i usually hate funko pops but the nonhuman ones look ok, i have some of the fnaf ones and theyre kinda cute :) its only because they break the mold so much though, the default human ones are impossible to tell apart if you didnt know the source
i was actually just looking at the muscle man funko pop lmao
The human ones and the old ones for sure, but they improved a lot over the years
The sad thing about Pops is that based on the documentary, they could be as detailed as they want to be but they're told to tone down the detail
It's not just about the detail, Funko Pop base "template" design is just really bad. To me they look like dog toys. They're tasteless.
There are a lot of "simple looking" or stylized collectibles which are very cool or cute despite not being very detailed, asian toys designers (mostly from Japan and Hong-Kong) are experts at that.

Funko pops are like this grotesque parody of consumerism made real and unironic
Well said!
My wife and I walked into a Funko store several years ago without knowing what we were getting into, got hassled by a hipster salesperson explaining how each Funko Pop was a collectible piece of art, and we high-tailed it out of there in complete disbelief that such a flagrant sham could even exist. I figured it couldn’t possibly get off the ground, yet here we are.
No wonder Marvel fanboys fucking obsess over these

The whole brand's a joke.
Every day we stray further from God....

Literally the only appeal of buying a Funko Pop is that it’s of a specific character. At least expensive and high effort action figures actually look really good outside of being a character and have tons of poses and accessories.

Agreed, only times I ever actually WANTED a pop is if it was a character that didn’t have much merchandise or had merch thats super expensive…like the Big Daddys from Bioshock or Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal
At that point your better of just buying figurenes
Only problem with those are depending on the medium(anime comics video games etc) those can be allot more expensive
I'm a gamestop employee. Two days ago we had to take some dedicated time to reorganize the store because of all the damn funko pops we have clogging up the front section.

Fiance sounds like a twat, glad they split before marriage drama happened. So long as you're a good person and pull your own weight, what difference does it make if you collect figures?? I remember feeling confused when my local gamestop started stocking funkos years ago and there were more of them each time I went. Didn't take long until the store was full of weird plastic characters and the games had to be moved to make more space for them.
I was working there back when they started stocking skylanders, we had to take down all of the wii games to make room. Our bathroom was full of stacks of wii games that never sold, and lots of copies of duke nukem forever. Can't imagine where other stores find the room to store their junk.

It's not just video game stores that are becoming Funko Pop stores with gaming on the side. It's happening in all of the handful of comic book stores that exist in my country of South Africa. The demand for comic books and manga is extraordinarily high, but, instead these stores opt to invest more in merchandise that non-comic book/geek media fans would purchase rather than their regular customers. So needless to say, even though this video was more about the jokes, I am pretty open about my hatred for these damn things.
It also happened at my local record store, then they realised no one bought then and started selling them for £5 each. I think I might have been given a Gerard Way one, I know my friend had the twenty one pilots Ned one
Whenever i go to my go-to gaming store in Malla Plaza im utterly disgusted by the large amount of Funko Pops on Window Display.

Comic books song sell well anymore. Even Warhammer sells better than comics.
Nice to know I’m not the only one disinterested in Funko Pops. I always thought maybe there was some kind of craze I was missing out on but couldn’t be bothered to get into.
I got gifted a funko years ago from a good friend of mine. The sole reason it has a place in my shelf of miniatures and models is the sentiment. Im more proud of all the handmade/painted minis than having said funko
I was never into funko pops and didn’t understand the appeal, but I promised myself if I ever received one as a gift, I’d display it with pride solely for the sentiment. My husband got me bubbles from the powerpuff girls and she proudly sits on display, but she’s the only one I’m planning to have unless another is given as a gift from someone.
this is my situation too. i actually kinda like it, it’s some “diamond edition” vaporeon thats all glittery. met a guy at work that was really into them, told him about it, and he showed me it goes for hundreds of dollars now. couldn’t care less, too used to seeing it on my shelf and thinking of my friend now 💙
That should be a MrBeast challenge, buying every pop in a GameStop and observing if they at some point have to stock up again or if he took a burden from them
I'd watch that.

So true. I went to my local Gamestop this past weekend and I noticed quickly how Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch games were only sold on the new games shelf. i have 3 master grades, 1 high grade and one full mechanics under my belt. the HG and FM took about 4 hours to build and the MG took me 10-12 hours. althought theyre a huge time sink, for the most part theyre super easy to build. to see huge collections like the on shown in the video isnt only impressive finacially but also downright crazy when you think about how much time it wouldve taken the owner to build all of them.

I got 4 MG but they are fake since I can’t afford the real ones but my RG and HG are all official. All I could say is, they are much better than the funko pops, the engineering in some like the RG unicorn or the RG Tallgeese. But holy crap my favorite is the RG zeong that came out last year, it costed me a lot but I considered it worth it since it looked so good and so detailed and I placed my soul into placing the DAMN STICKERS WHY ARE THE STICKERS JUST AS ANNOYING AS LEGO STICKERS i also panel lined most of the parts
there are some new entry grade gundams that are about 9/10 dollars and take less than an hour to build. you can try those out as a beginner
@@snackboxone364 I've built a ton of Gundam kits, but for the past couple of years went to the military modeling side. Dude, the stickers in Gundam kits are the reason I hesitate to buy more. WHY cannot Bandai be arsed to just include water decals in the kit? This is standard practice for literally every other modeling company, and even Bandai do it for their non-Gundam models. Decals take time to apply, like everything else about building the kit, but they're so easy to adjust while wet, no ugly edges, and they look painted on. But with Bandai I have to order decals from China every time and wait like 2 months for them to arrive. I'll stick to Tamiya and HobbyBoss lol.
Idm gunpla kits. Its honestly fun assembling them and that fun kinda dies down once you're done. But that's just me. Unless you go the extra mile and do the panel lines, extra details, etc etc.

It's been a while since my last gunpla, I believe it was either the MG RX-78-2 Ver 2.0 or the RG Unicorn Gundam and that was almost 5 months ago. I've been doing more military models, such as tanks and aircraft, but my Gundam collection will always be there. I've only spent about 700 or 800 dollars on gunpla, but I'd say that's quite a bit considering my most expensive ones are the MG Sazabi Ver Ka and MG Nu Gundam Ver Ka which if you know about Gunpla, you will know how expensive these kits are.

Not only you have to put the pieces together, you have to paint the Gundams too, for the hardcore model builds
for the most part you dont need paint for your gunpla
The hard-core model builds come from the armor or aircraft modelers, the amount of effort I've seen put into those kits is amazing. Gunpla already comes molded in it's colored plastic so you don't have to paint it, unlike military models.
No you don't, They look fine out of the box even unless it's some kit from the 80s or 90s

Im really glad for the Gunpla shout out. I have a small collection my self and I really enjoy putting them together while listening to Muta or watching other things. I can empathize with people collecting funko pops if they just want to collect stuff especially since they are really cheap compared to actual scaled figures that exist. However for me its more of a quality over quantity thing.
The small collection of people sometimes are worth more than the ones with large ones
Still have my Bionicle collection lined up on my top shelf, so much more soul than those Funko Pops, and I also had a Medabots collection that I think is still stored around here somewhere so I'm very happy to see Muta mentioning that. I actually do have one Funko Pop, but it is a Jawa from Star Wars, so it actually makes sense to have those round eyes because jawas actually have yellow round eyes, and it is the only Funko Pop I've seen so far that actually makes sense to me.
I once went into a GameStop and was immediately confronted with a freaking pyramid monolith of a kiosk stack of Funko Pops that reached the ceiling, to the point that I'm pretty sure that touching it was a dangerous game of Jenga.

Just nice building them

I've had this debate with a couple friends. One of them has several funko pups (unsure how many he bought vs were given to him) and I was saying how I don't get understand the appeal because they're kind of ugly. His argument was that they're cheap and there's a lot of fandoms represented so it makes collecting more accessible. Which is literally the only thing I agree with. They're ugly and souless, but they are cheap and there are a lot of them.
Also, bionicles were the shit. Me and my brother used to collect them and actually play with them.
Just a heads up with Gamestop/EB Games.. they have a partner store named "Zing", which is solely for collectible stuffs, and they merged the stores a while back. So a lot of the time you're not seeing the Gamestop stuff, just the Zing stuff
And thinkgeek
Wish those Funko Pops actually have a sort of utility on them tbh, at least with gunpla and other figurine they're soulfully sculpted or posable to your liking.
That’s not utility though lmao
@@sekiro_the_one-armed_wolf , the utility the guy is refering to here is the articulation on the figure itself. Since the definition of 'utility' is being useful or beneficial, posable figure such as gunpla allows people to interact or (like OP) to do whtever they find useful or beneficial i.e. make stop motion videos and the OP's channel is a living testament to that.
They should have been marketed as collectibles and only had certain characters pop up at certain stores at certain times, their business model would make wayyyy more sense. But then again, I think only boomers, people who fall for Nigerian prince scams, and legitimate collectors and mega fans of certain shows/media/products/IPs/etc. still willingly buy collectors items. Usually it's a big scam.
I mean they are bobble heads 90% of the time, at least every marvel/star wars ones are, so thats something. But In my opinion, what makes funko pops worth collecting, is the fact that you can collect 1 thing, for any thing you are into. You can collect them for all of the things you are into, & in turn have a “matching” collection representing any/all of your interests.
This is the first time in my life that I have heard anyone outside of my family mention Rescue Heroes. Holy shit I loved the fuck out of that show growing up

They might both be a "collection" but that really doesn't hold up when gundam's are so much more than just figures. I prefer to build my own collection, literally.

Spending money on things you want but have no tangible need for is generally fun.
I've been in a really depressive episode as well and I found Mecha Gaikotsu's channel and now I, uh...
.... Yeah. I've dropped way, way, *way* more money than is reasonable. It's about all I do nowadays. It's really soothing.
@@RaptieFeathers check out some of the other gunpla like zakaerilus (the name is hard to spell for me) they are also good reviewers and gunpla news type of channels
Heh, i started out with the SD line as a kid. I moved on towards the HG when I first got the HG banshee norn than the HG banshee. Soon I moved to the RG tallgeese than stopped for couple of months than got the HG GM sniper 2, than the beginners kit for gunpla which included the RX-78-2 and Zaku II. Than I got my favorite kit the RG zeong last year than I finally moved on to the MG line which were longer to build than anything else I have built
I'm thinking of buying both HG Zaku II and HG 1/144 RX-78-2 (origin) for my first gunpla purchase. Are those good for a newbie like me?
"If you're Canadian" dude I was in love with Rescue Heroes. I had numerous figures with my Bionicles.
I've got a few FUNKO Pops. I know they're tacky, but they cover a ton of franchises and they're cheap compared to most detailed figures. 🤷🏻♂️
The figures that are based on helmet wearing characters or creatures that lack the typical Funko facial features look better imo. Only one I've got so far is the T-51 power armor from Fallout.
Soy.
I've worked hard over the years to avoid Funko Pops, and I still managed to acquire a few as gifts. I keep them apart so they don't multiply like Tribbles.
Good thing Muta always making sure he doesn’t anger anybody when he makes these type of videos
Germany-- --Permany
Over somebody saying they funko pops? People like that exist? Well those that can't take criticism
@𝕀 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕣𝕒𝕡𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 𝕜𝕚𝕕𝕤 What, that you're just another Funko pop collecting pay-dough-file? There's nothing edgy or unique about you worth clicking your name. It reveals your naive innocence if anything. People that would actually like your username are all over the place, basically anyone with a blue check mark on Twitter is as bad as your username implies or worse.
You guys know the drill, Report this fool dont give them the time of day.
Ladys and gentlemen, we got em!
Like a coward or even worst, a ce-centrist. Ugh
Funky Pops are like next gen Beanie Babies
7:35 There IS 1 Funky Pop videogame and it's Gears of War themed, it's already defunct iirc.
The reason I like Funko Pops is just because they are cheaper to buy overall, they aren’t the best sure but if you want a quick figure of a character you like which isn’t available anywhere else or is otherwise highly expensive, it’s a good choice
@UC4BjXK3zR_209d8Tjd6nEVQ Find a better hobby
Wtf are you talking about? Target is selling these for almost 30 bucks. Most gunpla is 10 bucks cheaper than that
@@angellara7040 that I did not know, but buying them online they are always like 10-15 dollars unless you want rare ones
Dude fr. I would get some actual figures or statues of some of my fav characters but they are pretty pricey so i find getting a pop is a bit more cheaper and a nice little figure
@@angellara7040 I think thats because its a 10inch
his "don't be angry' disclaimer at the start is hilarious xD so glad this channel got recommended to me, good boy algorithm for once
Zoids, Beyblades, and being scared of the Ring. Must be a common 90's Canadian upbringing XD
Muta really just brought me back two decades bringing up bionicles😂
What about the Infinity mask?
I was waiting for him to mention Bionicle, I was not disappointed
You know, as a person who recently got into anime figure collecting I can honestly agree with this. Most general funko pops based off of media in the U.S look like the exact same except the only thing that changes is their character clothes, the mold and souless eyes are the same exact thing otherwise. Heck, even legos manage to do the whole souless eye thing better than actual funkos otherwise figures from like gundam, anime figs and nendroids are just 10x better. One last thing I should probably mention is not every pop is gonna look great lol, there’s so many questionable looking ones but very few times (and when I say few I mean like 2-3 times) is when there might be something good
Yo, I collect anime figures too. Have you got any favorites?
Finally someone that collects figures
i collect anime figures and pops. i like them all the same.
Well we have nendroids too
@@koishikomeiji5046 I haven’t gotten many favorites yet! But one favorite I did get was a pop up parade fig of Lucy from fairy tail :3
I got some of the very early ones. They had some MLP and Despicable Me ones I liked. I thought they were pretty nice, something different to put on the shelve. They got out of hand, though. And as soon as you put a bunch of them next to each other, their novelty value drops dramatically. I can’t imagine paying rent for a room full of Funko Pops.
I for myself have a hobby of collecting 28mm figures since several years; It helped me with stabilizing my hands, helped me with patience problems, and is really stress-relieving.
To be fair, funkos are good for people who want a cute little collectible on display, so they have their appeal over a dedication to build a complex figure. But to have so many it kinda ruins the point of them to be a small decoration
Right? A funko or 2 of characters you like are a great desktop decoration.
But why on Earth would you spend thousands of dollars filling a room with them? That's...just kinda sad, I think.
To be fair even in this regard there are better alternatives, tho funkos have more diverse options than any of the competitors.
@@nihili4196 They are cheaper too, so for a birthday gift it's perfect.
@@faoxie2209 when you're on budget or as a very small gift, yeah. But I would say funkos are more of an impulse buy thing
I dislike them because they've made everything into one. And then that was enough and made different varieties of the same one, and that wasn't enough and made them exclusive AF. And that wasn't even enough. . They don't even resemble the characters they're selling sometimes. The art style is okay at best
whats wrong with having a lot of characters tho? I'm not a massive fan either, but having more characters is nothing but a good thing
Because they have a lot of characters isn't a bad thing, it just means the company is good at getting licenses for characters
Even where I live, there’s a wall dedicated to Funko Pops and other merchandise other than games.
Most of the games now are either on small shelves or are in the “pre-owned” displays and even those are sometimes replaced with Funkos.
I have a big Funco Alduin from Skyrim on my desk staring at me menacingly constantly
When Muta says: "Gundams are BASED" it made my day :)
Something about Funko Pops just look....off-putting. To each their own, but looking at them feels uncanny.
@YeaMan lowtiergod yourself
Definitely the giant dot of eyes and no mouth. The only one I could stand were the ones with non-human features, so the plastic mold formed the snout.
It's the eyes...the soulless beady eyes
blank room soup
I don't like the Coraline aesthetic they have.
I was in the beyblades era what a nostalgia to hear someone talk about them after this long time
Rescue Heros are an unlocked memory
Brought a girl over once and after she saw my mint Funko collection she said she had to run home and check on her dog. Haven't heard from her since... dog must be dead or something. Hope she's doing okay
I mean....
Nendroids have more personality than Funko Pops can ever have.
and are 5 times the price at retail
@@Feetism worth it, I would rather spend 50 bucks on a proper figure to add into my collection every month than buying 5 of the same plastic that was barely changed to fit a different character
@@CrimsonCloudsZeroTwo wait those things are 50 dollars? 50????
Why are people hailing these as better than funko pops? Theyre insanely overpriced wtf. They're both landfill.
@@ShaCaro i would rather buy a good looking landfill rather than a soulless looking one for 5 times the price tbh.
They are both figures which are luxury items, so you can't expect them to do anything useful other than to look pleasing on the shelf or the table anyway.
@@ShaCaro uh no they are not overpriced, we talking about something that been on the market for good amount of time now and the demand for them is huge around the world compared to funko pops also for the quality you get and what you get with it totally worth the price for collectors compared to funko pops
Buddy really name dropped rescue heroes
There is a Funko (real-time strategy) game based on Gears of Wars called "Gears Pop!" for Android iOS, and is like Clash Royale.
Every fan of the franchise hate his reveal and existence.
Hearing that rescue heroes was a Canadian thing, being both Californian and super into the show and toys as a toddler, has me feeling some type of way.
same lol
Canada is just an extension of California confirmed.
You have to flex the Cal thing right?
@@luichinplaystation610 I see it more as a handicap than a flex, to be honest.
Same here, it must have weirdly been a cali thing as well.
As a person who collects them I only go for franchises I actually like regardless of price or if they’ll eventually be worth something. I just like collecting the sets, gives me something to do.
@𝕀 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕣𝕒𝕡𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 𝕜𝕚𝕕𝕤 Wow, my content is diarrhea and still better than yours.
Same I know they are just collecting dust but my Steph curry funko is special to me hahha
That's how every collector should act. I have 50+ Pops myself but none of them consist of franchises I don't care about. A lot of them have actually skyrocketed in price
Well.. find something else to do
I spend my time whacking it, it's free and you get a delicious snack after.
Damn you hit me in the childhood when you mentioned medabots 😅 both the anime series and GBA games were tight asf
Funko pops are so ugly. Can't understand why someone would buy a funko pop over an actual detailed figurine.
Brainless normie consumers who want to show they’re “fans” of whatever big name show/movie. Those are the type of people I think buy these pieces of garbage.
