- I penned these lyrics during that horrific day and week following the September 11th attacks on our World Trade Center and Pentagon. Like everyone across America, I was overwhelmed with sorrow for those innocent Americans murdered that day, some of who were my friends. As so often happens with such heart-felt losses, the sorrow gave way to anger; the anger gave way to the desire for vengeance. "Terror they wield, dark holes their shield, hoping we will yield." How terribly wrong they were; how little they knew of America; how little they knew of a people living in Freedom; how little they knew of our faithfulness. "Don't they know we'll stand fast, next to those who have passed." Ten years later they've most certainly learned -- "Free Men will not yield!"
The performance of "Men of Freedom" can be seen and heard on the DVD and CD "Stand Ye Steady - Songs of Courage and Inspiration" available at www.standyestea... (in 5.1 Dolby Digital) and honoring all US Armed Forces past and present. Directing and video editing by Doug Coppi of Curtain Call Productions, www.curtaincall....
As a woman of Welsh heritage, I say a hearty BRAVO! This is a wonderful Yank version of Men of Harlech. Your moving lyrics do the tune great credit. Well done!
Thank you for this wonderful tribute. You are so right. The horror of 9/11 served to unite all of us against the insidious efforts of terrorism. Free men - and women! - will not yield.
i will always remember this day. i lost 17 members of my union . My wife just walked in the 2016 tunnels to tower. May GOD HELP US IN OUR QUEST TO DO RIGHT IN THIS WORLD OF MAYHEM
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! ❤🙏 Peace on earth good will toward men! Bravo!!👏👏
It is 15 years now. The horror of that day was no different from that of my parents on December 7, 1941. At least they could put a name to the enemy. With the definitions of Victory that ensued. This Hydra will be defeated. Once the identity of those Enemy can be codified into a Decisive strategy to Destroy such. God Bless America, and it's Warriors.
I am a FREE MAN, and I will not yeild.
My dad, Philip W. Ackerman Class of '58 and 4 year member of the West Point Glee Club would be so proud of this. I wished he was here today for me to share it.
this was filmed in the alcove. The pews you see at the forefront are where the chapel choir sits for services. Also if I recall correctly the famous organ of the Protestant chapel (worlds largest?) would be on the far left. Historic place that.
sounds like a song we did back in the 70s glee club days "men of harlech"
Wonderful!
Outstanding!
The first time I heard this tune was watching the movie, Zulu, while a cadet!

Men of Harlech...
Nice version, I must admit.
Starts off really well but seems to wilt a bit as it goes along. Still very nice to hear. We knew this a Men of Harlech when I was younger. Love this club.
Just Perfect !!! Well done guys.
Lovely lyrics. But I don't see your name anywhere; if anything, only an alias ("StandYeSteady"). Would you be kind enough to share your name, O composer?

Thank you
This was filmed at the Cadet Chapel at West Point
A moving favorite. Didn't know the 9 11 connection.
