroad destroyed by a single boxcar.
Yep, the boxcar that killed the railroad. So unfair. Without that CV oops, may be LVRC would still be alive today with NHVT freight up to Whitefield with its ball signal....
It was decades ago in an other life ❤
A few years ago when I was like 10 I think I saw those same three rs-3's ride by the track near my house. Those were the first locomotives I had an obsession with
Actually I remember just about every locomotive in this video
I’m sold I’m taking a trip this winter and seeing these beasts in action before there’s no more left. Just putting my feelings about these amazing locomotives out. 😔🤩
You're too late, the 3 black RS3s are stored, only the 1554 is in service AFAIK. They were highly disliked by the crews. The days of multiple RS3 consists are over.
Wonderful smoke there. Love the horn. Love any RS with the nicely rounded ends.
I too love the rounded look, adds to the streamlining.
Love the RS-3s One of my favorite engines. Great video:)
Very good content.Keep these type of videos coming.A great treat to the railfaning world.Alcos always welcome.
Incredable beautiful 4 stroke power
That Jersey Central model phase was never done in HO. They all makes with louvres body. All CPR RS3 had those air filters opening. I plan to make one in 1/8 scale and chop nose it will be. Don´t know yet wich CPR it will be. They were so ugly with flat cab end, 2 added windshield windows stolen from scrapped sisters, ugly, ugly, ugly. Love them so much.
It´s gonna to be quite a beast.
That JC single tone horn is quite impressive while echoing.
Thanks for these precious videos.
My ultimate favorite locomotive of all time!! The horn is music to my ears. Bring em back to the yards to keep the history of switching. Choreographed black smoke. That's what makes Alcos distinctive. Alot of nostalgia right there! I'd do anything to sit and ride in one for a day, a dream come true
Unfortunately the days of multiple RS-3's are over on the D-L. The 3 black ones are up for sale, the 1554 will be retained until the lease with ARHS expires.
I LOVE that ALCO growl!
Wow, Alco Heaven! Got video of the 4118 on the Perkiomen Branch back in the 1980's working fot the Anthracite Railway. Glad to see her still running after all these years!
THAT was great fun, and beautifully recorded. Thanks!
Best video on RUclips hands down. I worked for Norfolk southern 27 years they don't make.em like alco did !
This is amazing. this takes me back when LSRC was running there RS units when I was younger.
These are by far one of my favorite diesels
Love the sound alcos make when they rev.
Great video. have many pictures of the CNJ Unit when I lived back in NJ on the Black River and Western
Wow!! I'm a new Alco fan per se, but recently purchased my 1st ever HO scale Milw 470 which is a RS-3. I'm told that the line that ran through where my Grandparents live used to use RSC-2??
Anyway I'm just a Midwest railfan/modeler who mainly runs BN, ATSF, CNW, MILW, DM&E, MRL, and RCPE . Now I'm definitely more into Alco after seeing this video!
Would love to see some Detroit & Mackinaw RS-3 footage! I fondly remember seeing and hearing them a a kid in the 60s. They sure had a unique sound. Especially on a hot summer night when I was laying in bed supposed to be sleeping.
See my 3 videos. Search youtu.be for Detroit &Mackinac and Lake State fmnut. There are 3 videos.
love to hear those Alco's talk!! thanks for the vid !!
That is one awsome horn at 10:04, not just a little toot 👍😄😎Really nice Loco.
Crystal clear image and excellent footage. I really should head up and visit the D-L. I'm doing myself a disservice by not doing so.
They have 6 loco's and like 20 cars I tought St lawrence with 4 loco's and 40 cars was alot of engine's but this My dude is Plenty for this train they only needed 1-2 to haul it. (awesome catch)
Love me some slobbering soundin" ALCOs!
Wow! ALCO heaven!
Great great footage and mashup of equipment
Those ALCOs on the last clipped sounded like imitation steam locomotives.
Those are some beauties. Love CNJ #1554.
Great video, love the RS-3.
wow, this must be the only place to see four rs 3's together
Correct!
Great to see there are still some end cab Alcos in service. The only diesels I like are end cab, almost all the Baldwins are gone and the Alcos are dangerously close to "revenue extinction".
Not sure why you are calling these "end cabs". The cab on the RS-3 is farther from the end of the frame than it is on most of the Century models excepting the C420.
I call them end cab because the cab is closed to the end, they have a very long nose ( traditionally operated long hood froward) and a short hood where the generator, lavatory and/or air brakes were located. Technically the term end cab means something like an SW1500, NP15, SW1,SW4, BLW S-12, etc. that has no short hood, with a very long "nose" and the cab at the very back. However, I figured the term could fit the RS-3 as well because compared to he length of the front hood, the rear hood is very short, so basically the cab is at the rear end of the cram. I may be stretching the term, since it does usually just to switchers, but these are still road switchers.
Hope this helps!
Sorry, compared to THE long front hood, not he long ....
and MP15 switcher not NP15.
Jacob Woods In Winnipeg our GWWD has 3 RS-23's and 1 S-13 all end cabs MLW/ALCO
loving the single chime horn on the jersey central rs3
That's a Leslie A200
El sonido ALco es estupendo ; en Uruguay fueron legendarias las " Shovel Nose". Muchas gracias.
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing.
RS-3's, Centuries, jointed rail, the only thing missing is a caboose!
Caboose 7:40
Well...there's one at 1:23 as well. :-)
Just think how it was on the Erie in Marion Ohio. Yard power was all either RS's or S units! Just a few yrs too late to see that show sadly. This vid is close as I've come to that.
Great video! Nice to see the 4103 & 4118 running again....I use to see them on the Octoraro Rwy. in southeastern Pa. in the early 90's. Hoping to catch them this year going by Tobyhanna Depot....I hear they go by on Sat. about noon, or did they change there schedule?
Super video catch.
Awesome smoke show at 6:30.
This is a great video! I was reading an article in TRAINS Locomotive edition and wanted to check it out. Also, I subscribed to your channel.
man this is alco heaven for me thanks for sharing :D
I'm doing fine, hope to get some DL footage tomorrow.
Ed K.
And now the 4103 and 4118 have been sold to Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson to run on the old D&H Adirondack Branch
Thank god they are still probably in service
Only the CNJ 1554. The rest are for sale.
@@fmnut well one day if I become a train driver I might try to both make a fundraiser to make the other locomotives go back into service or save up enough money to buy those locomotives
Well u see I live some where on the coast of south Texas
But there’s a near by train yard at the docks and it’s pack with Santa Fe and B.N.S.F train engines there waiting to be bought
And also why are the rest for sale and why is c.n.j 1554 still in service?
Amo esta locomotiva ,ia para o colégio ,os vagões eram puxados por uma alco V8
Excellent video, good editing!
Ed K. OH WELL PRODUCTIONS
Very nice video.
look at those great ALCOs
Totally awesome!
This could be the PGE in the mid 60s with the C420 replaced with a chopped-nose RS18.
ahhhh buddy! 6:46
11:50 Was that a RSD15? Awesome ALCO sounds!
***** Sorry, I see the one you mean now, that is an RS32. My mistake. Similar nose to an RSD15 but much shorter and only 4 axles. Also 2000 HP from a 12 cyl engine instead of 2400 from a 16 cyl.
*****
Thank you! I didn't think to check the axles but I can see now.
They must've gotten spares from the Army. How else could they keep these things running?
One of those RS3s has a prime mover from a scrapped MRS1.
That horn on 1554 sounds like a GG1 horn
It's the same type, Leslie A 200.
What is the type of horn does the 4103 have? You can hear it starting at 2:59. That is a little different than other RS-3's I have heard.
James Brown Nathan M-3 "tilt bell".
awesome!
i think that's their whole roster of RS3's. Does anybody know if they still operate them today?
The 3 black ones are out of service and up for sale. The CNJ unit will remain in service for now under the terms of the agreement with the owner ARHS. Got 80 grand? You can own your own RS-3!
Portugal tem locomotivas destas que estão encostadas e podiam fazer a delícia dos amantes dos comboios diesel.
Love seeing that many RS-3's throttle up in consist. 4118 seems to put out a little more dark smoke than the others. Wonder if she just needs a little tune up. I love that 1554 still has the tugboat horn! :) Does DL only use Alco power?
Shane Singleton they have an ancient EMD on the roster but it's usually kept at Steamtown. The rest is all Alco.
ah ok thanks, we don't have alcos in pan am railways, all emd GP40's, GP40-2LW's, SD40's, SD40-2's, SD40-3's, & SD40M-2's.
Rs3 sound like mini GE locomotives.
because theyre 4 stroke duhh, and overall GE helped ALCo to make diesels
Ottimo video
why do they need so many engines?
MAKE WAY FOR THE ARMY OF THE ALCO EMPIRE!!!
Hi I have a few engine sizes I really like but I need to decide the 1 or 2 I willlhave a small 4x8 layout I like EMD GP 9s SW1500 Alco S 2 and SD 7 or SD 9 can I ask your thoughts
Thanks Dave
What railroad are you modeling? For a layout that small an SW or EMD Geep would be fine.
what kind of horn does 4103 have?
Nathan Airchime M3RT2. Also known as the "tilt bell" M3. The #2 bell was lengthened and bent upward to clear the roofline when mounted forward of the cab. Often applied to Alco RS2/3 where rooftop mounting presented clearance issues.
Why did they needed to back up so many times?
switching obviously
@@voidjavelin23 you do know that comment is 11 years old?
@@Brian4449 so does it really matter?
@@voidjavelin23 then why did you comment
@@Brian4449 answering, even if its a year old comment
alcos are the BEST!
wow nice
Is that 3 R-S's or 3 rs-3's
Pollution central!
Three of Alco's model RS-3.
Give it a break, that's what makes ALCo diesels the best! The SMOKE.
That lead RS3 is that a Nathan m3 or m5?
It's a Nathan M3RT1, also known as a "tilt bell" M3. The bell facing the cab was elongated and bent upward to clear the cab roof. They were designed pretty much for the Alco RS-2 and 3, although they could be fitted to other types that had a cab wall mount if the mounting was extended to clear the roof overhang. They found their way onto a variety of units as the older Alcos were retired.
@@fmnut thanks
ALCo 244 or 250.?
Alvaro Israel Echeverria I believe they are all 244's. 2 of them got engine transplants from ex-military MRS-1's
Alco diesel locomotives chug and growl at speed
nice
Where exactly is this and do they still run them?
The line shown in the video runs from Scranton to the Delaware Water Gap (Slateford Jct.) through the Pocono mountains. If you google the Delaware-Lackawanna RR you will find out tons of info. Yes, they still use the RS-3's but they have not yet put all 4 together on a big train this summer to my knowledge. They are using them more on the local runs around Scranton.. They are usually stored during the winter months to reduce wear and tear caused by the cold weather.
Cool. Unfortunately, I live to far to go see them. We had a all ALCO short line here. Minnesota Commercial. Mostly RS-11s or -27s But they have retired most of them recently. Now they mostly use hand me down GE power.
@@viewstuff36 Have you ever seen Minnesota Commercial's #71, a former CP Rail MLW C636CAT, the one with the Caterpillar 3608 straight 8 cylinder prime mover installed in it?
Que maravilha, só detesto o diabo do sino, estraga tudo.
