  • Today I'm going over a complete cost breakdown and parts list for my 1995 Nissan 300ZX restoration and manual swap project. I made a list of parts and costs for my interior restoration, a list of parts and prices for swapping from automatic to manual transmission, and the cost of a complete engine tune up and repair for my Z32.

echo the other comments about bringing it back with stock and OEM parts. thats my philosophy with my 1990 NA after I ruined a rust free 240Z by "upgrading" the bushings, struts and springs with performance pats, and it absolute ruined the ride quality. People sometimes forget that the 300ZX was groundbreaking for a reason- it was a fantastic car as it came from Nissan. The design and build quality of the car are truly remarkable, and stands up against any current car (IMHO)

Thanks for "spilling your financial guts" to us. I put my mint, unrestored Z up for sale a year ago. Lowest price I had it was over $9k. Everything is original (engine, fenders, bumpers, even the weather proof strips on the hatchback) except for an added Alexi air intake system. My mistake. These never again built cars are worth over $18k. A dream to drive and own.

Just did coolant dump and fill. All weatherstrip is orig. Interior exterior original. Has Apexi dry intake and Borla cat back. Has 60k mile service just done. Will need full 120k service in a few years. Brand new General Tire summer tires put on last year. I put like 20 miles a year on it or less. I am just basically a museum curator at this point. Anyone else doing this with a 300zx should also get the 120,000 mile timing belt service. It's roughly $800 to do yourself and is absolutely necessary.
Ricers (not to be confused with "tuners") in the '90s would leave it, then the belt would snap, and the interference motor would tear itself up.
This is the main reason the Z32 is considered a bad, unreliable car.

The most beautiful Z ever, is also one of the most fragile. The most sexy car Nissan had the nerve to ever make. The new Z does not compare. This one is not about legacy, it is about making a statement with its styling. The twin Turbo V6 was excellent, and a manual is the only option. The 90s were a Schiit show at Nissan. How a company with no money made the best looking Z, and maybe the best Japanese sports car, though the Mazda RX-7 prior to the Ford Mazda RX-8 abortion, the whole deal at Nissan was unsure. From A to Z, this car was it! And Nissan will never do this again. I like the new Z but this one is my favorite Z of all time, except for the original.
