I’m crying right now I just want my dog to be happy and instead she’s always stressed and anxious because of my mom and dad constantly yelling at her she deserves better!
Have your parents watch a video about understanding dog body language. There are excellent ones on the Internet. This way your parents will recognize stress behavior in your dog and understand the effect they are having on him. Use your allowance or birthday money or get a small job, to pay for some sessions with a good POSITIVE trainer. Most trainers will be happy to teach you how to train your dog yourself and will make you a good deal on a package of lessons. Good trainers will try to help you. I’ve done free lessons for people who can’t afford lessons, many times. There are also free puppy classes in some communities. Ask at your pet food store and they will be able to give you some options.
Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.
The correction is they hate being on a leash. Just no one trusts their dog will stay with them, but they stay. I had a dog who ran away from everyone before she came to me, I was the ONLY owner who could walk her without a leash.
A while ago a Pitbull was off the lead and made a runner for my dog growling and baring its teeth and attacked my dog and she got wounded and has been shittin herself when she sees another dog. Long story short dont call people close minded people when you think u r right and at least give a reason. No harm done

I just got my boy a couple days ago. Think someone just didn’t want him and dumped him. When I met him at the shelter I knew within the first 90 seconds he was gonna be mine! I couldn’t have asked for a better dog!!! He’s intimidating looking pit but in actuality he’s just a big baby!! He loves people and other dogs. Just watching him sleep for the first time in who knows how long without a hostile environment made me fuzzy inside. I know he knows what he got! And he loves every minute of it!! His sleeping quarters has 2 beds, 3 blankets, and 2 pillows. And he uses every one of them! It makes me so happy watching him sleep so deeply! After being in that crazy environment he’s finally got some peace and quiet! Comfy bed and and blankets, filtered water, steak dinners, warm baths. This dude is gonna have the life!!! Wish I could it all for those doggies at the shelter! There’s some real shitty people out there!
I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide ruclips.net/user/postUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!
Freda Jordan the reason trainers advise that is because when you leave, a dog may get anxious. Greeting and playing with them as soon as you get home feeds their fear that you were in danger while you were away, and then they become even more anxious. It may seem odd, but it’s true. Obviously this is not the case for all dogs, but for some it is very serious and a trainer can pick that up. Trainers understand dog and they understand how their minds work. :)
This may be heartbreaking to hear, but sadly, dogs don't like being hugged. It's a display of aggressiveness/dominance to your dog and may cause them to growl or bite when their owners are ignoring or are ignorant of doggy bodily cues of being uncomfortable when being hugged.
I could never. Anytime I left the house, I looked forward to walking back in and seeing my butter bean. I would seriously miss him before actually leaving the house. I was the one with separation anxiety :/
For a tight leash, I just stop the moment the dog starts tugging. It usually only takes ~1-3 outings for them to learn that if they want to sniff and explore, they can't be dragging me along. They'll tug when they get excited and see another dog, but they'll immediately go back once they realize I'm not moving. From there, we approach at a nice pace and everything is good. Sometimes, it's not about positive or negative reinforcement, but remaining impartial and letting them do what they do and limiting them when they take that too far.
@@ericah6546 I... did not know that, but its good to know I didn't come up with the idea. I just thought about how people learn. You present a set of rules and let them experience and find their own drives. If a baby wants to move on their own, they have to crawl. If they want to communicate, they need to talk. If a dog wants to sniff something, it has to do so at a reasonable pace. The only real difference is that when teaching animals, you need to generally speak their language if you want to teach them yours for punishment or reward. The key is for them to understand *why* things are happening. My cats understand that clawing the carpet earns booties. My dog understands that barking excessively earns a muzzle. (Not in a cruel way. I only keep it for as long as they attempt then remove once they stop. Muzzling dogs for little yips and yaps is horrible too. Just those cases where you run into a dog barking for 5-10 mins straight at a passer by, for example.) Hitting an animal *rarely* communicates what people would think and the only time I've seen even giving a spank to be useful is with dogs that are normally kind but lash out violently to specific things or when there's a lack of understanding as to what they're capable of. And I'm not talking minor, I'm talking about potential visits to the hospital or vet. Then, a spank can often show that purposely hurting others earns the same back. But its a difficult one to do right. I've only ever done it *ONCE* with a cat that didn't realize that it was a bit too big to be playing like it was with the other cats. Maine Coon With a bunch of normal cats. If you've ever seen one... you can see where the problem came in. One spank showed "Oh crap... being bigger means that if I do something light... it can hurt." They were more gentle from then on and they're a happy, affectionate cat now. I think she's 7 now?

Very true. My 15yr dog (god rest her soul) had to go out every 45 min. I live in an apartment so literally for 6 moths before putting her down (she had bad arthritis and started collapsing regularly and started going blind) anyways, I had to take her to dog park ever hour thru out the night. 1,2,3,4,5 am every single night while I worked too. And even.. then she still had accidents in the apartment. Smh. It was so hard on all of us but she was family and I never punished her for peeing in house. I knew she was house trained and it was due to her age. So please ppl, watch out for that and don’t get upset when they get old or have issues. They are family and have to be treated like it.
Oh and thanks for bringing up hot payment. I’ve had 3 dogs for over decade and never knew the paws could burn until a year ago. It’s not talked about and ppl need to know that especially in southern areas that get hot so good job for saying that.👍🏻
raymond daubney I completely understand where your coming from. My dog grew up alongside my son but also with me and even though I had another dog, we all roamed around for a while not knowing what to do without her. It was even hard on my other dog. It just seemed so quiet in the house. I am truly very sorry for your loss because i know it is a true loss. The only comfort I get is knowing I gave her the best loving life I could and I know she knew that as well. Even tho it hurt like hell, I wouldn’t have traded the time with her for anything. I know she’s also free of pain and is probably running around in doggie heaven. I have her ashes in an urn and it’s sitting above the dog food bin so I say hi to her every morning and it’s been a little over a year now. It breaks my heart when people say that dogs or any other animal for that matter don't have feelings or don't have the capacity to feel certain things the way we do. All it takes is to look at an animal to understand that yes, they can. Some people treat their pets like a toy or like their property. I mean, I understand that yeah, your pet is your property to a certain extent but they still should be treated just as you would want to be treated. Please don't get an animal if you even think for a second that you might not be able to handle it because like he said in the video, there's too many animals in shelters and a disgusting amount of them never leave there alive. Actually most of them are given a time frame of adoption and if they aren't adopted in that time, they get out down. So please take care of your pets, they love you unconditionally and expect nothing but love in return. They deserve so much better than a shelter or someone who doesn't care.
I'm pretty sure they can't feel piety or existential nihilism or things like that. But pets absolutely should be treated like property, that doesn't mean you don't care about them. Just that the owner is the owner, the pet is the pet. Dogs have all kinds of different expectations from their nature and instincts, that's why the authority of the owner has to come before everything else, to keep dogs from doing things like attacking people or other animals or destroying things or even just pooping on your carpet. You only get the real kind of love (not based on attention, treats and petting) if you develop the right kind of relationship.
It makes me angry when I hear anybody trying to sell that lie. The critters we take responsibility for are like perpetual children, they are at our mercy and deserve to be treated kindly and humanely.
“Dogs come into out lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog. It merely expands the heart.”

Negative reinforcement can work when you find the problem immediately and it’s fresh in their mind. Discipline is important for forming a trained dog, but obviously if you wait too long to scold them they won’t understand. You have to either catch them in the act or find it soon after, otherwise scolding won’t work. But it can.
I mean sure it can, but positive reinforcement has proven to be more efficient. So why “discipline?” I really think “discipline” is used more for the owner getting their frustration out, rather than the training itself. I’ve seen both methods used & 95% of the time, training using discipline just taught the dog to be more sneaky about what they want to do. While positive reinforcement made them happy & eager to do only what their owners were pleased with. If that makes sense. 🙂
@@knotsoangelic people think dogs are never wrong & that being stern with them is so mean ): they’re animals for Christ sake & if they don’t listen or aren’t trained they can do something foolish because they obviously aren’t beings of reason. There's no such thing as forced socialization for my dog. He wants to meet everyone. Everyone! He gets upset when he doesn't get to say hi to everyone he sees....well I guess there is forced. He forces us to have him socialize with everyone.
My dog is the same as yours! He always wants to socialize, but most people are scared of him.. And he's a little over energetic so his moves are mostly unpredictable.. But he would never bite someone.. actually he doesn't know how to bite someone at all! 😂
Sounds like wrong training when he tries to greet everyone when you are outside and you are not even talking to them. When they come into your house thats something different.
So glad you didn’t mention hugging and kissing your dog. I get so annoyed when people say that dogs don’t like hugs and kisses. Both my dogs come to my husband and I and smash their faces against our mouths to get kisses. They both love them and they both even reciprocate, licking us on our faces and my older dog will even hold my face and lick my head. They also lick each other in the face often. As far as hugs go, my younger dog will come to us and wrap her paws around our necks and hug us. I never force a hug on either of my dogs or squish them when they do hug us.
Your dog's "hugs" seem like a possessive behaviour. It's the way dogs protect their property (you in this case). Even if they seem friendly to you, it may be not the case. You need to pick up the vibes of other dogs. It may cause jealousy and aggression and it might be dangerous in the future. I don't know your exact situation, but please consult your vet/dog psychologist.
It depends on the dog. I've had/have dogs that love nothing more than being kissed and cuddled, and other dogs that prefer any kisses to be initiated by them, and do not enjoy long cuddles. Like people, every dog has a different personality.
@@liisaks1 the problem is not kisses/hugs. In this case the problem is that the dogs force the owner to give them hugs and kisses and it sounds like in a very demanding way
I agree with this. Obviously some dogs aren't too keen on hugging and kissing, but if it's your own dog, you usually know what they like and don't like. My dog loves hugs and kisses.
I am lucky enough to be able to walk my dog without a lead anywhere. If he wants to stop and sniff, he can. If he takes a long time - so be it. He's a dog and needs to be a dog. We have 2 x 1 hour walks in different places each day. Plus twice a day outside to play ball
I was on the phone long distance when my dog Shuanie started doing what I called "doing the Meerkat" I had to finish the call, my dog was anxious. The Meerkat was his way of asking for something. I have never understood dressing your dog up it's just mean. Unless it is functional to protect a short-haired dog from very cold weather there is no reason to dress them in anything but a collar. I also, don't understand people that go out of their way to buy a purebred dog like a husky and live in a place that is too hot for that type of dog, a dog that needs tons of outdoor activity.

My husband had a life-altering accident and was in facilities for almost a year. I purchased a dog while he was in rehab recovering, and he came home when the dog was around 8 or 9 mos. Prior to that, my dog was the center of attention to everyone in the house. Once my husband came home, it shifted, and we would have all hands on deck to care for him because he couldn't do it. I would close my dog Brodie out of the room so he wouldn't get in our way. And when I would come back into the living room he would have Destroyed some of my husband's personal things! Some were expensive, or valuable. I would place it up high, and Brodie would go out of his way to get it, and he'd rip it to shreds. I was so shocked! We soon start letting Brodie come into the room and gave him boundaries. He was a lot happier with that, and he stopped destroying my husband's things LOL.
Whenever my parents and I argue, our dog will always get in between us and try and sit on top on one of us. Depending on who's being more aggressive in the argument, he'll whine and growl at that person

yep. the dogs were there before i was, and so when i was born, they became like my siblings, and ive had dogs ever since. theyre truly Angels on Earth!
The fact that rewarding a dog is key, and not punishing is very true. But you do need dominance over your dog. This is where it goes wrong all the time, dominance can be done very friendly, without yelling or touching, it's an attitude, body language, no words needed. If you don't have that, big problem.
I love the good tips that you give us to keep our dogs healthy. I have a German shepherd and she takes alot of my time but it pays off when she takes care of our family and is very friendly
It’s good to touch them and be close to them when they are eating when they are puppies it will train the dog to not snap when a child pets it while it’s eating
It's not entirely correct. Occasionally, and I do mean 'occasionally' putting a flat hand between doggos snout and the bowl reinforces who the pack leader is

No. 22 must be for people whose dogs don’t have sensitive stomachs. Mine HAS to eat one brand and mix of food because of she eats any other kind, she immediately starts throwing it back up. Also, why the F&$k is being upset on here?!? You can’t tell people not to ever be upset. More than that, many dogs are trained specifically FOR people with emotional difficulties! Some of these things are good, some are impractical, and some are just plain ignorant.
Logan Dodd he never said you can’t be angry he just said don’t shout at your dog without a reason or show him why your angry and for the food one you can give you dog a lil but of human food with his dog food like yogurt that’s good for them and other things to you just need to look it up but if you have a big dog you can just give him a chicken bone and let him eat his food with it
It's actually not good to change up your dogs food.. their stomachs will get used to a certain brand of dog food and when you change it up randomly it freaks their digestive system out.. I took it more as keep the same brand of dog food but every once in a while include some treats or a good bone with dindin. Not all dogs enjoy it, but some people crack an egg over their dry food for extra protein and it's good for their fur. I am only experienced in raising medium to large sized dogs like blue heelers, german shepherd, or labs so I know nothing about little rat dogs like chihuahuas or fluffy snowball pomeranians diets. There's nothing wrong with giving your dog human food scraps in my opinion as long as they're in good behaviour, and you give it to them after you are finished eating. This establishes an understanding that you are still in charge and it is your choice to feed them something special. There's a fine line between spoiling your dog to where they beg all the time, and treating your dog to where they appreciate it.. You just have to go about it the right way.
The video didn't claim you couldn't be upset. It said that dogs need a proper routine that needs to be maintained even if you have depression. It also addressed how dogs can benefit mental health. I really enjoyed this video because it explained how big of a responsibility a dog is.
Definitely make sure your dog has interactions while eating, you dont want them to become violent because they think someone could be taking their food when they are older

I have a breathing disorder, and my dog always waits for me, she wont leave my side. She goes to the top of stairs and turns around and waits for me even if the door is open.
I like to think dogs' strongest sense isn't smell, but awareness of emotional state. I believe humans can be great at this too, but in our modern culture we don't learn to be conscious of it.
My first dog was like that and if I were sad he would come put his little face next to mine and lay next to me and seemed really in tune to my feelings. My current dog, who I also love with all my heart, has no empathy. If I’m sad or ill or fall down he looks at me like “c’mon lady, I got things to do”. I swear if he could he’d put one hand on his hip and snap his fingers with other. I sometimes think if he had thumbs he’d kick me to the curb. He’s a stinker but I love him and know he loves me deep down in his impatient and self absorbed little heart 😍
It’s actually the same thing. Your emotions formulate into scent. Your dog is literally smelling your emotions and as the leader of the pack they adopt those emotions as their own.
Not letting a dog sniff their environment is like someone putting blinders on you. They see the world through their nose just as we see it through our eyes.
@@jamesvw769 every dog I’ve owned has been smarter than me. I’m learning though. 😄😄
I legitimately thought all these were just common knowledge... Basically, don't treat your pet like a thing, because it's a living creature with a personality
"some breeds of dogs have respiratory issues" Well I guess we won't talk about how human forcibly evolutionised those dog breeds throughout history making them suffer while they exist.
I personally will never get a dog that has been bred like that. I think it would be a mercy to just let certain breeds die out because it’s pretty much guaranteed they will suffer in their old age, and sometimes throughout their whole life in general.
@@loply9724 I’d adopt a dog of one of those breeds, but I wouldn’t buy from a breeder. I don’t think I’d buy from a breeder regardless, but I definitely wouldn’t purchase a pug from a breeder under any circumstances.
The “leave them alone when they eat” one is great but... when you first bring them home, it’s good to be in their eating space to ensure they don’t get dominant. The last thing anyone wants is a young child running up to a dog who was allowed to dominate the dish. Could lead to a bite
Yes it’s good to teach them to be non-aggressive Not just for when a child is around! If they can get possessive around food they can get possessive with other things lol
I think it’s more about not bothering while they eat. If you’re hand feeding or adding to their bowls they don’t mind. My dog got hand fed and his bowl moved while he ate, but we’d add something he liked, like egg, so he associated us grabbing his bowl with something good.
I never hand fed my dog. As a result my dog doesn’t have to be put up a whenever there is a cookout with kids because he won’t take food out of their hands. I try to help people like my parents who can’t see that they teach them things and then punish them for doing it. But I was just like them until I spent everyday with my dog as a puppy (6 months or so) and I was humbled on the regular. I never realized how stupid I actually was lol.
Precisely! We do this with our new puppies, gently pull their tails, their bodies, putting our faces in their faces next to them taking their food from them, rewarding telling them good boy/Girl, putting our hands in their mouth while eating, and bug them all we can, and then having them eat next to other dogs in home, so they know all is ok all the time and to never get mean over eating anything. They will all eat out of the same bowl if we let them. But this video about not bugging them is absolutely stupid!
actually, theres a practical reason for that: they can understand us better when we modulate our tones a certain way, same with babies. it is actually pretty fascinating when you really dive into it!
@@blacklight310 You're right. Using an overly sweet, soothing voice to calm a scared dog during a thunderstorm may actually tell the dog that there IS something to be afraid of. It's like fussing over a very young child who has fallen down. If you fuss like you're worried that they're hurt, the child will cry. If you ignore the fall or laugh it off, the child will get back up without any fuss.
Keep in mind, all dogs are different. When it comes to #23 "dinner time interruptions", it's important for your dog to not be possessive over their food. you don't want your furry friend to attack people who just so happen to get too close, or to fight other dogs for food. To teach them not to be aggressive with their food it's important to interact with them while eating. IE: putting hand in the bowl, petting, pulling the bowl away. Of course, it's important to watch the body language of your dog while interacting with them in this way, don't piss them off. So please be careful and read the situation. I've always trained my German Shepherds this way, in order to make sure they have no aggression issues.
YES My mom (I was young when we got my 11yr pitbull) trained my dog. She trained her not to be aggressive and not to be possessive :) this is something I will definitely take with me when I get my own dogs to raise one day
Had a dog as a pup who suddenly barked and went to bite me when I got too close while she was feeding. I immediately picked her up and walloped her behind a few times. Not too hard but definitely enough to let her know that I was very upset with her. She was very apologetic afterwards, trying to cuddle up to me. She knew she did wrong. Dogs don't like to disappoint their owners. I only resort to those measureals for extreme cases like biting or running out into the road. It's to protect them as much as it is to protect others. It's out of love for the dog not a desire to hurt the dog. Dogs know the difference.
Yeah that needs to be broken as soon as you see that. Because if they ever get a hold of something they shouldn't be eating you might need to get it out their mouth.
Those are exactly the methods you use too. Of course I usually waited with just adult dogs one week before I addressed it. New dogs into the home need to see how the food won't get taken away and knows it will have time to consume the food. Then I start "crowding" them to see their possessiveness about it. If they growl or start to nip. Nipping gets a smack growling gets a loud yell.
Regarding the Dinner Time Interruptions point. During early training right after getting a dog, its really important to interrupt dinner time. Touch the dog, touch the bowl, move it around, take it away etc, this teaches the dog to be less protective over the bowl and the food and trains the dog not to act aggressively if something interrupts or approaches during dinner time or there is a reason to take the food away.
cody. i agree on that point. all my my dogs from the start, putting my hand in the bowl. . a dog should never bite the hand who is feading him/her. But only me or my son are allowed to touch the bowl/food. no one else.and i only touch the bowl/food when it needs to be done. I grew up with Boxers. One of them tryed to bite me when a piece of meat fell on the ground and i wanted to take it. i punished the dog. No i did NOT hit him hard. when the dog was older, and my mother wanted to clean his empty bowl. he showed his teeth, and wanted to bite my mother. She called me, and i came. I only told the dog. ,, dont even try it.,,. and i was the only one, after all these years who could take away the bowl
So true. Thanks for reminding all of this. It helps human owners to be more compassionate to what it’s really like for their pet dog who loves them unconditionally & deserves love 💕 and understanding.
Someone i know will hurt their dog when they think they have done wrong and then tell everyone that the dog was "testing" her temper. I cant explain how much this has caused me to truly hate that person.
Oh my God I just noticed I've been doing most of these things and I feel realy terrible! 😳 I have to use all of these tips a lot and every day thank you for the advice by the way!
About the “putting them away from when come over” you kind of have to especially with my big Labrador. He’s very big and jumpy and all of my friends are scared of every single dog in the world. You have to respect your guests first and make sure they feel safe in your home. Also with the “same food again” you can’t really help it as much since my dogs food is just dry food. But since he was a puppy, occasionally (every 1-2 days or so) I will get him a special treat.
People underestimate a dogs ability to pick up on our emotions. My dog can be off exploring the house on his own and as soon as I start crying, he’s immediately at my side. Same goes for anyone else in the house, he always finds them and tries to help
My german shepherd doesnt do this. She runs away. Or walks away and doesnt want to know anything about it. Shes friendly but shes also very lazy when it comes to training. But shes the most gentlest dog Inhave ever known
If only dogs could speak like humans, millions and millions of people would adopt them like their own child or siblings and get used to understanding them more. And those animal abusers won't be able to escape that easy They'll be caught and punished with proof/witness. The world would be different and a better one, apparently spreading the nature of caring and positivity in humans
I've taught my dog to go outside, do his business and come back in, by having a treat for him when he returns. Granted, he does fake it sometimes, just to get a treat, but I'm not standing around, waiting for him to pick the perfect spot in the middle of the night.
This video should be required for people to watch before bringing a pet into their home! I hope everyone takes the time to watch this video. You nailed it.
We should realise, dogs are sentient beings in their own right. If only we humans understood their language more. They read us better than we read them. If, we were mindful of dogs and their needs, we could better understand them.
Dogs aren’t smart enough to develop a language like humans. The only animals that can do that are us, corvids (crows and ravens) and orcas. Dogs can only really communicate with body language and certain noises like barking, growls and whimpering.
@@wintershock Never the less, they are still able to convey their feelings. That in my book, makes them sentient beings. It's also a fact, dogs read us better through body language then we do them.
search up hunger4words on here. Really interesting stuff, they're coming out with a book soon but basically they kind of taught the dog to communicate using buttons that say english words- and yes, the dog understands what they mean!
I'm sorry for your loss. I still cry occasionally when I think of my 100 lbs lapdog and best friend. I lost him to cancer one month shy of his 11th birthday, just over a year ago.
I agree with most of the points made in this video. Some of those were also new to me so i m happy i got the extra info. One thing i want to mention is about the harness. It mostly depends on the type of dog, but usually races that are strong and stuborn is better to keep them on an ordinary collar untill they are fully grown like 10 - 12 months so they learn how to behave on a walk and then switch to a harness because at that age they are strong enough to damage their neck. Using a harness from puppy age can result in unwanted behavior in walks. And dont get me wrong i m not advising to use chockers and stuff to inflict pain on the dog, but just the regular pull of the leash and "stop" command can work miracles.
I’m crying right now I just want my dog to be happy and instead she’s always stressed and anxious because of my mom and dad constantly yelling at her she deserves better!
Your parents need to be educated..
Don't worry ur dog will feel better If u be close with him/her 🙁
me to,me to.

It’s frustrating when I see owners ignore a their dog when it comes to greet them
Freda Jordan the reason trainers advise that is because when you leave, a dog may get anxious.

That's really smart.. I'm going to try this. It's the same technique used to train a horse to go with the flow.
@@ericah6546
I... did not know that, but its good to know I didn't come up with the idea.
Just those cases where you run into a dog barking for 5-10 mins straight at a passer by, for example.)
Hitting an animal *rarely* communicates what people would think and the only time I've seen even giving a spank to be useful is with dogs that are normally kind but lash out violently to specific things or when there's a lack of understanding as to what they're capable of.
One spank showed "Oh crap... being bigger means that if I do something light... it can hurt."
They were more gentle from then on and they're a happy, affectionate cat now.

I knew she was house trained and it was due to her age. So please ppl, watch out for that and don’t get upset when they get old or have issues. They are family and have to be treated like it.

Wasn't it Steinbeck who said "the more > know people the better I love my dog?"
I believe it.

The fact that rewarding a dog is key, and not punishing is very true. But you do need dominance over your dog.
Good insight
I agree, my pets also have very sensitive stomachs
The video didn't claim you couldn't be upset. It said that dogs need a proper routine that needs to be maintained even if you have depression. It also addressed how dogs can benefit mental health. I really enjoyed this video because it explained how big of a responsibility a dog is.

I like to think dogs' strongest sense isn't smell, but awareness of emotional state. I believe humans can be great at this too, but in our modern culture we don't learn to be conscious of it.
Right?? I know they understand about feeling? And can see in a different light then humans, humans need to be taught empathy, dogs are born with it!

Yes exactly, I don't think the person who wrote this script has any idea how to raise a dog

Doesn’t work with a shy and insecure dog they prefer firm voices to make them feel secure imo
They're responding to your affectionate tone of voice.
Agreed. Trained my akitas same.
Love our doggies with all our heart, they are a gift to us
Yepper!

I'd recommend using a choker on yourself before telling people it causes pain.
