    I had my THR in the UK 9 weeks ago, I'm a PT, coach and have a strength background, I needed mine done due to a road accident, and a failed hip reconstruction after the femoral head was shattered, but it didn't hold, so I've just had the replacement, but I also had to have a surgical leg length correction, so the recovery is taking a little longer than yours, but I'm band assisted squatting and working on gait correction when walking - as you're right! your brain tries to hold on to previous movement patterns, as it can't understand that the pain has gone! Well done and thanks for the video.

    I'm 75 and had thr of right hip. I'm in excellent condition and am 2 weeks post surgery walking unassisted, climbing and descending stairs. I still have some swelling and my hip flexor has to relearn how to lift my leg. I take bromelain, nac, astaxanthin, fish oil, vitc and isotonix multi. I have not tried a squat yet. you look great.

    Hey man I’m two weeks out bilateral anterior THR.. I can already tell I’m gonna have ROM and mobility better than ever before. I’m healing up good and off the walker and off the cane. Just did some slow eccentric air squats to a low couch as a box squat, and tried some assisted partial lunges, along with a bunch of adduction/abduction stuff. Yep the flexors are a mess and piriformis is pretty tight, but it’s all coming along! I’ll be doing Fran again soon like you! Thanks for the inspiration!

    I'm 65 and 4 months since posterior approach. I am an avid gym goer and like to lift heavy. I was doing pull ups day 10 and in the gym week 2. I had a screw on my cup so it didn't move. At that point I was doing mainly upper body. I reduced my weights a lot. Lower body using body weight only. I always had surgeons approval. He knew my goals. They say there is an 18% reduction in strength of your affected hip. Building that back up is key. Range of Motion and technique first adding weight second.

    Thanks for your info... I am a candidate for THR at 46 in decent physical shape and it has really left me in the dumps emotionally. I struggle with getting in and out of cars, walk with a limp and now my knee and lower back on the side of the damaged hip is starting to hurt. My quads and hamstrings are sore all the time. At what point did you decide that enough is enough? I am just don't know if I should take the pain for as long as possible and continue to limit my normal activities. I can't run, play ice hockey or do much of the my normal daily chores around the house. How did you know it was time to have it done??? Thanks!

    • @disqusrubbish5467
      @disqusrubbish5467 Год назад +2

      I'm not the poster, but I recognize what you're saying. It's a personal decision, but eventually I think everyone gets tired of the pain (which comes and goes) the limping, not doing the things you love to do, knowing it won't get better on its own, and so on. I'm older than you but still thought about it a long time. The day I was x-rayed (November) I could barely get back to my car from the doctor's office. And then you'll have some good days and wonder if you should go ahead...especially at 46. "Down in the dumps" is understandable. So mine is tomorrow. Since it hasn't happened yet, I can't tell you how it went, but wanted to tell you that what you're thinking and feeling isn't unusual.

    • @disqusrubbish5467
      @disqusrubbish5467 Год назад +1

      Hi, I replied to you the day before my surgery five weeks ago. Here's a tiny update. I had the anterior approach. It went well. At four weeks post-op I looked much like this gentleman. There will be some pain afterwards, but they give you meds if you need them. It's not bad though. Your muscles will be very tight, but that goes away. (They must really manipulate your leg..) Part of my thigh was numb on the surface, but that's much better now. (Not totally gone.) I was so happy none of that really mattered. Recovery is mostly getting strength back in that leg, and stretching to get a normal range of motion. Whatever you decide I wish you well.

    • @bryanbanner6463
      @bryanbanner6463 Год назад

      Mate, I'm two weeks post op and back at work. Get your head around it and get it done. Nate makes all the points I've had with hospital and physio. Most of the research is based on older, less active people. Based on your restrictions, it seems like now is the time to do it.

    • @danny302
      @danny302 Год назад

      @@disqusrubbish5467 Thanks for the update. I have heard that the numbness you describe is a potential side effect. Hopefully it goes away for you totally. Good Luck!

  • @mmmmmaaaaaaaaa560

    4 weeks and doing such a deep squat is kind of risky for dislocation no? I am a regular gym user but definitely won’t be risking lots of the leg stuff you do until after 3 months . That’s what my surgeon told me . Uncemented too needs to secure with bone growth . I am 2 months in and working up to my old routine very gradually. Good luck 👍

    Hi, I am due for a left total hip. And a bit like you very fit but wore the joint due to arthritis triggered by a fixation plate on my femur due to a crack after a speed skate accident in 2012. So how do you get back to running & weights. I keep being told no more running or heavy lifting despite using the Anterolateral Approach that does not cut muscle with a small cut etc. you have amazing mobility after just one month. They say no extreme bending, I am confused can you let me know the operation technique you had plus what prosthesis materials used. I was recommended non cemented Titanium with ceramic ball & highly crossed PE plastic cup..
    Well done & good luck getting stronger.
    I am trying to stay strong for the Op. In pain & sleepless nights but pushing on. Goddam nightmare coming from being able to do what I wanted a short time ago prior to a bike crash revealed the wear…We forget we maybe fit but the joints can wear.!. A note to everyone get scanned once in a while if very active to check cartilage & other possible issues..:-). Live long and prosper..

    Today is five weeks post for me, and I looked basically like you did at four. I'm getting PT through the hospital system where I got the surgery, and it's definitely not just for old decrepit people - haha. Hey wait - I'm older than you... Seriously my therapist could work for a professional football team. She's really good at knowing which muscles could use some work, and exactly how to manipulate them to improve overall function. I go home well worked out.
    Your crossfit will be good too, but I'd encourage anyone whose insurance covers PT to go for it.
    Oh, I had the anterior approach. If you had posterior, or even the lateral you must follow your doctor's restrictions. You pace will be slower, but hang in there - you'll get there.
