I don't know how anyone could not appreciate this performance. I saw SRV 3 times and got to meet him once at Amherst Ma in 1984 and he struck me as a real good guy who only would have approved of this show. Good music is good music, doesn't matter who is doing the playing!!!
Im a huge fan of SRV...he Is my fav. guitar player...Brian is one of my favorites...and I love this....they are havin' fun and that's real showmanship....Marty and Brian are both great guitar players and whats wrong with them showing some appreciation....Also the haters out there need to think about it...so negative. either you like it or you dont. NO NEED TO ACT LIKE ASSES ABOUT IT!
Exactly!! Life's too short to be all negative about most things! Just enjoy these amazing musicians, or get to steppin' (out the door). Trust me, nobody's gonna miss you!
I saw Brian Setzer in concert about ten years ago. That guy can play circles around most anybody. He's easily one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I would love to see Marty in concert, but it'll probably never happen.
I love both of these guys and they're each great in their own way at what they do. This is the first time I've heard this, and I gotta say that it's a match made in Rockabilly Heaven if there ever was one. Both possess peerless musical pedigrees, and they're both still out there kickin' ass! If either one comes to a town near you, I strong suggest you go get yoursself a ticket and see 'em. You won't regret it, and I guarantee you'll leave smilin', nummin', andf snapping your fingers from the righteously fine grooves that took place!
I have had the pleasure of working with Marty Stewart many times in my life as I worked in the country music industry as an audio engineer for 30 years. he is a class act. an extremely nice guy, one of the best players you will ever see and can sing as well as all of his band members. No drugs..clean and sober always.
Met Setzer walking about town just before his Christmas show last year, very unassuming and down to earth dude. If you have not seen Setzer play in person or with his "big band", I highly recommend it. Personally, I am just glad that someone remains so passionate about playing this style of music...
Great band. Marty is country but rocks beautifully and Brian Setzer rocks and rocks and rocks. Marty Stuart did a tv thing with John Mellencamp that is pretty darned good too. Thanks for the post and Marty and Brian!!!
I was there! - They did a double-show-taping (for Live with Ricky Skaggs) at Ryman Auditorium that evening: George Jones w Elvis Costello & Setzer/Stuart. They did multiple-takes on some songs...and it was all free.
omg, you lucky _asturd you. I'm envious. how cool would that have been? I bet you'll never forget that. I have concerts I went to back in the day that go down in history and I kept the ticket stubs and the place I saw almost all of them is now torn down, but I can't even imagine what you saw there!!!!!
Comparing Musicians is mindless: kind of like comparing snowflakes. Just enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of each one because they melt away too quickly and we are left with only memories.
Let me tell you something Marty Stuart can play several instruments very well and Brian Setzer is a real musician who scores his own big band numbers, that being said I'm a SRV fan and loved his music dearly but these guys are in the same league and Stevie would be the first to say that himself. Stevie admired other musicians, was a humble guy and would've been tickled to meet these guys,if in fact he hadn't. He didn't have a jerky stuckup bone in his body.
I need a wish granted: bring back SRV and make him have a concert with Brian Setzer. Not sure what would come out, but definitely would kick major ass!!
I would love to meet that dude because I have a ton of questions about the old days and Lester Flatt and his times at Bean Blossom and just so many things to ask him about. He should do a share a beer series, and I get to be the first guest. I would just ask questions, I wouldn't try to play guitar with him or something cheesy like that, I'd keep it real and we would just drink beer and do shots for about 4 hours. I'd start out with Jimmy Martin and move to the Stanley Brothers and wherever else he would allow me to go like the Johnny Cash years, etc.
I do remember the one with Darius Rucker. CMT Crossroads. Always liked how he had hits with Hootie and The Blowfish, then re-invented himself as a country-western artist...and had more hits.🙂 I think he was around in the mid-to-late '70s, somewhere in that ballpark, but I first John Mellencamp in the early '80s; "Hurts So Good" and "Jack & Diane". So many hits from that man. "Pink Houses", for crying out loud!(lol). I forget the name--I'll go look it up in a sec--but I heard it on that Crossroads: "I got my trailer picked out... I'm moving it down to Grandview..."(I looked it up(lol)). "Back it on in there, boys, and don't get no mud on my front porch, 'cause the son of a bitch is brand spankin' new...".😀
makes me wish i could just pick up some drum sticks and play and gosh darn i LOVE that guitar of Martys thanks to Clarance's widow for letting us enjoy it
Hey Guys, Marty Stuart is performing on September 3rd at FAIRfest in Fairfield Iowa. Tickets just went on sale, get yours at fairfestiowa.com Looking forward to seeing you all this Labor Day weekend!! -FAIRfest Team
When I stumbled across this I knew there would be some SRV fans who'll criticize. SRV was great, but this version is cool too! Would have been great to see SRV on stage with them, but I'm sure he was there in spirit. I also love the youtube video with SRV & Jeff Healey playing "Look at Little sister" I love SRV, but Jeff blew him away on that one!
You do know that Stevie was giving Jeff the spotlight. No one more humble than SRV. The only story I've ever heard about Stevie getting upset is when himself and George Thorgood was playing for Chuck Berry's birthday party and George wanted to go out on stage and blow Chuck away. Stevie told him if he tried anything then he would blow George off the stage. George fell back in line FAST !!!
makes me think of SRV. I have no bad things to say about how its done here, but i'm going to say I like SRV's version of this. and he doesn't need a whole 15 or so people to make it sound full. i'm just sayin'.
Bryan tearing up his Gretch and Marty playing Clarence White Tele. Marty paid 12 hundred for that guitar and he had to learn how to play it for its unusual modifications. Quote Unquote.
@danocatster Setzer recorded it later, and with many more instruments. Brian is an exceptional guitarist. And he has done a good version of this song is not to detract from the version of SRV. Two guitarists with different styles, it is not necessarily comparable.
I don't know how anyone could not appreciate this performance. I saw SRV 3 times and got to meet him once at Amherst Ma in 1984 and he struck me as a real good guy who only would have approved of this show. Good music is good music, doesn't matter who is doing the playing!!!
Saw Marty in Calgary years ago, fantastic. Both of these guys are amazing.
Such a great version of this song. Stevie Ray Vaughn would be so proud to be rocking that house. A blast to dance to!!❤😊

blazvignater having fun is for sure wish i could play drums with those guys what a kick and love that old B_Bender guitar
Exactly!! Life's too short to be all negative about most things! Just enjoy these amazing musicians, or get to steppin' (out the door). Trust me, nobody's gonna miss you!
Nash1965H I couldn't agree more. Enjoy!
Those two are great!! They can sing and play. What a great duo.yiu can tell how much they like playing together. Keep playing
I saw Brian Setzer in concert about ten years ago. That guy can play circles around most anybody. He's easily one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I would love to see Marty in concert, but it'll probably never happen.
Circles around anybody..lol. That is funny as heck. Go learn to play, the think again.
To bad rolling stone disagrees
Marty’s white hot live and so are the Fabulous Superlitives. Catch them if you can, you won’t regret it, and Marty’ s real nice too.
I know that feeling
Yeah Rolling Stone don't know shit. Bunch of lefty writers over there anyway's. Setzer is at least top ten..
Love these 2! Marty is having so much fun!
I love both of these guys and they're each great in their own way at what they do. Wow. My wife will be thrilled. Thank you. Have a great day/night guys and gals. ✌
He's best in concert.
No one compares.
He's so good on guitar the greatest
Saw Marty and the Superlatives earlier this year in Scottsdale. Still the hottest live band around. They blew the roof off!
Met Setzer walking about town just before his Christmas show last year, very unassuming and down to earth dude. If you have not seen Setzer play in person or with his "big band", I highly recommend it. Personally, I am just glad that someone remains so passionate about playing this style of music...
mike ratliff his guitar looks a lot like the one the late Eddie Cochran played
Yes he's a humble cool dude.
Great band. Marty is country but rocks beautifully and Brian Setzer rocks and rocks and rocks. Marty Stuart did a tv thing with John Mellencamp that is pretty darned good too. Thanks for the post and Marty and Brian!!!
Unbelievable talent.

and i quote The great Stevie Ray"Theyve seen it all for years and got nothin to lose so get down on the Floor, shimmy ;til you shake sumpin loose"
That bass guitarist is amazing let alone it's an amazing song. Rip Stevie Ray Vaughn.

The King of the Blues is B.B. King. Always has been .Always will be.
I was there! - They did a double-show-taping (for Live with Ricky Skaggs) at Ryman Auditorium that evening: George Jones w Elvis Costello & Setzer/Stuart. They did multiple-takes on some songs...and it was all free.

I need a wish granted: bring back SRV and make him have a concert with Brian Setzer. Not sure what would come out, but definitely would kick major ass!!

I met Marty Stuart..guy is cooler than a ice cube rock on brother

Oh yeah I'm feeling the beat!
Damm that's fun!
What a team! Marty Stuart did a crossover (I think) with John Mellencamp a few years ago and they rocked! I think Marty can play with anyone!
I do remember the one with Darius Rucker. CMT Crossroads. Always liked how he had hits with Hootie and The Blowfish, then re-invented himself as a country-western artist...and had more hits.🙂

That works well because I’m the late 80s when Brian made a few solo albums he used Mellencamps band
makes me wish i could just pick up some drum sticks and play and gosh darn i LOVE that guitar of Martys thanks to Clarance's widow for letting us enjoy it
Saint Marty.
Good Lord! Marty Stuart and Brian Setzer on the same stage jamming on an SRV song!?! This is like a dream I once had…
Hot Damn!! There's smoke coming out of my speakers. Whew....!!!
Wonderful stuff.
I'm an old road dog myself and I just sat here and smiled!

wish I was the drummer up there on stage they ROCK
great music marty the mullet king
this rocks
I like the 2 banjo tuners on Marty's guitar!
it's Clarence Whites old telecaster, it has two benders on it as well as the back tuners!
I have played with Marty's guitarist a few years back when I lived in Denver. He's great and prefers flat wound strings on his tele...
+Mel Lockhart and it rocks
WOW! Them cats can flat ROCK!!
très bon !
Splinters flyin off dem guitars......

Glad you passed the audition.

*speechless*
The BIGGEST hair with the BEST musicians !!!
Невероятно!
Wow I respect Marty even more that he did Stevie Ray Vaughan song 🎼🎸🎸🎸
Marty can play anything with strings . I expect that he could play Mozart using only a mop.
Briams guitar reminds me of the late Eddie Cochrans
Fitting, considering he played Eddie Cochran in 1987’s La Bamba.
Marty is good with anybody. They have the same good hair too
How much fun was that?!?!?!?!!!!!
You got yourself a 'quake!
I swear I just saw smoke coming out of my speakers!!
Rckin', shakin and bakin'!!!!!
Pelkkää rautaa, great!
