READ THIS FOR AN UPDATE! This video gets traction occasionally and people are passionate in their responses - negative and positive. It was my first time buying this many pops and the fact that they were out of box added an extra element of uncertainty. Let me give some context after a year and a half. 1. The video did well so that’s good. 2. A few pieces sold quickly for an ok return. 3. I quickly grew tired of the research involved for each individual piece only to find that many were not worth the time. 4. I have over 90% of these left after a year and a half. 5. I, like the original seller, would not want to again attempt all the work involved to maximize the potential of each individual piece. Also, I would not be excited by a purchase like this and I only like to share the experiences I’m excited about. Cheers!

This reminds me of a yard sale I went to 20 years ago. I collect antique bottles. Buying them one off can be expensive especially if you buy them on E-Bay. At the time I had around 150 of them and had recently started buying small collections of them and would pick out a few for my collection then resell the rest and make a small profit. This is a good way to collect anything if you are on a budget. So I get to this yard sale and they had about thirty on a table priced at $1 each. Three of them I recognized as bottles worth closer to $5-$10 each and already had many that they had but the price was really good. So I asked how much they wanted for the lot. The guy scratched his head and said "Well I got hundreds of them in boxes out back. Think you might be interested in the whole lot?" He too me to the back yard behind his garage and he had more than hundreds. A quick count of just three cardboard boxes showed there was an average of about 80 bottles per box. He had 32 boxes. I asked what he would take for the whole lot and he asked if I would go $50. I pulled out a hundred dollar bill and handed it to him and he said he couldn't make change and I told him if he helped me load them he could keep the change. We got my van all loaded up and I could see his excitement in getting rid of them. I could see his wife was even more excited. She told me my purchase was more than they made selling everything else combined at it was the end of the second day. It was months before I had an exact count. Every one of them had been dug from a 19th century refuse dump in New England. The total topped out at over 2500 bottles. Roughly 1100 were worthless to any collector. Most had some sort of damage or were too plain or common. Many had some sort of decorative value so I advertised that entire lot for sale on Craigslist and waited. Three weeks later I got a call from a prop master who wanted to look at them if I promised not to clean them. He came by that afternoon, took one look and offered me $200. That was the junk. I then went through them for ones to add to my own collection. That came to about 230 bottles which more than doubled the size of my collection. Some were quite rare and a few were valuable but I would not part with any of those and still have them. I then went through the rest and grouped them in 27 lots of 25 bottles, 41 lots of 10 bottles, 9 lots of 5 bottles and 39 single bottles. It took me three years to sell them all and ended up clearing a little over $3900 on eBay. That came to a total of $4100 or almost exactly $4000 profit. I spent roughly 200 hours between the time it took buying them and taking them home and the time I spent sorting and photographing and listing then packaging up and shipping everything. So roughly $20 an hour net. Not bad. At the time I was earning $17 an hour at my job. Plus more fun than operating a machine.
Good deal! At least you saw the potential in them. Most people just chuck out old bottles. (Which confuses the hell out of me, since I go dig them up!)
I like how they just kept trying to get rid of stuff. "here take this movie... here is some small figures... look another movie." *Just puts it in your hands*
Well he did say he was looking for horror stuff 🤷🏼♀️ I would just call that good customer service- esp at a garage sale that they helped him find what he was looking for
My grandparents used to love garage sales. The deals were one thing but every once in a while you’d stumble on an awesome haul like this. I lost both of them during covid without being able to say goodbye. Love you grandpa and grandma. RIP.
As a Funko Collector that was a super deal, even for out of the box. In the box, it would have been crazy! I say usually 40% of in-box value in general from the PPG or Funko App price. These would be fun as a Live Whatnot Auction.
Selling them is a pain. Have A Captain Marvel I'm literally handing away because I just wanted the stack (listed for 3 dollars) have people messaging me demanding more pictures, condition, bla bla then they ghost me...... I also have a lion King one where I'm selling at retail and eating the shipping cost, people still messaging me offering me like 20 bucks.....
Well, would have about 150 bucks for 3 or 4 figures so not really that much effort and then just auction bundle the rest all in one big box with bubble.
Those guys were cool because they were knowledgeable and passionate about the movies and characters. It's fun to talk to people who like what you like.
The kid at the front of the table was awesome. The moment you mentioned horror video games he went to town, and he was super respectful too. Great exchange all around.
Now these are the people I like to see, respectful of the stuff they pick up. I see some people looking for deals and they toss things around and drop them whenever they change their minds about the item.
Dang I always wanna go to yard sales but I get hefty anxiety. This was a GOOD yard sale, the horror funko pops were AMAZING!! I screamed when I saw them lol. You definitely have a gift for finding these sort of sales. & you’re so nice to people too, your channel is genuinely interesting to watch !!
I almost lost my mind with the Funkos, $2 each 😭😭😭 The little GIR on the edge is so cute and so rare!! Invader Zim fans buy any merch they can find because of how rare IZ merch is in general.
I feel sorry for the collector who sold these items... I know he loved them so much. But im happy to see this kind of video. It worth my time to see beautiful toy items collections esp the popular horror characters. 👍💕👍
Life happens. High school kids grow up being more interested in sports, entering the workplace where money becomes more prioritized, or becoming more engaged in their social lives (like going to college, or finding a new hobby which involves more stimulation). Eventually, this just becomes clutter
$2 each / $4 for the bigger ones I was getting worried you wouldnt be able to grab enough of them in time. Thats an amazing deal personally honestly. Would have picked them all up myself too
Awesome pick up. Personally, I stay away from loose Funko pops if I don't intend to keep them. For me they are really hard to move fast loose, but if you are patient they do eventually sell. Great video !!
Don’t know how I got here, not a fan of Funko, not a toy collector, I don’t even go to yard sales... and yet I watched the whole thing and had genuine joy because you’re just such a pleasant guy. Amazing. Thanks! Sending you lots of love.
I feel bad for them honestly, It wont be such a big collection unless someone really like it and spend time to collect it, they probably have to sell it for some reason.
Been a fan for years but lost touch for a while. Rediscovered you and my insane passion for pop-culture collecting ❤ really love your posts. thanks froggy
As a collector myself that was a very fair deal. Sometimes you kina wanna get rid of the whole lot for a good price. Everyone's happy at the end of the day! Buyer, seller and us viewers.
Your knowledge of these things is very impressive, I love watching it. And how you always seem to find so many great things among all the "junk" (in many peoples's eyes)
Thank you for sharing your garage sale adventures. My mom started me on garage sales in the 1960s. We continued until she became bed bound. We would watch your channel until she passed this June. Still watching...

Its so interesting to see all the things people sell. I think we enjoy seeing people make profits from buying to selling like this. Money is good content lol
When you were explaining your search process for them, I was curious if eBay supported search operators to streamline the process a bit, and it does. If you wanted to search for a spock funko and include the 3 terms you mentioned, in a single search, you could use "spock funko (loose, no box, oob)" as a search string.
No trying to rip people off or low ball everyone because he thinks he is smarter. When he wants a better deal he quietly and gentlemanly asks, always showing respect.
I can feel the sadness in the guy with white hoodie! Thats pure pain! 😁 i can still remember when i decided to sell my anine action figures collection, i still regret it up to this day! 😭
Why? Its plastic you look at...these Funko things will be worthless like beanie babies in 10 years...so many people willing to buy plastic junk made in China...then China buys all the land
Wrong and ignorant comment. people said the same thing about Pokémon cards and look how much that hyped up over the last year, some of the rarest funkos can be up to $5000
@@jazzajazza1660 Right, the rare ones will always be valuable like the rare beanie babies still are...same with rare Pokemon cards and Funko's...The collectors market will be similar to Beanie Babies however, and not Pokemon... that's where you are ignorant comparing the two. Pokemon as a brand continues to draw in young fans as well as older fans who grew up playing and collecting... Funko's however will see collectors drop off like they did Beanie Babies....If I had a choice between a 5000$ Funko vs 5000$ Pokemon card, I'd choose the Pokemon card because the Funko faze will die out like BB, but Pokemon will probably still be popular many generations down the line.

@@ToxicAvengerCleanYourMind why people collect those things
I feel so sorry for the owner 😢 he must have been collecting them all for years. I don’t understand why he was able to let it go with such a very low price 🥺
Sometimes you just want to get rid of things. I've spent hundreds of Euros for books just to sell them years later for 2-5€ per book. It's hard but sometimes necessary
@A Ng only you think of it like that. Everyone has that inner child inside them, no matter how old they've become. So what if he collects what you call "toys" at least he is happy with his life. Pretending to be matured while being miserable inside is worse. I pity your partner and male siblings and even father for having someone like you in the family who thinks toys are only for kids
Great video, I don’t know anything about Funkopops, but it always fun to watch someone get a great deal. And I think your approach of thinking of it as a small business stocking their inventory is a good one. I hope they’ve all sold by now and you’ve made a great profit.
@@JasonChowTV I believe they make quality items and a fan is always a fan. That there is already a good thing. Retired items oob is cheaper so many will watch for it. Honestly you can always make money back if you've only bought it for a dollar. Wholesale prices!

“Not an educational channel “ Well it has certainly been for me since I stumbled upon you a few months ago. I love your content and your sweet family. I always look forward to a notification and a new video from you!
This is a great lesson in why you need to bring the initial cost as low as possible, it’s probably going to take hours of research, and time, and shipping costs to sell these things so afterwards the cost per piece will be well above the deal made in the beginning. I feel like a lot of people that are new to reselling don’t understand this concept.
Not sure if you've heard of it but there is an app call 130point you could use to check comps. It will pull up all eBay sales and what bids and offers went for. Just throwing that out there just in case you've never heard of it. I use it for sports cards.
I love your son's reaction to the five nights toy! I remember getting the " ok, I love you" from my littles too. Congrats on a fantastic deal, my dude!
@@trel4504 I'm not a reselling nerd but I overall dont reccomend taking them out just to keep them save, also saves them from dust. if you do take them out then at least save the box lol
i didn't really feel like doing exact math but just guessing around, every funko is $10 retail on average, $30 for the big ones, probably almost 200 of the small ones on that table, and a decent amount of big ones, probably safe to say if these were all in boxes, the table would be worth around $3000 retail, not including the ones that go up in value and you got them for $170, amazing deal! Edit: i commented this before your commentary at the end of the video, and i pretty much repeated what you said lol
My children and I have been collecting Funko Pops for a little over a year now, we currently have over 300, all boxed. I'm so jealous youse live in America and it's a bigger thing over there compared to Australia, the garage sales like this would be amazing. Whilst it's definitely growing in popularity here, it's surely not as prevalent like the US. Good pick up mate! 😍
Man, you luck out on garage sales. Everytime I go, it's all junk lol All those horror funko pops are sick! So jealous of all the scary stuff you found! Also, I was screaming at my screen "you missed Jigsaw right up front!" But then you grabbed him and I was so relieved lol
I like seeing these yard sales and stuff going for such prices, we don't really have that in Europe at all. But I am always wondering about the mentality around the people selling this stuff. Obviously, guys have been collecting these things for a while and I would expect them to know that some individual pieces they have go the price they gave you on like 50 pieces.
Very new to this garage sale stuff being from the UK. Love that this one is more of a long term sale than quick flips! :) I love this channel! Honestly, every video is so fun to watch.
I don’t collect them but my son is obsessed with horror character dolls. Knowing how rare it is I was left spending $50 on just collectible action figures of his favorite killers. This would have been a huge deal for me my kid would have freaked if I got all those killers.
I know the feeling of those sellers, when you started to take more and more funko figures. You started to pack some movies, horror related stuff, therfore sellers were happier and happier about that, and then you sayed you want to take whole collection! :D Those sellers must have been in heaven, even tho it is just few bucks for those figures. I do not know Funko, im from europe, but surely this must be a thing in your place. They look way more expensive than 2$/piece ^^
there is a funko app that does all the work for you on in box pops. as a general rule out of box pops are about 40 percent less than in box. I would use that as a starting point
i used to be a pop collector, some of those pops outside the box are easily worth between 30-50! the whole lot for 170 is a steal considering that they sell for $4-5 average without the box.
Nice score - you been popping up on my feed - I see your getting lots of views - been doing RUclips last 2 1/2 years - nice to learn from others that do reselling and RUclips - thanks.
I love Pops!! I can’t get rid of them though. Lol!! I finally got rid of two this week. I just donated them though. You either love them or hate them. My favorite horror one is Scream. He is just so cute. I put him out every Halloween!!!
So jelly. You've hit a couple home runs lately on stuff I like to sell. I've actually only sold a couple of cheap Funko's before. Definitely a nice pick up that'll keep ya out of trouble :) this Saturday the number of sales is cuckoo.
How do you know which ones are valuable? I ask because here in the UK, I see loads of the same one at carboot sales so I'm sure that means it's common and unwanted?
Always remember, it is up to the seller to know what they are selling and its value. The buyer's task is to buy at a cost which allows a decent return on their investment. If the seller sells it below market price but is okay selling at that price, no harm, no foul. The seller gets instant gratification (cash) now without all the effort required to get it later. Let the seller determine the price. Not only is it buyer beware, but seller prepare.
@@MeisterMiso thats why i used to love watching "American Pickers". People often dont know what they have, Mike and Frank (the hosts) would ask what they want and on almost every episode youd see someone asking like 10 dollars and Mike and Frank would say "no this is worth more how about i give you 50?", it was so wholesome seeing the surprised and happy face of the seller. I remember on one occasion they weren't sure on the price either, ended up being worth thousands and they drove back to the sellers house and handed them a bunch of money so they werent ripping them off. Stand up thing to do.

This was such a fun comment thank you for sharing your story!
Sweet story!
What a cool story

Good deal! At least you saw the potential in them. Most people just chuck out old bottles. (Which confuses the hell out of me, since I go dig them up!)

That is very true. This would be a killer auction. Whatnot is a very cool selling site.
Josh i was going crazy looking at them all!! Wish i could have been there!!
I wish I could find sales like this. The grails in there were killing me.
is in the box exclusively unopened? or can it be returned in box on sale?
I wonder why those guys didn’t sell them themselves online as they seem to be knowledgeable about them
They couldn’t be arsed probably 😂
Selling them is a pain. Have A Captain Marvel I'm literally handing away because I just wanted the stack (listed for 3 dollars) have people messaging me demanding more pictures, condition, bla bla then they ghost me...... I also have a lion King one where I'm selling at retail and eating the shipping cost, people still messaging me offering me like 20 bucks.....
True. Though, it can be a real pain selling all of those online. Sometimes, you just gotta sell it asap in a garage/yard sale.
Well, would have about 150 bucks for 3 or 4 figures so not really that much effort and then just auction bundle the rest all in one big box with bubble.
@@Sydonia108 it's much harder to sell them without the box still.
Those guys were cool because they were knowledgeable and passionate about the movies and characters. It's fun to talk to people who like what you like.
The kid at the front of the table was awesome. The moment you mentioned horror video games he went to town, and he was super respectful too. Great exchange all around.

Such killer prices for all that horror stuff wow. Even those horror mystery minis. Super great score.
When you were explaining your search process for them, I was curious if eBay supported search operators to streamline the process a bit, and it does. If you wanted to search for a spock funko and include the 3 terms you mentioned, in a single search, you could use "spock funko (loose, no box, oob)" as a search string.
I collect pops myself and 170 for that entire table is an absolute steal, even without the boxes.

I use it for sports cards.

i didn't really feel like doing exact math but just guessing around, every funko is $10 retail on average, $30 for the big ones, probably almost 200 of the small ones on that table, and a decent amount of big ones, probably safe to say if these were all in boxes, the table would be worth around $3000 retail, not including the ones that go up in value and you got them for $170, amazing deal! Edit: i commented this before your commentary at the end of the video, and i pretty much repeated what you said lol

My children and I have been collecting Funko Pops for a little over a year now, we currently have over 300, all boxed.
