Fictional pandemic has destroyed 25 million lives worldwide , whereas , Real pandemic has destroyed 1.6 million lives worldwide , which may destroy more than 5 million or 10 million lives worldwide .

The amazing thing about this movie in 2020 is it shows just how predictable it is for a novel virus to arise, and how predictable the progression across the world is. The economic and political impacts are dramatized, of course (as is everything in a movie that needs to tell a story in 2 hours), but everything about COVID19 was predictable, and could have been planned for. Indeed, we had plans “on the shelf”, so to speak, and still managed to completely mess up absolutely everything about our response.
Clearly the writers of the film did their research on how a pandemic would affect the world.
Sadly spot on.
The 2011 film Contagion was conceived and shot in the wake of the 2009 Swine Flu pandemic, as the collaboration of director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns. It belongs to a small collection of materials and events demonstrating strange, almost prophetic awareness of what has befallen us since 2019. For much of last year especially, it often felt as if we were locked inside the screenplay of this infernal film, waiting for the vaccines to save us in the final act.
Contagion is above all important, because it reveals the degree to which Corona has unfolded according to the advance planning of academics and public health bureaucrats, who have spent every year since the 2003 SARS outbreak feverishly scheming about The Next Pandemic. Over time the planning became so elaborate, and attracted the interest of so many people, that it came to resemble less and less a plan, and more and more a trap, which required only the right virus to spring it.
You make an assumption that you shouldn't: that they were making mistakes. That can only be determined if the goal is what you think it is, which it probably isn't.
Because a certain Dr. Anthony Fauci wrote & was the "Expert Consultant" on this movie

COVID has about a 1-2% mortality rate and it wreaked havoc on the entire world both medically and economically, a virus with a mortality rate in the low 20% like this movie in real life would be catastrophic.............................
We're lucky that COV-19 doesn't behave like MEV-1 which attacks you by the respiratory system & neurologically...not to mention it can travel EASILY by fomites...viruses are fascinating...once the bat-pig dangerous vile strain combined and made contact with a human epidermis...it picked up a new ability to infect a new species which is humans...f*** mother nature.

They released a "movie preview" of a 2011 film about a viral pandemic in the middle of 2020, nine years after it came out, during a real viral pandemic. There was no reason to do this other than to make a very dark joke.

As you gather a few views of this preview & gather a few $$$ from a current paid streaming service, if you had placed the entire movie for all to see for free as a courtesy, the name of Warner Bros would have been embedded in the consciousness of millions in the future ensuring a greater return. After all, wasn't the movie released short of 10 years ago? Short sighted is forgotten.
