And don't forget, Etsy wasn't always that big, you have to start small and then grow. And don't forget now you have to pay a one time $15 fee to open an Etsy shop.
That's crazy. Etsy has lost so many people since they increased the percentage a couple years ago. And it's just getting worse. I think I will seem on go imagine
You also have to take out your state and federal taxes from the final amount paid by buyer including that shipping total.
I became very successful on Etsy with my handmade pouches and had over 500 orders in 4 months. That put me at over $12,000 in 365 days and I was forced to be in their Offsite Ads. Once you hit their mark, you cannot get out of their program. Overall, Etsy was collecting 22% for themselves and then I had 30% of state and fed taxes. After material costs, there was little left for my time. I started my own shopify site and slowly getting business there. It's a drastic change in busyness, yet I'm working more for myself.
i got my approval today, and am super excited
Honestly half the reason to use these platforms is the sales tax getting taken care of. I already donate a small portion to charity with my business model. I like the idea of a nonprofit version of Etsy. Not to mention that Etsy isn't even handmade items exclusively anymore. Cool video. I may go this route, instead of competing for attention within Etsy and getting nearly the same traffic anyway.
Where would you start if you've never had an Etsy or GoImagine?
Profit = $22.33 NOT $23.33
Thank you!
The only thing keeping me from going with Etsy is all the horror stories I hear about them randomly holding payouts, shutting down shops, and overall creating havoc for even their best sellers. It’s no way to run a business. I’d rather have less traffic than the uncertainty of being at the whim of the Etsy bots. Also not wanting to support that garbage energy.
Do you think they’ll ever be able to advertise on TV or streaming before the Holidays like Etsy started doing? Buyers need to know about it enlarge.
Does the 5% of the entire sale include 5% of the taxes they add and then remit? For every 15% total in fees, I must add 25% to my selling price to cover those fees so I can still make a profit and not donate my profits to a venue. i.e. earn enough money to cover my costs, pay my bills, keep my business running, feed my family, put some savings aside for emergencies and growth, plus pay income taxes.
BTW, do they provide a statement of sales taxes paid for the year, and the location they were paid to?
The off-site ads are 12% and 15%, not 10% and 12%.
Thanks. I had a brain fart 🤪
Thanks that makes easy for me to make a decision. The small difference on fees is neglectable but ETSY brings huge traffic and Go Imagine brings almost nil when compared to Etsy.
That is arguable. Etsy seems geared toward the big buck items now.
not to mention go imagine is just about to start a marketing push. I would rather be in early personally. I am keeping etsy, but another platform is great
Thanks for this review LL. Do you have a "First Month Free" goimagine affiliate link?
Doesn’t the customer pay shipping anywhere you sell?
I think now is the time to join GoImagine. That said, don’t put your eggs in just one basket.
Could I get a breakdown on selling a $15 product on goimagine
No traffic.
Why only created in United States?
I got all excited about Go imagine… till I realised you have to reside in the US to sell on the platform! 😢 I’m in Australia. Do you know if they will expand to other countries?
They're working on expanding to Canada is what I heard. I'm assuming they're starting as close as they can and then expand more and more.
is there POD on GoImagine? like you upload your design and they do the rest?
Hahaha nope! Goimagine is for people doing things with their own hands
You missed a fee on Etsy, if you charge shipping instead of adding it to the price, you get another fee of 6.5% I sell on Etsy, but that fee is ridiculous I cannot charge shipping to every one of my items because people bundle, so to be fair I have to charge a separate shipping. On Etsy, you get punished for charging the stand-alone shipping which no other company does. This is pure GREED. I do sell on Etsy and will not stop selling on the platform just beware that Etsy does charge that additional fee.
Yes, and I realized that if you sell to someone overseas, the shipping can be very expensive and so I have to stop selling international because I was losing money if people only bought one of my items, because I sell supplies some of them are only three dollars. And when shipping is over $20 6.5% of that takes way too much fees for something that is only three dollars. I’m not going to lose money to ship something overseas. Wish it wasn’t the case, but it is.😢
Etsy charges 6.5% on the entire order price including shipping. This is because people try to get around the fee and will charge $1 for the product and $30 for shipping or something like that. eBay & goimagine do the same thing.
Do they do digital downloads
You lost me at 23.33
I know what a dumbass 🥴
