Public hunter here, in the duck woods, about 30 days a year. Good set of waders, but just like every other wader I've worn, leaks in the seams somewhere in the middle of my second season. Bought these because Joel recommended them, but in my experience, just another leaky wader.

I have been using high and dry for three seasons. I purchased them after hearing Joel talk about how good they were. Last year they got a small leak on the inseam by the boot. I do a lot of walk in hunts and usually walk over three miles on a hunt. It looks like the seam is starting to wear from all the walking. I used 3M 4000 and the leak stopped. My only complaint is the shoulder strap and the straight cut at the top of the waders. If you tighten the strap to keep it tight at the top it will cause it to be really tight at the legs. So you have to keep the straps loose in order to walk around.

Joel, thank you for posting this very timely video. Last duck season was just about the end for my current waders and as a result, I have been shopping around. Two of my friends have recently purchased the $1000 brand of waders and I just can't justify that and have been looking at others. Gotta add my 2 cents, after years of buying waders every year like you I finally bit the bullet and got a pair of Simms stocking foot waders……..their GoreTex waders are the toughest breathable wader out IMHO.

A couple years ago, I was excited to try my first pair of HnD neoprene waders. Opening day at midnight, after setting the spread and grassing in, I decided to take a snooze in my boat, with my heater keeping the chill off. In my sleep, I felt a hot spot on my leg, half asleep, I stuck my hand into the hot goo that used to be neoprene….. apparently I roll around in my sleep. Lesson learned…. 3 years on my HnD waters. Honest no bs review.
    1. the fit because I have such large feet (13) and me being skinny they are way too big too much bulk.
    2. The straps over the shoulder don’t stretch they are bulky and get in the way of the mount a lot of times and you have to unstrap one side.
    3. The boots if you have Narrow feet are extremely wide and my foot has a lot of vertical movement the length is true but they are made for “FAT” feet.
    4. The belt just sucks it moves it rides up it’s not comfortable.
    5. The phone pocket sipper broke its a very cheap Chinese thin zipper.
    Pros.
    1. I cross a lot of barbed fences and even been snagged a few times in them. Didn’t tear a hole. The Kevlar is exactly what you need.
    2. The breathable wader when you are doing off season stuff not when it’s cold don’t sweat ya out. Even on long hikes.
    3. They haven’t/don’t leak
I bought these waders cause I didn’t want leaks. Period. They delivered so far. But are they the best. For me I’d say no. They just don’t fit me right. If they fit ya right you got yourself some bombproof waders.

I got my High N Dry waders when you first recommended them. I got a puncture hole from a huge thorn once but that’s not the waders fault. They told me to use that 4200 adhesive and it’s fixed. I want the zippered waders but can’t justify replacing waders that are still perfect. Here’s something to be aware of. I thought the seems were leaking but I got in the pool with them on and they didn’t leak. So I looked at what I was wearing under them. Long story short, I was sweating and they couldn’t could breath. I think it’s because I had a similar breathable pair of wading pants under them. I later heard from another manufacturer you shouldn’t do this. I now wear wicking layers next to my skin. And add layers for the temp. Early season in NC can be warm so sometimes I only have the lightest base layer on and nothing else or very light weight fishing pants. As it gets colder I’ll add warmer bad layers and the LL Bean wool guide pants. I stay dry and comfy.

Well I believe I am the minority here. But me and my friends have had nothing but issues with the HighNdry waders. It wasn't just me or one of friends but several of us have all had leaks within a year of ownership. Maybe us on Long Island just got a bad batch. Who knows. Everybody seems to love them so I have to assume that maybe we just got a few lemons. I'm not knocking the company like I said maybe we just got a bad batch or maybe the salt marsh here is just a little harder on gear. 🤷‍♂️ I wanted to love these waders. I liked what the company stood for and was doing. But unfortunately I didn't have any such luck that it seems many of you have had.

    • @keithlohbc
      @keithlohbc 3 месяца назад

Yea unfortunately, I gave HnD a chance and while I liked them, I did get a pinhole my first year. When you say 'leak proof' you better make sure it lasts at least a season. I hunt about 30 times a year in a salt marsh.
I did patch mine and hope I can go at least most of the way into this season before taking stock again on what to replace it with. I am resigned to the fact that I am always going to be patching. To be fair, a pinhole is something I can deal with pretty easily - it just is an annoyance for the day you discover the leak.
For the record, I've had Cabelas, Frog Toggs, TideWes - nearly 7 in 10 years. That tells you what I've gone through. I don't really trust any of them.

High n dry sucked for me. Leaked in my knees. Leaked in my butt. Sent them back to be patched. Got them back this summer. Went teal hunting and had water in my waders. Rogers seem better for me so far

I bought the zippered HnD breathable and honestly it has been ok. The fit is probably my main issue. Just looks goofy on me. They lasted all last season so there is that. I wish they were slightly more “stylish” in cut and features but that’s my personal opinion. My suggestion is save your money and skip the zip. It is t as useful as I was hoping.

I use stocking foot waders. I used to buy cabelas camo neoprene. Those lasted 3-5 years. Then the evil empire bought out cabelas and discontinued them. I bought a pair of camo Chinese waders and the whole seam leaked chest to feet. I used sealer and sealed them up. Crotch leaks.
I then looked at the camo simms waders and went to order them and the next week their price went up almost $200 to I think was $770 ?
So I bought a pair of bass dash stocking foot waders in funky camo for about $90.. This will be their 3rd season without a leak . They are thin breathable so I stay out of the brush.
In KC area it was warm last year so they worked great. Problem was all my upper camo are coats . Too hot.
Do you have any recommendations for maybe a long sleeve button down in a brown grass pattern ???

I just looked it up, they still make the cabelas super mag waders? That’s my go to wader brand, like you said you can get 3-5 years out of them

I used to buy when cabelas changed hands I don't know if the are made in the same place.
I pretty much don't buy things that are made in China.

I know I'm gonna get cooked for this, but after many years of getting a year or two out of my Drake, Cabela's, Hodgeman, or Lacrosse waders I got sick of it and sprung for the Sitka waders after they had been on the marked for a couple years. I'm on my fifth season with them, and I've had one leak in a heel seam that wasn't my fault and a hole in the back of the leg that was my fault. They are the most comfortable wader I've ever had, but the biggie is that warranty. Both times I sent them in for maintenance or repair they have fixed the problem and either updated the zippers and/or the boots at no extra charge (over the maintenance fee).
I also realize this is a High N Dry commercial, but my buddy tried them and wasn't happy. He said the quality was fine, but they just didn't fit and move well. He went Sitka and also said he'd never look back. I'm sure Chene are good, I've heard the Divebombs are nice (they look almost identical to Sitka). When they get north of $500.00, I'll go with the brand that has treated me right and who were the first super premium Cadillac wader on the market.
    Roast away, boys!!!!

You had to pay over $1000 for the waders and you also have to pay a maintenance fee? What’s that all about?

    • @honkerh8r564
      @honkerh8r564 3 месяца назад

@@swamp_rat_fla1126 It's the maintenance or inspection or whatever you want to call it where you can send them in and they'll go through them and pressure test them for leaks, check all the seams, check the boots, check the zippers......the whole nine yards. You don't have to do it, but I do it about every third year or so just for peace of mind. I don't mind it, and it's absolutely worth it to me. I had some gift cards and rewards points and Rogers had a year end sale going when I got mine, so I'm about $500 into them, but I'd pay full boat in a heartbeat after owning them compared to the other crap I've owned over the years. A wet crotch on opening morning with my third pair of Drake waders leaking out of the box or halfway through the season was the straw that broke the camel's back. That and the two pair of Banded waders that didn't last a year.

I spent $120 on tidwe waders from Amazon I hunted out of for four seasons. Kayaks, walk in, sitting waist deep on a mud stool, boats, walking creeks...all the hunts you can do. Finally started to leak at the seams last season. I got new ones with better insulation in the boots, but I could have fixed them with some seam seal.

Bought a pair of Banded 2.0 Breathable waders a few years ago. Put them on for the first time and walked 30 yards out to my blind in knee deep water. By the time I got there, both boots were full. It angered me so much I threw out everything Banded I owned and refuse to buy anything from them again. Have a pair of Drake Front Zip Breathable waders now (I bought on sale) that have been great for the two seasons I have had them.

Mine leaked in the knees and on a inseam weeks after the warranty very disappointing for that price
Contacted the company they were nice but only offered advice on patching them. They have very little flex in them making it difficult to get in and out of a boat truck or pit blind unless your suspenders are loose. I hunt 3 days a week mostly pit blind. Mine definitely did not fit the commercial fishermen label that these are being touted as.
