I prep my brass a little differently. I clean the brass first by wet tumble. I use a Lee die (6MM ARC) and turn the die down a quarter turn after the die touches the shell holder and then do a full resize. I had Lee fabricate a case length gauge for me, in 6MM ARC, and I can adjust it easily by how far I screw the gauge into the cutter. I use the Hornady 6MM ARC cartridge gauge to verify the headspace on a test basis and adjust the depth of the die until the case conforms to the gauge as closely as I can get it. I never have a problem with the bolt not closing. Just my way of doing it, ymmv. I enjoy your videos and always watch them. Best regards.
Rob, like you I shoot for a .002 shoulder bump when setting up my dies. An option which I use is Redding's Competition Shell Holder sets which allow me to easily make fine adjustments for correct shoulder bump. I start off with the thickest shell holder, size, measure, then select the appropriate shell holder which will achieve my desired measurement.
I like the fact that you're using a Lee press and about the same setup I do, and as I am, getting great results... Have seen so many guys trash talk Lee, but I'm loading sub MOA and 1/2 MOA ammo with mine, can't get a whole lot better than that... If you know anyone who works in a Lab in a hospital, I get Styrofoam tubes holders, and use them as case holders for my clean/unclean brass, and spray my case lube on them in the tube holders, once dirty, throw out, and use a new one...
I like reloading, but I don’t like brass prep. I do all the same steps you mention, but it’s streamlined to save time. I trim before sizing. I don’t clean off lube after sizing. I anneal while I trim, then clean. My prepped and cleaned brass goes into my progressive, and comes out the other end as a completed cartridge. I get SDs around 10 with better than factory accuracy. It’s not my interest to tinker to obtain the smallest possible group, sub moa is good enough for the effort I put in, and I’m not shooting bench-rest, etc. Steel to 600 is the most challenging targets I get to shoot which is easy.
I’m seeing the same thing with 6 ARC. 3-4 loadings and the primer pockets have gotten pretty loose. I don’t even load to max charges either. Love my 6 ARC’s, but they are hard on case life. Thanks for showing us your process.
What powder do use for 6ARC I use shooters world match rifle powder I’m on my 6th reloading and so far only had to toss like 10 cases out of 300 and few of those I messed up by resizing to much when first trying to set up my dies but I can tell I will probably need to toss a few more because the last time I primed I felt a few almost too loose I mostly use 87gr-108’s
Don't load the first firing/ fire forming load at more than 80% pressure. It will work harden the base, should get a couple more out of it. I believe this is published in my nosler reloading manual.
I really like that trimmer. As long as your shoulder is bumped consistently, that trimmer should size them all the same. Anything that is over bumped becomes my sighters/fowlers.
What powder would you reccomend for a 24 inch upper in an ar platform running anywhere from 103-108 haven’t picked out a dedicated bullet but have plenty of brass and waiting on dies
I have a question that I've asked on a couple of other reloading channels an can't get an opinion on , i recently got into reloading an have my theories but wanted to get someone's opinion that's been reloading for a lot longer than me , i recently stumbled upon close to 100 rounds of 7.62x51 rounds and don't have a 308 but do have a 6.5 grendel witch is why i even considered getting into reloading in the first place , and was thinking of using the powder from the 308 rounds to load the grendel rounds of course with as close to the same bullet weight an starting with minimum charge weight after comparing different load data , so what's your opinion on this sort of endeavor?
I would say that is not a good plan. #1 no way to know what the powder is. #2 grendel and 308 are optimized with a little different burn rate. #3 using the same bullet weight class just won't work comparing 308 to 6.5.
@@RobsReloading ok thanks i was hoping it would work an would be able to save some money with the price of powder an all these days an over 80 rounds is a good bit of powder but if you say it's not a good idea im not gonna chance it , i appreciate it 👍👍
@@quadfather504fpv9 well to say it won't work wouldnt be accurate. The problem is we don't know if it would or not. Being new to reloading I would stick with published loads. Their likely would be a safe way to make this work but wouldn't recommend it.
@@RobsReloading ill just save the powder until i get more experience , but i wasn't planning on just jumping in and reloading it without doing any research on both sides of load data and starting at bear minimum , but i think it'd be wise to wait till i get more experience with it
Complete noob here, so I appreciate the clean slate approach in these videos. Thanks a bunch

The Lee quick trim die for this caliber is super quick and easy and chamfers the case as it trims.

I wish I had this available when I started reloading back in 1983.
Thx excellent point I never thought about the trim length could lead to faster build up of carbon ring
I am getting ready to start reloading, thanks for the help
Nice video Rob! Looking forward to next one, loading and shooting. Good luck. Wish you small groups !!!!
Thank you. Very nice and clear

I've had Excellent results with my lee press. I did recently upgrade to a turret press for convenience however. Still am going to deprime on the lee.

I can't figure out how you timed this. My Forster 6mm ARC dies arrived yesterday evening and this is what my plans are for today.😁
I wish I could find ARC brass to work with!

1st thing you should do: use the hornady die as a musky weight..= small base die causes Donuts at bottom of case!
It's alot of work for what we like to do
I don't consider it work. I enjoy the process or I probably wouldn't do it!

Yes your sizing die was on the left. Bullet seating die on the Right
