Seriously what are the night orders for these scripts you guys play? Kinda useless to have them linked if we can't try them too.
FYI. The phliosopher-athiest does work. Philosopher Almanac specifically states abilities that work while dead do work if the philosopher dies. so stuff like ravenkeeper, klutz, athiest, etc still work if the Philo is dead. I feel like ben hasn't re-read the new rules and doesn't know 100% how the characters are played now vs the first days of the game.
In a legion game if only legion votes is 0 votes. Why was it not called 0 when only Adam voted? That completely gave the game to evil.
Jon voting for himself in a possible Legion game was absolute proof Jon is the best evil player in all BOTC. Even when good.
I wad tearing my hair put. Ben was trying to help good by warning them not to kill themselves
He also said this is either legion or atheist and then voted lauri even though adam was claiming good team even though there wouldnt be an evil twin in either game
I feel like Jon often makes some very good calls and some very bad calls, and the other good players need to reel him in. Unfortunately for him, in this game there were very few other good players, and most of them are also the "sit back and see how things go" type

Jon is consistently evil's most effective player when he is good & it always cracks me up.
Jon was the mvp for the Legion team! It was astounding even by Jon Gracie standards. He outdid himself here.
I genuinely forgot he was a town folk whe. He was pushing to kill Laurie, saying the savont isn't that strong is ridiculous
Jon's uncanny ability to slam dunk for the evil team and be marinated is both impressive and hilariously sad.
It also happened one time when he was evil

Tilly was fantastic
She got her information, figured out what it could mean, found Dom and trusted him, realized something was fishy with Adam's situation, trusted Laurie even though she usually doesn't - which means she trusted 2 off of the 3 total town characters - AND to top it off, she realized it was probably a legion game and offered herself to try and jump in front of the bullet for laurie
That was the incorrect reaction, but at least she was closer to actually saving this game.
The only thing she could have done was nominate any legion and get the dead goods to use their ghost votes to save Jon.
No one - she included - actually trusted it being a legion game. They kept killing good guys intentionally, even offering themselves up :D I suppose they've not played many legion games. Voting was also not used for deduction.
@@Moleoflands Honestly, considering Laurie was already on the block and was about to die, and without any other nominations, her jumping to take the bullet so Laurie could get more information like he was claiming might have been the best thing she could have done in a bad situation.

Nominating Brooke would have been far better. Brooke was already being sussed as evil by then. Hell, she could even have nominated a dead body to get Laurie off the block. If every legion refuses to vote, meaning you can't tie it, you know pretty much for certain that you can mark them down as legion players and assume it's not an atheist game.

Yeah, Jon is getting a lot of flack but Dom’s absurdly high fear of being Fang gu-jumped was equally responsible in Town’s defeat. And Tilly nominating herself in what she thinks is a Legion game is crazy.
@@arthursimsa9005 I mean Dom's was at least logical, it's day 1, there's no info (bar the chef) on what demon is in play and he's outed. Tilly trying to throw herself on the fire was bad but least it was a spent roll trying to save a info roll. Jon however just let himself get bogged down and ignored his own info (that Adam had lied to him in anything but an atheist game) in favour of acting on someone else's
Two things are almost 100% guaranteed in a No Rolls Barred plays BotCT episode: Laurie is in the losing team and Jon is always wrong in his social reads

I respect how Ken presents all worlds even while being an evil player. It's good sportsmanship for players that don't necessarily know how all the scenarios work, and there's often a tendency for evil players to bury the one sequence of events they don't want others to consider.

Tbf the majority hadn't actually voted yet. The editor showed Sully as having voted but Ben didn't count him (he put his hand up just too late). According to Ben, Jon had the third vote

Despite having the same claim as him, and she didn't even need to have a private chat with him - just one sentence among the ruckus of the courtyard. "I would feel better if you were dead".
I knew from the moment Jon was left alone with 3 evil players that this game would go up in flames; Jon has a bad habit getting wrapped up in the whole conspiracy and this was a prime example. As soon as Laurie kicked the bucket, the only two people they had left were first nighters that would happily let themselves die.
Fun game all around, loved watching the goodies unravel completely.
Tilly being the only sensible one to call out that it’s a Legion game with an Atheist bluff. Is another reason why I love her! She’s the best. More of Tilly please!
Yeah inexperience meant she nominated wrong, but her thinking was accurate. The only thing she could have done was nominate a legion and beg both dead good players to use their ghost votes to tie the vote to stop Jon dying. But that's hard to realise as a player I think

Adam’s vote for Ben being announced as 1 rather than 0 has come up in a number of comments, so posting an explanation for visibility:
A failed Legion vote only gets announced if there were enough votes for an execution.
Longer explanation:
There are two ways to run Legion votes:
1 - Failed votes are announced instantly.
Example: You’re playing a 10 player game. 6 Legion players & no good players vote for Jack. The Storyteller instantly announces that this is not enough votes.
2 - Failed votes apply at the end of the day.
Example: You’re playing a 10 player game. 6 Legion players & no good players vote for Jack. No other players get enough votes for an execution. At the end of the day, you announce that no one is executed.
However, you never announce a failed vote unless there were enough votes for an execution.
Otherwise, every game with Legion on the script could begin with each player nominating and being the only player to vote, with the Storyteller confirming every Legion instantly through their failed vote.
Take my vote. Hoping this is higher to stop the deluge of the 'Ben did it wrong' comments 😂

Though on the second variant you still announce 0 votes after the fact just to be very clear why the vote failed, in case the town thinks you counted the Thief wrongly out loud or had an amnesiac who fucks with vote counts but still correctly did the end result math.
Brooke saying "it was a bit.." to John when he missed her Amnesiac bit was far too sweet. She's adorable.

John and Adam are the absolute worst when they are wrong, because they are so sure of themselves.

There are 2 things you can always count on.
When Jon is good, he makes the worst nominations. So never go with Jon's nominations. He is consitantly evils best player when good and when evil 🤣
When Carly is evil she is always way more actively influencing the conversation. Don't trust Carly is the wiser option at all times but don't trust Carly when she is prominent in the conversations and changing views, should definitely be a no brainer.
yup, Carly is so good at this game that if I was playing my strat would be don't trust her ever haha! she's too good at leading the group!
When she's good, Carley does well at not sticking with 1 theory, she usually puts out all the options. When she's evil, she usually tries to push towards bad theories or away from good theories.
The ending is amazing! I don't know who edited that, but they deserve a pay raise.

It was rough to see the good team get stomped that bad. They believed the evil team so much.

I’m a newcomer to Blood on the Clocktower but these videos are absolutely fantastic and boil down what can be a very chaotic game into an entertaining show!!

The fascinating part is that Jon apparently plays social deduction games for a living. Speaking as someone who loves games, but generally sucks at them, I find this remarkably reassuring.

Social swaying when playing a role deduction game in person can be rough. Laurie and Dom are almost guaranteed not to be trusted for example.
What is worse is that his own info contradicted the evil team entirely, but he refused to actually factor it into word building.

Dom to a lesser degree because you know when he’s doing a bit, but I think Laurie just inherently sounds untrustworthy and that almost hurts him even more when he *is* playing well because when he sits on his hood info to use it at the right time people take him being quiet as guilt when I don’t think Laurie is ever quiet when he is evil

@@101RadioheadCovers It's 6 evil vs 4 good, not 7 vs 3. And games like this might make Legion *seem* incredibly overpowered, but this game is not really representative of all Legion games. Evil were in complete control of the narrative from the very start in this game, but that could have crumbled very easily if any of the evil players ever mis-voted or if the good players ever truly trusted each other. There is another game with Legion on this very channel - and it was also 6 evil vs 4 good - but that game ended in a good victory.
Legion are massively hindered by the fact that they NEED to vote with good. The moment a single member of the Legion votes when they shouldn't, good team have pretty much squared away the victory.
Dom even mentioned doing a test vote prove whether or not it was Legion game, but they never actually followed through with that.

I got excited because I saw Ben at the podium and thought he was playing. I know he did one on Patreon a while ago, but I kinda wish we peasants could get an episode as well.
You can see Ben playing! On the Blood on the Clocktower youtube channel, there is a playlist of games from the player perspective, most of which are from Ben's perspective. Some videos in the storyteller perspective playlist also have ben as a player.

After binge watching all of NRB BOTC I will never understand for the life of me how everyone always lets Carley get away with pushing the narrative… from an outside perspective it’s always so obvious when she is evil but I guess when in the hot seat it’s harder to see! Love these episodes!
I think its partly because shes a bit of a power gamer and one of the more experienced BOTC players so people trust her for her knowledge and experience.
Honestly, these videos are probably in my top 10 or 20 on YT. The quality of the IRL BoTC episodes and the humor and character of everyone is always a blast.
These games are always so good, genuinely one of my favorite things on YT. Thank you guys for making them and thank you to everyone that backed the kickstarter to make this possible
It was really interesting to see a legion game where legion was projecting suspicious town vibes. Alongside legions creating pockets of opposition against specific town players, it definitely played a big role in convincing town to offer themselves up to prove their innocence. You don't see that very often.
Yes!! Legion played a brilliant game. Plus the atheist is a character that throws everyone off.
Hey NRB, just wanted to say thank you for the quality of content you all produce! I love it and it's been keeping me going through some rough times.
Ben even clarified to Jon it's essentially impossible for Adam to have been the philosopher based on his juggle of 0 and Jon still believed Adam. The majority not wanting to kill Ken right away after coming out as athiest should have confirmed legion. Easily the best first kill.
Well, to be fair, if Ken had been a genuine Atheist, the Storytellers could have just lied to Jon about his juggling!

Also it makes the Laurie execution even worse because Laurie had a power that could absolutely help you figure out if it's an atheist game. That was SUCH a bad lynch, and the only reason it went through is because of course evil would be for it, and Jon gave them the one good vote they needed to hop on the bandwagon.

If I remember correctly, the only other time we saw a Legion game, the evil team failed to execute even one good player. This time it’s the opposite. Only ONE Legion was nominated during this entire game(Ken first day)
Now that they’ve mentioned it, I’d love to see a NRB D&D campaign…
They’ve got a Dread campaign going right now, and have other RPG games like CBW to scratch that itch.

I'm also super down for more ttrpgs from them but i think their personalities and humor would shine a lot more with a narrative focused one like the fitd stuff or pbta.
Or any horror stuff with Tom as DM. Call of Cthulhu etc.
Atheist is a very advanced character especially if the story teller is experienced well, and I think this group wasn't ready for it. A good storyteller would never give this many hints (especially a math FIVE, and "Trust Adam") on just the 3rd day if it was an atheist game.
That being said, the person who has played the least games here, Tilly did a great job. Can't wait for an actual atheist game to see more chaos.
I think that's part of becoming a more experienced group, though! The more potential atheist games you play, the better you'll get at recognizing what is and isn't plausible. And a couple of times people did say "it almost seems *too* much like an atheist game!" so it's not like the thought didn't occur to people- they just didn't follow it up. But I bet next time they have an atheist on the script, they'll give it more weight and attention because they'll remember that this time they didn't and they should have.

Wow what a clinic. The Legion proficiency upgrade from the first Legion game to this one is unreal. Legion basically convinced all three good players that they were okay to die, and the goodies were all completely on board. On a script with Legion, the good players WANTED to die. THAT is how you play Legion.
Having Atheist on the script really helped evil because the good team were doubting themselves all the time and not pulling e.g. Carley and Adam up on obvious evil plays.
@@jamescrennie Most win cons such as Twins, Atheist and such can be resolved by or just before final 3. There's honestly no reason to rush them. Town needs the days to figure it out and it's Evil's job to try and force them to rush it.
Great to see the NRB gang once again playing Blood on the Clocktower in person. Always fun to watch Ben as storyteller.

People often refer to games played on the pandemonium institute channel as the premier league of clocktower. This is the national league of clocktower. Not as technically skilled as Man City but so much fun to watch the chaos
I agree John threw major on this one, he wanted things to make sense but then threw all his information out the window on a first night play for the whole game, and no idea why so many good players wanted to die once a Legion game was mentioned

I think the best thing to do in BOTC is always assume the obvious answer isn’t the answer early on, if everything is pointing to it being an atheist game it almost definitely is not an atheist game

SPOILERS
Maybe one of the most dominating evil team performances ever. There was a few errors in judgment on good (Savant isn't that useful Jon WTF?), but between Ken, Adam, and Carley they really layed out the whole game within the first few minutes of Day 1. Entertaining as hell as always.
I'm completely on the opposite end. Good had a rule misunderstanding (Dom's bad call on what "3 pairs" could mean), and happily threw themselves into the woodchipper in a possible Legion game. I can't watch a game that badly misplayed and call it good. I only watch the in person games. So this being the last one for a while is a said end to the series.
@@JCPRuckus agreed, it was painful to see everyone but the newbie (Tilly) realize this was likely a Legion game and execute themselves - if Jon hadn't voted for himself, they would have outed three characters as Legion, CONFIRMING it was a Legion game and giving good a serious chance at winning
Might be the most entertaining of this in-person series so far, can't wait what you guys have got planned for the last game.

A great showing by team evil! I remember a previous game, legion spent more time talking amongst themselves than turning good players against one another. Not here; evil straight out the gate setting up different worlds and looping different good players into their schemes :)
Also a lot of fun to watch a script with an atheist >:D There's a patreon episode with an atheist script (the one where Ben is a player) that had this same sort of chaotic, "is-it-or-isn't-it" energy and it can make a game really fun to watch when the players can't even trust the underlying game mechanics
Adam and Carley being on the same team against Jon and Laurie is a guaranteed win. Carley won't figure the game out for you and Adam won't talk good out of a win. Jon famously trusting evil implicitly, and Laurie being the person who sees the truth and is never believed. If Laurie's predictions counted as wins, he'd be almost unbeatable

Tilly was right to do so though, imo. She recognized Laurie was worth more than her. I guess she probably could have nominated a legion but they would have had a LOT of backing on the stand and she's new.

They had the votes to make ken the first kill or at least put him on the block, but Ben didn’t see that Tilly had her hand up so it was called a tie. Then they killed dom for the bit lol
1:24:00 people not following Laurie when he’s always right has been the theme most of these games, he’s my favourite player as he’s not like the others who has to force his opinions on others.
In my group we call it being Cassandra'd.
His Achilles heel is that he works on the puzzle solving aspects well but needs to be more active socially. E.g. at the end there was no attempt to coordinate the good team or try to set a legion trap.
He can be socially active, but doesn’t help when others don’t listen. Eg. Jon thinks what Laurie saying could be false, how can Laurie make that up? Yet when Carley says she’s the juggler he should know she’s suspicious and should target that.
@@moynulrahman7696 yeah I agree with that. Given how many times both Carley and Adam have bamboozled Jon you'd think he'd be more suspicious or at least think it was worth keeping his hand down on that last vote.
He wasn't right this time, though! He fell into the same trap as all the other good players except Tilly and thought it was an an atheist game!

Just a quick rules clarification that Ben actually got wrong here:
The Philosopher *gains* the ability of whoever they choose, in full. Their new ability isn't continuously granted through the Philosopher ability, it's gained *in addition* to the Philosopher ability.
This essentially means that after they use their ability, they have 2 abilities: the regular Philosopher ability (which they've just spent) and *ALSO* the ability of whatever they chose.
As such, if the Philosopher loses their Philosopher ability, that doesn't necessarily mean they lose their new ability as well.
So in the specific case given in this episode: If Adam really were the Philosopher and he turned into the Atheist, he would lose the Philosopher ability upon death, but keep the Atheist ability because the Atheist continues to function even if the Atheist is dead.
This is a weird edge case in the rules that can be a little difficult to understand, but the Philosopher's Almanac entry in the rulebook goes into more detail about this specific case.
Do you have a source for this from the rulebook or an almanac or something? Because that's not how I've ever run it and if that is, in fact, how it's supposed to be run, that would change everything.
@@bennburns Yes, of course! The entry in the almanac is actually shorter than I remembered it being, but it is still explained there. From the Philosopher Almanac entry:
"If the Philosopher’s ability works while dead, such as the Klutz’s, it works if the Philosopher is dead."

Also his info hard cleared Laurie of being evil in any world except a world where Jon is drunk or poisoned and Ben is a bastard with his info
Yeah, the lack of people pointing out "It could be Legion, so we shouldn't kill good players" was probably the biggest evidence that it was Legion!
