Hey all, big shout out "hey all" to fellow apiary ladies. I have a Harvest Right freeze dryer too and one little nugget is to use wax paper on the trays to help clean up and turn around time on the trays. :) I pre-freeze the food items, just to shorten the burden on the freeze dryer. No end to the options. Have fun. By the way, the propolis video inspired me to do the same and to share the information with my fellow bee keepers.
We have had our freeze dryer for almost a year and a half and have kept it going almost non-stop. Probably have at least 3yrs of food stored now. All our garden greens are processed in it, as well as meats, soups, etc. We have a 10 gallon stock pot that we do soups in, and I have lost count of how many pots of soup we have done and freeze dried all of it. My biggest regret is not going for the largest model.
We also freeze dry the blood we collect from all meats to make blood meal for the garden. Also, all banana peals are freeze-dried and powdered for garden plants. Return on investment = never let that puppy sit idle for long. Working on running our 400lbs of potatoes from last harvest through it presently. Mashed, scalloped, cubed pre-cooked, etc. Scalloped seems to take the longest.
I LOVE your Mom!!!!!! Please led her know
I love my Harvest Right. I used to buy some freeze dried foods as I explored whether I really wanted a machine. When I started to total up costs of commercially FD foods, it was a no brain-er to buy my own machine and control what was in the foods. Got mine last May and I'm on load 170 this year. I did use The Honeystead affiliate when I bought.
Don't feel bad Kaylee , I forgot to tell the FD to continue after I loaded the trays . Came back the next morning and I had to restart and finish the batch, mistakes happen & I'm so glad that that machine is forgiving. Bless you guys 🤗
We put a post it on the door latch to remind to close the drain valve.
You can also powder some of your peppers to add the flavor to dips, meat rubs and other items
I always look forward to listening to you two!
A Freeze Dryer is on my list to get.
Your grandparents heights sound like mine. My grandma was 4' and my grandpa 6'2.
I have freeze dried just about everything. I bought it mostly to do our eggs, I’ve done mixed up raw eggs and I’ve done already cooked scrambled eggs, Which is really expensive now to buy eggs freeze dried. I’ve done about every vegetable and I love doing leftover soups (chicken tortilla soup is my favorite) because I always make way to much, and when you want just one bowl of good soup it’s so easy to reconstitute with just hot water. The best thing I found to scoop the freeze dried food up and putting into bags is a squared plastic feed scoop that has flat sides it works pretty good. I bought a couple just for my freeze dried stuff. Love watching your videos ❤
I hope to get one of these someday...thanks for sharing !
Beautiful thank you. I’d love to purchase a freeze dryer one of these days ❤
So glad to see your mom back❤️❤️❤️
I have beef bone broth going right now on mine. It’s so awesome because it takes up so much less space
Oh, Kaylee! You make me laugh! I hope to get a freeze dryer this year. I’ve been eyeing one for years now and I think it time. I could save SO MUCH freezer space! I can’t wait to see more videos!
Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all🤗💜🇨🇦
Nice job on your footage, really enjoyed it
The ice cream sandwiches are good. We’ve had ours for 2 1/2 years now. Honey doesn’t freeze. It will make a gooey mess in your freezer. That’s why you can’t use honey for sweetening ice cream.
The freeze dryer is the best
Hello ladies, nice to see a sign of life again. Nice to follow you in good health. Kaylee, how's papa?
ohhhhh...those bananas!!! pure candy!!!
We use Wallaby mylar bags they have zip seal bags variety of sizes.
Great video ladies! Milk Duds freeze dried are awesome! (a little messy!) Caramels are really good too. Just don't use big pieces because they will end up stuck to the tray above it!!!
Hi love the channel GOD BLESS.
Hello you rwo... I've learned a lot from you I love making stuffed peppers from my garden.
I found a huge sale on poblano and jalapeño peppers. We diced them up and filled 12 trays; 3 loads in the FDer. We are good for those peppers for years to come!
I can't wait for the day I get a freeze dryer. Gonna be a few years. I can see how awesome it would be with preserving my medical and culinary herbs
Freeze dried herbs are a game changer!!!
Love you guys, I bought a freeze dryer because of you. And I'm going to buy another one because I want to.
What’s your favorite thing to freeze dry so far?
Fruit, especially strawberries.
I am so glad you did this video. My sister and I just bought an extra large freeze dryer. Please do more videos on the freeze dryer, lol
I just got the xlg also i'd love to ask you some questions
I LOVE LOVE my freeze drier!! I FD my basil and dill and OMG, it smelled sooooo good!! I started my own collection and have started TONS of medicinal plants. I also FD our jalapenos and WHEW they are HOT!!!
Ice cream sandwiches were the first things we did in ours! It's like eating cookies. We've done milk too, and I want to do coffee creamer to powder.
Freeze drying is wonderful. You need to try lemons, they are great for adding to your teas. We have done lots of herbs: mullein, thyme, basil, mints, etc. Also eggs, if you have chickens this is the way to go. As for Jolly Ranchers and ice cream sandwiches - our granddaughters loved them. You need to give them a try, they are so much fun. Looking forward to doing lavender this year, have heard that flowers retain a lot of their color. Ordered passion flower seeds (from Hoss Tools - thanks to your video) to grow this year - there is something else to freeze dry. Like you two we are experimenting and enjoying what the freeze drier can do. God bless you both.
I was listing to a podcast a few days ago and they mentioned that in about 5 to 8 years there will be a complete supply chain melt down and no food in the grocery stores. Now forsure is the time to prep, great video.
Great video, such an amazing machine REALLY wish I had room in my budget for one lol
Yay, I ate that astronaut ice cream as a kid also (and freeze dried peas), I am definitely getting one eventually (and will use your link), gotta work in space and hubby agreeing 😂
This is so hard to watch and not be filled with envy and jealousy 😭 you are so blessed to have that. It's a dream of mine to get one. 💕 One day. It's on the vision board.
Freeze Right gives away a Freeze Dryer 3 or 4 times a year.
I'm pretty sure that's my only option to own one of these beauties!
I keep entering! 🤞
What a privilege it is to be able to save your own food with the most nutrients still intact.
I'll just keep dreaming! 👍
Hi guys 🤗 those peppers 🌶️🌶️🌶️ are huge
And yummy!!!
Oh I would love to have a freeze dryer. I, also, would absolutely love to learn the difference and nutricinal value of the different colors of peppers. Growing up we always had just green peppers. Since then and from moving around I have discovered and have enjoyed red and yellows and orange peppers...I'm so intrigued! Do tell, if you know!
Love your channel so much! Mahalo!
You know… I’ll have to look that up! I just love adding as much color into our meals!
I wish freeze dryers were available locally here in Australia, there is one company that imports the harvest right freeze dryer but at $10k plus shipping for the medium size it's beyond the scope of most and not quite value for money in this economic climate
Oh wow!!!!!
A lot of Love for you both💋💋💋💋
I really really need one of those!! The older my kids get the harder dinners get! I have 4 teenagers and a 10 year old and they eat a lot lol
I am almost sold on buying a freeze dryer… it’s a pricey splurge but can’t wait until I’m able! ☺️ nice to watch your channel as always
I saw people talking about how they sold freeze dried candy and in like a month it paid for the cost of the freeze dryer 🤯 I am hoping to offer freeze dried herbs this summer as my side hustle lol
Wallaby has heat safe resealable MRE bags
My Hispanic friend told me she makes her children very mad and then makes them go plant her peppers and she swears it makes them hotter! This was told to me 20 years ago so I am saying this is real!
Freeze dry Milk Duds....😂❤🙌
Lol I’m going to surprise my momma with some! Lol
I put my homemade elderberry syrup (made with honey) in my FD earlier today. I'm anxious to see if it turns out or explodes inside the machine!
I like to freeze dry HiChews!! Do a lot of eggs and cheese!! Love my freeze dryer!!
Ohhhhhh I might have to try that!
@@TheHoneystead I cut the Hi Chews in half....sooooooo nummy!!
Hi. Hope you're having a blessed day.
What are the foil bags called please?
Thanks for your time 😊
I just can't get my husband to embrace the cost even with all the money we will save from lost food and it is just the 2 of us but I see all the things I can save for our healthy organic keto, low-no sugar eating lifestyle! Edited to say as a child I remember eating cereal that had freeze-dried strawberries in it and I tried to be the one to eat them out of the box first. So many things I can save!!!
I have a friend that put one on layaway! I haven’t looked into that, but she said it it helpful!!!
Wow your peppers that’s amazing I’ve never grown that many even tho I’ve had many plants , how did you do that ?
I had about 20 or so pepper plants :)
Wallaby has pretty good prices
How do you use or weconcentrate back so we can cook with it😊
I want videos on water-bath canning jelly and jams using honey instead of sugar. And how to use bees wax layer to seal jelly jars. My grandma did both for decades, but I can't find anyone who knows how you do these things. I don't do other sugars.
💛💛💛 I need to make dandelion jelly!!!
How do you keep your freeze dryer Repertoire most efficient? Do you have two sets of trays and pre-freeze load #2 while #1 is in the FDer? Also it’s really expensive but so worth it - you need the Breville Sous Chef with the diving kit. It’s a game changer for those of us who do bulk food preservation and preparation.
Hello
Hey Kaylee… if you put in yogurt does it kill the beneficial probiotics b/c it no longer has enough oxygen or are they just suspended in time like the idea of cryofreezing? I’m thinking those baby food yogurt bites for the littles
Fore fruits and broth at you want to avoid a texture change that comes with normal freezing, do not pre-freeze before putting in your freeze dryer. Like mushrooms, strawberries.
How do you preserve cilantro? I can not stop mine from going to seed, doesn't matter how much I cut them back. I don't use a lot, but when I need it I usually don't have it! Freezing leaves it tasteless, as does dehydrating. I can't afford a freeze dryer. What can I do?
I didn't know you guys worked with Harvest Right or i would have ordered through you...I got the xtra Large ...i am one of the first to get it and WOW is it big....I may be asking if I can call you ...i m still waiting for an electrician to put in a designated out let... we here are backed up for some reason till may every one is remodeling.I guess ..I cant wait to get going.
Barbara
Oh that is awesome!!!!! I have to check out that size!!!
@@TheHoneystead it weighs over 250# and is the size of your dishwasher....I never realized even tho they gave the dimensions just how big...it took my son and his friend and a prayer no one would crash
to get it into our basement and it will never leave now lol
Are banana chips that are dried & crunchy in the grocery stores freeze dried?
How many pepper plants did you guys grow last year?
What would a couple pints of freeze dried honey be like?
Have you ever tried freeze drying honey?😁Could you, would you?😁
I know you don't need to preserve honey, but I am looking for ways to quickly crystalize/dry honey to a solid, after that you then grind into honey sugar/powdered honey. Ive tried my dehydrator and it works over a few days but you have to keep it on low to keep any of the good stuff but I have wondered about a freeze dryer. Ty for sharing your time you two, have a wonderful day.
Does freeze drying the peppers make them crunchy
Name it Petter Pipers pepper patch.
"Peter Pipper picked a patch of pickled peppers"
Do the flavors mix when you dry things together? I've been afraid to dry different things in the same load.
I wasn’t sure either, but no they don’t!! It’s crazy!
How have these freeze driers affected your electricity bill?
Do you recommend the :oil free" pump? It's an extra amount of $1500 but if it significantly adds to the useability, I would consider it.
I don’t have the oil free pump. I have the premier pump and it’s really not bad. I have to change the oil after 30 batches or so and you can filter the oil and use it again.
@@TheHoneystead Thank you for that information! That really is very helpful!
How about if you whipped the honey first then try to freeze dry it ..
I was thinking that and also looking at making honey candy to freeze dry!
why would you freeze dry honey? It never goes bad long as you keep it airtight.
A bad joke alert: At 1:38 Mom said "We ran out of thyme." Well, make sure you grow some more so that next year you'll have plenty of thyme.
Wish I could afford one of those but I live on a fixed income and just don’t see one in my future
Keep an eye out for giveaways!!!! They often do it and I also heard that they do layaways!!! Such a great idea!
Please look into making your own freeze dryer before buying harvest right.
They are way overpriced. The markup is ridiculous.
