You see people get a crown and the crown only lasts five, seven, eight, ten years. The industry average is pretty low. Dental implants, when you look at their statistics, most dental implants are still there 20 years later and by most, I mean 90%. We tell patients if you have the ability to brush and floss your teeth and you do that, that a dental implant is going to last you much longer. It's not a natural tooth, it's not going to decay.
The threads of the implant, the implant itself, it needs to stay clean. If you keep it clean it can last you a very long time. Some of the causes of failure of dental implants are poor care. Some of them are issues with diabetes, some of them are issues with other long-term health conditions and medications. Even in those cases where patients have health conditions, they can have the same success rate. They may just need to be a little bit more cognizant of taking care of it.
