30MM actually distracted me away from buying my first Gunpla kits. I was wanting to branch out my hobbies and thought Gunpla might get me back into model kits again, but I couldn't decide on any Mobile Suits I liked enough to want a kit of. And then I saw a Mecha Gaikotsu video on 30MM and just started getting too many ideas in my head to not try them out.
@@AlessandroRodriguez Kotobukiya sells kits of just detailed 3mm hole covers, that's maybe worth thinking about if you get into 30mm kits and want to cover up those holes.
Man these guys look good. I’m probably gonna wait a while for a dark grey Rabiot for that dark special operations option set but otherwise Bandai did not disappoint with these guys
You can’t just say you painted your Portanova white and not show us dude. Please I need to see it now. Also, can the option sets work on altos/portanova? I’m thinking of making a custom yellow Alto. The alto is my preferred design of the three and yellow is my favorite color
I have no idea if the head and chest armor will fit(it actually might) as I don't have these in hand yet, but the parts on the shoulders and waist definitely will fit as they connect via the standard 30mm peghole design. You'll just have to get creative, which is the entire point of 30MM anyway.
Just a word of warning, the parts between Portanovas (and most likely the upcoming Ciels) don't mix well with the Alto/Rabiot if you want to use the armor detail parts like the head pieces. Same goes for the chest armor pieces. The guns between the Portvanova and Alto are also not compatible for parts-swapping, that is until the little adapter that comes with the Rabiot came along. Mecha Gaikotsu also shows that the Alto face plate doesn't fit the Rabiot, and it is likely the same vice versa. I also am not confident that the Alto chest armor will fit, even though the base Alto panel fits on the Rabiot. So when doing basic custom builds you need to match up the face plates to the right heads and the chest plates to the right torsos. Also when a kit says "FOR ALTO" or "FOR PORTANOVA", etc, take it seriously. Strangely the Rabiot guns are the same as the Portanova gun joints, and the adapter is exclusively for the Alto gun parts. This is a good thing and I hope Bandai just makes all future 30mm kits have the same standard for gun parts. Anyways, to make it more clear what you can do without modification, is mix and match full assemblies. You can put a Portanova head on an Alto Torso with Rabiot shoulders, Portanova Forearms, and Alto hands if you wanted, for example. If you get really creative you can also do things like chain-link thighs together to make a tail or whip arm. You can also link waists together to add more legs if you want a Quad or Hex leg model. My personal project right now is involving attaching a second Alto Torso to the back of a main Alto body to allow it to have a backpack with fully functioning arms on the back, loaded with guns. Though I have to admit looking at this Rabiot kit there's now a cleaner, easier way to accomplish this without needing a silly back-torso.
@@lpsoldin3162 Nice my personal project is modifying my white Alto and adding the actual striker packs so I can have a Perfect Alto. It's looking great so far but I intend on tracking down the custom parts so I can basically turn it into a Gundam. I really love your videos. If it wasn't for me being poor & paying my studies, I'd definitely buy all of the model kits you have reviewed, I even made some custom Gunpla sketches, but I'll have to wait some years more
these are perfect for filling the bionicle-shaped hole in my heart. Also I can't wait to see a grey/black Rabiot so the dark armor will look less out of place
Rabiot (and Cielnova) need more color variations. More colors means you can assemble models with the color schemes you want without having to resort to painting them. For example: you can buy the white Alto and the gray Alto and switch parts from both kits to produce an *all-white* Alto instead of the white Alto's default white-and-purple. I've done something similar with my own and it sets them apart from the standard kits.
Fun Fact : The official page of this kits on Twitter has an event each month, it's basically a photo submission of your kits and a war between the UN (Alto/Rabiot) against Byron Army (Portanova/Ciel Nova). Once you've submit yours it will be featured in the event page. Especially if you win the 1st place.
Mecha.. you should start ranking themm with their own Ranking System.. I mean, so many option sets, so many grunts, and all. You definitely should create a tier system based on this mini Universe. It could be pretty fun hehehe
Hi MG, Maybe consider making like another separate shelf for 1/144 scale kits, the usual shelf presence tests are good, for people with all them different scaled models But having all them in same scale makes shelf presence tests more useful, y'know, it's about showing how well they match into collector's shelfs right =Db If you have got spare space somewhere that is =/
I wonder if Bandai will employ some of the things 30MM kits have into future HG releases. Especially how the elbow and knee joints connect with the rest of the kit. That would make painting some HG's so much easier without the need of possibly having to modify the joint in a way to detach it and reattach it if it isn't connected with polycaps much like the Build Fighters/Divers kits.
You know what mobile suits I want to see as Gunpla. The Kestral Gundam and what it once was. Its a cool Advanced of Zeta MS that deserves a non P Bandai kit.
