Little things I’ve added that help me: hanging laundry neatly to dry (helps with folding later, and no ironing), taking out the trash before it’s completely full and/or heavy, putting jewelry back at the exact same spot every time, having a chapstick in every room so I don’t have to look for it 😂 and lastly, I do scary / annoying phonecalls asap, to keep myself from anticipation-anxiety ❤

I've been prioritizing good sleep by not eating certain foods before bed that keep me awake. I also always do my dishes before bed because it feels so much better to make breakfast in a clean kitchen :D

    • @eliona
      @eliona Месяц назад +4

I need to start doing ALL the dishes before bed again. It really does make a difference in the morning, and often the dishes that need a little more effort, are only going to take more time in the morning when I already do not give myself enough time to get the needed things done. The whole if it can be done in 5mins, just get it done thing really works.

I’ve started realizing as I age, late night eating TOTALLY destroys my sleep quality. Glad to know I’m not alone!😅

I have a 3 step check list before i go up to bed
    1. kitchen - counters wiped and dishes in the dishwasher, breakfast bowl and spoon out
    2. clothes - lay out for the next morning
    3. yoga mat - out ready to stretch, if im still half asleep it doesnt compute as exercise!
The less I have to think about in the mornings, the better

"All that stuff used to be money." :D Quite catchy! I used to go shopping as a hobby, either after work on a Friday or just simply doing online shopping in the evenings. Getting more into minimalism and finance but also reflecting on what's important to me helped me to quit that habit years ago and I rarely ever looked back. I keep a shopping list now and am so selective with what I buy. Just a few days ago I visited a major German city with sooo many nice shops I don't have in my little town. I loved to look at the things and beautiful displays but really felt no need to possess any of them. It feels incredibly freeing :D

“Everything has a home”. Such a great principle. Example… I was considering buying a new kitchen appliance, and when I thought about the fact that it might have to ”live” on the countertop ( unless I purge to find space in a cupboard), I decided to defer the purchase. I have found myself moving small items from one table/counter to another until I finally realize that IT NEEDS A HOME!

Great video! I’m on week 25 of my “no buy year”( with a 5 garment exception ) and that behavior twist has freed up mucho time and energy for hiking & yoga, spending time with friends, caring for my wardrobe and shopping my closet. Also, I invested in a membership at a local yoga studio since April. I have consistently taken an average of 19 classes each month. I feel better, look better and it fits my budget. I am now obsessed with my behaviors and habits that reflect a consumerism that is no longer me. I think that Americans are brain washed to believe that it’s normal to constantly consume. I love the tip -shopping with a plan cause it really works especially at the grocery store and mall. Thanks again.

Habit stacking (ty James Clear!) was a huge one for me. I’m already in the kitchen making coffee every morning, so now I unload the dishwasher while it brews. I want to be writing every day instead of scrolling all morning, so I started taking my coffee into the office instead of drinking it on the couch, and my productivity has soared. Attaching new habits onto older, established ones makes them easier to remember and sustain 🙌🏼

Agree! I saw a great quote saying "social media has turned all of us into hoarders" or something to that affect. Just last night I was thinking about the whole skincare thing and reducing even though, compared to most, I don't have that much. Still too much for me and to your point most does nothing and some does harm. Especially to the bank account. Cutting way back on supplements has actually made me feel BETTER. Thanks for the great tips. Simple is one of my favorite words and I like to apply to most everything in my life.

This video gave me all the motivation I need to stop being wishy-washy with certain habits I keep neglecting! Moving out and having to hold myself responsible for more things hasn't been easy at times, but I know myself and I truly just want to do better for myself. However, my roommate seems to want the opposite sometimes, which makes the process difficult. I'm definitely going to be referencing this video a lot going forward! ❤

not sure if this is helpful to anyone but putting it here, I think exchanging something that is energizing/helps process ones life is helpful when cutting some habit that works against you. For example, adding watercoloring painting even if one is not a great artist is helpful or seeing friends in ways that dont cost money because we might need connection but not the drink and extra expense that might not be satisfying. Shopping is an odd addictive activity because it symbolizes so much that it isn't so its kind of a heckling trickster. the guilt of waste can keep keeping it around. What has helped is giving any newish clothes to domestic violence shelter who often house whole families that leave in the the middle of the night with nothing. As I get older, I cant handle the extra stuff to take care of but I do enjoy some objects. And its not easy to find something that might be satisfying. I have shifted to putting more money into nutrition than more clothes. Sometimes I toy with the idea of some really exciting object versus small ones that are wasted because I bought them on sale and thought I might enjoy them but really expose myself as cheap and afraid to buy the thing I really want. I also found with myself that I am spooked and won't use something I paid too much for, and I am not sure what that means but it's meant I may not need to buy the item I really want because I can't handle the actual price or feel guility the money towards that item.....Lately before I buy I literally ask myself if I think I can actually enjoy the thing or it would help some level of satisfaction. Usually, it doesnt because I do not have the space and then I am constantly expending energy to cleanse stuff so I can see what I have. I just value my time and energy more than this stuff. My suggestion with the watercolor was because I have noticed shopping takes my creativity and lessens my imagination so I am seeking to make a space and activity to help me process myself and grow imagination. Just an idea, I have noticed when dislodging from an addictive habit it helps to add something that helps to bridge you back in the right direction.....

Thank you for this! Your video resonated with me on many levels. I especially loved tips 8-11. Showing up for yourself and treating it like it’s your job is huge. This is an important lesson I’ve come to realize as I’ve been adulting for many years now. If I don’t set my boundaries, other people will set them for me. Leading a more intentional, wellness driven life has taught me taught me that getting my priorities in order is paramount.

Nice to consider the No Buy periodically. You mentioned this as well in an earlier post and I have started it this month - a challenging month given 4th of July, Nordstrom half yearly sales galore but so far I have survived the 4th of July sales weekend. Its actually kinda nice not to see a constant stream of packages coming in the door as I would feel a weird combo of dopamine hit followed by guilt every time I opened a package.

"All this junk use to be money....so true. If it takes less than 5 minutes to do a chore, just do it." I've heard you say these statements before and they hit home so I implemented them both. What a huge difference they've made. Next I will try to prioritize fitness.

I work from home and the BEST thing I did for myself was booking my pilates classes at the exact end of my workday (6 pm). This made it easier for me to see it as part of my non-negotiable tasks for the day just as work meetings and other tasks. I do not stress about working out anymore and there isn't time for me to start complaining or making up excuses: There is no valid excuse to skip a workout exactly as there is no valid excuse to skip work :)

Morning, Christina! Thanks for these. Yep, the more and more thing just makes me sad and is NOT what i want anymore. I am always happier just not adding unless i really need it. Lots of good stuff here, esp "everything has a home!" That one is huge, and makes me think twice about getting anything else because i don't want to fill that space. ha. Just trying to appreciate what i've got more, and not shop for no reason. The no buys definitely help me, too. Getting in the habit of just not wanting stuff as much. Other things are more fulfilling and fun!
