Dangerous Foods Your Cat Should Never Eat

  • In this video, we will talk about 14 human foods that are toxic to cats.
    Chocolate
Chocolate is a delicious treat for humans, but it is toxic to cats because it contains a substance called theobromine. Humans break down and metabolize theobromine easily, but cats don't.
    Milk, Cheese, and Dairy Products
Although some adult cats may still produce some lactase enzyme, most felines are lactose intolerant, meaning that cow milk and dairy products such as like cheese or cream can upset their stomachs. They may experience anything from mild to severe gastrointestinal discomfort - diarrhea, loose stools, vomiting, stomach pain, or gas.
    Salt
Most human food contains too much salt, and salt isn’t recommended for cats.
Eating too much salt can lead to a condition known as salt poisoning. It causes water deprivation in pets and leads to symptoms like vomiting, fever, diarrhea, excessive thirst, and tremors. In severe cases, it may even cause death.
    Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits contain essential oils and citric acid that can cause problems in cats.
Cats can also experience skin irritation if their skin comes into contact with citrus fruits. And even simply inhaling citrus essential oils, or any other essential oil, can cause problem to cats.
Raw or undercooked meat, eggs and fish
Raw fish, raw eggs and raw meat can contain bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli that can be harmful to pets. Cooking to a safe temperature kills off those harmful bacteria as well as any possible viruses.
    Bones
Cooked bones are a serious danger to felines because they can splinter and get stuck in a cat's throat or stomach.
    Avocados
Avocados contain a toxic substance called persin, which is perfectly safe for human, but can cause serious health problems - even death - in many animals.
    Grapes and Raisins
Cats should never eat grapes and raisins. These fruits are known to be extremely toxic to cats. Grape toxicity in cats can cause serious kidney damage that can lead to sudden kidney failure, which can be fatal.
    Hotdogs
Your feline friend would probably love to chow down on a hotdog. But is that a good idea? Many hotdogs contain ingredients that are not good for cats, such as sugars, artificial sweeteners, and unhealthy saturated fats that they cannot process. Hotdogs also contain seasonings, such as onion powder and garlic, which are toxic to cats. And the biggest problem with hotdogs is salt.
In fact, all processed meats are unsafe for your feline. These products contain a significant amount of salt, fat, chemical preservatives, and added spices which are bad for your cat's stomach
    Tuna
Most cats love tuna to a fault. Tuna is very tasty, perhaps much tastier than your cat’s kibble. However, cats can become addicted to tuna. Some felines, when given tuna on a regular basis, will start turning up their nose at their regular cat food, hoping you will give more tuna instead.
    Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are very toxic to cats. These nuts are often found in baked goods, cakes, cookies, muffins, and even trail mix. Make sure to keep these foods away from your pet.
    Caffeine
Any beverage that contains a hint of caffeine is a big no-no for your cat.
Caffeine over-stimulates a cat’s nervous system. It causes their heart rate to increase to a dangerous level, and their blood pressure skyrocket.
    Alcohol
Alcohol exists in many products we wouldn’t realize, such as mouth wash, perfume, cleaning products, and hand sanitizers. Make sure to keep them out of reach. Even the smallest amount of alcohol, such as found in cough syrups, medications, and raw bread dough, are poisonous to cats.
    Raw Yeast Dough
If you’ve ever made bread from scratch, then you know that dough has to rise. When a cat eats bread dough, the yeast in that dough can expand in your cat’s belly and cause a lot of pain and bloating. This can cause a cat’s stomach to twist, which can turn into a medical emergency. There is also a risk of alcohol poisoning since yeast produces alcohol during the fermenting process. Make sure raw dough is out of your feline’s reach at all times.

Raw meats are perfectly fine, just try and get free range so it doesn't have antibiotics and hormones. Feeding my cat raw minced beef saved him from death once and he regularly gets raw chicken as a treat. My kitten as well. Milk is fine in small amounts but it's best not to give it to kittens just in case it upsets their delicate digestive system. Fish is alright in small amounts but it's safer to stay away from it because some cats can be allergic to it. This includes fish flavoring. Also definitely keep away from potatoes for both cats and dogs.

I had one cat who was soooooo bonkers for mandarin oranges that you buy in a can or the little fruit cups. She would almost attack me when she'd see me eating them. I never knew they were toxic, and she'd regularly get some of my mandarins cuz I use to crave them when I was pregnant with my 1st child. They never bothered her tummy, and she was never gassy. But I guess every kitty is different. Maybe she had some kind of disorder or lack of a certain vitamin, but I've never seen another cat in all my life act that way towards that kind of orange. She never bothered regular fresh oranges. Just the mandarins! Well all I know is she lived a good long life, and that I miss her all the time. We had so many good times together. So if you ever acidentally give bad food to your cat, don't be too stressed. But anyway, always make sure to check if there's bad food for them cause some of cats aren't able to sniff so they couldn't know if it is bad or not.

I think it's all highly dependant on the cat. Just like some people are lactose intolerant and others aren't the same is seen in cats. My cat used to have fancy cheeses with my Dad everyday (we cleared it with the vet) and my cat had no issues.
He would steal brownies from us too and it never bothered him. His favorite treat was actually raw spicy Italian hot peppers. He had an iron stomach (lived to be 20).

Fun fact: Did you know people who aren't lactose intolerant, actually have a mutated gene that allows them to eat and drink dairy? I just found that out a while back, and it's something our ancient ancestors passed on to us! So basically we are all supposed to lay off the dairy! That would suck cuz I love dairy products, but they don't always love me back. Lmao!

If Tuna is so bad for Cats, how come it’s the number one ingredient in most Tinned Cat Food ( look on your supermarket shelves and on some of those shelves in specialty Pet Warehouse shops. At least three quarters if not two thirds of the tinned Cat Food on those shelves have Tuna in them. Either as the only protein ingredient or in combination with other protein ingredients....... Yes Tuna meant for human consumption isn’t good for your cat but Tuna that’s packaged for Cats is OK for your cat because as in most Cat Food you buy there’s added vitamins and minerals ect. One of the most important one being Taurine............. In this post there was one food that didn’t make to this list but should’ve. And that is Raw Chicken. Raw Chicken has salmonella and other bacteria that could not only make your Cat sick but could potentially kill your Cat due to food poisoning. Why? Because domestic felines have evolved from their once wild ancestors. Certain bugs and bacteria that their ancestors could tolerate and be immune to, our modern domestic felines, increasingly, aren’t immune to. In large part due to formulated diets but in very small measure simply due to the imperative to evolve to survive......... ⚛️☮️🌏

Details are important. Pay attention. He said tuna is good for them, but they can become addicted to eating only tuna, and tuna by itself, does not contain all the nutrients that a cat needs. The products you speak of, all contain tuna, which is good for the cat, but those products also contain many nutrients that tuna alone does not. So, as he said. Be careful not to get your cat addicted to eating just tuna.

So I mixing the kitten and indoor formula and the kitten and stomach and digestive aid formula. When she becomes an adult she will just get the tummy and indoor formula foods. My vet didn't recommend this to me. It has helped my cat though as she has out lived what the vet told me she'd live. My vet is now telling other cat owners to do this. OMGosh my3 cats have been eating avocados almost every day for several years? I am a vegan and eat avos every day and they love to eat what I eat. What about lactose free low fat milk? They like that, and yogurt lactose free. They love all steamed vegetables like corn, beans, potatoes even garbanzo beans and cabbage. They do have a small amount of butter on them. I thought the fiber would be good to help with the dry food. I give them 1/2 dry, 1/2 wet. They do have oil on them. I do not eat gluten so neither do they. They don't seem much to vomit but they do occasionally.

You can give them cat milk or kitten milk witch is found in supermarkets or pet shops especially formulated for cats ! Or just water is adequate!

So now Avacados are off limits for cats? Well, this differs from what Jackson Galaxy says in one of his videos on this topic. He makes it clear that ONLY the fruit and no other part of the Avacado (( in very small pieces, not often )) is OK. But while I agree with the dairy products are off limits, I have a very determined, charming 3 year old female with a case of Pica that my Veterinarian will not address, and she will beg like the dickens when I have yogurt. She only gets the tiniest dab on my finger very rarely so I just give in......good advice all around though.

I feed my cat one day fully pigeon meat; next day fully duck meat; next to next day fully country chicken meat without hormone ; next to next to next to next day fish ( all varieties of fish but per month per variety) ; next to next to next to next to next day quail meat mixed with quail egg; next to next to next to next to next day rabbit meat that full day.
All meat after cooking only. And give her like soup along with the water she lives it. She will sound while drinking the soup part "surrrrrrrrrr sound"
My vet suggests to add a pinch of salt & pinch of turmeric powder to the cats food while cooking. He told every living beings needs salt for maintenance of blood pressure and proper functioning of kidneys. He told even plants need nacl. I've been giving the food as prescription and till today she is healthy. Now she is 11 months old.

I find it hard to believe that adult cats shouldn’t have milk. When I was 10yo, we had a cat (about 7yo) who was attacked by a big dog, and her foot got infected from the bites. For weeks, the dumb thing wouldn’t eat and would barely drink any water. The only thing we could get her to consume was milk. Not just any milk though… it had to be milk with strawberry flavoured Nesquick. She lived on the stuff for a month and a half before her foot was good enough to walk on. She started eating soon after that, but she didn’t want to switch back to water. She lived for at least another 3 years after that.

Those foods could cause dangerous kidney issues in a few years, and the cat's kidneys may be permanently damaged by the time the symptoms become obvious. Or those foods could cause urinary tract infection, which can quickly kill a cat.
