I live in a rural area in India, so we don't have pet shop near by so my dog's only eat home food.
I boil chicken and vegetables like pumpkin, bottle gourd or carrot and mix it with white rice.
Some time add item like eggs, fish and lentils.

      Do you add any salt?
I tend to cook chicken for them in a batch that lasts for a week in the fridge. I am looking for recipes that would taste good and would last a week. I prefer to cook once a week for them.

@@joc7996 Instead of boiling the chicken, cook it on the BBQ in an aluminum pan or something. As the fat of the chicken melts, that will be the flavoring for the dog. Salt is bad for their kidneys. Remember, what you think is tasty because of salt, doesn't taste the same for them.
If you have a Costco near you, get the big pork-loins that are very cheap. I used to cook that for my Bubba again, in an aluminum pan and it would make it's own juices. I even would cut a piece for myself since it tasted that good. With a big pork-loin, you can do a full week feeding your dog. They love the taste of it and it is cheaper than chicken.
I used to prepare all his food using a pressure cooker. I'd go at the grocery store and buy the meats that wouldn't sell during the weekends. I'd get duck, liver, chicken halves, carrots, green beans etc, and put everything in the pressure cooker and cook it for 1-2 hours. By then, even the chicken bones would crush like mashed potatoes. The smell was something else but the taste for Bubba, was heavenly. My dog is a rescue and he was dying due to his condition. Not on my watch. We brought him back to health and now, he weighs over 38 pounds. Hope that helps as far as flavoring.

When I was a kid I gave my chowchow a pork chop, he got diarrhea and we took him to the vet.
The vet (Doc Thompson) just laughed and gave him some meds, said hes Jewish so can't eat pork.
He was the kindest man and very loving to both people and animals, he had that little sense of humor too that relaxed everyone.
He always got his message through with a softly spoken joke.
Also had a vet once that was the sweetest person ever, but he always went "mmmmkay?" almost like Mr Mackey from South Park.
Omg me and my mother, everyone else too had to struggle to not burst out laughing, he could fit in that mmmmmmkayy? In EVERY sentence, eventually we had to cut the visit short out of fear me might laugh and offend him, once in the car we would howl with laughter for probably 10 minutes before actually starting the car to go home.
On our way home we would mention it and start laughing again.
We loved this vet, he was so kind to everyone and what a great doctor to animals too, he just had a funny way of saying things is all.
God bless such great lovers of animals.
Ever notice, many become doctors of people for money and respect, almost all become doctors of animals for their love of them.

8:05 The very best food is raw from reputable sources. Our pups are descendants from wolves so the closer we replicate the natural food of dogs in the wild the healthier our pups will be. When wolves take down a deer, for instance, they will eat the organs first, then the muscles, bones, even fur as well as vegetation in the intestines. Larger dogs love frozen raw food, defrosted, room temperature. Little dogs often prefer dehydrated raw served with lots of spring water. A wolf would not eat any processed or cooked food. A natural whole food raw diet prevents obesity, osteoporosis, cancer and the inflammatory diseases we find in the human population. Respecting the species appropriate diet is the most loving thing we can do for our dogs living their best, longest lives. You'll find some excellent videos and information from Dr. Martin Goldstein, DVM as well as Dr. Karen Becker, DVM.

Some things the videos missed out about chicken. Chickens in the EU and UK are vaccinated against salmonella, however you can also freeze raw chicken to kill bacteria and dogs will enjoy it frozen especially on hot days. 2 Chicken bones are only brittle when cooked, raw chicken bones are okay for them to eat.

A couple of things I'd reccomend, that are great for your dog, and while you're at it, are good for people as well.
The first is Cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper is excellent for your dog, as it improves circulation, heart health, and helps to reduce inflammation, which is great if your dog is older and suffers from arthritis, something an old lab of mine had, and Cayenne pepper helped him with immensely.
I'd reccomend giving it to them in capsule form, and starting off with a low grade first, like breaking open a pill and dumping half of it out, and slowly increase it from there, so their system can adjust to it.
The second thing I reccomend is Chia seeds. You can by some meat, and mix the chia seeds into it, and role it up into a little ball and give it to them, as Chia seeds are a good source of iron, and have other health benefits.

My Havachon's diet started when she was a pup, she simply couldn't tolerate wet dog food dry or kibble, so I started cooking for her. Rice became a base, mixed with yogurt and a bit of cooked chopped chicken, later adding some of what ever I was cooking. and as she healed I just cooked extra for her. She loves steak, calves liver, chicken and salmon. Sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, blueberries, oranges, watermelon, rice, pasta, stir fry, Mexican, Italian most soups and stews stews, poached eggs, but will only eat scrambled with Salsa. She doesn't like cooked or canned beans.🤣🤣 I cook with EVO YES, I've heard all the lectures and read all the recalls! Shine will soon be 18 years old,...she still runs up and down the stairs, loves her walks and riding shotgun. What we eat is a choice, we make several times a day, so make good ones! I'm not feeding her offal and risking her life, we don't have to be victims of advertising. Now they have "human grade" dog food, very expensive!! I can cook ahead and freeze meals of leftovers for her. Nobody, man or beast... gets the needed phytochemicals and nutrients from over-processed foods with preservatives and a few vitamins thrown in. She lets me know when it's dinner time...she comes in the office and wants me to follow her!

My Shih-Tzu couldn't control his bowel because of a anxiety attack he experienced after a trip to the Groomer. His Veterinarian assistant told me over the phone to feed him boiled boneless-skinless chicken and white rice until his stomach settles. A pack of chicken breast (8 pieces) costs between $8-10 per package. Along with a half cup of 'Ceasars' dog food, that one pack of chicken will last about 2 weeks.

My Bubba, the one on the right of my avatar, is a rescued dog. He has megaesophagus. When we got him, he was on his way to die, literally. He weighed less than 25 pounds. We took him not knowing what challenge we were up too. We started feeding him slurries from dog food but that didn't do the trick. I decided to feed him nothing but the best, for a whole year.
I'd buy the biggest pork-loin from Costco and cook it on the BBQ in nothing but its own juices. Once in a while, I'd ask Bubba if he'd like to check with me if it was ready to cut in pieces and he knew his job. We'd go out together, and I'd slice a piece for him and give it to him. We'd do this every 2 weeks, the time it took for him to eat the full loin, twice a day.
Bubba now weighs in at around 38 pounds and is healthy albeit having back problems, giving him incontinence problem. So now he wears a diaper as he doesn't know he has to poop until it is too late but I love him no matter what. I wouldn't kill my grandmother because she wears Depends so Bubba is safe with us. He looks cute in his diaper.
He still has megaesophagus but we know how to manage it and he is a joy to be around with. If we hadn't taken him, he would be chasing butterflies over the rainbow as they don't have a big life expectancy. People who have dogs with that condition, usually have them put down so I get a lot of questions about how to manage it. We even feed him by hand with a spoon and made him burp like a baby!!! Thank goodness those days are behind us but I'd do it all over again if I had too. My boyz are very precious for me.

My dogs enjoy boiled Brussel sprouts, milk, yogurt, rice, cheese, and their doggy chews. The dental chews, although expensive, really help with the teeth and one dog is almost ten and the other almost eight and have never had their teeth cleaned. Vet said "don't need it." Oh, they like bananas too.

Before my old pug passed away she was very sick and had barley any teeth so the vet had us feed her rice, scramble eggs (no seasoning just eggs) and shredded chicken and her medication ofc. One batch of this would last about a few days!

Once, my little sister left a container of xylitol chewing gum and my Mini Aussie got in the counter and ate it all. We rushed her to the vet once we saw what she did and they told us she was minutes away from death when we took her. She stayed at an animal hospital overnight. Luckily she is healthy and with us today, but that was definitely a worrying two days.

Just a caution... my 2 Shih Tzu are spoiled beyond belief. If I have a steak they wind up getting 2/3 of it. They have been on raw and human food all their lives without a single problem. My teacup will eat pretty much any vegetable steamed but my miniature is more cautious. Just a note. I take a meat tenderizer and pulverize chicken bones that come in thighs, wings and breasts. My vet said the pulverized RAW bones are ok.

I feed my Rottweiler a quality dry food in the morning with an egg mixed in. Most afternoons I give him a raw chicken leg and he loves carrots.
Also in the evening he gets a half cup of raw ground beef with his dry food.
I also give him an omega 3, and glucosamine.
