  • First modifications on the E36 M3 3.0 are starting off modest, a tweak here and there, so as to not ruin the ride and comfort of the car too quickly. During the endeavour, we find some essential suspension repairs are needed.

    Thank you. 1999 328i no bump stops. Front struts bottom out every bump. If that does not help, guess new struts are next. Love taking front end apart every week. At least bolts are not rusty.

    The topmounts you show are fine =) The M3 Topmounts were intended to increase caster and decrease camber compared to standard e36s. I have the M3 topmounts mounted to the opposite sides to get more camber. The arrow must always point forward.
    Check the lower outer balljoint, its a weakpoint, also check allignment and camber (Tapemeasures and anglefinder).
    Camber can also be finetuned by adding washers between the lower two shockmounts to the wheelcarrier.

    Nice video , on the evo you can put the left top mount on the drivers side and vice versa to get about 2.5 degree of camber and slightly more castor . Nice to hear another Scottish accent on RUclips too , where are you based ?

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад

      Hello sir, I'm a little further north and east than you (I follow your e36 content 😉) - near Newcastle. I'd like to investigate if the evo mounts can be used on the 3.0 - I believe the evo has slightly different lower arms and non eccentric lollipop bushes, so I'm not sure if the top mounts alone would be transferable.

    Nooooo! From the video I thought this was /your/ E36 with the whole kit and shebang! Nevertheless, very interesting so far, wondering if these are what's causing my own E36 to go cling! or CLACK really loud when I go over a bump and etc, despite having installed new shocks, could be no rubber bushings left but I've got other priorities at the moment before doing something so large, but I digress, sorry for going off topic. Glad to see videos from you again Pamo!
    Take care!

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад

      A Cling or clack would be more indicative of a ball joint or something loose than bump stops. As I've clearly now learned, running a 36 without bump stops just makes the shocks bottom out with a nasty thud.

    Top video as always bud, the Ultra Racing brace looks sweet! I got one of the really early style Xbraces, the ones that're literally an undertray. Went to fit it last summer and it fouls the M3 manifolds 💀💀💀

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад

      That sounds like a pain in the butt Ross... I'd considered one of them but decided against it. Looks like the right idea.

      @@ManSeeksCivic the normal Xbrace fits right? I may get one of those, I'd rather sell on the undertray style one than modify it

    Diff oil looks wrong if it has an lsd . Should be 75-140. Castrol syntrax lsd

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад +1

      I've read about syntrax and I agree it seems well used across the car community. B373 is designed for limited slip diffs and I have read very good things about it also. We decided to give it a try.

    Why would you choose aftermarket brace over stock one? Stock brace is a lot stiffer.
    Looks like it’s time to pull rear subframe and replace all bushings in rear end :)

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад +1

      Just wanted to try the aftermarket brace, also finding a good oem one is getting expensive now.
      Well spotted regarding the rear subframe, this winter Natalie will be going the whole nine yards to refresh the diff carrier and bushes.

    Lovely motor mate. I know its a bit more money, but have you thought about the Bilstein B12? Shocks go with the Eibachs. Also, sport shocks need the shorter bump stops, not sure if this helps?

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад +1

      Check my other videos Fergus, I run the b12 kit on my modified 328i so naturally it was considered. This was just a cheap quick swap for my partners car, literally beer money that's really a bit of fun.

    Looks like this brace takes so much of a car clearance. Also X design is less prone to deformations compared to rectangle/rhombus that kinda folds…

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 года назад

      Agree on the shape, the exhaust is still the low point of the car. I'd also add that the single mounting points could be a weak point.
