- S4: EP 2 - This episode is much more than just hunting a few Canada Geese. This is about the history of a legendary waterfowl hunter and conservationist, Jack Miner or “Wild Goose Jack”. The Jack Miner Sanctuary in Kingsville Ontario is one of the first places in North America where a wild bird was banded for the sole purpose to retain information from its migration. The passion, dedication and respect Jack had for all waterfowl and birds has never been duplicated. In this episode you can see the grounds where it all started, and what they are still doing to make a difference.
We also head out a hunt for early season honkers about 30 miles or so away from the Kingsville to try our luck on a few birds. We do get lucky enough to harvest a few birds and a few bands and I can tell you I have never seen that much jewelry in one hunt ever.
This is a must watch and the Jack Miner Sanctuary is a must see for any waterfowl hunter!

Omg 😅 I’d die for one! Holy cow!
I shot a double band hen mallard this week. I found your video while researching what it actually meant (I'm not a big waterfowl hunter, a friend took me out). The guys I was with were freaking out! How crazy would it be if my duck was one of the mallards you banded in this video??!?! I took it on the shores of Erie about 37 miles southwest of the Jack Miner facility on 12/6/24.
Wouldn’t be a hunt without some Timmies!
@@Fowledcollective for sure
Mr. Novak had a great 1st goose experience that was a pretty good video
I was lucky enough to take a jack miner bird Sunday honored, goose, usgs band too.
That kind of feels like a person going to the lottery headquarters to help draw numbers and then you win.
Not really.........we were about 35 miles away from the actual Jack Miner facility. If you watch the episode we talk about that. I hunt closer to a refuge here at home where they band. Can't help that.
First!

Triple amazing combination
@@deedraper9796 I was just there for the Tim bits.
Anyhow, I’ve shot a few bands, 17 altogether, a few with neck bands and 1 radio collar…. But have always wished I could get a jack miner band
highlight of my life for sure. I will probably never see another one.
