Loved the distinction between Cleaning, Putting Away, Decluttering, and Organizing... No wonder I've been sort of paralyzed: I need different things in different rooms and areas!!! Thank you both and much love to everyone this December!!!

2021-this past year, I did something brand new and fun to help me declutter and organize. For the first time, I started using 3 shelf rolling carts to do all of these--organizing, cleaning, decluttering, putting away. Using rolling carts, I am now able to see my "work", and roll it from room to room as needed. And I can roll the carts out of sight into a closet or pantry, when company comes over. I use one cart to organize my paperwork/bills, one just for cleaning/organizing supplies, one just for holiday stuff (gift wrap, cards), one just for guest room supplies (guest towels, etc. ). These carts have saved me many hours of extra work and stress, because only one "project" ( such as holiday stuff) is contained on one cart. I am looking forward to doing something new and different for decluttering/organizing in 2022.

I went through decades of old letters and returned them to the writers. They were thrilled!

My kitchen island- always my gauge of how my day will go, and it only takes putting a couple items on it "just for now" that turns into the whole thing being covered with randomness. Working on it now.

Understanding our personal context in our decluttering journey is so important (and realizing that context changes) It informs the questions we need to ask ourselves as we work on making decisions. Sometimes there are specific criteria - ie safety, allergies or other health conditions that shape our goal and should be a part of the decision process.

I love the keep toss idea first to get rid of the excess. Much easier. Thank you

Really enjoyed this one. Not sure what made it special- maybe hearing the even Gayle has issues with organizing/cleaning. Thanks so much. I am a piler of paper- my method to declutter is every day- I have to address 3 of them. 3 feels really insignificant, but after a week it is quite a few pieces that have been addressed.

I definitely agree that organizing is more mental. I think that's why it's so much harder for me. Mostly I'll just stand there and stare at it.... Sometimes I'll do one box at a time... Other times I'm able to plow through. It just depends on how well I am emotionally that day.

I finally decided that if family heirlooms or things I have collected bring me joy to look at them I just take a picture of them and then get rid of the item. It didn't bother me at all to get rid of the stuff because whenever I want to look at it or remember someone for this item then I just pull it up on my pictures on my phone. If you know you are not going to actually use the item get rid of it

This past week I read the book about Swedish Death Cleaning. My goal for 2022 is to work on that, starting with the shelf in the laundry/utility room and working room by room from there.

Yeah that was because of our tech issues - he had two devices in Zoom as a work around.

It'd be awesome if y'all went on the road to speak, and film your decluttering jobs. I'm sure you'd be booked, and do great on HGTV! You'd definitely have a client in Virginia 👀 lol.

Many charities rent mailing lists (of people who are known to donate) so asking them to take you off may be pointless. Worth it for ones you actually support, but sometimes they just don’t do it - I’ve tried in the past.

Sounds like you may benefit from The Clutterbug. She has a lil quiz to help you find out your organizing style. You may be the Butterfly that needs visual organizing that’s quick & super easy. Also, Dana K. White has a very simplified way of remembering where to put items, so we can remember easier. You’re not alone. You’re learning & making progress. You’re doing great! You can do this!

Didn't like the immersion blender .. unless using a dishwasher, it was difficult to clean blades w/out cutting yourself.

How do you manage a small space and not feeling discouraged? I got a hubby, a 4 year old, and a baby on the way. It still feels like we have a lot of stuff. Do you have advice what I can do?

Hi Hannah! If you’re in a small space, it’s easy to feel crowded out. There are lots of innovative ideas about storing in a small space. If you can create some good storage for small spaces it can feel less crowded. Google “organizing small spaces” and you’ll get some great ideas! I watched that video and I just < wonder > why does she need that many mugs? Consider searching for minimalist videos: there are so many channels that walk through the ideas of living -very nicely- with fewer things. And this clutter fairy channel is wonderful: Gayle is so smart and kind.

Agreed about the mugs. That house didn't look small to me but she had some good ideas. I really liked that she pointed out which items are renter friendly. Not everyone can, or wants to, make permanent changes.

@@sw1679 I know my hubby and I got a collector set and I like hot and cold cups. We have a collection of both ,so we have drinks for both hot and cold seasons. Believe it or not, I did downsize that collection.
