    That always bugged me when parents don't believe kids. I know it's a crazy thing, but instead of making them feel delusional or as if they're lying just humor them without being condescending .

    I lived in a house next to a primary school and one day i walked by and the schools garbage was out and there was boxes full of books in them, they smelled really bad but i looked thru them and found 2 boxes full of goosebumps books, some were duplicates some were in bad condition but when i found them i started reading them and idk why i can’t explain how much joy the goosebumps universe brings me

    I used to have all of the original Goosebumps books but they got lost in a move and now I'm on ebay looking for them all so I can collect them again. Thank you for reigniting my love for this series! Also, my corgi does the same low bork/grumble, especially when I'm like good sir we are not doing that 🤣

      I had a similar experience. Mother inadvertently gave away all my Goosebumps books (I had most of them). Now at age 33, I just found someone selling all 62, and purely for nostalgia, pulled the trigger. Takes me like an hour to read them now, but I'm absolutely digging it, especially reading a few for the first time.

    I just read all the original 62 Goosebumps books during covid lockdown, and it was the absolute best way to pass the time! For me personally, I found them as science fiction stories, as opposed to spooky ghost stories. And I will admit that after reading all 62 books back-to-back in the span of nearly a year (slow reader!), the plot twist ending of R.L. Stine kinda stuck with me, as I tried to predict what the twist ending would be for the next book. Some books were insanely brilliant, even though they were intended for 6-12 year olds (here I am in my thirties!), but there were some I just wanted to get through to reach the next one, almost like a chore! Absolutely favorite one is a super difficult choice but probably "Phantom of the Auditorium" or "Welcome to Dead House" but the one I would never pick up again was either "Beast from the East" or "How I got my Shrunken Head", due to these being kinda boring. But thanks for making a rating video, hope you had a productive and wonderful experience during covid lockdowns. Stay Safe and keep reading! Cheers!

    After watching both your video and Gavin’s, I appreciated how both of you approached things in different ways, bringing your own perspectives to the same material. I love how he basically was like, “this isn’t horror, meh” to Deep Trouble, while you liked it for that reason, and other differences like that. But then, many of the ones that were really terrible were ones you had in common, like the later Monster Blood books, Say Cheese and Die-Again!, Let’s Get Invisible!, Be Careful What You Wish For…those definitely sound the most infuriating.

  • @jdfrench86
    @jdfrench86 2 года назад +9

    I think Monster Blood got so much attention as during the prime of the books (mid 90s) "green slime" was extremely popular with kids, Nickelodeon always had people getting "slimed" Gak and other slimy toys were also popular. So im thinking that played a part in the obsession with that story plot.

    Although I love your content and agree with a lot of your opinions, I really think the more you got into the video and the more you were forced to read your opinions became pessimistic. If you had just read them at your own rate and chose which ones to read and when you would have had a really good experience. For example, on my channel I have reviewed both the beasts from the east and Attack of the mutant and think that they are both misunderstood. Yet again, I understand you were on a time crunch and you really wanted to bring this video out sooner. I just think you were a little too hard on some of the smaller bumps. Love the content. Keep it up

      My thoughts as well. I get it, she has her own thoughts and takes on these stories just as we all do, but damn after awhile all the pessimism and negativity were becoming grating to my ears. Not to say many of these thoughts weren't necessarily valid but still, maybe a different approach rather than a challenge to cram every original book in such a short amount of time could have brought a better toned atmosphere all around.

    40:54 this outfit is amazing!!! 🌟 Also, I've always loved the way you do your makeup!! I've probably mentioned it before in a comment- I've been subscribed for years. and I'm terrible at makeup, especially on my eyes.
    I have 20-something Goosebumps books that I had to go look to see if we actually still had. Technically, they're not _mine,_ I'm not even sure whose in the family they were. But they're in storage in the garage. One is even a special edition that looks shiny/sparkly- I'm not sure how to describe it. It's like a combination of shiny and sparkly, lol. Anyway, I mostly watched the show growing up. and oof that intro and music slaps still!!
    props to your commitment reading all the original books and making the vlog!

    My mother got rid of all my Goosebumps books (I never got all of them, probably had about 60-70%). So I got wine drunk the other night and eBayed all 62 (seller threw in some Fear Street, Series 2000, and Give Yourself Goosbumps books as well--sweet!). I'm at Be Careful What You Wish For right now. When I originally read these, I was like 7-8 years old, and they genuinely scared me. As an adult, they obviously don't scare me anymore, but it's scratching the nostalgia itch pretty hard. While reading I'm framing these as hour-long campfire stories, not as novels with intricate plots and character development. And for that, they're all perfect. Just a bunch of fun for me, really.

    This was an absolutely amazing video! Im also a 90's kid. Greatest generation to be a kid. Change my mind. Lol! In all seriousness, I absolutely enjoyed this video. Goosebumps is what got me into reading as a kid. I still HEAVILY read to this day because of Goosebumps. Your analysis on these classics hits me in a place beyond nostalgia. I forgot about most of these, but just seeing the cover of these books triggers my mind to remember it all. Things I was foggy on, u helped me remember. Loved it, watched all the way through, subbed, and thanks.

    @stephenpeterson7514 2 года назад +1

    My favorite one as a kid was Attack of the Jack-o-lanterns. It’s probably the only Goosebumps that firmly crosses the line from fantasy to truly plausible horror. While not graphically described, it’s heavily implied that four human beings are kidnapped, murdered and cannibalized by two of the story’s main characters. There’s also a terrifying sequence (later revealed to be a dream) featuring a sadistic elderly couple who lure young trick-or-treaters into their home on Halloween night and hold them captive against their will. Finally, there’s the real-life prospect of discovering you really don’t know your most trusted friends very well at all, as they turn out to be killers in disguise. Very dark and unnerving themes considering the age of the target audience.

    Took two nights to watch but worth it! I have not ever read a Goosebump book because I am a bit older. RL Stine books from my childhood are the Fear Street ones. They were very popular when I was in 5-7 grade. I think that Goosebumps may have started when I was in 8/9 grade. At least, that is around the time that the show came out. I already read adult fiction and classics primarily by that time, so I am not quite sure. I have promised my sons that I would read one of their books though, so that is on my to do list sometime in the next week or two.

    I read most of them as a kid in Danish, and the tagline on the front is changed on some of them in the translation. "He walks. He stalks." in Living Dummy was changed to "It talks. It laughs ...." which I think is scarier. It was even kept up in the sequel: "It talks again. It laughs again ...."

    I absolutely loved 'Goosebumps' and I swear that they were the greatest books when I was a kid. It's funny how things change when you age because some of the ones that were scariest to me are now the complete opposite. And a lot of the ones that were the most popular were actually some of the most mediocre in the entire series. I am a bit biased though. The covers were always a HUGE selling point for me. I actually met the illustrator, Tim Jacobus, when I was a kid and managed to get a book signed. Extremely friendly guy too, I might add.

    You know, I have 52 of the 62 original Goosebumps books on my shelf, and I just ordered five more from eBay a few days ago. That makes a total of 57. So, 57 down, 5 more to go to reach 62.

    Still crossing every possible part of my body for every one of the OG 62 to get reprinted with the fresh covers since I refuse to read them electronically and I don’t wanna dig for “good condition” for nostalgia “good condition” is not good enough
