I'm way to happy with and way to invested in my 6.5 grendel to try another hard to find ammo for cartridge. Big reason I'm so glad I love the 308 and 223 so much .
Well I built a 6mm ARC shot it and sold it only wish I had was ammunition availability other than that very accurate and a joy to shoot and if ammunition was more readily available it wouldn't have been sold
Rookie mistake buying into a cartridge that has only been around for a year. Then it became a dumb decision buying it when ammo was impossible to find/supply chain issues for 2 continuous years.
I just reserve mine for a deer rifle when I need it until things come around. It really is a dream to shoot. All else fails I will get a Grendel barrel
Just bought a Ruger A.R. gen2 in 6mmARC. They made some good improvements to that rifle; the wedge is neat because of my shorter arms, and especially pleasing is the much smoother action. The caliber choice I made was because of the discussion I had with the very knowledgeable gunsmith at my LGS. Taking muleys or whitetail, and antelope at 600 yds sounded great! So, done deal. Looking forward to using this cartridge.
What barrel length are you running? I have no problem getting 2685 fps (that's my load node) out of a 24" barrel on a AR. I even went to 2705 fps and wasn't close to max load and still didn't have pressure signs.
We had the 6mm SAW over 50 years ago, but no one cared. Eugene Stoner developed a series of interchangeable rifles, carbines, and light machine guns for that cartridge.
Why? The 6.5 Grendel will do everything the 6mm ARC will do or more. You just have to compare like ammo with like projectile weights. Once you get heavier than the 6mm ARC offerings though the 6mm ARC can not keep up with the 6.5 Grendel especialy when talking about hunting and terminal ballistics in the real world on living flesh!
I'm not going to mention his name because I dont personally know him . He was getting 2950 FPS with 105s in his 26.5" 6ARC Bolt Gun . I believe he had over 6k rounds fired in mid 2021 . My 12.5 is my do all be all AR15 RECCE Upper 500 yards and in . My 16" is my SPR and can easily get out to 800 yards . I have about 1000 rounds of 6ARC fired through my Rigs.
HSM making 6 ARC factory ammo now. Hornady making 80 grain varmint rounds. One request Hornady- give us a factory round with 90 grain CX Superformance! I said 3 years ago if this is well supported it can become a top 10 cartridge.
If you have a 5.56/223 lower, you can build an upper for this caliber with a 6.5 Grendel BCG, 6mm ARC barrel, Upper, handguard, gas tube, gas block, muzzle device and 6.5 Grendel magazine. All of these parts can be shipped to your home. That's the beauty of a caliber like this.....with HUGE ballistic advantages. Unless you're shooting 5.56/223, 7.62x39 or 308, you're paying a TON for ammo. You can also build 224 Valkyrie, 300 Blackout, 6.8SPC, 6.5Grendel, 22 Nosler, 204 Ruger, and 300 Ham'r with ONE serialized receiver without modifications.
Such a sweet little shooter! However, can't find ammo, or components for the cartridge. Not to mention only Hornady loads 3 factory loads for it. This can't be a good thing for its future, right?
That was my thing with the 6.5 Grendel as well. I didn't think the velocity was there for the bullets it was spitting out. 120ish bullets were going 2500 fps? You drop to a lower weight and you can shoot those in a 6mm bullet faster. Well said guys
I might build one, but I'm perfectly happy with my Grendel's from 12"-22". They hunt well and all of my Grendel's shoot sub moa, including my 16" BCA 😳😁. Grendel wins on ammo availability and cost (premium and plinking). I can shoot and stock up on Wolf steel cased for less than 80 cents per round.

I contacted Starline and they are not taking on new projects and their technician said it wouldn't work because the primer pockets would stretch if you removed brass from the base. That didn't make since to me since it would be the same as existing 5.56! So I took two 6.5 Grendel cases and milled them down myself to fit my 5.56 bolt. I then put the 5.56 bolt in my 6.5 Grendel upper and have now shot each case 4 times and still have resistance in the primer pockets. One case is PPU and the other is Hornady. I'm pushing a 140 grain bullet with 21.5 grains of IMR4198 because I have a good supply of both. No pressure signs. I'm going to work up to 22 grains which should be near max pressure. I haven't chronographed this load and I'm not using the gas system for this test. I'm just testing the integrity of the base.
I hadn’t shot a rifle since the 90’s. Decided to get back into it with an 80% build gas gun. I went with the 6 Arc, 21”. Still building it, but can’t wait to run it this summer.
You could do the same thing with the 6.5 Grendel and the 7.62x39 with small primer pockets. This would practically eliminate the bolt breaking at the lugs due to the removal of metal to accommodate the larger cartridge bases.
So unless I’m missing something, this sounds like it would be ideal for feral hog eradication. Most ARs used for feral hogs are AR-10s in .308. 6arc would allow a smaller, lighter weapon. Just as hard hitting for getting through that dense animal.
Hey. Here's a thought. Instead of introducing catridge after catridge. A novel thought would be, "How about we fulfill the market need for EXISTING cartridges first?"

Might be a great cartridge if you could find ammo or reloading components. Have been waiting a year for brass!! I don't know you guy can shoot it. Hornady should make more brass
6mm AR has already had a following as soon as Grendel brass came onto market, on top of decades of 6 PPC. It's already kind of a thing, now standardized from a company who supports cartridges well. Ammo gets bought ASAP.
I built a gas gun version and used Grendel brass as a starter. It’s been a pain in the ass and occasionally has shot a 1 MOA group, but not with factory ELDM ammo. I’ve been shooting and reloading for years. 6 PPC and 6 Dasher. 30 BR for score. All performed-not this puppy
My hunting rifle is one of those cz 527 with a 22 inch barrel chambered in 6.5 grendel. I'm pushing a 120 grain speer gold dot (good luck finding those) very short bullet buy the way using XBR 8208 I'm pushing 2800 fps and its just scuffing the brass head a little bit.
So I acquired a 6mm arc in savage bolt rifle. According to Hornady reloading Manual the 108 is for a gas operated rifle. What can I shoot in this bolt action safely. I was always under the impression that bolt action could handle more pressure than the ar
I know it is a year later; however, was the .243 ever considered for this application? and if so, what were the deficiencies that knocked it out of the running?
But I could be used in the AR-10. But old cartridges in new packaging does not rifles sell. A lot comes down to the barrel twist too. Standard twist for a 243 is 1/10”, which is great for deer hunting loads, maximum point blank range shooting, but since the 6.5 Creedmoor came out with modern turret scopes and accurate rangefinders, you can lob a heavy bullet supersonicly over 1000 yards. That’s the selling point. The old school 400 yard and in “flat shooting” rifle doesn’t sell anymore. A lot of the reasons the communists in the country hate the AR-15 so much is gun sales were declining until the AR’s were made publicly available again.
I love the mild recoil. Having bad shoulders, I can't take recoil higher than 308 anymore. With this, it's the same ballistics of a 6 Creedmoor, and a lite recoil like a 22 magnum is awesome.
With a new cartridge they should sell inexpensive bulk target ammunition. As well as the hunting cartridges, etc.. Have a good deal on used STAG ARMS COVENANT 16" 6mm ARC. Decisions...
Without cheap Russian steel ammo going forward I have a hard time seeing Grendel having any benefit over 6ARC so the builds I was going to do in Grendel will definitely be 6ARC now
Guys are running as short as 12.5 and of course you aren’t going to be at optimal length there My gas gun is 22” excellent performance out too 600 plan to touch 1000 by the end of the year
Question for community. Looking to get back into Yote, small varmint etc... As a youth it was always a 22-250. Do you recommend the ARC or Creed? Will probably do both gas and bold platforms. Great video and thanks in advance. Thanks//
95gr v-max is the only hornady bullet in stock in my country for my grendel. So it eats mostly lapua scenar ( they sell them in 1000 boxes for less money). Saving the v-max for living targets. Gasoline and electrical bills hurts my shooting 😓
Thinking on buying one in the AR platform but it is in the 16” barrel, what do you guys recommend ? Will it be ok for the range i will be shooting, 400 yards and in

I want to build a 6mm arc upper for my AR but I can only find 16, 18, and 20 inch barrels for sale. I'm looking for 22 or 24 for mule deer in eastern Montana.
I would have loved it if they rebated the rim of the cartridge to .223 size instead of the larger 7.62x39 size of the grendel so we could use .223 bolts also.
So many missed opportunities. The bolt and barrel extension should have been redesigned & strengthened to tolerate greater bolt thrust. Have you wondered why you haven’t heard a thing from the unspecified “DoD Agency” (generally thought to be SpecOps).
The people want 58gr - 90gr factory ammo for it. Reloaders have proven it's very possible, clearly it's no .243win or 6creed, but it would be great for coyotes & bobcats with a 75gr V-Max. That's the only thing keeping me from buying the 6arc.
They are mostly focused on distance shooting if this cartridge picks up you’ll see a lot more offerings. It’s not very popular right now, especially since there’s debatably better 6mm cartridges for bolt guns
I load 70gr noslers up to 87gr vmax and it’s great on predators but doesn’t have near the velocity you would expect based on factory load data. I’m running and 18” proof and my 87gr vmax are only going 2675 fps. All the factory Hornady stuff is over pressured and it shows on the brass.
@@varmint_king Weird. 90gr TNT Federal 6.5 Grendel does 2700fps from my 12" Grendel. 87gr should be cooking from an 18" or longer in 6mm ARC with the right powder combo. We've been shooting 6mm AR for 18 years already, so data for 6mm Grendel isn't new at all. What load are you running, and what's your gas system length, barrel length?
6MM ARC NEEDS TO BE PUSHED more than it is at the moment.. Still not that easy to find and reload ammo! 6MM ARC has become my go to caliber when you can find ammo, i pick it over any of my several calibers i own.
Hornady, IMHO, YOU need to add some factory loaded offerings to the 6mm ARC. Currently, all of the loadings are > 100 grains and that's hurting the reputation of the round, because people think that it's just for long range. How about offer the same bullet choices as the 6mm Creedmore? Edit: What part of "factory loaded offerings" aren't you guys getting? Hornady has done a terrible job of showing the 6mm ARC's versatility.
I just checked their site because the one guy here mentioned he was shooting a 90 gr CX, they have an 80 gr & 90 gr cx listed on their webpage as new releases.
Early reviews on RUclips showed a lot of “double grouping” with heavy bullets which also displayed egg shaped holes in paper targets suggesting to me that the barrel twist was too slow. Have you reevaluated barrel twist for heavy bullets? Also, has anyone considered a redesigned bolt and barrel extension for the 6 ARC? It seems to me that pressure issues could be alleviated this way. The 6 PPC long predated the 6 Grendel and related cartridges, but was typically loaded (in bolt guns) to pressures An AR platform would not withstand. Presumably, you shorted the headspace to preclude someone shooting 6 PPC and such in it.
I only keep the 6MM ARC loaded to 52,000 limit for my AR, I have zero need to ruin a rifle by throttling my barrel with 1 high pressure rapid fire string. Most stuff I see on RUclips scares the crap out of me.
@@davidmilisock5200 I think there was a strategic error not changing the bolt & barrel extension. I foresee early bolt failures, some potentially catastrophic, in the future. 52k PSI just doesn’t show pressure signs on the primer and brass people are accustomed to using developing loads in bolt guns. What I was actually referring to were some of the earliest RUclips videos featuring “review samples” of rifle & factory ammo. They simply did not group well. I’m suspicious that they got the barrel twist wrong for the heavier bullets. I was spotting for a friend shooting a 6x47 Lapua and I was surprised that neither the primer nor brass were showing any signs of distress with some 115gr bullets which were loaded fairly warm judging by the drop going out to 500 meters. At least for the time being, it would be prudent to stick with pressure tested load data.
@@richardbriscoe8563 I've been using the same 3 gun smith's for nearly 40 years. Judging from what all 3 tell me the AR 15 market has become flooded with poorly constructed rifles. I not only expect to see failures when I visit the one guys shop. (he's 3 minutes away) I'm seeing about 4 failed rifles a week. No 6MM ARC rifles yet but a bunch of 5.56, 300 Blackouts and a few other calibers. I have zero concerns about failures with the military loading, it has had to pass military tests. My concern is with users, I've seen the so called builders mix matching type one bolts and type 2 chambers. The bolt for the Grendel has a type 1 and type 2. The 6MM ARC does not, it only uses a type 2 bolt and 1 set of chamber specification. There are 6MM ARC headspace and short brass life issues all over the internet, that's just poor rifle building. Which is why I picked a certified 6MM ARC manufacturer. My 6MM ARC shoots tiny groups and reloads from factory dies using formulated powders with results that match manufacturers loading results. I expect it will run well for many decades.
Current 5.56 NATO pressure specs are 62,366 PSI. They of course can spend our dollars on barrel replacements. Outside of increased barrel wear there has been only one certified issue and that one was because the 855A1 requires a different magazine follower and some I believe Army unit was using old magazines. I would never push any of my ARs that hard, I stick to 52,000 PSI loads. I want to keep ,y rifles for much longer. There are no pressure issues with 6MM ARC semiautomatic loads, just people who ignore specifications. The certified 6MM ARC load is 52,000 PSI and safely performs as designed. Yes bolt rifle performance of the 6MM ARC can be better than the AR loading. However the same thing can be said for the 30 06 and Garand loads as well as the 308 and M14 loads. Have Garands and M14s been blown up? Yep, there's no accounting for people.
@@richardbriscoe8563 I've been shooting 6.5 Grendel from AR-15s since 2009, with thousands of rounds through everything from 28" down to 12", with huge moving boxes of brass to prove it. I have yet to experience any mechanical failures of pressure containment parts. I have used real Grendel bolts though. I know people who have broken imitation bolts, AA bolts when shooting MLGS 18" suppressed, and hi-power guys pushing 6mm AR way beyond the limits to increase x count. I'm shooting 12" suppressed now as my focus, which is a joy. Brass through 22" RLGS, 20", 18", and 16" MLGS has lasted longer than any other rifle cartridge I have loaded for.
6.5grendel has cheap steel cased ammo available. And Ppu wolf gold and sellior and bellot make cheap brass cased 6.5grendel
Have a uintah precision 6mm Arc love it.. bought 20 boxes fast as i could, easy to reload

When will we be able to buy that magic pixie dust you guys use in your factory loads? I can't make factory velocities with Levr without pressure signs
What barrel length are you running? I have no problem getting 2685 fps (that's my load node) out of a 24" barrel on a AR. I even went to 2705 fps and wasn't close to max load and still didn't have pressure signs.
@@oif3vetk9 you just answered your own question... no1 really uses a 24 inch ar barrel
We had the 6mm SAW over 50 years ago, but no one cared. Eugene Stoner developed a series of interchangeable rifles, carbines, and light machine guns for that cartridge.
Hornady needs to push other Ammo makers to put out different 6 ARC rounds.
My thoughts exactly. This cartridge could be forgotten if this doesn't happen.
yes, we need cheap practice rounds
Even in his 22" 6ARC gas gun was getting almost or right at 2700 FPS with Black ..
6ARC is my absolute favorite AR15 Cartridge. It's my do all be all . I absolutely love my 12.5 and 16" .

Dang it, listened to this and a few weeks later my 5.56 Daniel is now a 6 ARC😂 Just seems way more versatile than 5.56 for hunting.
Grendel wins.
What velocities are you getting out of that range of barrel lengths?

Would really love to see Mile's 6arc PRS gas build since it's mentioned in a number of podcast!
How'd it turn out?
Got a cmmg resolute love it but we have to get more people on board with ammo also what is the latest word on the dod using the six arc
6gt shooting 109 bergers out of a 23lb bolt gun goin 2950 and ive never had trouble watching trace. Just got ny 22 inch ar10 going 2950, but havent broke it it or really tried to group with it. 6 arc us on the list to build though
Might be a great cartridge if you could find ammo or reloading components. Have been waiting a year for brass!! I don't know you guy can shoot it. Hornady should make more brass
6 ARC just another flash in the pan,
King today, forgotten tomorrow.
I'm not biting.
It is truly a decent cartridge but not a better cartridge than it's parent the 6.5 Grendel!
Where does the 106 TAP fit in, list BC is higher than the 108 ELD-M. Is the Tap ammunition what the DOD is using?
So much information !
I'm planning on prairie dogs to mule deer, & black bear. 58vmax 8208xbr?? What load on the 90CX??
What would I need to change out on my AR47, 7.62x39 to chamber the 6arc? Or is it enough difference to change out?
Like the cartridge, but they need support from Ruger to go with Savage.
The 243 Win can’t be used in the AR15.
Can we fit this in our ar15 lowers? Just a barrel and bolt/ mag change?
Yes....
Is there any way of getting your guys to push 6mm arc in Australia
Does the 6 arc use one of those goofy type ar47 mags or does it fit a stanag type mag
Definitely an interesting cartridge.
Get the availability and the price more competitive and i will build one. A cheap fmj offering would be nice for plinking.
What bolt actions feed arc the best? Cant wait to neck it down to 22.
Use the same case head from 24 nosler with the ark chamber. Using the same 556 bolt.
Stronger bolt and no rim lock.
I love the mild recoil. Having bad shoulders, I can't take recoil higher than 308 anymore. With this, it's the same ballistics of a 6 Creedmoor, and a lite recoil like a 22 magnum is awesome.
Put a suppressor on your 308. It'll take recoil way down. My 308 weighs 6.5lbs with suppressor and scope but recoils like an unsuppressed 223.
Love Hornady Ammo, but dang other ammo makers need to step up as well as rifle makers. is the 6 ARC fading out like the Valkery ?
Hi Fellas,, it's been closing in on a year since this interview. How is 6ARC AMMO production today??
It's been made non-stop since its release. We have added people, machines, and a larger footprint to accommodate demand.
Been shooting a .243 for last 50 years, i should slow it down, save my barrel ?
Great cartridge! Needs more support from hornady, and they need to get other manufactures on board, or it will sadly die off
love the round. Vortex has this same set up and your table looks cheep. Team up and we all win.
Hey guy's, can you put a 5 56 base on the 6mm ARC so that I can use my standard 5.56 bolt. You could call it the the 6 ARC (Gas)

Looking for another short frame caliber, 6.5 grendel had my attention, looking into this as well.
Without cheap Russian steel ammo going forward I have a hard time seeing Grendel having any benefit over 6ARC so the builds I was going to do in Grendel will definitely be 6ARC now
What length barrel, in a gas gun, is needed, to get the performance of the 6mm ARC?
Guys are running as short as 12.5 and of course you aren’t going to be at optimal length there

how many 6mm ars do we need
I would have loved it if they rebated the rim of the cartridge to .223 size instead of the larger 7.62x39 size of the grendel so we could use .223 bolts also.

You guys at Hornady need to make a broader selection of commercial ammo. How is the TAP ammo in 6mm arc for hunting ?
So many missed opportunities. The bolt and barrel extension should have been redesigned & strengthened to tolerate greater bolt thrust.
Have you wondered why you haven’t heard a thing from the unspecified “DoD Agency” (generally thought to be SpecOps).
How about some 6.5 Grendel brass????
The people want 58gr - 90gr factory ammo for it. Reloaders have proven it's very possible, clearly it's no .243win or 6creed, but it would be great for coyotes & bobcats with a 75gr V-Max. That's the only thing keeping me from buying the 6arc.
They are mostly focused on distance shooting if this cartridge picks up you’ll see a lot more offerings. It’s not very popular right now, especially since there’s debatably better 6mm cartridges for bolt guns
I won’t have another one. Too hard on brass

@@milesn3173 thank you
Hornady, IMHO, YOU need to add some factory loaded offerings to the 6mm ARC.
I just checked their site because the one guy here mentioned he was shooting a 90 gr CX, they have an 80 gr & 90 gr cx listed on their webpage as new releases.
the latest hornady handloading book lists lower grain bullets.
What factory load offering do you want to see from them?
