Being endlessly and undeservedly criticized and mocked by the music press probably made him feel self-conscious about "defending it." Paul writes great and timeless music, and he always did.

I remember picking up Ram when it was first released in 1971 and loving it. It's still hard to believe that Paul has never, ever played "Uncle Albert, Admiral Halsey" live in concert. It's a crowd favorite when any bar band does it and he could have turned the "hands across the water" in a huge crowd sing-along.

@@robinhjohanson That story has been repeated many times. Mark Lewisohn is referred to as the Beatles expert due to all his indepth research. He has listened to hundreds and hundreds of hours of Beatles' taped interviews, meetings, studio time, etc while the band was together and after the band broke up. He has done exhaustive research to write several books on the Beatles. Anyway, Mr. Lewisohn said he has never heard John ever say anything like that. I'm obviously not an expert just a Beatle Fanatic but I believe Mr. Lewisohn when he says it was never said from everything he has researched. Hope this helps to clear that up. Peace everyone.

After The Beatles...some of his best post Beatles work here. Reminiscent of his Abbey Road side two work. Ram is another album worth exploring with songs like Back Seat of My Car and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. Oh, and the drummer, bass player and a lot of the guitar on this track was Paul. Wings had broken up so it was Paul, Denny Laine, and Linda, with Paul doing the lion's share of the work. His lead guitar player and drummer didn't want to go to Africa where the album was recorded so it's almost a Paul solo record. He put together a new Wings for Venus & Mars, his next album.

When I was a toddler my Dad would play this song for me, and I would sing along, expect I sang "stand on the rug," instead of "band on the run". So, in my family this song will always be called "Stand on the Rug." Almost three years ago my father and I went to see Paul McCartney play at Austin City Limits. It was the first time seeing him live for both of us, and my Dad is such a huge fan of Paul and The Beatles. When Paul played "Band on the Run" aka Stand on the Rug, my Daddy just put his arms around me and held me tight. I can't explain it, but it was such an emotional moment with my Daddy.

His music was spot on and his voice and his voice was incredible. His bass was rocking and had an a R&B vibe. His performance of Silly Love Songs was fantastic. True artist who could play and sing. He made a great band with them.

Tiny purple fishes Runlaughingthruyourfingers - Paul was making a statement with Silly Love Songs; actually a couple of statements. First, it was an answer to John Lennon criticizing Paul for writing “granny music” and silly love songs. It was also Paul saying, “I can make a mindless disco song that everyone will want to dance to”. And then he did and it spent six weeks lodged at No. 1. I doubt he even broke a sweat.

It is after the Beatles. Paul made a few albums & 45's after the Beatles with just them playing all instruments themselves & doing all the singing. He then formed his band Wings then Paul McCartney & Wings. Now since his wife Linda had passed, he is pretty much without a steady band. He does invite people to record with him & play live concerts. I was Lucky enough to see his concert; 4th row right in front of Paul; in Linda's last concert. It was MORE THAN AMAZING!!!!! THANK YOU for giving an honest review!!!

I helped fixing my car this weekend. We listened to his old casettes with these incredible Swedish night-radio shows recorded from the early 80's which played hits from "the last decade", the 70's that is, and it's just hours and hours and hours of recordings, with songs like this...
The 60's were great, but man the 70's... Rock, Soul, Disco, Funk and Pop all really peaked at the same time there!
It's AMAZING to see you react too all these songs for the first time. God bless for taking your time to learn about music history with such an open heart! Thanks man.

Paul McCartney was the drummer, bass player and one of the two guitar who played on this album. His wife, Linda, played keyboards and sang back-up vocals and Denny Laine, the other guitar player, also sang backing vocals. When this song and album was recorded, these three were the only members of Wings.
