  • Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! For months our peers over at Twitch have been reacting to original videos large or small from various content creators. With the state of the algorithm on this platform it's become a parasitic relationship and needs to stop. Thanks for watching!

I don't think the dub would truly "replace" your video, the people that watch the dub won't watch your video not because they've already seen it dubbed, but because they *can't* watch your video, they don't understand it. The people who watch your video and the people who watch the dub are essentialy two completely different demographics with little to no overlap and as such you don't get activly harmed by the dubbers (But you also see little to no benefit.).

*thank you for talking about this muta*
As someone who makes content and streams on RUclips. It’s true. The “reaction” videos are actually killing RUclips. Small channels are not incentive to make original content. When a bunch of small content creators try to ride the waves of bigger content creators. You’ll find that it becomes just a bunch of reuploads in the end with little to no transformative content. The best example is the AH & Depp trial. You see channels literally stop making content to just reupload the entire videos.
So when a bunch of “gaming” channels shift to “depp trial reactions” it screws the algorithm for everyone actually left in the gaming category. So if you’re not upload depp trail clips or entire videos reuploads in “gaming” the algorithm won’t push your videos. It sucks because everyone is just trying to grow but end up screwing over those of us trying to be original.

But it's kind of a fact that if people who never, I mean never would have watched your 1k subscriber videos, then nothing was really stolen or anyone was hurt. In fact the opposite is true. Because people would then learn of that tiny channels existence and start going there to see more of their content.

They will watch the reaction of that video and that’s about it. It’s also not always something everyone enjoys, for someone to truly get invested in a channel it has to be something they personally like. But see the thing is, I'm not just sitting here stroking the dick of the next person who agrees with both me, this video, and every other person who thinks they're saying something profound about react streamers when they're just saying the same thing the last person said.
There are plenty of channels I'd never heard of or thought I'd have an interest in if it weren't for someone else reacting to... I mean, violent theft of those channels. But hey, that's just me, someone who watches some react content and doesn't just hand wave off all of it as "Oh yeah they're all lazy thieves who just want to steal money from other people and don't have a personality yet manage to draw in a crowd.".
And I would genuinely love some evidence of react content mortally wounding small content creators. I never see it, just a "come on believe me, it's common sense, if someone watches your video, that means that all 1k of those people will now not watch your video.". An appeal to a preconceived thought put into your head by the person peddling it.

Thanks for making this. I'm a big fan of asmon but have noticed some unfairness recently. He does shout people out and has helped some channels grow in the past but I can see it being quite damaging to a creator now. I think the main problem is reacting to a video that's hours to only a few days old. It would make sense to wait a month before reacting so you wouldn't jump any views and hurt the original video much, as most of the views would've happened by then. At that point it would benefit both the reactor and the RUclipsr.
I also think not ripping the exact title of the reacted video is a very fair point, even somewhat ripping the thumbnail.
Asmongolds channel is run by other people, it seems like they have gotten a taste of the money for sure. It's been getting pretty OTT.
Plus shout outs and subs from reactors is t necessarily helpful, as people watch the reacted video in full, and if someone comes to your channel, they won't watch the video again. They may like the video but will tank the uploads watchtime, whilst helping the reacted reupload get recommended to others

@@maplesyrup4803 It isn't, there are a lot of reasons as of why but I'm gonna go for the most important one (but before that tho I just want to point out that this is not a personal attack on you or the fact that you enjoy his content, I'm just trying to discuss why I and a lot of people think that what he does with reactions is bad and hopefully make you give it a second thought).
Asmongold reactions are a complete substitute for watching the original video, it's not transformative, if you watch his reaction you have watched the full video, he has taken the hard work of independent video creators, used it for his own monetary gain and to further his growth in the algorithm and now there is no reason to ever consume the original work, since you have already watched it at full length.
Fair use is a really old and not that great of a law form a country I'm not even from, but I think a good point it has is that "You should not make a product that will be a complete replacement of the original while you are using that original material", A thing that is pointed out all the time on those disputes is that the stuff you add in is as important as the stuff you leave out so that the original work still holds value after.
If you compare that to a review of a video/movie/book/etc, a video essay that uses clips of the original, a remix of a song, a parody you can clearly see that they are not complete substitutes, the first 2 are dependent of you having watched the original work and don't provide the same value or experience, the other 2 bring a new twist to the work while making it fully their own, they have different tones than the original, different messages they try to convey, etc.
If Asmondgold wants to comment of internet videos he has a lot of ways to do so while making money and respecting the spaces of the creators, an example:
While on stream he can link the videos on chat put a timer on screen showing at what point in the video he is one, announce when he wants to pause to chat to discuss a section and when he wants to resume it, the original creator takes the views and chat gets the experience of the "friend I watch videos with simulator" that people that are into react content crave, then for the RUclips upload you pay the editors that he has to cut the sections of commentary of his stream with clips to give it context and cut the fat, when he is trying to find the words, or he is going in circles with his train of thought, etc.
But that will slow down his output of videos, make it so less people will watch it because it take a lot of more active participation from the viewer and make it so he just makes money, not "All of the money possible with the least amount of work" as he is doing now.
If you made it this long into my explanation I hope you at least give it some thought and thanks for reading my really long RUclips comment, have a nice one.

early on it was streamers reacting to other streams, or watching back clips of other streamers mentioning them. it was self-referential, but now its spilled over into very unscrupulous territory. a vast number of streamers have "double-dipped' by reuploading segmented streams, some have actually taken the time to edit down and compile them so the casual viewer doesn't have to slog through 3+ hours of garbage to view the few minutes of quality content. its starting to seem like these creators have burnout and they can't risk taking time away from their streaming platforms for fear of becoming irrelevant and losing subscribers.

  • @TeeJayMate
    @TeeJayMate 2 года назад +19

I mostly just watch reaction content for the opinion of the reactor in question, there's a lot of times where I didn't really like a video on it's own in a vacuum but then a reactor (I mostly watch Asmongold) does it and he generally has a big discussion with his chat and the video expressing his ideas, opinions, and examples
I agree that it kinda sucks that it is someone reacting vacuums up views, but there's a lot of times where I don't really care about the source material beyond the excuse to hear the reactor's opinions on certain topics.
I still think that whenever someone makes a reaction video, there should be an option in the video settings to tag a specific channel (ideally the video's owner) and they get a percentage of ad revenue, and that the views that go on the reaction video should be transferred as a metric to the source video (like show an individual metric of where views and revenue come from, and they still benefit in the system with people getting recommended.
Twitch mentality is mostly people watching the streamer/reactor for the personality behind it, rather than, for example, the game their playing. People like asmongold for asmongold, not for him playing wow, or whatever other games he plays. It's the same with whenever he reacts, people aren't necessarily caring about what he's talking about, moreso what he's making out of that via discussion/examples/etc
At the very least, I don't really see how it's out of reactor channel's power to simply compensate the original video owner with a cut of revenue made from a video after awhile, like a commission.

I enjoy "react" content when it's more of a deep dive by a qualified person. A reaction to a court case by a lawyer, a reaction to an interrogation by a mental health specialist or retired cop, sports plays/MMA fights tore down by ex-players,live performances judged by vocal coaches or drummers or something. Content that actually gets something added to it by the "reaction". Pretty much learning new things and getting other things further explained. Putting on a video to watch while you're eating isnt content. Using someone elses content to "create" entertainment for your audience while you do nothing shouldn't be a thing.

One thing I don't like is the argument of: I'm tired so I must've worked really hard. Literally anyone can sit in front of a screen and for 11 hours and literally everyone will get tired afterwards. The reactors just have the money to support that kind of lifestyle. They got that inital bag by either actually being skilled, funny, or pretty and now just react to get money after the fact.
They should stop pretending like they're making a sacrifice for content. They've got more than enough money to focus on doing what they used to do but they won't, because they KNOW it's harder to create content and they CHOOSE to react because it's easier. As long as it's legal, I can't say that they shouldn't do it at all, only that they're really making it seem like they need to do this when in reality, they choose to.

For those who're still trying to defend most of this let me paint a bigger picture. You're an animator, and you make 2D, 3D, pixel animations whatever. A bigger content creator or Twitch streamer watches your entire video, and they continue to do so every single time you upload. Although you may not upload videos often you spend half of the year making some damn good animations. The person reacting to *your* content isn't crediting *you* the creator. Your video is sitting at like what, 500 something views while the person who keeps reacting to your content gets over 200K and keeps gaining subs while you still don't have a lot yourself. I know of a friend who had that same situation happen and he was able to take this Twitch streamer to court and have them take the videos down, and as soon as that happened my friend started gaining the proper credit he deserved in the first place. Channels like Corridor Crew I'm fine with as they react to blockbuster movies and give actual proper lessons on techniques they've used in animation before. Basically, what I'm saying is if you're the type that just uploads someone's full video without doing transformative work of your own or not giving the proper credit you're not helping, you're hurting someone's chances at making RUclips their actual career and I hope that something bad happens to you for doing so.

Sure some of those 200k would go and watch the original one or even drop a sub, but it's going to be a tiny amount in comparison.

The thing is most twitch streamers who react to someone who clearly put a shitload of work into making good content usually credit the creator in question, streamers like hasanabi or moistcritikal come to mind here, in fact it would be quite difficult to hide the original creator of said content from your audience, since you're literally watching the video with them. And the exposure they gain from it usually outperforms the amount the streamer has gotten on his stream reacting to your content. Although I do agree that uploading full react videos with minimal to no commentary on youtube is a bad thing.

The product isn't the trailer, it's the movie, so the reactors are essentially helping marvel steal impressions from other content creators for free.
If these reactors were reacting to the entire movie though (which is the equivalence of what most youtube reactors actually do), Marvel would instantly copyright strike them. Those videos wouldn't be up for even 30 seconds before RUclips would take them down.

@@Rprot_traveler I can’t watch his streams for that exact reason, but from what I’ve seen, it’s definitely not fair use. The video that comes to mind is his video about Drake and Josh not being friends. It was a 30+ minute video clipped from his stream of him reacting to a 13 minute video. It has long stretches of him just staring at the screen in silence while the video plays

I feel low effort, daily upload, cash grab, clickbait videos are what’s killing RUclips, at least for me.

Then don’t sub to trash creators. My feed is fine 95% of the time.

@@nektarsolne4niy804 fr. this notion that there's nothing good out there is one I see a lot with movies too - just search for stuff, there's good content out there.

A bunch a shit twitch streamers aren’t going to kill RUclips. That’s like crushing an ant and thinking you’ve killed the entire colony.

Except the “reactors” aren’t just crushing one ant. They’re crushing several ants every day and fucking up tunnels in the anthill

what u described is the literal definition of the reaction garbage coming massively from Twitch. Low effort, clickbait, daily upload (actually, its more like 20x daily upload, those videos are THAT easy to do) and cash grab, mainly, the views and revenue from the original creators. Thats the only goal,to quickly syphon and parasite,as much as possible, other people content, without any effort to create ACTUAL content
